I'm writing this review after having dinner here twice. It's nice to have a kosher restaurant in this location, I can't really think of any kosher diary restaurants that are this good in midtown, let alone all of Manhattan. Let's start with the food because at the end of the day it's always about the food. The menu has a nice variety of options from appetizers to pizzas, pastas, and fish. I truly love the brick oven pizza it is soooo good! The homemade pastas are also amazing and bursting with flavor. The salmon is cooked perfectly with a nice accompaniment of celery root purée and baby bok choy. I love that the ingredients are fresh and you taste it! In regards to alcohol they only serve wine and I believe beer but I'm not 100% about that. Moving right along... the place is not big, I would suggest to make a reservation. They have a nice bar area that overlooks the open concept kitchen which allows you to see the chef in action. He truly puts a lot of love into the dishes and it shows! Nothing leaves his kitchen unless it is perfect. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because both times I walked in and was told that there are no tables right away. The first time I was seated at the bar which is great with me but I did notice empty tables for a long period of time. The second time I was told that even the bar has to be reserved, however the maitre d was able to squeeze us in but we were on a time limit, being that those seats were "reserved". I understand that people have reservations but I don't find it to be in good manners for a restaurant to turn away customers. I definitely recommend dining at this restaurant. We we're visiting NYC from California to see all the beautiful decorations. Spent a whole day out walking and by the end of the day we're hungry, tired and cold. Found Abaita on the next street from our hotel The Lexington and dropped in. We we're asked if we had reservations and we didn't. But, the hostess that greeted us worked us in as long as we could stick to an hour of dinning. We we're grateful that she seated us and we had a fabulous meal and shared a bottle of wine between the three of us. After having a wonderful dinner (I recommend the grouper) we chose to stay for dessert (all homemade). We we're moved to the bar which afforded us a view of all the preparations going on to finish our dessert. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but excellent quality and very tasty. read more

This is a vegetarian Kosher restaurant. Although I'm not normally a fan of Kosher food, I was satisfied with what I got here. The choices are pretty much pizza or pasta. All the pasta seems to be made fresh - I got the rigatoni which was well prepared - it looked a little on the small side when it first arrived, but was plenty of food. A number of other people in my party opted for the pizza- which was also a good size- but looked to be over-topped (ie, when you go to pick up a slice and there's so much in the middle that the cheese just slides off). Decor is bright and warm, definitely a space that was purpose-built for this restaurant. The staff was very well trained and helpful. During the COVID19 pandemic, "Abaita" has been very safe, while also providing a very comfortable seating arrangement for the customer. I will 100% return to this restaurant again for it has everything that I am looking for when I go out to eat: great quality food with prices to reflect such quality, exceptional customer service, and reasonable space between the tables (our table was outside b/c of COVID19). I have not rated a restaurant using Mark's point-mechanics in quite some time, however, I feel that it will be best if I go that route. When I arrived with Jackson, we were seated immediately by Oscar. Water was brought to the table and we were given our menus -- short but concise. After Oscar's suggestions, Jackson and I decided to go with the Margherita pizza (in honor of the Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy) and the Oven Roasted Lasagna. Both were fantastic! After a short but profound analysis of the pizza crust, Jackson confidently said "this looks like it was baked in a wood oven". And, he was indeed correct. The pizza (Fresh Mozzarella | Tomato Sauce | Basil) was great, though I would have preferred slightly more basil. There was also a "red-pepper-flake type" sauce that came with the pizza too. I now would favor this 'sauce' over the regular red pepper flakes for both a better flavor and viscosity. The pizza crust could very well been one of the best Jackson and I ever had, and the overall pizza was extremely flavorful as well. The Lasagna (part of their pasta selection) was exactly what we were looking for. We learned that ALL pasta dishes were home-made, NOT store bought.), had a fresh taste and ripe consistency, and to quote Burquist "it was bursting with flavor". Most kosher restaurants tend to serve 'out-of-the-box' pasta, so unfortunately, we had to ask, but Oscar was happy to help. The location is very pretty and the people were friendly and professional. It would be a good spot for a business lunch or a date. The crispy salmon at Abaita is the most perfectly cooked piece of fish, with the most delicious textures and flavors. It's the perfect fish filet. It might be my favorite dish anywhere in the city right now. It's that good. My guests loved the margarita and artichoke pizza, the parmigiana rind soup (a traditional Italian favorite - we were so happy to see it on the menu!) and pasta. This is real Italian food and its vegetarian friendly and kosher. You have to try the fried olives too. Ton of flavor in that tiny bite. I loved this place ! Came here with a bunch of friends today for a quick lunch and we were pleasantly surprised ! First, the place is brand new and beautiful... very clean and chic, small but not obnoxious. Generous and Unexpected but so appreciated! Good look for them especially since they're trying to build their rep! We also ordered the braised artichoke which is mostly the cut up heart with parm cheese and crunchy bread bits (served cold), I really enjoyed it, 3 pizzas including: artichoke, margherita, and mushroom! One better than the next but all equally amazing!... one thing I prob wouldn't order again when coming here would be the snapper crudo. I LOVE fish and sushi and have had crudo tons of times, the fish tasted VERY fishy. Yes yes I know it's fish but you knowwwwwww what I am talking about. I did not enjoy it at all and had 3 other peeps from my party try it and the jury is in- it was definitely fishy. Just had one of the best meals I have had in months! The space is modern and elegant, with unique natural wood tables. Started with a peach spritzer(must try). Then the lightly dressed butter lettuce salad and these perfectly crunchy arancini that tasted like home. I chose this restaurant because I observe the Jewish dietary laws of kashrut. Yesterday I ate here with my daughter. We made a reservation for 11:45 AM. The restaurant was empty but quickly filled up within the next 20 minutes. We ordered Spanish saffron arancini and summer lettuce salad for appetizers. The arancini was amazing and I highly recommend it. The so-called "salad," what was that? A big bowl of fancy large lettuce leaves and a few strips of carrot ribbons with a minute amount of tasteless garlic confit aioli dressing at $16. I agree with Itsik A. The lettuce needed to be cut up and the salad was a total 0. We originally ordered 2 pasta dishes but when we saw the size of the arancini and the salad (before we attempted to eat it), we cancel one pasta dish because we thought 2 would be too much. My daughter wanted the fettuccine with parsley, spinach and truffle sauce. 1. The serving portion was pretty small for $28 and not enough for two people to be satisfied. 2. The sauce was nondescript and there was no truffle flavor. Since we didn't eat much of the salad, (I didn't complain about it right away so couldn't get a substitution), we didn't feel full as a result. When the restaurant filled up it was so noisy, I couldn't hear what my daughter was saying. The service wasn't good either. The waitress never came back to check on us (usually the server comes back and asks you how you like the food) and to see if we needed anything. Several times we had to flag her down to get extra cheese (in an Italian restaurant the waitress/er usually comes by immediately after a pasta dish is served with a cheese grater or dish of additional cheese to offer additional cheese to the customer.) When the pasta was served, additional plates and utensils weren't brought immediately. In an Italian restaurant (and for that matter most restaurants,) bread is brought to the table with olive oil. This restaurant doesn't do this. At the table next to us a customer was holding a glass and it broke in his hand, covering most of the table with glass. No one came immediately to clean it up so the customer covered up the broken glass with a napkin. I watched as the people at the table sat there for more than 5 minutes before someone came and removed it. I was really looking forward to eating here, especially because I observe Kashruth and am a pescatarian. I don't know how there are so many positive reviews. I was extremely disappointed. read more

Seriously, you can't get better than this. I have been to Abaita four times now, and it is always a treat to go back. I keep returning expecting to find some fault, but each and every time I've returned everything has been perfect. The pizza is the real star here. It is Neapolitan style, thick and airy crust, fresh mozzarella, I believe San Marzano tomatoes and basil. Every ingredient on the pizza stands out. The sauce is tangy, but a little sweet. The cheese is flavourful, and the basil tastes like it was just picked. And the crut is phenomenal, crunchy and airy with an amazing char. The epicentre of the restaurant is the wood-burning brick oven. This beauty of an oven cranks out the best kosher pizza, and as I've been told, the best fish as well. The pasta is also incredible; it's always fresh and tasty. The ice cream dessert is also quite good. On account of its quality, Abaita is usually packed. I recommend making a reservation a week and a half before you wish to dine, as preferable times tend to fill up. I cannot recommend Abaita enough. read more
