I can now say I found a decent place for ramen here in Durango. Coming from California, I have been to many Greta ramen places and so I was overjoyed to hear and come try Akami. I had tried other places that offer ramen around but this one by far satisfied my cravings and was pretty good. It's a nice small place and I see they get many orders. Had veggie ramen and a poke bowl and both were just average at best. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't eat it, but I wouldn't go back either. The ramen was just warm, not hot, and the noodles were a bit firm. The rice in the poke bowl was much less sticky that typical sushi rice. I've had much better elsewhere. Their patio (outdoor seating) is adjacent to the Albertsons parking lot, kind of off-putting when you first sit down but the food is so incredibly good the parking lot becomes a nonissue. There are a few tables inside if you don't want to be outside but it seemed stuffy after the warm day and thunderstorms, so we headed outside in the slightly chilly evening air. I ordered the Poke-San but had to modify it a bit due to a crab allergy. The young man who took my order was very nice, making an extra note about my allergy. The poke bowl was served with a delightful miso soup. Nice touch. The bowl was enough for my dinner and leftovers for breakfast! Very limited drink selection so just opted for water, rather than a sweet sugary choice. Great food, good service, I will go again next time I'm in Durango...or maybe again before I leave. read more

Really good little Japanese spot. You order at a counter and then we received food shortly after. We couldn't decide between ramen or sushi so we got both and it was so much food! All delicious though! I loved the fresh fish in the sushi and the flavorful ramen broth. Pork belly was just average but otherwise everything was great. I love the food here. It's fresh, fast, filling and great on a cold day. The sushi rolls are priced well so I always get one and sometimes another to go. This place was a delightfully unexpected eatery to find while passing through on our way to Pagosa Springs. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable and the food is delicious. I'm from out of town & stumbled on this place as I was parking at Albertsons on my way home from the lake on a Tuesday night (10/18/22). Full disclosure, I literally only eat Ramen maybe 1x a decade. Not a big Ramen lover, but I'd gotten cold at the lake & thought what's better than soup. So... I gave it a shot. The woman at the counter suggested the Tonkatsu Ramen. I ordered it spicy. She said they make both the broth for that ramen & the chili sauce in house. I also ordered the Brussel Sprouts Chips. Both were amaaazing!! I got my food to-go. I opened the Brussels to try them when I got home and literally stood trance-like shoveling them into my mouth directly from the to-go container. They never made it to a plate. I somehow snapped out of the trance & cut myself off. The Ramen. Wow. Really so delicious. Fresh ingredients and great flavor. Everything was cooked perfectly. Also, both were huge servings. Probably could feed 2-3 ppl. I can't say enough good things. 10/10 recommend! read more

A nice raw seafood surprise in the middle of the Rockies. We did take out on our first try, but when we opened it at home we found that the cook messed up and smothered one of the orders with fried onions (when we explicitly asked for none). Oof! But the manager Evelyn apologized and made it right. Our second dine-in experience was spot on. The ingredients are really fresh, portions are good, and the poke is some of the best we've had! I had ramen here a few months ago and it was awesome. Tonight I ordered the same thing, pork broth ramen, extra veggies. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. We came in as a large group of about 20+ people. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick and friendly service. The food came out a lot faster than expected too. It was nice to pay inside and then wait at the table with your little number, since we had about 6 separate orders. This was a amazing deal for the price and tasted great! I then got a specialty roll for twice the price and it was smaller and not as tasty, hence only the 4 stars. We have been eating Akami food since they were in a food truck. It was one of our favorite places to eat in Durango and now (sad to say!) I don't think we'll be back. I was craving a good bowl of ramen, so we went back to Akami after a bit of a hiatus. We were first to order for the evening hours, and Cris, who took our order (name on the receipt, fairly sure that's her name), was so incredibly unpleasant to deal with I almost stopped the order and walked out. You know when someone starts taking your order, then cuts you off mid-sentence to bark out "for here or to go"...gets the answer, then responds in the most indifferent way that clearly shows what a massive inconvenience you are to them? Yeah...that's what we got for the entire order. "We don't have that". "Anything else." "Anything else". "Anything else". While twisting her mouth the whole time and avoiding eye contact. I get it...hard to find people to work, but I have always thought that everyone at Akami was kind and responsive to questions or needs in the past. Not this time. So disappointing. I watched her behave like this to everyone that ordered after us. Even sipping on a drink while avoiding eye contact with the person ordering. Then I watched her bag up our order in double knots and wander back to her drink to sip away and not alert us it was ready. Went up to retrieve the bags and left. We got the food home, then found that the raw poke bowl was bagged with the hot ramen. Hot and cold in both bags we received. Not safe people! Stop doing that! I usually take the bags apart to make sure that hasn't happened, and should have this time but with the double knots it was hard to get into them. The food wasn't even as good as we remembered. All in all...too expensive to deal with being made to feel like you're causing hardship by patronizing an establishment. read more
