You've gotta walk through the lobby of a Marriott hotel to find the golden door that leads to this Westchester institution that serves the best dumplings and Chinese dishes, better than Chinatown. Been coming here for years and now that they don't serve dim sum in the carts and you can get all the same dishes for dinner, it's actually worth skipping the long morning dim sum lines and coming for dinner! We got in immediately and got their incredible steamed and baked pork buns (the baked are heavenly), the steamed custard buns, the chive dumplings and more. 5 stars!!!! read more

Best Chinese food I've ever had! Got stuck here overnight after missing a flight and never expected this!

We were visiting from California and wanted to bring our aunt to a Cantonese restaurant. We found this place on Yelp and called ahead to confirm they were open through lunch. The woman who answered told us they were open, so we drove over. When we arrived, we couldn't find the restaurant and called again for directions. The same female server answered and suddenly informed us that they would be closing at 3 PM and were no longer accepting walk-ins. I asked why she didn't mention that the first time I called, we had no choice but to leave without eating. Despite the first unpleasant experience, we decided to give the restaurant another try the next day evening. Before driving all the way from Mount Kisco, I called again to ask if we could make a reservation. The same server answered and told me, in a very dismissive tone, that they do not take same-day reservations. She then added that the wait time at that moment was one hour. Since the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM, we figured that if we arrived by around 8:00 PM, the wait would likely be shorter and we would still have enough time to dine. We arrived at 7:54 p.m., and the same server, with a rude and arrogant attitude, came to the entrance. When I said "table for three," she immediately told me the wait would be one and a half hours. I noticed several empty tables inside. I asked how that made sense if the restaurant closes at 9:30 p.m. She simply said yes, and then followed with, "We cannot take another table." Her attitude was consistently unfriendly, dismissive, and unprofessional. As a business owner myself, I would never hire someone who deliberately drives customers away, especially in the hospitality industry. It is extremely disappointing that a restaurant would allow a staff member to treat potential customers with such rudeness. If this is how they handle walk-ins and phone inquiries, it will absolutely affect their reputation in the long run. What shocked me most was this: most customers inside were American, yet we, Chinese ourselves, were turned away twice by a Chinese server. It felt like discrimination from our own people, which made the experience even more disappointing and confusing. This restaurant's rating is only 3.7, and the only reason we attempted to visit twice was because we were looking specifically for Cantonese food. After being treated with rudeness and arrogance again, we decided we will never return. If management continues to let this particular employee answer the phone and handle the front, I sincerely believe they will see the consequences reflected in future reviews and customer turnout. read more

The Aberdeen restaurant is located in the lobby of the Residence Inn in White Plains, NY. I entered the restaurant just as the dim sum ceased being available (7:30), so pulled up the menu by scanning the QR code on the table. That is the QR code for dining in. There is another QR. ode for pick up. I ordered the hot and sour soup (a good indicator of the overall quality of a restaurant such as this). I also ordered "Buddhist Delight", a vegetarian dish consisting of black tree ear mushrooms, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. The hot and sour soup was excellent. It is a test of a really good restaurant because it has to be done right to balance the flavor. And it was, it was excellent. The "Buddhist Delight" was excellent, also. Particularly the black tree ear mushrooms which were plentiful. It was served in a dish that seemed to keep the temperature of the food perfect. The service was excellent without being intrusive. The only way i can think to improve this restaurant's ambience which is good with white table cloths and a generally white color scheme would be to replace the white paper napkins with white cloth napkins. It's a chinese restaurant inside a Marriot...in Westchester so I knew to lower my standards going in. One thing that stood out to me was the fact you scan a QR code to order dimsum. Part of me wants to believe that means the dish is made to ordered but sadly after eating the dimsum, I don't think that's the case. My family and I ordered a bunch of dishes (mostly the dimsum) because that's what my sister-in-law wanted for her bday meal. Traditionally for dimsum, you get your food off the cart so I didn't realize they were secretly separating our dishes depending on what category they fell into. For example, some dishes came out super fast. And then some just didn't come out until the end. When I asked the waiter, he said it's because the dimsum is served first and the noodles (considered an entree) comes out after you are done eating ALL the dimsum on the table. Then there's the sesame balls my daughter and husband ordered because they wanted it. I'm sure you can guess, that's considered a dessert so it came out when the noodle dish was empty. Sheesh,... talk about pressure to clean your plate before you get something else! Quality wise, it's sub-par at best. Yes, that's even after I lowered my standards! Sorry, but the rice crepe noodles was thick and the har gar skin (shrimp dumpling) was falling apart. Not to mentioned the shrimp had a fishy taste to it. The fried dough with minced pork was literally just stuffed with lumps of pork. The only thing that was good was the pan fried beef noodles. Pretty sure because that is made to ordered. Heard there was dim sum in White Plains and came to try it. This restaurant is located inside a hotel and parking outside on the street is fairly easy with the parking app. The restaurant itself has your typical Cantonese decors and vibe, which we liked knowing that we walked into something authentic. What kind of surprised me was that there were no dim sum carts rolling around. The restaurant is actually more than just dim sum, so their menu contains main dishes as well and dim sum is only a section of the menu. We ordered mainly from the dim sum section, which I guess in the end saved us a lot more time than picking stuff off the carts. It just took away from the experience I guess. Service was prompt, and waiters were nice. Overall, the food was pretty good. We also ordered a salty pork from the main dishes and it was exactly what we expected. If this is the best that Westchester can do, please do yourself a favor and just drive to Flushing. This place was atrocious. Most of the food was barely edible, the beef short ribs were entirely inedible as they had so much gristle there was absolutely no way to actually chew through it. Same with some of the vegetables, completely inedible. The standard dimsum fare was just mediocre at best. Everything tasted like generic American Chinese restaurant nonsense except the General Tsao's chicken which tasted neither Chinese nor General Tsao... it was just some weird vaguely Chinese esque General Tsao. And I haven't even gotten to the price. Everything was way way overpriced. It felt like going to PF Chang's. Horrible food, grubby ambiance, overpriced menu. Just plain avoid avoid avoid. They have indoor dining again. The tables have partitions between them. Make a reservation at least 24 hrs ahead or be prepared to wait an hour. We didn't want to wait when I called for a rez, so we did take out. The restaurant was packed and people waiting on the line left when they heard there was over an hour wait. Don't expect the large Dim Sum food halls in Sunset Park, Flushjng or Manhattan Chinatown, there are no carts and everything is ordered via a QR code. While the food tasted fresh, the Har Gow and Siu Mai had very large and tasty pieces of shrimp, the prices are elevated, 6 spare ribs are $21. We also ordered the double sautéed pork which savory with a hint of spice. Thempork was tender and tasty. In order to avoid a trip to the city I will return to Aberdeen. We were on our way to Bear Mountain and planned to meet our friends here for lunch. We (2adults 1kid) got there at around 11:40 and tried to get a table for 6 (4 adults and 2 kids) to start eating first. The restaurant's policy is to only seat full parties so we waited. As we were waiting, many more parties came in and it became very stressful when the host told us that our table, which was held for us, may be given away if they don't get here in 5min at 12:10. This is totally understandable as they were turning customers away bc of us but just caused a lot of anxiety so I will only go back if we were dining by ourselves and in the area. The food was pretty good but the prices are much higher than what we are used to in queens ($6-8 for each item). The ordering system is through a QR code you scan at your table and you use your phone to place the orders. Everything came pretty quickly and without issues. The restaurant was also super busy at this time so we ended up having to get our own high chair for the kids. No refills of waters. As some people have noted, this place is definitely a bit tired looking. It has a very 80s office feel to it. However, looks can be deceiving because the food here is amazing. Another Yelper called this a dim-sum speakeasy and I think that's quite a fitting name. To enter the restaurant you walk into the Marriott hotel lobby, and off to your left there's a giant golden door - you enter here for delicious food. There's no ordering with the waitstaff here. They don't have any physical menus, which imo is a bit of an issue because what if someone doesn't have a mobile device or needs a physical menu for some other reason? To order, you can a QR code that is table specific. Everyone at your table can scan the code, add items to the 'bag' and place orders as they go. And you can see what everyone has put in the bag or what orders they've already placed. It took a couple minutes to get used to it, but nbd. My biggest issue with this is that the menu is pretty long, and you just have to scroll and scroll and scroll. We got here shortly after 5 (they reopen for dinner at 5) on a Friday, and we were only the second table at that time. Our appetizers came out just a few minutes after we ordered them. When we ordered entrees, they didn't take long either even as the place started to fill up. We ordered scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, fried pork dumplings, sticky rice, sesame beef, beef lo mein, garlic snow pea leaf, chicken with eggplant, and jumbo shrimp with garlic. My family was in total agreement over every dish save for the shrimp, they were all fantastic. The scallion pancakes were pan fried, not deep fried, so they were nice and crunchy without being too greasy. The soup dumplings came out nice and hot, with a lot of juice inside. The fried pork dumplings were a nice golden brown on the bottom, giving just the right amount of crunch. The sticky rice was maybe a tad bit too sticky, but full of flavor nonetheless. The eggplant was a little bit too soft for my preference (I like them when they're a little hard), but again, still really tasty. My favorite dish was by far the sesame beef. Some places make it too sweet, but here it was just a little bit sweet, and that didn't overpower the flavor of the meat itself. The skin was perfectly crunchy too. And thinking about it now, I didn't get any of those fatty pieces that I was unable eat. This was definitely one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in a while. We were out celebrating my mother's birthday with my grandfather, and seeing my mom throughly enjoy her food and her experience here made it all the better. I'd definitely come back. read more

I worked near Chinatown in NYC for over forty years, my supervisor was Chinese and we went to some really amazing restaurants there. Aberdeen brings me right back to some if the best restaurants in NYC. The restaurant is in the lobby of a Marriott hotel so parking is never an issue. There is a nice ambiance to this place, it's always nice, quiet and clean. I love ordering the service, you order on your phone, and minutes later some if the best food in the area. I would recommend this place to anyone that likes good Chinese food and Dim Sum to die for. read more

As a long time customer (over 20 years) I wanted to share my review in hopes that Aberdeen can return to its high standards. My family and friends celebrated the Lunar New Year for lunch on Saturday and we ordered soup, appetizers and 7 different entrees to share among 8 people. Unfortunately the apps and soup weren't served until after the entrees started to arrive and only sporadically. The potstickers were pretty tasteless as was the egg drop soup. The cashew chicken actually had celery and carrots and was pretty tasteless, the Hong Style beef and the pork chops were actually sweet. The only stars were the jumbo shrimp and the snow pea leaves which were excellent. They actually charged us for tea, there were no after dinner slices of orange, mints or fortune cookies. And worst of all we all had bathroom issues the following day including my 90 year old in-laws. This is not the first time recently that we've had issues with the service and quality of the food. But I would expect the restaurant would put forth a greater effort for celebrations this time of year. I will hold out hope for their Dim Sum menu but we will no longer come to the restaurant for celebrations or regular meals. I guess we will go back to Fantasy Cuisine in Hartsdale! read more

The food could be the best in the world but when the service is basically you have to eat the food and like what we provide you its a hard no. The pork bun was a disaster and stuck fully to the paper and now longer a bun which is no big deal if when you describe to the server they understand hospitality. Instead the response was one of rudeness and whatever. I've worked in hospitality long enough to know you at minimum hear the customer's complaint without providing an attitude and making them feel unheard. Aberdeen used to be much more than a restaurant. With its rolling Dim Sum carts it was an experience. The cart would come, diners would see the food, it was ordered, taken off the cart and placed on the table. Steaming hot. It got eaten wile it was at it's best. Since Covid it's no longer an experience. It's good Chinese Food. That's it. Bring your iPhone. You'll need it to order anything, Dim Sum or regular larger dishes. You scan a CR code on a sign on your table and that brings up a MENU on your phone. That's the ONLY menu there is. Ordering is electronic. No involvement with a server. Eventually the food arrives. Or at least most of it does. Twice we ordered a number of items and one of them wasn't delivered. After an interminable wait I located a server and told him what we were still waiting for. A trip into the kitchen eventually resolved the whereabouts of the missing item. Food was good. My Hot and Sour soup was a major winner. Hot. Sour. Chock full of whaterer it is that goes into it. Lovely. We (a table of 6) ordered almost everything from the Dim Sum menu. But by the time a whole bunches of dishes were served, before they were eaten thsy weren't hot any more. Sad. Had lunch with a friend and wow this place is different. It is small and dingy, with hardly any light. I seem to remember a much larger restaurant back in the day... I haven't been there in ages. Understood that the pandemic has affected many restaurants but the food was taste-free and service (if one can call it that) was non-existent...literally. Upon arrival, the place was pretty empty and we were able to sit down immediately. There were dirty fish tanks in the dining room. 3 of them were empty, one had one motionless lobster in it, and one had goldfish in it... or some kind of decorative fish. The dead-looking lobster should have been a red flag, but I decided to let it go. Upon being seated, we received a table stand with a card that had a QR code on it. I understand that was the protocol during the pandemic, but why is it still being used now? We scanned the code, and not only was it the menu, but we had to order on our phones... no waiter, nothing. We ordered several different items and only one had any taste (the fried tofu cubes). The rest of the food was left barely tasted, mostly uneaten. The cold sesame noodles were awful... tasted VERY old, and were refrigerator-cold. Sauce was the consistency of wallpaper paste and there was no flavor. We each had a bite and left the rest. Beef rice rolls also were gluey, and tasted like chewy air. Most of these were left on the plate as well. We had to get soy sauce and hot pepper oil (which was not hot at all). Leek dumplings tasted microwaved. Again, one eaten out of three. We ordered some other dim sum items and some steamed broccoli. The dim sum was definitely not fresh. The broccoli was ok, but not really seasoned. So, no wait service, dishes dropped on the table, while dirty dishes were not cleared (not sure if I can fault them for that as the food was left on the plates), so I had to ask the elusive waiter to clear things. We asked for the check, and he asked us if we wanted boxes for the mountain of food we left on the table. We said no (you would think they would have asked if everything was OK, but no). The check came and it was very high for what we had, but what was hysterical is that they had the suggested tip amounts and they STARTED at 20%. So... terrible food, hardly any service, and expensive... will not be returning. One positive... the bathrooms were very clean. read more

This is the best Dim Sum we've had in years, hands down . The service was great, the food was amazing and reasonably priced. Aberdeen also has a large menu in addition to their delicious dim sum . Don't let the setting fool you! A pleasant surprise all around. Chive and Shrimp Dumplings were crispy, fresh, bursting with filling. Spare ribs were meaty, sauced perfectly and came right off the bone. Tried the turnip cakes too and those were such a indulgent savory side. The menu is expansive with plenty of options even for people with restrictions. I just wish we had more people at our table so we could've tried more of their dim sum options. Ordering is on your phone which eliminates a service element that I think would add to the experience. Despite that missing, there were plenty of servers to fill waters, bring utensils, sauces, etc. The setting isn't much in a hotel but it's clean, the staff inviting and the food is delicious. Probably the only dim sum place in Westchester, it is solidly enjoyable but nothing outstanding. Best part about the restaurant is free and relatively easy parking - 3 hours at the Marriott hotel lot. The restaurant is on the ground floor opposite the reception. Arrived around opening time on a weekday without a reservation and was promptly seated. Staff is pleasant, all English-speaking, and menu explains exactly what each dish is. The dim sum menu is limited but has all the main highlights of traditional offerings. Fried turnip cake and pork & shrimp siu mai are both delicious. Unfortunately the har gau (shrimp dumpling) and cheong fun (steamed rice crepes) are underwhelming - in both cases the rice dough is too thick and lacks finesse. Only 1 dessert option when we visited (black sesame balls). If you're trying dim sum for the first time I think this could be a nice friendly introduction. But serious dim sum lovers might find it worthwhile to drive down to NYC for the real deal. For our first time having dim sum in almost 2 years I didn't mind coughing up the ~$25 per head tab and had a rather enjoyable afternoon. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant, and the only reason I am giving it two stars is because I want to be nice. First off there is really no customer service, the welcome we received was a look and a why are you here kind of thing. The decor was pleasant but seemed to crowded, the scan menu was not explained very well and when we were able to look at the menu on our phone it was extremely long and to put it into a cart like you were shopping is very off putting. We were charge for white rice, which I can understand if you were ordering it as a side dish, I can see maybe charging for it but not as a side to an already ordered dish. Our food was very bland to say the least edible but not the kind of Yes I have to eat here again kind of thing. They only filled our water glasses and their was not very customer friendly or very interactive with the customers. If this is the way restaurants run in the future, and if I wanted to go back to High School and eat cafeteria style, I will go back to my High School.
