Yet another delicious meal. Went for dinner this time with my mother and brother. I tried their Pad Pak with chicken. My brother had their sweet and sour chicken and my mother had sesame chicken. We each shared. Since the sesame chicken is breaded with corn starch my brother who has celiac could eat it. It kept its crunch so well. The pad pak was so good and so was the sweet and sour chicken. I eat here almost 3 times a week, Never been this much of a fan of any restaurant. Their food is amazing. I order the Kew wan every time its green curry. This place is closed on Sundays so I have tried a couple other thai food places and this one is by far the best. I wont even go to any other thai restaurant! :) read more

I had high hopes for A Thai Cafe, but did not like the service or the food. It was $40 to get an order of fried rice, crab Rangoon's, a cup of soup, and a spring roll. The carry out orders are up charges fyi. My family got sick from the food. I will not be returning. read more

Did not like this place at all. Not the best service or the best food. Very untraditional even our server of Thai origin mentioned that he does not eat any of the food at home and that it is Americanized. Probably the biggest disappointment. Not much flavor to the food. read more

Worst Thai food ever. Ordered two spring rolls, Pad se-ew with chicken and tofu, and an unsweetened ice-tea. Rolls were soggy and soaked with cooking oil. The dipping sauce was a hardened orange lump in a small plastic container, unable to dip into. The main dish was an inedible mush of ingredients. Took a few bites of each and threw away the rest. $20 wasted. I'm from out of town visiting family and used Yelp to find a good place to eat. I stay with 4 stars or higher as a general rule when picking a place, but this place was 3.5, but figured I'd give them a shot. I should have known something was up when on a Saturday night, there was only 1 table with customers eating. 0 stars for food (stomach still bugging me), and I'll give 1 star for the unsweetened ice tea n a styrofoam cup. Hard to find tasty asian food around this area. So, I enjoy coming here! I love the Tom Kha & Tom Yum soup, the apps, and the curry and noodle dishes! Great for a quick lunch or dinner. Wish I could respond to some of these reviewers...Pho is a style of Vietnamese soup, and Thai is in the name.... The food is DELICIOUS! A bit pricey for dinner meals, which seem the same size as lunch, so for the money the lunch portion is a decent size. We now choose not to go during dinner hours for this reason, however, they recently began closing between 2:30p and 4:30p but they don't specify that on the v-mail. So I drove there to find it was closed and the workers inside just staring blankly at me lol. From our experience, besides that, the service is great, very friendly. We have not eaten in, we usually call ahead of time and it's ready when we get there. Try the herb vegetable rice! Full of fresh veggies and fried egg. I loved the Thai green tea. It's so good. I've been craving it ever since. The masaman curry was the best dish I tried. The pad thai was also very good. I got chicken on the masaman and shrimp on the pad thai and I felt those were good combinations. read more

My absolute favorite place to eat, only ever have done takeout but the ladies there are always so nice when picking up my food. I always get the massaman chicken curry and it's spot on every time! And to make this place even better, their rewards system is awesome, always getting random 20% offs and other coupons from earning points! I am a lover of all foods Asian and my benchmark continues to be the wonderful Indonesian of the streets of Rotterdam. This cafe is a gem. A gem I tell you. I've lived in the area for nearly 4 years and have been so very disappointed so very many times at the choice of restaurants here. Granted, I come from Chicago. I went here for dinner alone since my wife doesn't like thai food. I asked the waiter for a recommendation for dinner. He suggested the peanut curry noodles which were very good, and perfectly spicy. The waiter was very good and helpful. Would definately go back if I am in the area. read more

Had been looking for a good thai restaurant in the portage area and happy to say we finally have one! Great food good service. Only downfall is inconsistency on spice. We have been there twice and one time the medium was mild and the next time it was actually medium. However both times all of the food had great flavor and I will go back! Love it! read more

Chicken Pad Thai. I ordered their standard spice level. Place is quiet and clean. Ordering was easy. Overall I was disapointed. It seemed to be made fine. It tasted ok, not bad. It was a large container of egg nodles, maybe 2 eggs scrambled into pieces, some bean sprouts, and a white onion slices, and chicken. Egg noodles, egg, and onions are three of the cheapest ingredients. For what I got and the expertise in making it seemed like it was stupidly overpriced. The taste was not worth ever getting it again. Also got the Thai Iced Tea. Again overpriced and defintely won't order again, but it was ok. Taste like an iced tea float after the ice cream melted and then it was re-cooled and had some ice. I didn't finish it, but it wasn't bad. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Portage! Delicious dishes, wonderful flavors, and they customize the heat very nicely. The lunch specials are worth the $ and annoyance of sitting in a packed restaurant! We order take out quite a bit and it's delicious and hot every time. read more

Just had the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant, and this used to be my favorite place to eat in Portage! My whole family has religiously eaten at A Thai Cafe for several years, since it opened. I love their curry dishes and used to like their Pad Thai. In the past, sans the past several months, the food was consistent and good. Tonight I visited with my husband and mother. We ordered 3 dishes, and a Rainbow Fried Rice. The 3 dishes were okay, but the Rainbow Fried Rice was extremely salty tasting, so much so it was almost inedible. We have ordered this dish almost every time we have ordered in the past, but we all agreed it was extremely different this time. We notified the waitress when she finally visited our table to ask how the food was. By the time she came by we were half way through our meal. Since we were almost done with our meal (and the one bite of Fried Rice pretty much ruined our taste for the rest of the meal) we asked for the rice to be taken off of our bill (something I have never asked before). The waitress (very nice and understanding), notified the manager who said she would not take it off the bill because we had ate half of it (not true, because we had spooned off about 1/3 of the rice onto our food dishes with the rest of our food, where it was left), but she would have the dish remade to go. So we said if we have to pay for it, we would take another order to go. The waitress returned with the new rice, and said we were welcome to taste it. It was just as salty / bad tasting! We asked to see the manager, just to inform her that she should taste it just to see the quality of the food. Please note, that it was not our intent to be combative or argumentative--we just wanted to be informative. The manager approached in an argumentative manor though, and informed us in the rudest way possible (I have never been spoken to like this!), that there is no salt in it this time, and she tastes all their food, and we ate half of it... I pointed out the left over rice on all our dishes that we did not eat, and she yelled at us saying that that was not the half that was eaten (not true!). She yelled at us to "JUST PICK UP AND LEAVE, DON'T BOTHER PAYING ANYTHING". We left a tip for the waitress, and left in disbelief. I would also like to note that the last 3 times we have ordered take out at A Thai Cafe, we have had bad food--the egg in the Pad Thai was overcooked and sulfuric tasting, the tofu was under cooked the two times before. I kept going back because it was always a favorite. But this is the last straw, we will not be back. read more
