I came here for lunch today with a friend (Man, I am really on a roll of trying out new places this month!) and I've never been here before. There was a line out of the door at 12:00pm on a Tuesday. My friend was already in line, so I joined her and took a look at the menu. There is a separate lunch and general menu provided. I chose the Grilled Pesto Chicken Pita with a side of fruit. The cashier was very friendly, and the ordering process was easy. I also ordered a lemonade which legitimately tastes like mint and I loved it. The food arrived fairly quickly. I was taking a picture of a cute sign when the food runner came by to deliver the food and he definitely judged me for taking the picture. He gave me a look like "What are you doing?" and then said "Excuse me!" and rammed into my hand with my phone. I got the cute picture though, featured below. The food was just okay. My friend had a salad and fruit combination and she said that while it was good, it was very bland and simple. Although Adair is not expensive, it is a little pricey for what you get, and definitely not worth it for the flavor. It's your typical coffee/brunch/hipster burger place in the Galleria area. Just wanted a cappuccino and muffin/pastry of some sort that I could enjoy while reading for a while. The young girl working the register wasn't overly friendly, she has a job to do, she's doing it. I asked her what flavor of muffins they had, her answer was very uncertain but made sure to say that one flavor was "a walnut or almond but not banana muffin". Okay, I'd take that after I asked to make sure that it wasn't a banana muffin, to which she confirmed - but it was a banana muffin and I let her know and she just said, "oh well" and walked off. Sit at the bar, waiting for my cappuccino and it is brought to me but with no spoon or sugar. I ask, he brings me sugar and walks off. The staff at he bar likes their sidebar conversation...A LOT. Complaining about why one guy can't ever open on Wednesdays and the first girl I encountered passive/aggressively says loudly to anyone who might hear her, "So I guess I'm not getting a break today, that's cool!" The only thing I was not a big fan of was the hash browns. I love some hash browns, these were warm and toasty but the were alittle to smushy. Pros: -Casual atmosphere -Lots of parking -Little to no wait time -nice table set up Cons: -The restaurant operations here are an absolute mess. The people at the ordering counter don't seamlessly communicate with the bar, or the food delivery people. -The food is just ok. I ordered scrambled eggs with spinach and feta. They left the feta out, and the egg wasn't even cooked all the way. I actually had to send it back. (How do you mess up scrambled egg whites?) the banana pancake i ordered was good, but could have been better. -Because the place is run without waiters, no one busses the tables. So, you're sitting there the whole time with a table full of dirty dishes. -People hoard the tables even when they haven't even ordered, so finding seating could be a challenge. This set up can definitely be challenging when you have a large group with at least 5 or more people. I REEEAAALLLY wanted to like this place, because of the location and great reviews, but i was totally underwhelmed. The food is just okay. It wasn't enough for me to overlook all of the other issues. Whoever is over operations, needs to start from scratch. My husband is in the restaurant business, and this was his first observation and complaint. Our family took a holiday weekend in Houston for Labor Day weekend. While there I searched for places to eat using Yelp as my guide. We were staying at the Sonesta and it was Saturday night, I found Adair Kitchen and called to find out there was no wait. A short drive from our hotel found us in the parking lot of grocery shopping center. At the far end was a Jimmy John's and next door was Adair Kitchen. In Baton Rouge we have a restaurant of similar design called BRQ which, like Adair is a farm to table menu. Their menu is diverse and covers a lot of areas that the chef's create for each season. Walking in you are greeted with a spacious design, high ceiling, marble floor, nice wooden tables and comfy chairs. A big pig on the wall to remind you this is a farm fresh environment, or they have killer BBQ, or it just looked cool. With seating for couples up to large groups. There was a huge family next to us, but that didn't slow the wait staff from helping us. On the ceiling was a huge fan, I believe they're called Big Ass Fans (no joke, look it up) We were seated in the middle of the restaurant. A wonderful young lady was our waitress, we liked her a lot. We were brought bread and butter to much on while we perused the menu. I got the lean turkey meatloaf, my wife ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl while our adventurous 11 yo got the Chicken and Waffles. The portions were very large, none of us finished our meals (maybe because we ate too much bread and butter, smh) For dessert were ordered the S'More Brownie which was huge and over the top. We were full but there's always room for dessert right? What we liked best was the customer service was over the top awesome, we were not rushed at all, we felt like were at home. This added to our sense that were on vacation, even as they closed, they didn't rush us out of there. The waitress sensed we were not from the area, she kindly complimented that we were not like other local customers (I guess that was a compliment) she talked to us until after they closed. We were treated to some oversized snickerdoodle sugar cookies for our stay. It made for a great evening. Came here for Sunday lunch at 1pm when it was super busy, and was pleasantly surprised to see they still offered breakfast. I got the Two Eggs any style with choice of hash browns or black beans, white or wheat toast, and a side of strawberry preserves $6.95. Also added a single blueberry pancake $4, cause why not! I chose poached eggs (I mean did you even eat eggs if you didn't post a snap of you breaking the yolk??) and they were made well. No added salt or pepper, so it's customizable to your palette. The hash browns also were on the bland side, so I added ketchup. They were on the creamy side which tasted good, maybe due to some cheese in there? The wheat toast was dry (ok I know duh), but it tasted stale even when I spread the jam on top. Blueberry pancake was nothing special, IHOP quality. My friend got the fried chicken and waffles, and said it was crispy and "doesn't taste fried". Some fried chicken can feel heavy, this one is light which is always a plus when being health conscious. Be warned- parking is quite limited, especially during peak hours, so you may have to park in one of the nearby lots (Randall's, etc.). Although it's common to see patrons forming a line out the door, the line seems to move pretty quickly, as they have a speedy staff. The environment and decor feels like a nod to Austin. You'll find a range of business folks dressed in suits, sitting right next to a couple dressed in shorts and flip-flops. AK plays good music, and the food is moderately priced. I'm usually a bit disappointed by the portion sizes, but this is a great place to get something on the lighter side. I've tried a few different "super food bowl" options (~$10 to $15) as well as the make your own omlette (~$10). You order at the register, they give you a number and then they bring your food, and drinks. The gentleman who took our order was very helpful. It's not the cheapest food, but I think you do get a pretty decent portion (I made 2 meals out of mine) for the cost. I got their Greek Penne Pasta. Solid choice -- nothing spectacular or amazing about it, but it was good. Nice creamy and herbacious pesto with bits of tangy sun dried tomatoes and briny olives. If you're waiting on food and want to sip on something, they do have juice options that you can customize depending on the ingredients you like/dislike. I'm not really a fan of juice, so I opted out, but for any juice lovers out there, maybe this is another place to try! The Cholula does also give it some flavor if you want to add it. The hashbrowns - Not included, you buy seperate They have a creaminess to them, as if they have a chicken soup seasoning. Did not like it with ketchup or the avocado mash. Good on its own, almost like eating a pasta. Chicken and Waffles Waffle is nice and fluffy. Chicken is well seasoned but the grease is definitely heavy. Honestly would enjoy the waffle with just the strawberries. The chicken would be good with French fries. Syrup is simple nothing different which isn't a bad thing. Cappuccino By far the best I have ever had, almost tasted like a good bread, no need for sugar. It very well holds its own. Review the menu while you wait in line, you order when you get to the register. You find your own table it took about 30 to 40 minutes from the time I arrived to the time I sat down and actually ate my food. $30.20 hard on the wallet but a lot of people seem to love it. Chicken tastes like it's dipped in a hand made batter then carefully fried. Environment: Out of the 15 times I've been here, there has only been one late weekday evening where it was not packed. Mornings (and obviously weekends) are an absolute nightmare here. She was so rude and instead of apologizing and maybe trying to learn from me what the espresso should look like so that they can improve and actually serve decent espresso , she walked away saying she will remove it from the bill. I once went to Adair many years ago and remember being very satisfied with my order (I think it was a salad or something?). However, recently my friend got us to go lunch from Adair - the half sandwich half soup combo for both of us. The sandwiches were incredibly disappointing! I felt like could have made a better sandwich at home. They were just grilled chicken sandwiched between dry sandwich bread. I'm not sure if it's just because we ordered to go, but it was really sad to see lol. Plus she ordered a chicken salad sandwich, which is not one of the sandwiches we received. The soups on the other hand were pretty good (lemon artichoke and turkey chili), which is why I've given 3 instead of 2 stars. That along with I have a good memory of the first time I went. 1130 AM on a Thursday and there's already a line out the door! I've been wanting to come here for a while since it's so cute but haven't gotten the chance until now. It's the perfect place for a nice lunch/brunch date for sure. Service was quick and staff was friendly. I got my salad 5 min after ordering and sitting down. I love how they have such a variety of healthy options. I've been going low/no carb and this was the perfect place to go out and not break my diet. I ordered the goat cheese & blackberry salad ($9.95+$2.50 to add chicken). It was AMAZING!! And that's a pretty decent compliment considering its only a salad. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. It wasn't dry at all, it was actually pretty moist! There was also plenty of it in my salad. They definitely didn't hold back which a plus in my book. The champagne vinaigrette was light and a nice addition to the salad. The goat cheese complimented the blackberries which also added a nice refreshing, sweet component. My niece had picked this place out for us to have a lovely brunch during our stay in Houston and we were so excited to try it out but something seemed off the whole time we were there. From the beginning on getting some dirty looks from the customers while waiting in line to the girl ringing us up not cracking a smile. The vibe was definitely off and the food wasn't even that great. Dry bland chicken and waffles for me and miniature salty farmer's skillet for her.
