I ordered the Ceviche clasico as an appetizer that comes with Halibut (Lenguado) leche de tigre, aji limo, onions, cilantro, yam and peruvian corn. It was kinda pricey but worth it. I ordered the PESCADO A LO MACHO as the main dish which comes with Pan seared grouper fish filet, shrimp, calamari, octopus, spicy creamy sofrito and steamed rice. There are not many choices for Peruvian cuisine in the general South Bay area and I am glad I live so close to one as good as this. Parking is not too bad, especially since that indoor dining is an option again, you can park in the back of the restaurant, or on 4th street eastbound you would have more luck than the corridor on the west with all the other great restaurants. The interior is very homey feeling; scattered plants, a brick wall, a beautiful and delicious wine rack wall. Seriously, you must try a different glass / bottle of wine every time you come here. If you are a white wine drinker, especially, their sauvignon blanc selection in on par! I've been here a few times, trying multiple dishes. One thing that is very consistent is the portion size. Think you can finish a main dish yourself? Think again! Unless you can, then good for you, but I am always happy for leftovers. You cannot go wrong with any of the classic chaufa (fried rice dishes), the tallarine verde, lomo saltado, etc. The appetizers are all shareable and equally delicious. I highly recommend splitting everything if you are with a party just so you can try a little of each! And let me tell you, YOU NEED TO GO ASAP. Delicious food and great service. I really hope more people visit this place so they don't have to close. We got the lomito saltado and ají de gallina, per server's recommendation and they were both packed full of flavor, well seasoned and a good portion. The ají de gallina was hands down our favorite. The most comforting food I've had in a very long time! Especially on a chilly day, it just hits the spot like nothing else. This restaurant was amazing! This is my first time eating Peruvian food and our waitress was wonderful in explaining the foods, the influences and Peruvian culture/style. We ate the Arroz chaufa de pollo and Lomo saltado. We even had a delicious wine from Argentina called Begani. The vibe was fun and welcoming so it can be a casual dinner to an excellent date night (that's what my wife and I did). We also ordered the picarones and it was delicious. There is much to like about this place. The location is lovely, some parking spaces are available at the back lot, staff is friendly, and the menu is diverse. Came here with one of my closest friends to have a lunch. I ordered the steak a la pobre and my friend for the Aii de Gallina. First off on the food, the chips with the hauancaina sauce were delicious as a table starter. I thought overall, the presentation and quantity of the dishes, were adequate but not generous. Sadly, my steak was severally over cooked, asked for medium and got 90% well done. I will say that I was offered a replacement steak, but with the restaurant closing before the dinner service, and my own time limits, couldn't accept the offer. The steak lacked seasoning and was tough, but the only saving grace that fish had were the ajis. Those were some of the best sauces I've tried at any Peruvian restaurant. Also, my egg was murdered as well, wanted a runny egg but nonetheless the dish overall was delicious. I must say that the aji was also the best I've had, all three on their own elevated the food. A few mishaps on the cookies of the dishes but still great potential here. So I will probably want to come back and hope to have an even better experience. read more

I dined here last night (12/11/21) I ordered the Arrocito Norteno, Ceviche Mercado, Jalea, Empandas, and Sweet potato fries. I. Arrocito Norteno (4/5) was basically rice and seafood. What I liked about this dish is that it came with a hearty portion of proteins: octopus, shrimp, and scallops. Atop of the rice was some sort of yellow sauce. The dish was well seasoned; however, I found myself craving some sort of heat, which the sauce did not provide. II. Ceviche Mercado - (4/5) Loaded with protein: sea bass, octopus, shrimp. I found it interesting that the dish was not served with any form of chips, but rather thick yucca fries. The yucca made it very filling. Although, it did not allow for us to pick up the fish & sauce as a chip would have. I brought home the majority of the ceviche and enjoyed it with some chips the next day. The ceviche also included a few rings of fried calamari, which was odd. It was rendered soggy due to the fact that the dish was swimming in liquid. Would have worked better in a raw preparation. III. Jalea - (2/5) Personally, I wouldn't order this one again. Jalea is essentially a platter of fried seafood: shrimp, octopus, calamari, fish, and yucca. The seafood itself didn't have much flavor. It was bland and tasteless.The salsa criolla wasn't able to remedy the situation. Skip this one. IV. Empanadas - (3/5) Empanadas were fair. I ordered both the chicken + carne. On a slow Tuesday night we had no trouble parking in the lot in the back (there is street parking as well) and being welcomed to a table immediately. You can bring your dog on the patio too! The ambiance is nice for a date night or a meal with friends. The menu consists of ceviches ($10 on Tuesdays), causas (mashed potato terrine), anticuchos (meat skewers), and various entrees. The Ceviche Moderno was bright, packed with sea bass, onions, cilantro, Leche de Tigre and ají amarillo sauce. The Tacu Tacu was what I would call a Peruvian take on fried rice: rice and Peruvian beans that are mixed and pan-fried, then topped with flavorful aoli. My friend ordered this as her main but I would say it's better split amongst a few people because it's heavy. The Pescado a Lo Macho was one of the best dishes I've had recently. Grilled grouper, shrimp, calamari and octopus are sautéed up with a spicy sofrito alongside steamed rice. The spicy sofrito was banging with flavor and the seafood was plentiful. To begin, both carne & pollo empanadas were impeccably done with their crispy, light shells and flavorful fillings. Easily the best ceviche we've had yet. Delving into the heartier dishes, we enjoyed the char on the anticucho de corazon (beef heart) and seriously tender beef tenderloin in the lomo saltado. Finally, the tallarines a la huancaina (creamy aji amarillo pasta) was a first for us and certainly won't be our last! So creamy and flavorful, definitely more robust than any alfredo. Peruvian is a cuisine I don't get to have very often and don't know much about so when I saw this was one of the best restaurants in Long Beach, I had to give it a try. Amazing! My only regret is being here by myself because I would have liked to order and try way more dishes. I was also a little under the weather and opted out of trying any cocktails or wines. Sadness because I love me a Pisco Sour. Everything I ordered was bursting with flavor, seasoned to perfection. The heart (one of my favorite cuts of beef) was so tender. I was worried when I first saw it because the pieces are huge but they did this cut justice. The modern ceviche was also a standout. Bright, crisp, acidic and fresh. Many of the patrons here were Peruvian, which definitely made me feel like it was probably pretty authentic. Oh my goodness, I don't know where to start. I really like Peruvian food and I have been to several Peruvian restaurants in Los Angeles area, Glendale, and Hawthorne. To make it really short, I did not like the food here. At all. This restaurant is not authentic Peruvian, is more of an experiment or mixture of modern American and Peruvian food mixed together. The spices, the taste and texture of what I had I did not like at all. I tried the Steak lomo salteado and the Aji De Gallina. The (Peruvian) flavor was simply lacking. The steak was good, but it was without Peruvian ingredients. Even visually you can tell there are missing ingredients and the style of the cooking preparation. Then there was the Aji De Gallina. Man. I don't know what they add to this dish, but every time after dipping my fork and lifting it, there is this really weird looking stuff that looks like really thin hair hanging down, kind of like cheese, and it might be cheese I have no idea, but it does not look attractive or appetizing. And then there is the taste and ingredients issue. This dish simply does not taste like authentic Peruvian food and the sauce of the Aji De Gallina is way too thick. I mean, why fix what's not broken? Peruvian food is Peruvian food and that's what we want to eat when we think about it. Nothing more nothing less. I mean, I do like to try different things and even "weird" food, but the taste, texture and the way they prepare these dishes is just not very good. The classic and delicious spicy green sauce was also missing. They just simply don't make it. They do but is very different. Again, kind of "modernized" and something is very different about it, but not in a great way. And last, I also had the fried bananas. The bananas were okay, I've had better, but they were okay, the problem is that really weird semi sweet sauce they serve it with. I think they add mustard to it. I did (not) like that at all. The best and simplest thing they can and should do to this, is get rid of that weird tasting sauce and just serve it with condensed milk. Problem solved. So sorry guys but I don't think I will be going back to this restaurant any time soon because their prices are very high yet the food is not that good. Turned out it was completely worth it. This place was a 6 out of 5 for me. 6/5. Reasons are as follows: 2/2 - Parking and Accessibility - There is ample free parking either on the streets nearby or in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Further, there are two entrances in the front, one with a semi ramp and a door way. It is also pet friendly and the owner provided us with a pet bowl to provide water for my friend's dog. 1/1 - Pricing and Portions - Between myself and my two other friends we went all out. Two dishes each and a drink. It was kind of pricey but will be understandable in a bit. 1.5/1 - Flavor - Each dish was excellent even down to the drinks. I went with a traditional chicha morada, a purple corn drink. The flavor was sweet with a little sour and perfect for a hot day. As for the meals I chose it was the anticucho de corazon and the causa trio. The remarkable thing with each of them was that each ingredient for the dishes was prominent and complimented the other. A verifiable flavor explosion, so whole the portion sizes aren't the biggest. The flavor and quality of the ingredients provided a fulfilling feeling. 1.5/1 - Service - The Owner is proud to share the heritage of the food and quick to make an effort to remember you. I had the steak a la pobre which was perfectly cooked and paired with white rice, fried egg, potatoes and sweet fried bananas (the bananas give a nice different kick, which is a welcome surprise to your taste buds).
