COST: $77 a person (incl tax/tip).
SERVICE: Our server was sweet, but she would ask how things were, & before we even got to answer she would say, "Great! Good to hear!" She was probably exhausted. Otherwise things ran very smoothly.
MUST-HAVES: Braised octopus! Crispy pork belly starter, Sweet Corn side.
STARTERS:
* Burrata - 3.5 stars

(olive oil, sea salt & crostini. $12)
Good but not as much wow factor as before, not quite worth $12. Crostini: overtoasted/too crunchy. Burrata needed more seasoning/kick but had a great soft, stretchy texture. Olive oil added subtle flavoring.
* Crispy pork belly - 4 stars

(pearl barley, spigariello, calabrian chiles, salsa verde. $15)
Fantastic crispy layer over a tender chunk of meat. Barley: great texture but a little dry. Spigariello: amazing light bitter taste & slight char, added a different angle to the overall flavor.
* Braised octopus - 5 stars

(cubanelle peppers, roasted fingerling potatoes, black olives, purslane. $16)
Everyone's fave! I've never had octopus so incredibly tender. None of that chewiness that comes with calamari. Not much else stood out, though the potatoes were well roasted.
~~PIZZA~~
* Funghi - 3.5 stars

(mushrooms, smoked mozzarella, grana padano, dandelion greens, garlic, oregano, olive oil. $19)
Nicely done, but I personally like pizza w/ tomato sauce. This was much heavier on savory/mushroom flavors. I thought the mushrooms were a little chewy; I prefer it to be softer as a topping.
~~PASTA~~
* Maccaronara - 3.5 stars

(ragu napoletana, house-made ricotta salata. $11/$19)
I like the thick noodles, but too al dente for me. I didn't get to eat this right when it came out so maybe it wasn't quite fresh/warm. The sauce seemed light, less flavorful than before. Good but no wow factor.
* Ricotta gnocchi - 3.5 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#m6eSZQehONMOb_CvSksTRQ
(devil's gulch rabbit sugo, cherry tomatoes, fennel, dandelion greens, grana padano. $13/$21)
In general I've realized ricotta gnocchi isn't for me: it's softer & comes apart more easily than regular gnocchi, which is more solid/chewy. That being said, out of the ricotta gnocchis I have had this is the best & comes closest to the texture of regular gnocchi. It still has that airy texture, though. The ragu was good but there was so little of it - just one pile in the corner, & same w/ the greens!
~~ENTREES~~
* Lucky dog ranch sirloin steak - 3.5 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#sjqPPp6qXM8vQIidTGL0Cw
(cipolinis, scarlett turnips, baby carrots. $26)
The meat: very tender, well done. The outside could use a bit of char. Each piece was pretty homogeneous in texture w/ a little pink in the middle. This was like modern & small-portioned American comfort food - no pop in flavor, but good quality & well cooked.
* Berkshire pork chop - 4 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#Ra0ZrvRF3_5dl0a8w0MK5Q
(roasted peach mostarda, toasted hazelnuts, wild arugula. $28)
Tried a bite - really liked it, like the unique peach flavor.
~~SIDES~~
* Sweet corn - 4.5 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#Ia4KQuoZgTDZNxY_c6dweg
(black pepper, olive oil. $7)
Simple yet amazing! Love the char, & it's super sweet & juicy w/ a kick from the pepper.
* Mixed baby lettuces - 3 stars

(radish, lemon vinaigrette. $7)
Nothing special, couldn't even taste the vinaigrette.
~~DESSERT~~
Dessert menu:
* Pistachio panna cotta w/ Dirty Girl strawberries ($9) - 3.5 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#OAxwCtHdTBr1dNFxDx28kQ
I like the slight pistachio flavor. Strawberries: fresh! Texture: a little too gelatin-like & jiggly, definitely could be softer. Crackers were like Pirouettes, added good texture, they snap yet are soft.
* Blueberry bread pudding w/ vanilla gelato & Dry Creek peaches ($9) - 3 stars
pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a-16-san-francisco?select=waK92Cv-AvuV8dfxcfdRCg#pH21fTOpInbkM4HSLqY5iw
Texture: more solid than soft, not my style. Blueberries were sweet - I wish it were more tart to contrast the sweetness of the rest of the dessert. The peaches provide that a little. Ice cream: fantastic! read more
