This is by far the best nail salon in LA! I come here all the time, and Andy and the rest of the staff are always so caring, accommodating, warm, approachable, and they do the best job! Nails always turn out so wonderfully, and I even came to them to do my wedding nails! A big bonus of this particular nail salon is that everyone gets to sit on massage chairs, and I always fall asleep during the manicure and pedicure experience of the massage chairs (which are complimentary)! The prices are either on par or even less than that of other places in the area! Greedy, mean, all for a terrible nail result. I came in here for a regular mani and pedi. The manicurist did a horrible job filing my natural nails, and left speckles of previous color under my clear coat I asked for. Her massage was so aggressive my joints were popping, while the pedicurist gave me a 1 minute foot massage then asked for "extra". When leaving the salon, they gave me a random Venmo to tip and while I was working out the door about to tip; they yelled "you haven't tipped!" This place is actually nuts. read more

I've been a loyal customer of A&Q for years--mostly because they used to be the only salon in Brentwood that truly knew nails. But let's be real: it was never about the warm customer service, which has always been appallingly rude. I never complained publicly before. I only decided to look at Yelp out of sheer curiosity, and I was horrified to discover how Andy attacks customers online, exposing their private details (which he seems to have collected from phone calls during appointments) simply for voicing valid complaints. On multiple occasions, I've personally witnessed Andy and his staff gaslighting clients who left negative Yelp reviews, even yelling at them to delete those posts. What kind of owner berates teenage customers? It's unsettling. Until now, I've never said a single bad thing about Andy or his salon, but I can't ignore the string of nasty insults he has hurled at people for daring to share honest feedback. Calling someone a name in a different language so they won't understand is already awful (Andy, most of us have Google Translate), but publicly harassing paying customers, regular people from Brentwood, is not okay. She is nice, patient (except when I can't relax my hand lol, jokingly of course), and doesn't finish until she thinks your nails look perfect. The guy who takes appointments, the owner I believe, is also always very nice. Sure, there is a wait sometimes but, to me, it's worth it knowing that I'm going to love my nails at the end. I am an evacuee from the Palisades fire and needed my hands and feet done desperately. Also needed a little TLC! As I am staying in Brentwood, I thought I would go to my usual go-to from when I lived in the area, but they were closed due to no power and I felt lost! Where can I go? Well, I found another salon here on Yelp but drove by it and it looked so uninviting. Then as I was driving back to my temporary apt., I drove past A & Q. It looked so warm and inviting and just sent out good energy so I parked and went in. They seem to have regulars which was nice to see. The salon is immaculate and really calming. The massage chairs were the best I have been in and the selection of colors was impressive. I opted for the gel mani/pedi with salt scrub on padi. I got a deeeeeep massage and scrub and the best mani pedi! My feet were a wreck, and the next morning they still feel so soft and relaxed! My mani was fantastic. She worked fast and with the precision of a surgeon! The shape is the prettiest I have ever had. For me, I will hopefully not leave the area and never go anywhere else! I am a gen x-er and have been to many many salons, this is top notch! I know the fires and displacement of many residents might have an effect on their business, but I urge you to give them a try! As my pedicures are somewhat complicated so did not have high hopes and was very nervous but thought I would try them. I was so pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be a great pedicure. INFECTION ON MULTIPLE FINGERS FROM THIS PLACE!!! This was the worst pain of my life. When I went to go dispute my manicure they refused to apologize and admit their wrongdoings. I had to go to urgent care twice within a span of two weeks due the infection affecting multiple fingers from dirty nail tools and imprecise, aggressive services. I was a long time loyal customer and I will never be coming back here again. I strongly advise against this place and go to a cleaner salon. RESPONSE: Please don't personally attack me. This has nothing to do with my character or job title. I am most certainly not a terrible person, and in no way need the reimbursement. My aim in writing this review is to encourage you to improve your practices and prevent others from getting infected due to lack of cleanliness. I could only imagine the threat and pressure you are under as I have the power to permanently change your business. However, there is no need to become angry or mislead Yelp readers about how you run your company. The photos are definitely not taken from the internet. The fingers shown are different because two of my fingers, on separate hands, are infected. The images might look reversed because one was taken with a selfie camera and the other with the back camera. In no way am I trying to deceive you or yelp readers. Again my intention is to protect others and make you aware of the danger your hygiene practices have caused. Andy, the pain and hassle this has caused me should not be met with such an attitude. So normally, I would say this spot is great. I want to start off by saying I haven't had issues in the past but I was there on Thursday and felt entirely neglected. I made an appointment a few days prior for a 5pm for both gel manicure and pedicure. When we arrived, they were completely full. We waited 30 minutes and spent an hour and 45 minutes there just to get a gel manicure, they didn't have time for the pedicure that we originally booked. Even so, $76 for 2 gel manicures is on the more expensive side so when I asked if we could have a discount because they ran late, they said no. The whole point of setting an appointment is to get there and be out on time. I unfortunately, won't be coming back and to be honest I feel like the manicure could have been done a lot better. I asked for gel removal from six of 10 nails. They didn't properly soak the gel off; it was primarily painfully filed off even though I asked her to stop. Half of the polish remained still, even after the filing. My nails were scratched, filed unevenly and cuticles trimmed incomplete, crooked and cut me. I ended up sitting in the salon trying to do some damage control (light file and buff) as the lady left for another customer. I'm going to have to complete the job when I get home as well. They charged me $25! When I can get a gel manicure for $35 I don't understand how they could charge me $25 for this. I think the pictures speak for themself. I hate writing bad reviews, especially since I recognize most businesses are struggling these days, but the manicure was below subpar. read more

I went to A&Q Nails & Spa for the first time a few days ago and was denied service because of the color of my skin. It feels very awkward to be writing a review like this in 2021, but it's true. When I walked in the store at around 6:05pm, I was asked what service I needed. I told them I am seeking a pedicure. He told me they were completely booked for the evening and suggested that I could go online and schedule an appointment for another day. However after I left, I called the salon just a few minutes later, they told me they had 2 openings at 6:30 & 6:45. I immediately disclosed to the guy that I was the same black lady they just denied service to, at which point he proceeded to tell me I should come now, but I declined and hung up. I was very angry and couldn't believe what I was experiencing. Right now I am seriously contemplating contacting a civil rights attorney to have them put out of business. If they are discriminating against me, they must be doing it to other women of color because there were only Caucasian women there getting their nails done when I walked into the shop. Also the look of hate the man gave me when he refused my service was the exact opposite to his tone when I called back to schedule the appointment. I'm grateful to my husband for encouraging me to call on the phone to see if my feelings were true because now I know the truth and I'm hoping anyone who reads this will no longer support this racist business. read more

So many things are wrong at this place. For one, if you want to pay by venmo he charges an extra $10!!! Which is ridiculous bc it doesn't cost a business anything extra to have a venmo account. Two, they prefer you to pay in cash so he doesn't have to report his revenue accordingly to the IRS.
