Yum! Did I say yum? Decided to give it a try for lunch today and we were beyond delighted and more than stuffed when we left. Started with hummus and pita. Pita - perfect, little chewy, not dry and crunchy. Hummus - yum. Just right, not so creamy it's like paste but not chunky. Reminiscent of the texture of the hummus from Mellow Mushroom, but with much better pita. Wife got the spanakopita and I'm not going to say I regret not ordering it myself, but I'll definitely order it on a return visit. The phyllo was perfectly crisp and the stuffing inside was creamy and delightful. It came with a Greek salad that utilizes their house dressing that is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. It lightened the salad perfectly and I'll bring it up again. My son and I ordered gyros with "Greek Fries". Do yourself a favor and order these fries. Crispy fries - like Indy's/Checkers with a sprinkling of fresh Feta crumbles, oregano, and drizzled with that Greek dressing. I can't say enough about the dressing. It's just not what I expected- I guess I'm used to the bottled Greek dressing that doesn't even come close to this stuff. It's a perfect balance of flavor, acidity, and surprisingly a little sweet. The Gyros: Chicago add Feta - there must have been a pound of perfectly crispy on the edges juicing the middle sliced beef/lamb along with all the toppings. The Biloxi- that pound of beef/lamb with a half pound of perfectly cooked shrimp thrown in. Nearly two hours later we were still comfortably full. Service was exceptional. In addition to our attentive and informative server everyone who passed by checked on us with a quick comment or gesture, but not so much as to be overwhelming or annoying. In other words, service was just right. I'd love to say we had dessert, but I'll have to save my review of the baklava for another post - maybe later tonight - they don't close til 8:00! read more

A Local Treasure RUINED. If you used to cherish Mr. George's cooking, stay away. This is no longer the restaurant you loved; it is a mockery run by people who clearly do not understand seasoning, Southern standards, or basic honesty. The worst part was probably being lied to. I ordered the Red Snapper. They brought out a piece of white fish and called it Flounder. When I politely pointed out the mistake the staff took it to the back, walked it right back out, and looked me in the eye to tell me it was "actually" the Red Snapper. It wasn't. That's not what red snapper looks like. That was a level of disrespect I find shocking. But I decided to try it anyway because I was hungry and that's when things got worse... The Food was Inedible - this kitchen is a disaster. The Fish: Aside from the identity crisis it was also rubbery, improperly cooked, and over salted. The Potatoes: These used to be simple and perfect. Now? Hard as rocks, undercooked and underseasoned. The Moussaka: It arrived cold in the middle and noticeably not as good as it used to be. Neither the flavor nor the texture were right even if it had actually been heated through. The Hummus & Dressing: The once-creamy hummus is now gritty. The simple, perfect salad dressing has been replaced by an overly sweet commercial bottle of something cheap. The Pita: The only thing edible was the pita. I've always loved their pita - so now I'm guessing they've always bought it premade because this kitchen cannot make good food. The Greenbeans: These also used to be simple and perfect and are now mushy and improperly seasoned. When we told the waitress--honestly and without hostility--that the food was cold, not good, and that we wouldn't be eating it, there was zero effort to make it right. We were handed a full check for a meal we didn't eat at all, paid it, tipped the waitress, and left hungry. Mr. George's wife may still be there, but his recipes, skill, and his heart clearly are not. The new out-of-town owners have stripped everything worthwhile out of this establishment. Lived in Chicago my entire life. Then moved to the Mississippi Gulf coast and finally to the Alabama gulf coast to be closer to grands. As I sidebar I lived in Greece for 4 months. Had the occasion to come back to Biloxi for a staycation. Went to Acropolis for lunch. Oh my goodness, this place does not disappoint. The decor is quite charming and reminiscent of a Greek taverna. But the food? It was really good. Haven't had such good calamari since I was at the Plaka in the 80's. The Chicago gyros was, yes, Chicago. Ample portion of meat, onions, tomatoes and tzatziki on a perfectly grilled pita. Don't get me started in the very delicious spanakopita!!!! Finding ethnic food on the coast is difficult because it's hard to source ingredients. Acropolis nails it. Oh, the Greek salad was delicious. Being a former chef and caterer myself, I wanted to ask the chef if the dressing was made with white balsamic vinegar because it was delicious. We will be back anytime we are in Biloxi. read more

Now this is what real Greek food tastes like! My husband and I stopped in for lunch and it was a fantastic experience. We were warmly greeted and our server came to our table quickly to take our order. My husband and I ordered keftedes- the meatballs, a Greek salad, potatoes, and the tour of Greece. Everything was phenomenal! We loved it all and the tour of Greece platter was the perfect way to go. So Michele and I ate at our favorite Greek Restaurant again tonight. The Acropolis in Biloxi. Across from the Nativity Cathedral I. Howard Ave. We have eaten here about four times and the food is amazing. The owners John & Debbie are friendly and treat you like family. The waitresses Christine and Victoria are great. Extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Tonight I had the Biloxi Gyro, beef and lamb meat, shrimp, lettuce, tomato, onions and pepper jack cheese, with a Buffalo Ranch dressing. Michele had the Chicago Greek-town Gyro a classic Gyro. We also had the fried Zucchini sticks as an appetizer these were lightly battered and delicious. On my first visit, everything was great! Service, food, parking were spot on. We were told that the desserts are handmade. Entree portions are huge. I am happy to see a new restaurant in this area for locals and tourists to enjoy. This is an easy walk or short drive from the coast casinos and the Shuckers baseball field. The original owner of Mr. Greek just opened this place in the old Wayward Kraken by the baseball stadium. We started with the Greek sampler appetizer and it had a little of everything. Just watch out for the seeds in the olives. They give you plenty of pita bread to go with it, too. My wife ordered the spanakopita and they gave her three large pieces. I had the pastitsio which is like moussaka but with pasta. It was so good! Salads and sides were also included. For dessert, we each had some warm baklava. It is great to see new places like this open up and I hope they do well. Service was quick and friendly, too. Give them a try! read more

Pretty dang good! Out of my comfort zone but I look forward to trying more. I went in pretty hungry so the service felt slow and lots of people were getting food around me but everyone was really nice. Looks nice inside but their table clothes were big and heavy resting on my legs because the high top tables were smaller. It became frustrating in my hangry state but I wouldn't nock it a star for things that's so easily fixable in a newer restaurant. read more

Stopped in yesterday after the Shucker's game and we are happy to have this new addition to the downtown area. Feels like a Greek restaurant inside to add to the experience. The lunch specials are well-priced and generous. I had the spanakopita and he had the gyro plate. We were first served their Greek salad and it was quite tasty with a slab of feta - nice touch. Each lunch comes with their green beans and potatoes and they're very good. We both enjoyed our entrees and our shared bites! Our server was sweet - didn't get her name. First of all the staff is fantastic. Normally I immediately jump to the food but the people here treat you like family. The chef came out and Made me feel like I was his nephew. He truly was concerned if we liked everything. Next the food, we had the calamari to start and my wife had the snapper. I had the other fish. Both were so good we shared everything and then for dessert nothing beats the blueberry cheesecake. Out of this world. This is my first time going to the Acropolis Greek restaurant I live in Biloxi and drive-by it all the time it's been there for about a year. I have to say it's one of the best restaurants in town. The food was amazing Kristen our waitress was so welcoming and so informative, and she was a pleasure to have as our waitress. We were excited about being able to try this place as we love Greek food. My wife and I both just had gyros as the menu is much more limited than we expected. First the good: Service was excellent; our waitress was very personable & efficient. The restaurant was clean, comfortable & casual. The food however was a different matter. The small Greek salad was just ok but they really, really skimp on the feta. ( I also missed the Greek potato salad in the middle but I guess that's a regional thing). The biggest drawback was the gyro meat which was flavorless. It wasn't "bad" but it had no discernible taste whatsoever. After looking forward to visiting Acropolis this winter, they opened right after we left last year, we were both extremely disappointed so I cannot recommend. read more

What a phenomenal restaurant. My sister and I have traveled the world and tried foods everywhere you can think of! Especially seafood! The red snapper was to absolutely die for. The calamari (and trust me we have eaten calamari every way it can be prepared) was absolutely the best we have ever had! I'm not sure what made it taste so good but trust me if there is just one thing to order it would be the calamari. There were so many menu items that sounded delicious, I had a hard time choosing one. The Greek combo comes with moussaka, gyro meat, dolmades, and keftedes. Our favorite was the moussaka. The spanakopita meal was very delicious as well. Each of our dinners came with a Greek salad, Greek potatoes, green beans, pita, and tzatziki. I love how well seasoned and fresh the food tasted. This is a new Greek restaurant which had a busy lunch crowd on a Tuesday. They quickly brought us wine glasses as we brought a a bottle of wine. The drink order was ice water and a kids iced tea took 3 tries to get it right. I wanted the fish dinner platter but was told they don't serve this at lunch. The hummus was ok but should have come out quicker. My Athenian Chicken was well seasoned and was well cooked but the portion size was very small for the 14 dollar lunch special. My friend had the Moussaka which was also a tiny portion for the 14.25 lunch special. These were with sides of potato which was tasty but two small slices with a small serving of the traditional over cooked string beans and a lemon garnish. They forgot the salads until we asked for them as we are finishing our entrees. My friend asked for some extra peppers, for which they charged 4.95, the cost of a salad. The service over all was poor. The bill was so light it was heard to read but included cash and a surcharged credit card total. I ran a business that took credit cards and would never as my customers to pay my merchant swipe fee. If the owner doesn't like the fee then don't take credit cards. Paid cash and will not be back. Mr Greek is better over all. read more
