This is my most fav brunch spot in town. My girlfriend and I catch up on all our missed events and juicy convos while enjoying their bountiful bowls. The staff is pretty decent, they do their job to help around. Not really seen or experienced any "above and beyond" kinda service. The restaurant can be messy at times but that's inevitable considering how busy they are, unless they hire more people to keep the entire place tidy at all times. Anytime I go to Laguna I always crave an açaí bowl! Active Culture has amazing bowls that are a must after hikes and hot beach days! I got the velvet bowl and the toppings were delicious! I love a section of active culture is split into a small art exhibit, it's always a fun thing to look at when waiting for your order. I'm not a big fan of this place, and I find it's only redeeming quality to be the charm that comes from its location. As a snack after a hike at Top of the World, we got a Greek yogurt/açaí bowl that came topped with granola. Unfortunately, the bowl was more granola than anything else. It was not refreshing eating a bowl of granola -- it was dry and made something that should be the topping as the focus of the food. What sense does that make? The rest of the bowl was Greek yogurt blended with açaí, when I thought it would have been the two layered on top of each other. I guess it was my mistake for not clarifying how these two ingredients would have been combined. I would not come back here again for food, but possibly for a smoothie. We got a few samples and they tasted great -- I would next time get the Pick-Me-Up. But I am 100% staying away from any other food item on the menu! read more

They have a few parking spots in the back for customers, or you can park on the street or those nearby. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: Honestly, the inside is kind of sucky. It's pretty small and outdated. I'd recommend sitting outside instead. 2/5 SELECTION: They have lots of bowls, salads, wraps, smoothies, shakes, acai bowls, bagels, as well as self-serve frozen yogurt. They have lots of vegan options that are clearly labeled. Although I don't know why they label their acai bowls as vegan, when they come with honey, which isn't vegan (and like, why would you want to eat bee vomit?). But, you can just order them without honey. I just wish they had more vegan options for the frozen yogurt. 3/5 WHAT I GOT: The first time I went there, I got their Big Salad. It was pretty good, fresh, and clean, and it was good-sized. But, for about $14, it should've been bigger. That's like the price for a salad from a sit-down restaurant -- at least in my mind. It should have been like $11 at most. The second time I went there, I got the Velvet Acai Bowl without honey. It was meh. It was a good size, but I wasn't a fan of the acai blend. The flavor just wasn't there enough, and it slightly slushy. There was also a small chunk of acai puree that wasn't blended. Yess!! I love it when beaches have healthy restaurant options nearby! I saw Active Culture on Yelp while scouting/searching for pre/post-beach meals or snacks and knew I wanted to stop by here to pick up lunch togo before heading to the Thousand Steps Beach. I ordered the Whole Bowl per reviewers' recommendations and it did not disappoint! I opted out of cheese but that didn't take away from the deliciousness. Flavorful beans and rice covered by a layer of diced cabbage with their OG sauce poured on top AND avocado! It was very filling and I could only finish half at the time so leftovers for me! Which is always a plus because healthy and organic food is always on the pricer side.
