    Sangria

Stopped in with a few friends for lunch. It was mostly empty about an hour or so before closing on a Monday. Cozy, quiet and good customer service. Serving all the traditional Peruvian dishes. We started with a couple of pitchers of sangria, very tasty and refreshing. Next on the menu were the empanadas; beef, corn and cheese and chicken, very good. Lastly, the lomo saltado and artoz con marisco. Filling and flavorful.

I've heard many good things about Aji, and I was glad to finally try them! They were pretty empty for Sunday lunch (which I don't mind at all!), so service was quick and kind. We tried their lomito saltado and arrocito norteno. They didn't provide any aji sauce for the lomito (surprising) but were quick to bring some when we requested it. The beef was very tender! So although definitely more expensive than more casual Peruvian spots, we could taste the quality. I also loved the arrocito norteno, as I love seafood paella, and this was basically that. The scallops and octopus were so good! This place is a bit more luxe than the other Peruvian places I've tried before, which is reflected in their price. Although we were there in the day, I could imagine this place being a cute date spot at night. Glad to try this main stay in Long Beach and would recommend for a bit more upscale meal (although no pressure to dress nice at all, just seems like that vibe).

My second time here and it was as great as the first experience almost a year ago. It happened to be last Friday on Retro Row so it brought everyone out tonight. We arrived in the nick of time and got a table right on the patio which was perfect for people watching. Everyone walking up and down for a night of fun, shopping and enjoying the street vendors. It was pretty busy already inside when we arrived but there was an empty table on the patio which we were glad to have. Service was great, same as the last visit. The menu, I believe it's still the same. Amazing dishes that were had and can't wait to have again. We started off with their house sangria and a bottle beer. Sangria was quite tasty but there wasn't any fruit added to it besides a slice of orange as an adornment. Still tasty. Beer was one of the Peruvian beer on hand. Both drink was tasty and very refreshing. They have quite an array of drinks, more on the wine and bubble than the beers which are bottled. For food, a nice selections on starters and mains. Started off with their ceviche which they had a few options to choose from. It was between their classic or the tuna ceviche which is basically something similar to poke. And of course their fried banana (plantain) served with a honey paprika aioli. Plus their chips with cheese sauce was also brought out. Entrees, the chicken linguine and seafood curry. Both delicious. Breakdown for the dishes. -Ceviche Clasico- halibut, leche de tigre, aji limon, onion, cilantro , yams and Peruvian corn. If you like a classic ceviche, this is the one. That perfect fish bite with the sour juice and paired with sweet yams and corn. It was fantastic. Nice big chunks of the halibut. -Fried Bananas (plantain) served with honey paprika aioli. I love plantains but didn't remember the honey dip the last time we were here. It's sweet enough already but does work well with the honey. It's a side dish. -Tallarin Saltado De Pollo (chicken pasta)- chicken saltado with linguine pastas, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and soy sauce. The pairing with soy was great. Not something I would normally think pasta sauce would be but it worked with everything all tossed together. The nice big chunks of tomatoes and big chunks of chicken, it was delicious and pretty hefty in portion. Last time we had the steak version which I highly recommend. -Pescado A La Macho- pan seared grouper fish filet, shrimp, calamari, octopus, spicy creamy sofrito and steamed rice. Another favorite dish that was had both this and last visit. The rich creamy curry and the nice chunks of fishes worked so well together. Everything was perfectly flavorful and delicious with the rice. A must get. The food was excellent. Same as I remembered. The flavors were all unique in its own way. Each and every dish was excellent even the chips with the cheese sauce that was brought out. Nicely thin and a nice crunch to it. Service was amazing as well. It did pick up big time the whole time we were there.

This time we ordered takeout, as finding parking on a Friday evening can be a pain. We ordered the Chicken Empanada and Chaufa with chicken. Both the dishes were outstanding. Empanada were fried not baked, but tasted so good. The accompanying chimichurri was fresh and delicious. The Chaufa was excellent. I could eat it everyday. My must go Peruvian restaurant. Unfortunately, the prices have gone up quite a bit, but I understand how bad the inflation is. Definitely check it out.

First of all, Rosita is great! She made my first experience here so nice! Rosita is so welcoming & sweet! I came alone so I ordered only Classic ceviche 10/10 Soooo good. Rosita told me in Peru you drink the "tiger's milk" and to not waste it. So I listened of course! Roasted caesar salad 8/10 I usually like an extremely dressed salad but roasted salad sounded interesting and it was good! They give you complimentary chips that tasted like a nice warm lays potato ship with queso haha it was really tasty. Definitely looking forward to coming back with friends so I can try more dishes

Food is delicious! Portion size is great. We would've liked to stay longer to enjoy some wine but it was very hot and humid. They have ac but they had the sliding doors open to the street. Ambiance is set for a relaxing evening with good food and wine.

Found this spot of yelp and decided to stop by for a bite to eat! The food was delicious. We got the ceviche nikkei that was so flavorful and the tallarines verdes! Very clean and well kept. Only docking a star because the service was a bit slow and unfortunately had a waitress who after calling her multiple times, would look at us and continue her conversation with other customers. Being busy is one thing, ignoring customers is another :-( Aside from that, the other waitresses were kind.

The food is always consistent here. The cooks do an amazing job of this, ceviche always flavorful, lomo Saltado perfectly salted. The service is excellent and there is one server who always recognizes us which is always nice gesture. Ambiance is perfectly decorated with a dark but fresh feel with their booming plants. Brings a fresh vibe at the entrance. Pictured: Tallarin Verde with grilled chicken Beef Lomo Saltado Ceviche Classico

I ordered for pick up here and drove to the location fyi i think they gave parking in the back but i parked on the street. The place inside looks very charming. I read over the menu while i waited for my food i think they have some great dine in happy hour specials. For my pick up experience service was fast. I did have to order the green sauce and i did feel like they should automatically include that because what if i forgot. I love the green sauce. I ordered the limo saltado i will tell you that i felt like it was a bit overpriced for Peruvian food in my opinion but it was pretty good to be honest. The menu said the fries were handcut i thought that was nice. I look forward to a sit down experience next. I look forward to trying out other dishes.

    The beet salad was yummy.

Didn't add more pics because my family was hungry and ate all of it! We had the chauffa marisco plate, lomo saltado, and plantains. For app we ordered the empanada. Would highly recommend. Also music was great, couldn't stop dancing in my chair lol.

Stopped here on my way to another spot. Saw the menu in passing and we changed our plans on the spot. Luckily there was 10 minutes left for happy hour, so I ordered several plates from the special menu. Also empanadas and a couple other items. Too many to remember/name. What's important though is that it was all delicious. There wasn't a single item that was a miss.

At the suggestion of a friend we decided to try out Aji Peruvian Cuisine. We managed to snag one of the few parking spots behind the restaurant, but otherwise street parking is your best bet. Walking in, the vaulted ceilings and ornate decorations made us realize that this was a much more upscale Peruvian restaurant than we had anticipated. The prices definitely reflected this as well, though portions were generous and presentation was beautiful. The homemade potato chips with homemade aioli was also a nice complimentary starter, though the chips were a bit too salty for me. The food was very tasty. We ordered tallarines en huancaína con apanado, ceviche clásico, and jalea. The chica morada was a bit sweet (we prefer it more tart) and I was missing the crunchy dried corn in the ceviche. We finished with the flan which had orange zest incorporated into the custard, which elevated this dish. What stood out the most was the incredibly kind service, with presumably one of the chef/owners coming out to converse with all of the diners. Our waitress was also warm and friendly. Overall, a solid dining experience for sure!

I'm soo sad that I only took one picture. Their sangria is amazing. Their lomito saltado is so perfect! My husband enjoyed their steak à la pobre. We enjoyed the golden beet salad. I highly recommend this place.

Ask the Community - Aji Peruvian Cuisine

What is the attire for this restaurant? Is it classy? Is it up scale?

Like most of SoCal, it's a mix. This is sit-down dining, nice but not "fancy." Some people are very casual (jeans and T); some are more dressed up for dates or girls' night out.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / June 8, 2023

Are you open for lunch on weekdays?

Hello Maggie: We open everyday at 5 pm. Lunch only on Sundays at 12:30 pm-3 pm and 5-8:30 pm. Thank you

    Do you take reservations?

    Yes, they do!

    Is there outdoor seating still?

Yes. There are a few tables right out front.

    Is there a dress code?

    Casual

Where is the parking for the restaurant , handicap parking to be exact?

I believe there's parking spaces right behind the restaurant, handicap as well.

Do they have aji verde sauce?

We have huacatay, rocoto and Ají Amarillo sauces

    Is it vegetarian friendly?

Yes - they have a few vegetarian options

    Do they have lunch specials?

Not at this location, but right next door. They have Peruvian sandwiches during the lunch hours.

This restaurant primarly serves Columbian food, which is a Columbian restaurant 90% of the time. 1 to 2 days filipino dinner within the week and the rest of the days is Columbian. From the outside, this place looks plain but from the inside the place was cozy, vibrant and comfortable. The ambiance of modern fusion. Nice bar, clean restrooms and great seating with great Feng shui energy. Ordered adult beverages. Beer , wine, calimansi with added vodka. From the Get go, we ordered chicken wings, pork, fish, coconut rice, beef plate and eggplant dish. Everything was very tasty! All was delicous. No complaints on the food. Presentation and prepared dishes were outstanding! Now comes the Pros and Cons with honest criticism. Pros: 1) Food and drinks are outstanding, no one can object nor disagree to that. Clean restrooms and Clean dining area. Restaurant staff is very friendly and professional. 2) Sip and Paint activities being offered. I find that pretty cool. Cons: 1) Parking is very tight, you snooze you lose. Must get there early to find side parking. If not, you have to settle for street parking on a very busy street. Again, all is pending on the time you come to dine. 2) Service is very slow, even though it was not that busy being a Tuesday. We were seated at 6pm did not start our food order until 6:20sh. By the time everything was served and eaten, we finished at 840pm. There was too much lag time on the dishes being served. Entrees were coming out every 15-20mins. Even though good conversations was taking place, The wait time in-between was noticed for food and drink delivery. Had the entire group discussing why the food that was ordered was taking so long to receive? If you are having filipino night, you must make sure the rice is served first or have it come out with the main dish. Rice should not be served after the main entrees have already been eaten. 3) Dishes are expensive and quantity does not match up to the price value of the meals. $46 for a meat dish that was small. If you are a big eater, you might be dissapointed on the quantity being served. RICE Bowls are very small for $6. Overall, I would definitely come back. Food was outstanding! Customer Interaction is great. If you dont mind the slow service and enjoy the conversation instead, this place is for you! Definitely made for couples on a first date. I would say meals are fancy and yummy, since it is above average pricing, in terms of fancy to a point of pricing. The service did not live up to the expectation. But we are yet to try the Columbian food here! Looking forward to our next visit.!

Several tables were literally fanning themselves with menus. Our waitress even mentioned it to the manager, but nothing really changed. That alone made the experience uncomfortable. The bigger issue for me was value. I understand tapas are small plates, but for the prices, the quality and portions should be much better. The calamari tasted fine, but there were a lot of red bell peppers and mostly crumbs at the bottom. The mixed olives came in a very small dish with mostly tiny olives with pits, broken pieces, and maybe three decent-sized olives. The garlic shrimp was the standout and was actually very good. The ham and cheese croquetas were four tiny little balls, about the size of mini store-bought frozen meatballs, served with a little sweet tomato sauce underneath. Not terrible, just extremely small and not memorable. Drinks were mixed. I enjoyed the wine flight trio. My mom had the classic mojito, and my sister wasn't impressed with the mezcal Negroni. The biggest disappointment was dessert. We ordered the churros with chocolate sauce. I've lived in Spain and Spanish cuisine is one of my specialties, so I know what churros con chocolate should be. These were pale yet somehow overcooked, and the sauce was very light brown, extremely hot, and tasted more like butter, cream and sugar than chocolate. To her credit, a second waitress did try to help since our original waitress event to break and was very kind. Since my family had already eaten some of the churros and didn't know any better, she explained she couldn't fully remove the dessert, but she gave me a $9 discount using her employee discount. I didn't ask for a discount, rather to inform the kitchen. I appreciated that gesture, so thank you to her for making an effort. Service overall was okay, but our water wasn't consistently replenished and we eventually had to ask for ice water, especially frustrating considering how hot it was inside. Our bill came out to about $156 for three drinks, bread with tomato, calamari, olives, garlic shrimp, croquetas and churros. For that price, the quality, portions, service and overall experience just didn't match. Nice ambiance and good garlic shrimp, but the menu needs some serious tightening up. Three stars. There's potential here, but right now it feels overpriced for what you actually get.

They seated us, handed us... one menu for the table, and left us to contemplate our life choices. About 30 minutes later after we started wondering if our server had transferred to another restaurant, I had to track down a manager just to get someone to greet us. To his credit, he apologized and comped our first round of drinks and an appetizer, which was appreciated. Unfortunately that was the only redeemable detail of this whole experience. . The menu was surprisingly limited and they were already out of the ceviche. The ocean view? Gorgeous. The service? More elusive than Ted Cruz during state emergencies. Our cocktails were around $20 each and served in plastic cups. I kept waiting for someone to tell me the real glasses were coming. They weren't. The appetizers finally arrived, and then... silence. Another 30 minutes passed and no one had checked on us. Once again, I had to flag someone down just to order another round because apparently making eye contact was the restaurant's version of table service. The food itself wasn't worth the wait. The nachos genuinely reminded me of Taco Bell not as an insult to Taco Bell, which at least knows exactly what it is. The calamari was actually decent, but it couldn't carry the rest of the meal. We were on our way to the Lil Wayne concert at the amphitheater afterward, so abandoning ship wasn't really an option. By the time we finished even after they comped an appetizer and our first round, two more appetizers and three cocktails still came to $127. We asked them to validate our parking. They took the ticket, came back and told us it was validated. We pulled out of the parking lot.. and still got charged $45. The concert which unlike dinner was awesome. Long Beach has too many fantastic restaurants to spend your money here. I'd happily come back for the view. I'd just eat literally anywhere else first. We'll call it even since my bestie puked all over their parking lot upon our departure. Did ya'll know cutwaters were so lethal? TF. Ps.. party of 3 and they added a required 20% gratuity???
