No way you get that in Oakland. Penthouse HNL is on the 3rd floor, smooth check-in, already paid when booked online, super easy. I was a little scared, it was all young "kids" working; I'm not quite looking to be K-pop star. But Jaden had the sensibility to gauge what I was looking for and still bring me up to date a bit. Will look for this spot on the next visit... and much mahalos to Jaden for helping me "keep the old man out"

Dre was so patient, calm, and kind. He checked in frequently and explained every step. My kid felt safe and respected and now, two years later, he looks forward to haircuts and does a great job sitting still and following Dre's directions. I have never been disappointed, and I am so glad I found Matthew and Mojo. Matthew's process is of the highest quality and is very consistent. Each haircut begins with a confirmation of my desired hairstyle. If I have any questions about barber terminology or potential changes, Matthew always explains things clearly and concisely. He is extremely professional while also being super down to earth. His haircuts are incredibly relaxing. So much so that I often find myself falling asleep in his chair. At the end of each haircut, he provides a handheld mirror to review the haircut and also offers product to style in case I am heading out somewhere after. I cannot recommend Matthew enough! There was a bit of a mix up but it worked out in the end. Pulled up to the driveway to the left of the store front. You have to pull up close to bar for them to open up automatically. There were no spaces available but an attendant came out to open up a spot coned off as I informed of an appt at K1. I walked through the lobby and made a right street side. I was the only client in. I was greeted and asked to pick a color up front. A selection of colors from natural tones to catseye and even organic for $5 more. I sat by the window where water, a phone holder, and candy treats were placed on a tray in front of me. Great comfy chair design where the sink pulls out from underneath the chair. Two ladies immediately got to work to remove my existing gel color with their power tool then buffed it out before apply this gel overlay. It was my first time getting this clear base apparently making your nail bed stronger. When I put my hand into the dry to cure it, it was a bit too hot. She adjusted it and asked me to pull my hand out if that happens again vs putting my hand all the way in. She mentioned my nail is too thin. But after my first coat of color, I didn't have any issues. She did a great job shaping my nail to a square rounded edges. There was no hand massage but not sure if it was an add on or not. However, my pedicure did come with it as I do remember selecting it during my Yelp request. She used a cheese grater to exfoliate (I am starting to think this is only available in Hawaii as other nail salons do the same). She did a thorough job with my cuticles, filing, ensuring there were multiple coats with each curing. I enjoyed my leg foot massage especially since I play so much tennis, 3 hrs the previous day, so it was a nice treat. The place was quiet and relaxing, unlike most salons I go to in Cali where it's always packed with chit chatting or nail techs speaking loudly to ea other that I can fully enjoy myself. The only usual experience was the whole time I was there, there another woman standing behind the woman doing my manicure. This woman just stood there the majority of the time just observing and didn't say anything. Not sure if she was supervising or learning. It was just....odd??? Overall, the experience was nice. Check out was easy. CJ was really helpful. Pay by Credit card or cash (no discount). I ended up paying cc and left a tip on there. If memory serves me correctly, a gel mani gel pedi with removal and organic nail polish and tax was around $157 plus a 20% tip ($31ish). Went ziplining today, the day after, and my nails held up well. Not a scratch. Would definitely come back again.

Taking a leisurely stroll around Maunakea Marketplace (because I had free street parking on a Sunday) my friend and I paused in front of Instyle Hair & Nails because the place didn't look busy and I had some time. There were a couple of staff sitting outside, taking a break, so, I approached slowly and said, "Pedicure?" I was cheerfully greeted and shown to a massage chair. The nice gal, Deb, placed a new plastic liner in the basin and started the warm water. She asked if it was too hot and adjusted the temperature. She started to help me (telling me the difference in price between regular polish for $30 and gel polish which lasts longer for $45), but another customer asked for her, so she switched me off to someone else. It's okay because the new gal (didn't get her name) was very careful and thorough. She took her time and did a good job! I sat for a couple of hours because I haven't paid attention to my feet for months. Haha! (I'm kind of a last minute, busy person and will get moving if I can't stand it anymore.) Anyway, here are my observations: Greeting regular customers is a good sign! The four female workers were cheerful and kind to everyone, especially kupuna! The hair stylist asked (in a nice tone of voice) how a certain customer wanted her hair cut and told her that next time - don't cut your hair yourself because you can't see behind your head (she cut her hair to her scalp!). The hairstylist explained politely to the customer about her unique needs and showed her options on how to style her own hair! That's good service! Another example: A little girl came in with her mom. The staff treated them really well. The mom asked for gel polish for the daughter and the staff said they cannot do it because it might burn her daughter's young skin - plus, her fingers and nails are still growing, so, it's not a good idea to put strong chemicals on the area. Wow! That's being responsible and honest! I think I spent over two hours here because the technician paid attention to my dry cuticles, cracked nail, and other issues. She verified the color of gel polish two times before application. Thank you! I was just going to give four stars, but after hours of hard work, the worker still gave me a mini leg/foot massage and brief hot towel to wipe off excess lotion on my legs! She didn't use pumice stone on me (maybe I didn't need it), but she did repeat the acetone/cotton/foil treatment to the stubborn nails several times - instead of using the electric file technique. I appreciate the gentle approach and will most likely return on a future Sunday!

I've been here a few times before but was so glad to come here recently. It has been so hot my daughter and I wanted to chop off some hair. They did a great job on my daughter's hair first, cutting off all her dead ends and "thinning" out her hair since she has so much of it. They then did the same for me, mine was much shorter though. Since we both have very wavy hair, they took the time to straighten our hair to make sure it was even which took a lot of time for them. I only paid $70 for both of us, considering how much attention they paid to us I do think that is a very fair price. Will be back in a year when I get tired of my hair again lol!

I just stumbled upon A's one day and it's full of Tai women who love to joke around while they cut hair. I couldn't believe how good they were and how funny they were. That was six years ago. I haven't been anywhere else since then. They also give a little neck massage for about a minute when they are finished. So cool. It reminded me of the barber shops next to the Army bases I was at back in the 90's. Plus they usually have a TV on, playing a sports game of some type. This is definitely a place for DUDES to get their fros chopped. They are so busy, you should probably make an appointment first. They have doubled the size of their operation in the last six years and if you go in, you'll see why. You can even get a full-on back massage done by hand while sitting in their massage chair. Honolulu's best kept secret! I have been there several times over the past year, and I have never been disappointed. The price is low ($15 flat), and they always offer a rinse at no additional charge. The best part is the shoulder massage at the end. The owner "A" does an excellent job, but I prefer to go with "D" or Vienna so I can admire A's beauty from afar. "A" has a knockout body with all the right curves! "D" is just as gorgeous with long black hair down to her butt! When you walk into the shop, you think you have walked into a Miss Asia beauty contest. A hidden gem located on King Street near Zippys but on the opposite side. Parking can be difficult, but during the morning, street parking can always be found. I am pretty particular, so I have tried many barber shops in town, but no other place is as cheap, friendly, and filled with ladies easy on the eyes, not to mention provides a fantastic cut. They normally take their time with each customer, about 30 minutes each, but if they are rushed, then plan on a 20-minute cut. If you enjoy trips to Thailand, then this is the next best thing. By the way, I hear A is opening a second shop soon, still in town that will have lots of parking. read more

Just went here today with my sons, and I really like it a lot. They are really friendly. Parking are convenient, and they treated us good. According to the post that the guy said they scratch his neck like a cat, I don't think it is useful, and make sense because looks like he got a natural hair line, but why they scratch him over there on the neck ( it's weird to me because they are all experienced barber). And also he looks like white guy, but why his skin in the pic looks like Asian !!?? At first I read his post, it makes me hesitate to go, but once I've tried them, I think I will bring more my family to go. read more

I had a third appointment, and the third cut was even better than my last two cuts at A's. During my first visit I was a walk-in, but since then I make an appointment to ensure I get the day and time of my choosing which meets my schedule. Like my first experience as a walk-in, I do notice walk-ins don't realize customers who arrive after them and are seated first are appointment customers. Therefore, this barbershop takes appointments and walk-ins, and the walk-ins are cut as barbers become free. I did not wait more than 20 minutes when I was a walk-in. read more

Darn cheap-ass people stay in Waikiki but drive to this place to save few bucks and ask for haircut + nose hair trim + shaving + eye brows trim and then (after the owner accommodating to their needs) complained that is not good. Y'all complain about the owner don't speak English. To me, they are able to communicate well with me: select the hair style from a photo book, tell them the length request, and each part of the hair needs what work----done. And my haircut turned out good. What conversation do you need from your haircut guy? Going through your childhood trauma? Advice: if you travel from Midwest or some random countries, please just stay within 2 miles of Waikiki and order burgers and pizzas. You can always travel to Florida for beaches too

Those were the two basic trims you could get. Now days the trimming is a more customized depending on the customer's wants. Paul and his team do a great job cutting your hair. The price is reasonable, the cutting is great, they listen to how you want your cut to go and do their best to meet your expectation. There is no parking, but street parking is usually available. You can't go wrong with a reasonably priced hair cut with a friendly and attentive staff. They do trims for wonen too.
