    Samosa Chaat

Came here with a friend on a Sunday evening, and made a reservation in advance on OpenTable, although we didn't really need one because there were enough empty tables when we arrived. The tables are located in the back of the restaurant, and it was pretty spacious and nicely decorated. Weirdly enough, the ceiling lights did go off at one point for about 30 seconds while we were eating, and then the air conditioner also started up, even though it was in the middle of winter... The service was great, everyone who came by our table was very friendly. It was also neat that they had digital menus on tablets (speaking of which, the menu is pretty extensive). We ordered a Chana Masala curry which came with rice, a Paneer Masala dosa, and Chaat Samosa. The Chaat Samosa was my favorite dish. I do wish the dosa had been hotter when it arrived, and the Chana Masala was so-so. I would come back to try other things including the chai!

    Misal with Farsan and Onion

Ordered Misal Pav, good in taste and spicy as expected. Farsan and Onion were too little for the curry quantity. Bread was crisp, and packing was good.

Came here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure how an Indian restaurant could be vegan and vegetarian based, but there was a lot of options. I got the tofu in the spicy chili sauce and it was delicious. The tofu was so well cooked and spiced that it didn't taste nor feel like tofu. I got the hottest spice available for the sauce but I did think it could have been hotter, but still delicious. Service was very quick and beyond friendly. The restaurant itself has such a nice back room for dining and is so clean and aesthetically pleasing. I definitely would come back!

Came here for a late dinner double date as we were craving Indian food, and it really hit the spot! They have a wide array of vegetarian and vegan Indian classics. The menu is presented on an iPad which was interesting. I tried the kadai paneer masala (which tasted like a chicken tikka masala with paneer instead of chicken). The flavors were incredible. I also tried some of my partner's Hakka noodles with vegetables (Manchurian), which was filling and had delish. The interior is clean and decor was aesthetically pleasing. Service was kind and they let us stay past the official closing time.

came here for dosa and found decent dosa. i probably just ordered the wrong thing wanting to try something new but wasn't all that impressed by the paneer bhurji dosa. the paneer was tasteless despite the green peppers and onions and missed any spice or spiciness i was looking forward to. the onion tomato garlic uttappam, on the other hand, slapped. the sambar, coconut chutney and tomato chutney on the side were great too. tried the salty lassi and also wasn't a huge fan service is nice and seating area is beautiful.

The hubby is craving Indian food tonight. Nice interior in the back dining room. The front looks like a counter and carry out spot. We started off with Gobi Manchurian, crispy, Mulligatawny soup, paper sada dosa, plain mung sada dosa, chickpea salad, yellow dal lentil, Chana masala, both spicy. $104.44. Service was so-so. Cleanup and food kept coming out. We did need a second table next to ours, since we have a lot of food coming. I noticed our waitress has had someone she's been speaking to the entire time we have been here. My husband wouldn't drink his water from his poured glass, because the waitress grabbed it from the top of the glass as she moved it around. :/ The going is definitely crispy, bit I have yet to get any cauliflower, it's all breading for the most part. Not what we were expecting at all. The pieces are all quite small, which could be why it's all breading only? It all tastes like crispy, burnt battered bits. These are the bits that we don't ever fight over at the end of our Gobi apps. The dal lentil is thick and creamy. It's decent. The Chana masala is pretty good, the flavor is quite intense here from the curries, good heat too. The paper dosa and the mung dosa came out well after all of the rest of our food was out, usually they would come out first and towards the beginning of our meal. The chick pea salad is good. Has a nice tart and fresh dressing to it. Nice garnish enhancement with the cilantro. The veggies are all nicely diced up too. The lentil is quite good, flavorful. The lentil is smooth and pureed, no chunks of lentils at all. It's a comforting soup. The paper dosa is nice and crunchy, it's huge. The mung bean is significantly darker and drier than the paper dosa. Glad we tried the mung bean, but not for me. The dal lentil, Gobi, Chana masala and dosa and mung bean dosa are quite a bit more expensive here than what we would normally pay at home. We usually pay maybe $7 for dosa. The other dishes are usually around $10 at most when we go to most Indian restaurants, anywhere else. Food was 3.5. Service was about a 2. I don't think we have ever spent over $100 for two is of at an Indian restaurant, ever.

Ahimsa is a warm & pleasant Indian restaurant. The moment you enter the dining hall, it's subtle yet thoughtful Indian contemporary decor will settle you down. Servers, very gracious & on point present an iPad menu with a delightful choice of Indian dishes from street food to North Indian curries, South Indian dosas and desserts- there's a dish for everyone. I tried their Sada Dosa & it was absolutely lip-smacking and delicious. Perfectly cooked and sambar spiced & portioned appropriately with two chutneys. Prices are more or less at par with NYC standards although some appetizers seem overpriced. Definitely gonna give Ahimsa another shot!

came on Friday night for dinner since i had a major craving for dosa. this spot absolutely hit the spot. we enter and theyre playing the most wholesome indian music - was such a cute vibe for a friday evening. we order a chaat for the table and it was spicy but delicious - definitely enough to share between 4 people since entrees are huge you dont need too much food. i ordered the cheese massla dosa and it was a looot of food i couldnt finish - but it came so warm and fresh with all the chutneys and potato - so delicious and the cheese was a nice extra touch to make it extra good def would come back because theyre food is good and service is incredibly nice!

Can the dishes be made low sodium?

I've never eaten Indian food other than tandoori chicken many years ago. What would you recommend I try as a first timer? Can't be spicy or fried.

Really depends on what you like, but I'd suggest saag paneer. It is spinach and cheese. Usually not spicy.… Read more

The quality and taste of the soy sauce was better than average. The salmon and tuna tacos were made exceptionally well, with super fresh raw salmon and raw tuna, and extra crispy taco shells. The nikkei acevichado sauce blends beautifully with the avocado, lime, pickled radish, and cilantro. This entire combination complemented the raw fish, and brought it to the next level. I had a glass of the drappier carte d'or from the sparkling wine list and it paired perfectly. The drink was light, very sparkly, and refreshing. It balanced the rich avocado and the fatty fish very well. The restaurant has a bar area and a main dining area. It has the ambiance of a standard upscale Midtown restaurant.

Cocktails are a little heavy on the sweetness, but the food is delicious and dessert is insane. Never had key lime pie like that in my life. Pro tip - would go duck breast over duck confit, although both were fantastic. The rack of lamb was also divine. Only criticism is that service could use some improvement, a few of our appetizers were incorrect & we felt rushed to leave at the end. But otherwise no notes, would highly recommend that anyone check this place out.

Passed hors d'oeuvres included beef carpaccio, ahi tuna tostadas, short rib gnocchi, and patatas bravas. For dinner, we were given a choice of three appetizers: roasted caufliower, lamb riblets, or brussel sprouts with lamb bacon; a choice of four entrees: duck confit risotto, ora king salmon with coconut curry, tournedos au poivre, or cote do boeuf. The three dessert options were apple streudel, affogato "al caffe", and key lime pie. I ordered brussel sprouts, duck, and key lime pie, and Eric R. got lamb riblets, ora king salmon, and apple streudel. I think he regretted offering me a lamb riblet because it was ridiculously tender and melted in my mouth. What is truly amazing is this is a meat restaurant, so the ice cream, risotto, gnocchi, and other dishes that we think of as dairy-based were non-dairy, and still completely amazing! It was definitely the fanciest kosher restaurant I have even been to in my life. The restaurant was so packed that we could not hear most of the speeches, which were given into a microphone attached to a small speaker near the bride's and groom's family's table. I do not fault the restaurant for its popularity though! The menu is really fun so I think it would be cool to return here for a special occasion. It is also located in midtown Manhattan which is very convenient for transportation. B'teavon!
