Adelle's is located within a few steps of the College Avenue Metra station, just east of the Wheaton College campus. The ambiance is decidedly contemporary, but very warm and cozy. The main dining room's corner fireplace and many windows to the patio add interest to the space. A smaller dining room overlooks College Avenue. The space works for a variety of parties. I have dined here several times with my husband -- we walked over for dessert while in labor with our third child! I have spent a mealtime with a large group of women from church (we were sure to visit on Wednesday when wine bottles are 1/2 price). My latest trip was a group of three couples. The restaurant accommodates all these guest arrangements beautifully. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. The food is great! I particularly recall an avocado soup that was excellent -- well seasoned, fresh and creamy. The salads are fresh and combine a variety of flavors effectively. Entrees are creative and specials change regularly. I have enjoyed several different seafood offerings and never been disappointed. So, make a special train trip on Wednesday for 1/2 price wine bottles, or venture out one day later for WDCB Live Jazz Thursdays. This is a great local restaurant. read more

Finally, after about two years....we made it to Adelle's. It was a very nice total experience. The ambience was quite nice, the service was very attentive, and our food was excellent....The significant other had tilapia...I had the braised short ribs....each was terrific.....I can picture myself sitting out on the patio on a nice summer's evening....all in all, a good, good restaurant. read more

I LOVE Adelle's, it is our go to for a really good quality date night. We love the atmosphere and menu!!! Every time I go I order the mixed greens salad with the baked goat cheese, sundried tomatoes and artichokes, it is absolutely mouth watering good. And then my husband and I always share the special risotto, the plate is always completely cleaned!!! If I'm feeling really hungry I'll usually get a fish entree and my husband likes the duck. And if we're even extra hungry, we know the dessert is for an extra special night because it's so rich tasting. I would highly recommend going to Adelle's for a great date night or girl's night out!!!! One of my favorite local restaurants. read more

We love the food at Adelle's! In addition to dining at Adelle's a number of times, we recently had our wedding reception at Adelle's and so have had the pleasure of tasting the majority of the food on their menu, which we found exceedingly delicious! The chef is very creative and artistic in his dishes. Try his watermelon salad if it's in season and don't miss any of his risottos! Both the indoor and outdoor dining areas are beautiful, as well as their lounge. Debi, the owner was an absolute pleasure to work with for our reception. Went back to Adelle's over the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Couldn't have made a better choice. The food and drinks are superb. The bar had a nice crowd with a good jazz band. What topped off the night was somehow Adelle's recalled from last year the date of wedding anniversary...and bought us a round of drinks on the house. What a nice touch and classy place. OK so this is tough for me because I have liked this restaurant for years. The food is very very good. Always good. What's the problem then? Value. Had dinner there this week with my wife. Two wedge salads, an asparagus appetizer we,split, a bowl of,risotto, and one glass of wine and one gin and tonic. Dinner bill was $90.00. Risotto here is the best,ever. Ordered the entree of risotto, it's the same size of what they used to,serve,as,an appetizer, only it's now $34.00 for a small bowl of rice? Again, food is excellent. I have traveled all around this country and enjoy excellent restaurants, but I don't enjoy when I leave and feel taken advantage of. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but this has become in my estimation a poor value. We also ate in the outside patio, and the table was so dirty it had clearly not been wiped down in what looked like days. Foods good, service is good, but I feel they are trying to squeeze more dollars, and in the process, frustrating customers. Just was not worth nearly a hundred plus dollars,with tip. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Adelle's for our anniversary dinner yesterday and left highly disappointed. Previously to choosing the restaurant we looked over the menu and were excited to go. When we sat down to dinner the ambiance was nice, but definitely not the place for younger couples. The tables are crammed closely in a dinning area where it's a struggle to get out of the chair without bumping someone or have an intimate conversation. Throughout dinner we got dirty looks from all the older couples in the room and we're made uncomfortable. Now to get on with the review..the food is decently priced for an upscale restaurant. But the food was tasteless. I got a pot roast that sounded good but when it arrived tasted bland. How can you mess up a pot roast?! Moving on to desert..I ordered the raspberry brownie and it tasted like a hostess brownie. It looked plastic and tasted awful. Without finishing any of our food we left the restaurant with our stomachs rumbling and our wallet crying. Definitely a big disappointment for our anniversary dinner. I have been to Adelle's many times (about 8-10 in the past year and a half), and usually have had great experiences. The food has been consistently good. I have had dishes that were AMAZING and also had some that were okay, but I always feel that I was prepared a quality meal. The main dining room is, by far, the best place to be seated (except for the patio in warmer weather). It has great atmosphere (but it can feel a little cramped at times). There is an "overflow" room, but I highly suggest not sitting in there if that is an option (there isn't much ambiance to it). Service has always been good (with two or three exceptions). In the main dining room, we have always had great service (and very adequate service when the place is busy). When we are in the overflow room (have been seated in there three times), service has tended to be very very much below adequate, and you can get the impression that servers focus more on the main room than the overflow. After reading other reviews, I would suggest that if you want to take a party of five or more, ask to be seated in the overflow room. Even though my service experiences in that room have been not so good, I have a feeling that a group would receive better attention...plus there is a little more space, and you can be a little louder and not worry about making other parties feel uncomfortable or annoyed. Overall, a great place that is consistently good in food quality and service. Just try to arrange seating in the main dining room for better ambiance and (in my opinion) better service. read more

This is a great restaurant. My husband and I went to Adelle's to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere is nice, but comfortable. The owners where present at the bar that night and very friendly. They have something to be proud of. We shared the sea scallop appetizer and some great wine. My husband ordered the filet and I ordered the Herb crusted white fish. The flavors were present but not overwhelming. The meals were cooked perfectly as requested. The service was attentive and helpful. We were seated promptly and I will definitely be back. read more

Way overpriced and food quality did not equate to the cost

This is a cumulative review, as we have been going to Addelle's for many years. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. Chef John is highly creative and pairs flavors in an inspired manner. We do have our favorite servers, the Johns (Funk and Dixon), but have always had pleasant competent servers when our favorites were not available. We often grab an appetizer and glass of wine (there is a great wine list) at the bar and Sher is delightful as a bartender/ server. Tuesdays are no corkage fee, so if you are an oenophile like us bring your own bottle or two to pair with with your meal. Many nights you can hear an eclectic mix of artists performing music in the bar before or after your meal. Favorite dishes include the chef's risotto, which changes from week to week, the Copper River Salmon, when in season, short ribs, pot roast, portobello fries, duck confit gnocchi and on and on. The chocolate mousse and whatever the bread pudding of the day is, are always great meal enders. The owners, Debbie and Todd are always on hand to make sure you have an enjoyable experience (Don't hesitate to tell them if you are having a problem). In a time of ever decreasing discretionary income, this is a place where you receive maximum bang for your buck. read more

I hate to leave a negative review for a local restaurant, but this was an especially disappointing meal. Our salads were limp and underdressed, and the bread was stale. The schnitzel was dry and stringy, despite a soggy crust, and the pot roast and meat loaf each were overcooked. (I know it's hard to imagine overcooked pot roast, but it was dry as a bone.) However, the service was warm and attentive from top to bottom. Adelle's would be almost worth attending, if only for those reasons. We will chalk it up to a bad night (despite the resonance between our criticisms and those of other diners) but may not return for some time. read more

When I walked into Adelle's I was extremely impressed with the Ambiance, it was perfect lighting, and had a nice warm feeling to it. The layout was perfect, not crowded and not at all empty. The light fixtures were absolutely gorgeous. But that isn't what was most impressive about this beautiful place. It was very difficult to choose from their vast menu because the detailed descriptions of each and every appetizer, entree and dessert sounded absolutely mouth watering. I ordered the "Pan seared chicken," on the side were mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes. When I asked to change up the mushrooms for something else, it was not a problem, I was given a great list of other yummy choices. When the food came, the presentation was great, but what I wasn't expecting was the wonderful taste that came with it. The lemon sauce really brought an amazingly zesty flavor to my chicken and the rosemary spiced up my potatoes to create one of the best dinners I've had in a long time. Perfectly proportional also, not too little, not too much. Last, but certainly not least the service was outstanding. My particular waiter was funny, kind and tended to our needs perfectly. We were out for a special occasion and wanted a nice place. I had made a reservation not knowing how busy they may be. We arrived on time, there were many empty tables but the snooty owner seated us right next to a double door that led to the kitchen. When we realized we were seated at the worst possible table in the whole place we had to ask to be moved. It was so unnecessary. I made a reservation, it was not busy, bad form on their part. Food was ok, at least that's what I thought until about 2:30 a.m, when I had stomach issues and got sick- yes- throwing up. Not good. Only positive was our server was very good. I could never recommend Adelle's after this experience. Oh, and as we left, the owners were standing at the host stand and couldn't even muster up a thank you for coming! Very rude. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for a date night and it was delicious! We started with the calamari which had a nice crispiness and a great sauce. For entrees we had the meatloaf and the breaded chicken. Both were great portions, had delicious sides and were juicy and flavorful. Overall, we were happy. The prices were fair for the quality of the food and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Our only complaint was that our waitress was visibly unhappy that we did not order drinks or dessert. The table near us ordered more and had a much more pleasant experience with her than us. When we declined drinks and dessert her tone and expressions gave way to irritation. We still left a nice tip because of her promptness and care, but we wish she wasn't so grouchy for a couple wanting a nice date night on a budget. read more

The last time I went to Adele's I did not have the best experience (see review from 2/25/13) but tonight's dinner more than made up for it. My friend who has several allergies was well taken care of. She was able to swap out the parts of the dish that she couldn't have for food she could eat and it was delicious as usual. The sweet corn soup with a smoked scallop garnish was divine. I usually get a meat dish when I eat out but I was persuaded by our waiter to try the angel hair carbonara and it was very good. We had the Goose Island root beer float, which was a great treat. Great atmosphere and service. The 5 - 3 - 5 menu in the bar is a great bargain. Small plates to share. The chicken liver mouse is one of my favorite appetizers as are the tempura green beans and calamari. The new parmesan risotto cake appetizer is a keeper. I have mixed reviews for Adelles. The first time I ever dined at this location, it was an outstanding experience. The food and service were spot on, the outdoor seating area was well groomed and kept clean, and it was a lovely time. The second time we went, the service was slow in a near-empty restaurant, two different items we tried to order from the menu were sold out (again, early, on a near-empty night), and there was a problem with our check when it arrived. Disappointed since the first time left such a positive memory. Maybe the new location will fix the old problems. read more

I'm hesitant to give this place a 4-star after only visiting it once and only ordering appetizers, but I was that impressed with the food and atmosphere. We were a party of 8 ladies celebrating a birthday this past Tuesday. The room had only two seated tables when we arrived, but as the night progressed, was actually full by 8:30 PM (on a Tuesday, in the middle of winter, in Wheaton!!!! Go figure!!) I asked for (and got) the fireplace table, which made the experience so much better. The food was pleasantly good-to-excellent. We ordered the mini burgers, which were fresh tasting and grilled, fried string beans were the hit of the night, perfectly crispy (but not too much batter) and a great sweet/sour sauce, fish taco's were good, not soggy, and plentiful for an appetizer. (The fresh cabbage gave it the crunch it really needed.) Lobster spring rolls tasted a little fishy, but the sauce was vinegary-sweet and good with crushed peanuts. Tuna tartar was a beautiful tower of avocado, tuna and something crispy at the bottom. I didn't get a taste of that one (pigs at our table!!). Overall, the service was a tad slow and uninteresting, but good enough. The wine flowed as expected, so we didn't notice the lag too much. I hope this place can keep it's rating with me. We're going back on a Friday for a full dinner. read more

My husband and I had dinner here on Friday night. We were both disappointed in the food for the amount we spent. We shared the appetizer of scallops wrapped in bacon and then I had the salmon and my husband had a filet. There was nothing outstanding about our meals and it seemed very average. We spent, with tip, over $100 and didn't even have dessert. Also, I had only one glass of wine and my husband had a soda. For this price, I would expect a lot more from the quality of food. We don't mind spending money on a great meal but I don't like to spend this much on an average meal. I don't think we'll be back and couldn't recommend it when there are better, less expensive options in the Western Suburbs. I will say that the best part of my dining experience was sitting by the fireplace. That was a very cozy element and nice surprise to the evening. read more

Having had a good experience on our first visit, my wife and I returned for a second visit to celebrate our anniversary. The experience was somewhat of a diappointment because our expectations were high from our first visit and due to consistently good reviews from friends. While the main dining room is charming, we were seated in a secondary area created from the adjoining store-front. While the room is ok, a little staid for our taste, it just lacks the coziness of the main room. The outdoor patio is also charming. The portobello appetizer is very good, and the salads are solid. We were told that the owner had brought the tomatoes in from her own garden that day. I had a halibut special that was a little overcooked while my wife enjoyed a beef dish. On a previous visit, I had a terrific pork dish. While we will probably return again, I think the prices have crept up from what I remembered. It seems a little more like a white tablecloth place now than the somewhat casual homestyle restaurant that it was upon opening. read more

The food has always been pretty good, but the service stinks since they moved to this newer location. I've tried it 5 or 6 times, but I still have the same problems. Hostess doesn't greet me, I have to get her attention away from chatting with other employees. And wait service is super slow. All the drinks at our table were empty for so long that all the ice melted and we drank the melted ice. Lost revenue if you ask me. It's just too bad because I may not go back. There are other restaurants with good food and good service. So why settle? read more

A fairly large, brand new space. Nice bar when you walk in. Large dining space segmented into three rooms. Lots of parking, good location. Menu is traditional upscale American. Wine list is good, lots of good beer on tap. Crowd is clearly affluent and skews a bit older. My experience: Pros: - Pretty good food. I had a cassoulet, wife had scallops. Both were tasty and well prepared if not exactly daring. This is a good place for a "nice dinner". - Excellent service. From the bartender to the waiter to the busboys, service was top-notch throughout. Really can't say enough here, they did an excellent job. - Attractive, quiet (but not too quiet) dining room. Everything is brand new. Tables are well spaced. This is a great space for a "date night". Cons: - Extremely pricey for the suburbs. $30 entrees. $15 apps. $10 salads (not included with entrees), $15 desserts. Hefty markups on drinks. It's easy to get close to $100/person if you get everything. This is premium pricing and one of the highest I've seen around Wheaton. For what you're getting here, I'd say the pricing is too high, YMMV - Fairly run-of-the-mill food. No sushi. Lots of fried apps. Lots of steak/chicken/pork. You get the idea. I think the target market of this restaurant is affluent 55-60 year olds and it shows in the menu. Nothing wrong with it at all, I'm just hoping to eat something I've never had before at these prices. - Desserts were weak. I don't think they have a pastry chef. Pistacchio gelato was just a giant bowl of ice cream with some weak chocolate sauce. Cheesecake looked store bought. This is typical at lots of restaurants in the 'burbs. People aren't willing to pay a premium for a truly nice dessert so you get your basic pre-bought chocolate cake / ice cream stuff. It's always a bit disappointing. It's a fine restaurant and a very pleasant evening, but I dont think we'll go back soon. The main issue is that we can't really afford these prices, especially as I don't think it's that special a place. Lots of restaurants around here offer comparable (or better) food at lower prices. Adelle's was wall-to-wall packed when we were there so it's obviously working for them and I'm probably in the minority in this view. read more

For fine dining you expect ambiance, quality service exceptional food especially on mothers day. not here. we were put in a dark back room with 6 tables. I had to flag down the waiter several times, plus he didn't understand anything we were saying. for the price I could have ate at Jamiesons or Outback with much better service , prices and quality. The food was average, nothing special very overpriced.. I could have made better mash potatoes with flavor and cooked the green beans. skip this place for sure. very very disappointed on a special occasion read more

The first time I heard of Adelle's was while I was watching Check Please! The reviews that the guests were giving sparked my interest and being a huge "foodie" I just had to go and try it. My wife and I decided to make that our Valentine's Day spot and am I glad we did! It's located in a residential area but right by one of the Metra stops. Let me start by saying, I have not one bad thing to say about Adelle's! The service was outstanding, never overbearing or constantly in your face......our server always seemed to show up at the right moment throughout our meal. My wife loves risotto, so we started with that as our appetizer......outstanding! There were so many things that were making my mouth water on the menu that it was hard to choose but I picked a fish special for the evening and I've never had fish flake the way theirs did.....cooked to perfection. My wife went with their chicken dish on the menu because it was creamy and had capers, she loves them, and I have to say, something as simple as chicken.....they made it taste like nothing I've ever had. We ended our night with the pistachio gelato......to die for and I'm not a dessert person. I only drank wine, my wife was unable to drink, pregnant, but it was a very nice wine selection along with the option of bringing in you own bottle and just paying a corkage fee. All in all....we love it! We can't wait to go back and they have an outdoor area that we are looking forward too. read more

We were excited to try Adeles after reading the reviews. I had read about the nice bar. When we got there there was a young woman with her mother and another lady who already said she had got shished but was still a bit loud. We were having a nice time talking to her mother and friend before this girl just got flat out mean. Her mother was obviously embarrassed. She start degrading us because we were not from Wheaton but from Warrenville and many other things. She was already a problem before we got there and she should have been removed. The food was good actually but it was a terrible experience due to the drunken mean patron at the bar that they should have removed. Probably will not go again even though it was nice.
