If you are looking for a new great breakfast (or lunch or dinner) on the Hill near the CU campus, this is your place! I was really surprised that there was such a light crowd when we were there because the food was awesome and the server was incredibly nice. From the mushroom omelet to the vegetarian pupusas (an El Salvador favorite that I had never tried), everyone at the table loved their meal. The food is full of great flavors and is more unique and interesting than other food choices nearby. The place is fairly new, and I guess they did not have their liquor license until recently, so I am not sure if that has held people back from trying it. If so, be sure to try it out. read more

We typically enjoy dining at Ado's before attending events at Mackey auditorium on CU's campus. This Saturday night, we invited friends to join us there for their first visit. I ordered Riesling wine. Our server told us they did not have any. Our friends ordered the artichoke appetizer. Our server told us they were out of it. I ordered a salad with steak. Our server came back and said they did not have the steak on the menu but had a lesser cut of meat to offer in its stead. When it came time for dessert, the server told us that there were no desserts to offer us. Please note that this took place at 5:30 PM on a Saturday night. What a tremendous disappointment!!! We were embarrassed to have invited others to join us there.The food is good, sometimes very good, but the absence of menu items signals a real problem to me. read more

Absolutely fantastic. Although I was initially skeptical of the New American/Spanish/Italian label on their window, that skepticism was immediately banished as we inhaled the fried brussels. I'm not always a fan of brussels but these were nothing short of addicting with the apple vinaigrette reduction (or whatever that unholy combination was). I ordered the chicken marsala and was thoroughly impressed. Even after I finished the entire plate and loosened my belt a bit (portions are more than adequate, I'm just a large man and tuck away quite a bit of food), I felt like the menu was begging me to order more. Luckily, my girlfriend ordered the carbonara and had a small amount left over. She spent 6 months abroad in Italy a couple years back, and told the owner (Ado, who came out to talk to us) that this particular carbonara was so delicious it opened up a floodgate of memories from Italy. We will be back to try brunch. And to retry dinner. And then to retry both several times again. Heck, I might even drive from Longmont to try lunch someday. read more

Incredibly food, this is truly fine dining without the cost. Great place on the. Hill. I had the eggs Benedict. Instead of sitting on an English muffin it was on a crispy polenta cake. Really delicious with a tasty hollandaise sauce. I ordered a side of potatoes along with it . They were cubed and crispy. Just how I like them . My friend had plantains in a savory cream which was incredibly delicious. Came before before CU game. Understaffed, but they were working their butts off. Working in the restaurant industry for 15 years I don't mind waiting an extra 5 minutes for a beer when I see the servers running around. Despite the customers barking orders and snapping their fingers, my bf and I had a pleasant time. Especially nice that from our corner table we could watch the football game through the window. What a unique gem to find on the hill. This place has a more upscale vibe than most places on the hill which is a refreshing change from the grab n go joints that populate the area. The dishes are unique and varied. I had the chayote squash with risotto, which was beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. I met a couple friends here for lunch and had my toddler in tow. The kids' menu is small, but they are very accommodating and kindly offered to whip up some off-menu items for him. He happily devoured the appetizer pupusa though. The quality of the food here is really supurb and some of the best in Boulder. We'll definitely be back and hope to check out the happy hour/drink selection next time! read more

Went there last night with friends and, yes, the place was quiet. The entire hill was quiet but since they just got their liquor license we wanted to give it a try. There was no happy hour yet but they said that is in the works. We went to Vapor Distillery for HH and had some wine at the restaurant. The food was excellent. All four of us were just very happy with our selections. We split a salad and Ado recommended the spicy shrimp for me. Just superb. I'm not good at remembering all the names of the foods I had I'll leave that up to my wife and perhaps edit this review later. But suffice it to say I can't wait to go back and try something else. The prices were very reasonable with $16 the average price of an entree. They had 2 specials but I didn't feel like spending the extra money for those. It was Sea Bass and steak with large portions. I might suggest he downsize the specials and lower the price but there was much to chose from so that was not a big deal. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a great new restaurant you really should give this a try. It felt like home cooking, which it was. You can't go wrong. edit: The 2 girls had Chicken Marsala ($16) awesome. I had Shrimp Salvadorian ($16) ridiculously delicious and my friend had a different chicken dish which was great too. We absolutely love this place and highly recommend it. The menu is diverse and, having eaten there a number of times, everything we have tried has been absolutely delicious. It's so nice to find wonderful places to eat that are away from downtown Boulder. The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of the dishes served. The menu provides really interesting options, like the pistachio encrusted salmon and the stuffed chayote peppers (sooooo yummy!!!). And we've always had impeccable service--really attentive, kind, friendly staff. We always go with our toddler and they have great options for her, as well. Definitely family friendly. Ado's is locally owned and we'd love to continue supporting these guys to keep doing what they're doing and bringing their goodness to the Hill. read more

Went there for a business meeting not expecting to eat. Decided to try the Lamb burger and have to say that it is now a favorite burger. They cooked it perfectly medium rare. I was worried about how to eat it Ketchup and Mustard?? Don't spoil the burger with that because the pesto sauce on the burger perfectly flavors the lamb. They matched the burger with a great Malbec wine that topped off the great meal. I am looking forward to going back for more! read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat on the hill next to the university. The food is excellent -- I always get the Salvadoran shrimp with rice and salad, which is just phenomenal. However, other people have tasted other dishes and everyone is always happy. It's one of the more "grown-up" places on the hill, a nice alternative to sandwiches or pizza, etc. You can bring a university guest or speaker here with a large group, and they can accommodate; it is relatively quiet with no loud music blaring, which means you can actually have a conversation. read more

My friend and I were looking forward to trying this place out after all the good reviews. When we got there, our server gave us water and splashed water on the table. We had to ask him to wipe the table. I really wanted to try the Mexican chillaquiles but it had chicken in it. Since I was vegetarian, I asked our server if they could make it vegetarian. The server proceeded to tell me that it was a bad idea, it would taste horrible and he wouldn't even want to serve that to me. He was basically telling me in a really loud voice, you just want to eat chips, eggs and sauce?! I was a bit horrified at his reaction. I told him that I had vegetarian chillaquiles before and could he please ask the chef if they could make it like that. So after looking skeptically at me, he went to ask the chef if they could make it vegetarian. The chef said no. Not sure what was so difficult about removing chicken from a salsa. But I was not surprised by this point. I ordered the mushroom omelette instead. It tasted fine. Like a mushroom omelette. Nothing to write home about. My friend had ordered the eggplant florentine dish. She also said her dish was ok. Nothing too amazing. But then while eating her meal, she found a piece of plastic wrapping in her food! I told her to complain about it but she was hesitating because she didn't want to berated by the server like I was. By that time, the chef came out to check on his patrons. He stopped by our table. So my friend told him about the plastic packaging in her food. He was nice enough to not charge her for her food. He asked how her meal was in spite of the plastic. She said it was ok. When she said it was ok, the chef became a bit agitated. He asked her, just ok? So she said yes. Then he said, well you seem to have eaten most of it. Then he was pressing her to tell him what she thinks should be done to make the meal taste better than ok! We are not chefs! How are we supposed to know how to make something better?! He made my friend so uncomfortable and made her feel bad about her review. If my friend was not impressed, it was her honest opinion. The entire meal experience was horrifying. I have never had such a weird experience anywhere. Will never go back! I give one star because the chef took my friend's meal off the ticket. read more

Came here for my birthday after a long, tiring hike with a huge appetite. We were greeted at the door by a gentleman who later intro'd himself as our server. His demeanor was a little cold and un-enthusiastic. We sat and ordered a spinach salad with some sort of fruit dressing and the artichoke hearts. They were both very good. I can't recall what I had for lunch, but it went downhill right about the time we had our entrees dropped off. This was the last we had seen of our server. There was no follow up. At one point there was no staff visible for almost 10 minutes. We just looked around in confusion as did the one other table in the restaurant. We wanted dessert, refills, boxes. Received neither, when I finally saw a kitchen employee- I ran to him with my card so he could just get us out of there. Not sure what happened, but likely will not visit again. read more

My girl and I had dinner here before seeing Son Volt at the Fox. The food is really good. The service was great too. We shared a dish that had "black rice" and both loved it. Plus, we saw 4-5 other dishes come out that we want to try. We'll definitely go back. The downside is that there is zero ambiance. Not what you're used to in most restaurants. My book group met here last night and we were blown away by the quality of the food. Chef Ado does it all himself, including his native Salvadoran recipes and much more. The Hill needs this place--delicious food at excellent prices given the quality. My Salvadoran shrimp with rice was made with saffron--genuine threads, not just powder. That's the sign of a serious chef. Our group is praying Span-ish is given the liquor license it will need to survive.
