What a shocker that Abacus is being drug through the mud on here... Dreadfully unorganized and unorthodox crooks. I'm shocked that they provided near 0 value in the initial assessment, only to come back with 4 options (3 cost over 15K and 1 was 6k). Whenever you called their dispatch, they never knew what the latest update was. Their manager refused to come out to complete the least expensive option because he felt the entire unit needed to be replaced. Not the case...thank heavens we called Courtesy Air and received substantially less hassle, better service, and a more professional experience all-around. Brad from Courtesy Air immediately diagnosed the actual issue and resolved it onsite for $400 (FOUR HUNDRED). Abacus, how did you not recognize in your report that the blower in the house was working but the outside unit was not? If you love paying 8x markups with little detail as to why, dealing with unhelpful dispatch, and dragging the process out for a week, please call Abacus. read more

Well a very unhappy customer here. My Father's ac unit went out, sadly he is a handicapped senior armed my mother has late stage ALZ. That being said it got very hot quickly in their apt. I called Abbacus and a gentleman, Alan came out he quoted us $1490.00 to fix the issue(s) or a complete new unit for $8000. So we said we would have to think about it and we called another company who were here in an hour, the problem was a capacitor they replaced it and charged us $129.00 Be aware of this company I am horrified at the attempt to screw over a handicapped senior!!!! read more

Worst company I've ever hired. I got their value plan with all around service and maintenance. Every time they visit, they leave issues behind. They break equipment and tell you that you'll have to pay them for the repair. They over charge. You get very little benefit from their value plan or whatever the official title is. Example 1 - plumbing Saw the problem, said they couldn't fix it, I suggested a solution and suddenly they figured out the solution. I received a heavy charge for them removing a plug from my garbage disposal. Example 2 - water heater I asked them to do annual maintenance. The tech breaks it somehow and tells me that it's broke and the water would no longer heat. I argued with him over the phone and suddenly it started working again. I called another tech to confirm if there was any issue. The tech from another company told me that it wasn't an urgent issue and could wait a long time before being fixed. The alternative company also replaced the system months later for a fraction of the cost. Example 3 - AC System fan was having issues. Abacus told me that with my discount, I would pay 199 for them to diagnose (excluding trip charge). This does not include any repairs. I had an appointment scheduled between 12PM and 4PM on August 12, 2024. I was told the technician would call 45 minutes to 1 hour before arrival. There was no call and no tech showed up. I called their office at (832)-479-0836 and was told that they were sorry and that I could reschedule. After a conversation, I told them no and that I CAN NOT COUNT ON THEM. read more

I called Abacus for help with my whole house generator. The generator wouldn't automatically switch the power from the generator to the house when the power went out. The electrician came out and gave me 3 different quote. The quote to just replace the switching motor in the transfer switch was over $5000. I knew immediately that he was trying to screw us big time. I bought the switching motor for the transfer switch on line for $211.00 and had it replaced by a different electrician for an additional $164.00. This company is involved in unethical business practices and I will never even consider their electrical services ever again. This was simply an attempt by Abacus to rob someone. We have had a contract with Abacus for many years. When I tried to arrange a normal service visit, we were told that our contact expired because of non payment. They stated that they tried our Chase Cedit card tice on Dec. 15, 2023 and payment was denied. They then offered us a contract that was 2-3 time more expensive. We contacted Chase Credit and they assured us that they never denied Abacus payment, nor did they ever receive a request from Abacus on that date. We then called Abacus who refused to apply our original contact , but again offered a contract 2-3 times more. We questioned why they did not contact us when they said they had a problem and we were told that they have too many customer to contact when a payment is denied by a credit card company. We emphasized that this was a credit card, not a debit card or checking account, so it does not make sense. Their customer service supervisor understood my points and took my case to their management who again refused to install our original contract, nor communicate directly with us. We believe that this is a scam and a Bait and Switch tactic. Very poor ethics. read more

The special on drain cleaning is a bait and switch - not a good way to establish a trusting relationship with a customer. Then they try and upsell a membership. I would not agree to a $750 charge to take off the toilet that is draining slowly and sent them on their way $230 later without having solved the problem. I have the same experience calling an Abacus electrician to look at the bad plug inside my house,we went outside to look a the breaker box and he said it has to be replaced ,he quoted me a price of $6500. I told him I need to look into it and paid him $199 for diagnostic fee. Then I called another company,the electrician looked at all my appliances which used the bad plug and noted how much energy is needed to run it,one by one,my toaster oven,my micro wave oven,my water heater,my ice maker ,and told me micro and toaster need a lot of energy, he and I then went outside to look at the fuse box and he said it is not that bad,despite all the lizards dead and alive and feces on the bottom of the box,it could last a few more years,just replaced the bad breaker. But I decide to replace the whole box,he will reuse the 4 good breakers and replace the rest to save me money, It will take him 5 hours to do so,and he will bring me a generator so I will have electricity to run my PC,cost is $1700 for the inside plugs and outdoor fuse box with 4 recycled breakers. There is no diagnostic charge, I will come back and report how it goes. read more

I am only giving a one-star review because I have had a couple of decent experiences in the far past with Abacus. Abacus Plumbing tried to price gouge me out of $380-$700 to repair a small bedroom faucet. They offered me no explanation of the estimate and the plumber, Jeremiah Wagner was exceptionally rude and a nightmare to communicate with, refusing to explain the estimate charges. He even told me why don't I just go to Home Depot and do it myself. In the end I had another plumber tell me that I should have been told that the entire faucet needed to be changed out, not a repair. Abacus tried to get me to fix a faucet that was beyond repair. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE, THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED. read more

Do not trust Abacus at all. I had them come out for a simple AC drain line unclogging and they told me that the current drain line was up to code even though they were the last ones to work on it and install it. They will overcharge, make up extra things to fix like telling you that your electric box is out of code and will catch your house on fire and then they will sign you up for their Abacus VIP without telling you and hound you for a payment method. Avoid them at all costs and check out their ratings on other platforms as well. I saw many of the same stories out there. read more

Had a failure in a Lennox AC evaporator coil still under warranty (W which has been the subject of a settled class action law suit). The system worked fine until this coil failed but apparently Lennox coins of this era always fail. These guys told me I needed an entirely new AC unit and furnace, quoting 7,000 and 9,000 USD depending on which system I got. They never told me about the warranty issue (and keep in mind that this is a Lennox dealer). Second and third opinions from other companies was simply install a warranty replacement coil, total cost for labor under 900 USD. So be very careful dealing with Abacus. They will try to upsell you egregiously. read more

Prior to the maintenance appointment with Abacus, one of their techs had inspected the HVAC system and a plumbing team had been in the attic. None of these folks recommended any insulation to be added in the attic. After a "maintenance" visit from them, their "Best" recommendation was to have all the attic insulation removed and installed for $18k. No visual documentation of any issues. Recommended square footage was inaccurate. Zero detail regarding the type of insulation or method. They have reached out to multiple times via email and phone to schedule the installation. Scammers. They tell you need at least 20 times more things done than are really necessary and they charge for estimates. We had a small leak in a wall and bathtub was on other side. The guy went up in the attic and said we needed all the pipes in the attic replaced as they were leaking too. I have been in the attic many times and inspected all pipes for leaks and other issues -- and everything was fine. I had checked in the attic 1 day before Abacus came out as I was checking everything due to small leak in wall. Abacus' quote was $16,000. I paid them cost of estimate something like $60 and showed the Abacus guy the door. I had the leak fixed for $300 total two days later and no leak and it still wasn't leaking 10 years later when we sold the house. There is second time I called Abacus and it was at work as our refrigerator ice maker quit working. SAME THING AGAIN..... read more

My AC was not blowing cool air and making a horrible noise in the attic. Contacted Abacus and they sent a technician out the very next day. The tech was on time, professional and efficient in the troubleshooting. He had identified the issue to a bad motor, cage and capacitor within the unit. He came back with the itemized list of needed repair parts, and since my unit is over 14 years old, "they are hard to come by" totaling 2k (without labor). My other option was a brand-new system for 6K or 12K. I thanked him and paid the service fee, took his itemized list and searched the internet. I found all the parts including a contactor that was not part of the original quote for less than $400.00 I immediacy called there office and terminated any service agreement with them. read more

Requested service and received a 4 hour window early in the day. Called the company for updated arrival time and confirm appointment several times through out the day. Yet plumber never showed up, and ticket is canceled with no explanation. When we complained that they didn't show up during the window, the plumber called my property manager directly and started yelling at the property manager then abruptly hangs up. Called dispatch back to understand what is going on and the dispatcher just hangs up. Half hour later we get an automated email that they are on the way to the property. Had to call back again and tell them that we don't want to use a company that hangs up on their customers and yells at them. read more

The quote was INSANE! $13,500 to add an additional box on my home (I was out of empty slots), 200ft of copper wire connected to a small box in my shed. First- they came out to inspect everything a few weeks ago and tried to convince me I needed to replace my garbage disposal ( a year old) for $900.... Last week- our AC broke (it was running just not cooling) the man who came out was incredibly rude. Walked outside looked at it and said he Refuses to touch it and offered me a $10k quote to just fix the capictator and coil (our unit is not even a YEAR old) so then continued to tell me that we should replace everything for $20k.... we had another company come out and replaced it for $2k it was ALL UNDER WARRANTY still and they never even attempted to check. They have charged THOUSANDS of dollars for literally things that can be done for $50-$100. It's a total scam and they insult you the entire time they are there. Hell no. I called them out because I had a faulty temperature sensor on my tankless water heater. That's been working fine up until yesterday. Because I heard them advertise on the 740 a.m. radio I thought they must be good. What a joke. So I ask him how much the charge was and he said they charge $500 for diagnostic and then another $500 to fix the issue. I told him just forget it man I can buy a brand new tankless water heater for $1100. He then says wait a minute causes boss and says OK I'll do it for 397. But then the guy comes out and never opens the water heater, but starts checking my entire house for code. He spends more time checking my gas meter and then all my appliances and then says you need a high-pressure meter and a regulator at every gas device in my house at $500 each. So Now we the total is $400 An hour plus $2500 for regulators and we henhasnt even looked at the tankless water heater..!I at this point I asked can you just fix the temperature sensor on the tankless as it's been running fine for Months. So he calls his boss and says no we make repairs because at this point we have to put everything up to code 1st.. I looked up the issue myself and it's a water temperature sensor that I found at a parts house for $12. I mean at this point I could literally take out the tankless and put a regular water heater back in there for 500 bucks. This place is a money scheme, and they are only coming out to figure out how they can rape you and not fix your issues . Horrible experience. What should have been a VERY simple faucet installation after new countertops and cost $400 ended up costing more than $1000 after refusing several services pushed on us and a refusing a "membership" we didn't want and were pressured to sign up for. Additionally, after paying $1000 for approximately 45 minutes worth of work, the plumber neglected to turn the water to the dishwasher back on and caused problems with our dishwasher. Had to call them the next day to come back and fix what they had "installed." Avoid them and use anyone else. read more

I am very disappointed in this business. I had an issue with my A/C unit not pushing out cold air. We had a technician come out and inspect the unit. He informed us the Compressor was bad, and it would be cheaper to get a whole new unit. I asked if it was the capacitor, and he said the capacitor was not the issue. He didn't even check the capacitor. The man then quoted me $9,600 for a new unit but had a 10-year warranty on it. I told him I would have to think about it, in which he said, "I'm not your financial advisor, but you'll need a new unit soon". He then charged me $199 for the diagnostic, even though I told him I was a veteran. I called an army buddy of mine who was HVAC certified as well. He informed me my Compressor was fine, but my capacitor was dead. He then replaced it without issue, and now my family saved over 9000. I am disappointed that this business would take advantage of a veteran and his family, especially in these hard times. I pray that no other family is taken advantage of by this company, who's main focus is to sell A/C Units and not repair them. I even looked up the same unit that was quoted and found it to be around $2300. Unless labor is $7000, this company is taking advantage of people. My only regret is that I cannot give it a zero star. Abacus, shame on you. Shame on you for taking advantage of people in this heat. Shame on you trying to sell me a whole unit when it wasn't needed. Shame on you for charging me $200 for a diagnostic. WOW! Talk about trying to gouge a customer! I called to get a quote on two new AC units in my house. It was for a high efficiency units (top of the line)! I did not know that they were made of gold! The quote for a 3 ton and a 4 ton came in at almost $50k! That is outrageous! I don't care how efficient they are! I went with another company that offered almost the exact units for over $20k less! We called Abacus due to a shower back up. The technician had no idea what was wrong but charged us over $500 to power wash the pipes. We flooded again the next morning because it was a sewer back up. When I called to complain I was told they wouldn't have known that. Who would know what the problem was if not the so called "professionals"? I emailed several times to be told they will be out by end of day; this was after I told them I didn't want this to turn into a Im sorry we can't make it out today situation. my wife called and was told the same thing. They called around 6 and asked what my schedule looks like for tomorrow.., Do not do business with this company they don't give prices over phone and will not give you a firm time window; only to call with we had several emergency throughout the day BS excuse. They knew I only had one day and my situation.... business is so good for them to be able to treat customers like this.... These people came out to help me with an emergency some years ago when my water heater tank ruptured. They told me there was only one option they could offer me - an expensive tankless. I did not want it, but I felt pressured by the emergency situation. I found out some time later that they sold me a commercial grade tankless heater that was well beyond what I needed for a private home. They also came out to give my plumbing an annual inspection, and in the process, one of their technicians broke the hot water valve under one sink. They said nothing about this to me at the time and did not offer to fix it. I since cancelled all business with them, but they continue to send me mail-in advertisements. I have called them several times over the past months asking them to stop sending these, but they will not. This is a company with a very aggressive policy that will take advantage of your situation or lack of knowledge to up-sell you and have tests run that are not needed. Do not use them. read more

Total scam. Came home to a gas leak on a Sunday afternoon. Dispatch says there is no charge for a service call, and I will get an estimate before any work is done. Tech shows up without a gas leak detector and wants to charge $1,300 to look for the leak! They could have told me that over the phone. I would have called someone else. By not telling me, they created a situation where now I have no other option to fix it tonight. I told the tech to leave. We will have a cold night tonight and a cold shower in the morning. But our regular, honest plumber will be here tomorrow to fix the problem. Never use Abacus, even if you are desperate. They will fleece you. read more

I had a major gas leak in my home that was very difficult to find. My technician Jair Morales was amazing and spent all day looking for the leak. Eventually , we had to go into my walls and he was very systematic and tried to cause as minimal damage as possible. He finally found it and repaired it in a timely fashion with a great job. This company is very professional and hard working - most techs would have left after several hours frustrated and gone on with their weekend, but he stayed and worked hard to find my issue and fix it asap. Gas is a scary issue and I'm so impressed with this company and this technician. If I have any issues again, I'll be sure to use them. read more

Called someone else out for a 2nd opinion. The problem was fixed very quickly by the other company. No new unit needed. Am guessing techs get commission on new units sold. We booked a toilet installation for a Friday and were given a window of 9am to 6pm. At 4:30 the Abacus plumber shows up without a toilet. Even the best plumber in the world can't install a toilet without a toilet. We called the main line and was told that we would have the first appointment on Sunday so we wouldn't have to spend all day waiting again. Then on Sunday morning the plumber calls to tell us he can't find the toilet but he might be able to locate it after noon. Unfortunately the case of the missing toilet was never solved so we won't be using Abacus again. read more

I decided to have Abacus over to check and clean my system for their BAM cooling offer. They said my units probably need replacement soon, and offered to replace my two systems for around $24,000! I declined of course, and the ysaid I needed to replace my start and run capacitors for about $1000 dollars! I also declined this offer and changed them myself for about $35 dollars on capacitors from Amazon. I understand they have trained technicians and need to pay them but this is ridiculous. I will never let any Abacus employee step foot in my home again. They insulted me in my own home far beyond forgiveness. read more

These guys are running a shady business, employ unlicensed plumbers and will cause damage to your house. You will regret doing business with them. I did not check yelp reviews before hiring them and it cost me more money and time to fix the issue that I called for. It was a mistake. I called this company to fix a blockage in the bathroom sink p-trap in my rental property. After the p-trap was cleaned and invoiced to me and after I made the payment their technician called and said that there are two leaks, one in the faucet and other in the sink and gave me an estimate of $1400. The cost for p-trap cleaning was $110. Another thing the technician was trying to repeatedly sell their warranty and other services that I did not call for and had not interest in. The technician did not mention anything about the leaks prior to beginning the work and when I inquired over the phone about the leaks present before he started working, he said there were no leaks before. The technician for no reason took out the supply line to the faucet and caused a leak. Later that day, I spoke to the company's Austin area manager who refused to repair the damages done by their unlicensed technician caused. When I mentioned to the manager that the technician was unlicensed, he said that he will send a licensed plumber to take look at the work, but no one ever showed up even after making repeated calls to their operators.
