I needed a suit dry cleaned ahead of graduation and politely called to see if they can take my suit. I was yelled at by the manager and couldn't understand his response. I'm sure he had a lot of orders, but I went ahead and went to drop off my suit because they were the nearest dry cleaners. When I walked in the manager was yelling at customers and being a complete angry mess. I was shocked and decided to not do business. This is definitely my new go-to dry cleaner. I brought in my pea coat, which was pretty disgusting after not having been cleaned for over a year, and they returned it to me looking better than it did when I bought it. They told me it'd be ready in three days, but I didn't have time to pick it up until a week later, and they never bothered me with phone calls as other places have done before. The service was great. I couldn't find the USC students coupon because I don't have the latest version of the SCampus (it's in the back of the 2009 SCampus, for those who are curious), but the guy at the counter printed it out for me so I could make copies for the next time I come back. I have taken about 30 shirts and a suit here. Afterwards I would be at work and wonder why my collars kept flipping up. I thought that maybe my shirts were getting old but then realized no, it's just that my cleaners presses them completely wrong. Took my shirts to a different cleaners, problem solved. And these aren't exotic, made out of spider silk and highly flammable materials type shirts - we are talking about plain old Nordstrom/BR dress shirts. Also, they managed to stain/burn one of my shirts. However, they were kind enough to put a little tag on it saying the stain would not come out. Finally, the prices are not very good. They charged me $3 per shirt which is a complete rip-off considering the quality of cleaning being provided and the fact that you will be buying new shirts to replace the ones they ruin. Highs: they have pictures of pretty people on the walls Lows: drycleaning, prices, pictures on the walls may keep you from noticing the condition of your garments. Overall: Don't do it. read more

I spilled black coffee on my favorite dress as I was getting out of the car for an all-day conference at USC. Luckily, I always have an emergency outfit in my car. I Yelped the nearest dry cleaner and found this wonderful spot, which was super close to USC. The staff was incredible and calmed me down, assuring that coffee wouldn't ruin my beautiful Kate Spade number. I told them I needed it for a cocktail event after the conference. The lady promised she'd call me as soon as it was ready. I got my call and came back in the evening and the dress was in perfect condition, ready to debut itself at the event. I was so impressed by the fast service, great prices, and customer service. I've actually left tons of expensive clothing behind because dry cleaners never bother to call. This is a great exception and I'd highly recommend this if you live in the area or work downtown. They even offer coupons/discounts for USC students! read more

I go cause Aunty Ruby always makes my day. The service is great and you'll feel like a valued customer. Don't forget your coupon if you are a USC Student (It's in your SCampus). She also lets you keep it for next time. They are always inundated with USC orders, but they always get it back to you in a timely manner. I've never seen anyone else in this place other then Aunty Ruby and her dog. There was one mis-hap though where I believe one of my shirts got mixed with another order. For I was left with a shirt that I have no recollection of buying and a missing dress shirt. Ironically, didn't start coming here until after I graduated USC. Started working full-time and needed to find a good place to get my dress shirts and pants cleaned properly. Since they were across the street, I decided to give them a chance. Inside the cleaners is really nice. There are pictures of different USC teams, greek life, and other collegiate related things that really help the place stand out and make students or alumni feel welcome. Have nothing but good things to say about the service. Anytime I bring my clothes here, I always get a two day return time no matter the amount of clothes I drop off! Price seems reasonable for what I usually have cleaned (dress shirts, suits, and jeans mostly). I had a stain on a suede jacket and it was removed beautifully. The jacket looks brand new. That being said, I have 3 gripes about this place: 1. The suede stain removal cost $40 to fix, which was ridiculous. And the 20% off with check-in discount did not apply 2. It had to be outsourced and took over a week to be ready 3. Totally mortified with the service here. I brought a brand-new, never-been-worn, direct from the online retailer dress here for a quick alteration. When picking up the dress, it seemed ok in their dark lighting. However, after getting home and viewing the dress in a normal light, there was 2 MASSIVE brown stains on a starch white dress. I called Advance Cleaners multiple times during business hours as I drove back there before their 7pm closing time. They were already closed, PRIOR to their said closing time. I would give this spot 3 1/2 stars if I could, but I'm giving it four because of the excellent service. My only major critique is that I would not recommend bringing dress shirts here. I have a white dress shirt that I often bring to be cleaned with my suit. I've never had a problem with my suits, but the shirts always come back with a very strong clay-like odor. I even pointed this out and asked for it to be recleaned, but it was returned the next day with the same foul odor, and it didn't fade away until I washed it myself. Other than that, it's a good store. The lady behind the counter is very sweet and helpful. Service is prompt; I've never waited more than two days and they are always on time. The clay-odor only occurs with my shirts; my suits have always returned perfectly clean with no problems. So if you're looking for a quick spot to get something dry cleaned, this is a safe bet. One of my friends that's a student at SC introduced me to Advance Dry Cleaners. She started going there when she was an undergrad at SC and never stopped after she graduated. I think they offer specials to students but either way, their used to doing tons of laundry for the tens thousands of students at the University so they've gotten pretty good at getting clothes cleaned quickly while still doing a great job. I bring my clothes in here and pick it up the next day every time. The staff is always friendly and they are super cheap. They aren't the closest dry cleaner to me by any means but their cheap prices and excellent work make the trip more than worth it. read more

A lot of my friends stopped going to advance cleaners because they over charge majorly, and have messed up their orders, but I've been their a few times for some minor items that I was too scared to wash regular and never had too much of an issue---until today. I had a new purse that had a slight blue stain on it so I took it in to see how much it would cost to clean. The lady said she didn't know and that the purse cleaning man would be back next week. I told her that I would like her to give me a quote before giving it to him (I'm a poor college kid...) so she agreed to call me first. Well the next week came around and I decided to call her. She informed me that it had already been cleaned and would cost $45 dollars. I told her I never agreed to those charges and we had already talked about getting a quote first. She said she remembered that and she's sorry. She said she would call me. When she did, she told me she could offer $5.00 off. (WOOWWWWW) I just went in to get my bag back. I explained that I didn't agree to the service and that this was not my error. She apologized but it didn't make a difference because they still wanted me to pay. I asked to speak to the manager and she called him. I re-explained the situation, (though she already told him about it after our previous phone call) and told him that it was his business that made the mistake and it is not fair, that's not how a "customer service" business should be run, forcing customers to pay for things they never agreed to ....to which he began SCREAMING at me and threatening to ruin my bag before giving it back. I hung up on him (mostly because I was scared sh*tless). The lady told me I could have it back for $20, so I just paid, for fear that he would actually ruin my purse beyond repair. Since my review is now seven years old and Ruby is retired now, I thought I'd just let my fellow Yelpers know that these folks are still providing the same great service as ever. This marks 22 years of my patronage of this place. * Never once have they damaged anything I brought them to be cleaned. * Never once has a hem they mended come undone. (although I've given some of those old clothes away to Goodwill by this time!) * Never once have they been late with a job, or even failed to have it ready sooner than expected, if I stop in a day early accidentally. * Never once have they lost track of my stuff in the Monsters Inc.-like maze of motorized hanging tracks, which seems like a miracle of organization. * Never once have they discarded something because I forgot to pick it up within a reasonable time. (See my original review for a glimpse of their above-and-beyond customer service.) ° Perhaps twice in twenty years have they failed to remove a stain or smudge, and both times they took the trouble to point it out to me in person when I picked it up, and explained what they tried and what they didn't think it wise to try, to remove the stain. My grasp of chemistry isn't what it ought to be, so I didn't really understand their explanations, but it's enough for me to know that they know what they are doing and won't accidentally replace a nearly-invisible stain with a too-visible hole burned through the fabric. I've been to this place about half dozen times over the past two years. The lady who use to run the show was always friendly and joked with me. I'd usually go on a Saturday and her departing words would usually be something along the lines of "Go Trojans." I just politely nodded and waved. It was the best I could muster being a UCLA Alumni staying with my fiancee near USC. There's a place closer to my fiancee's, but I chose Advance because the lady was nice and the service was decent. However, within the last few weeks, I've been disappointed. The lady isn't there anymore. I don't know where she went. Some younger guy runs the place now. It seems as if he runs it for her. In any case, it's just isn't as good. Yesterday I went in to get my shirts and one wasn't ready. It didn't come back with the rest. The guy tried to give me some excuse about it taking longer when there are stains on it. It didn't' have any stains on it when I dropped it off. I take my shirts and leave. My fiancee goes back the next day. It's not there. They can't find it. Eventually they figure out it's at the other store (wherever that is). Great, so now we have to make a third trip just to pick up one set of cleaning. That's no good at all. This triple inconvenience isn't worth the service that's no longer there. I'm going elsewhere. I'm giving two stars because it could've been worse. They're not charging me for the last shirt and the guy wasn't a complete jerk - only semi-incompetent. read more

Tapered a pair of slacks and they didn't even bother taking apart the pants and measuring it out correctly. left huge creases half way up the pant leg 2. hemmed the same pair of slacks and didnt even trim the excess pant leg and relock them.. instead, just folded and sewn. 3. refused to alter a jacket citing "they don't do that" but in reality they don't do anything that requires hard work. 4. left an odd stain on my jacket thanks for nothing read more

A very bad experience with them, they altered my trousers to a wrong size, and I didn't know that until I got home. After I found the problem, I went back to tell them the problem, and they promised to make the size right for free, but when I went back to pick it up next week, the owner said that it is impossible for them to make this kind of mistake and kept asking me to " listen to him", but never gave me any chance to talk, and his attitude was VERY VERY VERY RUDE. Dry cleaning always come out great, but alterations not so much. I recently had the sleeves of two shirts shortened. During measurements, they looked great, but I didn't realize until I got home after I picked them up that the sleeves were shortened too much. In retrospect, I should have asked them to tailor one shirt, see how it turned out, and then decide if I wanted them to tailor the other one. read more

Some people complain that it costs 3-5 bucks to dry clean a shirt, but that's what you pay for quality and you will definitely get it here. The customer service is great.
