The best spicy lamb gyro I have ever had. I go back every time I am back in Savannah. They are as great as ever!

Savannah has plenty of hoity-toity places, but this is a small, spartan shop on the edge of town which offers the real deal for Middle Eastern cuisine. They were also open on Christmas. Ordering a falafel wrap got me a nice mix of flavors and textures with creamy sauce and some fresh vegetables, as well as a small helping of spiced fries. That's about what you can expect from this place, but it's a niche worth filling in this town and I was happy to have found it.

This is exactly my kind of place! It looks like a cozy corner store and the service is quick. For $12 you can get a wrap, fries, and canned soda. Great value and great food. I was pretty wowed by how well-spiced the lamb was on the gyro - pretty much all lamb is good to me, but this was special. The sauce was so good that I could've even eaten it without the lamb, the bites with just lettuce and sauce were that good. The fries were solid too. The baba ganoush had a great smoky flavor. It's simple, this is a great find!

One of the best falafel gyro I've had in my travels /stay in the south in a long time. Well seasoned and delicious. The fries were good too. Nice quiet place with friendly customer service.

From the outside Al Salaam might not look like much, but let me tell you there is SOO much more than what meets the eyes. Al salaam so far is the best gyro I've had in Savannah!! The flatbread is so moist and good. The lamb itself is so tender and seasoned amazingly! The tzatziki sauce is also very good. The only problem I have with Al Salaam is its lay out, it's a very small space so if you're going during a lunch rush you might have to wait for a little while and it gets kinda packed, besides that it's amazing!! I know I didn't really leave much in this review but the gyro honestly speaks for itself! Go try it out for yourself, and be sure to thank me later. You're welcome!

My hometown of Montreal has an abundance of Lebanese and middle eastern restaurants. Any type of restaurant for that matter. One of the things I definitely miss about Montreal is the food! When I moved to Savannah, I was browsing Yelp, compiling my hit list and came across Al Salaam Deli (ASD) and bookmarked it because It seemed to be one of the very few in its category. It was my usual, weekly date with my Brunch Squad and I suggested ASD. It is located in a neighborhood and from the outside, you will see a red awning, with the windows dressed in simple signs that say "Gyro", "Hummus" and "Deli" and the restaurant name. It almost looks like an old school convenience store. What lies behind those doors is such a charming little place. The kind that makes my heart sing and makes me so happy to have found it! Parking: Street parking. What I ate/drank - I shared the following with my Little One: Babaganoush - Oh my! It was so smooth and tasty. It is a generous portion, served in a clear, plastic to-go container and the way they place it in there is just so pretty (refer to pic)! There is a dollop of chili (?) in the center, drizzled with olive oil that collects in the pockets of the babaganoush that form in the pattern. Served with sections of pita bread, this was a great starter to our meal. Chicken Gyro Combo - Combo just means with fries. The Gyro contained generous pieces of scrumptious, marinated cubes of chicken, with shredded iceberg lettuce and a garlic sauce. It was so big, the two ends of the pita barely touched. It comes wrapped in foil to help you keep it together. The fries were the generic, average-sized fries, but were cooked nice and crisp with the right balance of cooked potato in the inside. Baklava - How could I resist? They sit right by the cash when ordering. Although, probably over the top, it completed the meal and experience. It was flaky, nutty, sweet, all the elements that a baklava should have. It was delicious! Vibe - Just a warning. It's small. If you have personal space issues, best you take it to go. When you walk in, you will probably take about a total of 10 steps inside. To the left is the open kitchen with the cash separating it from the dining area. The place has been packed tightly with supplies and things that all have its place. In front of you are shelves stocked with Middle Eastern products. To the right is the dining area and I mean, a total of 4 tables. Whole issues of National Geographic magazines are nailed to the wall, arranged neatly and serve as wallpaper. There are 2 benches lining the walls with velvet seat cushions in burgundy and contrasting yellow pillow cushions. Kid-Friendly - They don't have a Kids menu, but I shared all of the above items with my Little One. Service - The service is what makes this place extra special. The owners were just so nice and so welcoming. It really is like walking into a neighbor's house. We came in just before the lunch rush and placed our order at the cash. They told us to have a seat and called us when the order was ready. At the end, when I was paying for my order, I asked if they had coffee to purchase and explained that I always needed fuel for the drive back due to the usual food coma. He told me they didn't have any, but offered the coffee they normally make for themselves and even went out of his way to get a to-go cup and lid. He even made my coffee with milk and sugar and made sure I liked it and he didn't even charge me for it after I insisted. He also made sure our leftover food was packed well for the road. They were both so thoughtful and sincere. Lucky people who live right by ASD! I would be making weekly visits if I were them, which I'm sure they probably do. Scrumptious food and awesome owners, the best combo!

We stopped in here while in the neighborhood and our food was ready in less than 10 minutes! We've been here several times before and the food is always delicious. The lamb gyro is a must!

    Yummy food!!! Delicious

Absolutely the best GYRO ever! The service was great and fast. Very down to earth people and told us what everything was. Also tried Halwa for the first time. Amazing and a great sweet !!!! Love this place. Definitely will be back and highly recommend ! Awesome hole in the wall place !

Used to love this place. Got it on door dash today and the lettuce is bagged lettuce (with the radishes and carrots) with RANCH not taziki on the gyro. No tomatoes or grilled onions. Wtf? Fries were soggy and had to go in air frier but were good after. But the ranch???

Delicious gyro, hands down one of the best I've ever had. Legit authentic. 4 stars for the cleanliness and organization of the store when you walk in. But that gyro tho, hands down 5 stars.

So I backed out, drove over a few spaces down and then pulled back into another parking spot. When my kids and I walked in, we were immediately greeted by a man as he was sweeping the store. That's one thing of the first things I noticed that it was really clean and organized. I asked him if the store was new and if it had just opened. I have been to Viet Huong quite a few times, as well as visiting the countless other businesses in that complex and this was the first time I had noticed Al Maddineh Halal Meat & Grocery Market (AMHMGM). No, he said, we have been open for about a year and a half now. Whoa! Really?! I have never noticed it before! - What you will find - I found the "Shan" brand that I have previously seen it at an Indian grocery store. It seems to be a variety of boxed spice mixes for various dishes like Kofta and Vegetable Masala. I actually bought a couple of them at the Indian grocery store upon that owners recommendation on Tandoori chicken, but I have yet to try them. Anyway, they have quite a variety of flavors of that brand. They also have bulk spices, dried pastas, canned goods and pita breads. They have a milk section as well as a refrigerated section where I found Labna!!!! It's probiotic and it's so good with really any fruit. I had some figs so I scooped out some labna and drizzled maple syrup because (a) Canadian side and (b) I didn't have honey. I am so glad I found this gem here! And of course the Halal Meat. There was a customer there at the time of our visit and the butcher was working away at cutting it the way she requested. The meat looked fresh and I've included the price list (see pics). They don't have any meat displayed in glass fridge cases, so I am assuming they butcher the meat upon request? There is also a small section of prayer mats and scarves there as well. I love discovering ethnic grocery stores and finding cool new food items to try. I also love seeing the different packaging of the same products we get here! Note to self for future - try some of the cheeses.

Found this lil gem as we were out at the outlet Mall. Wow guys!!…read more I Love kabab but this is the Best place for Kebab I've found so far! The girls inside greet you as you walk in and they are never without their gorgeous smiles! This place feels like one big family dinner experience! All of the girls take very good care of you. You start out with an appetizer plate of sorts; really just an accompaniment to the Hot lil bread pillows of Yum (more on these in a bit!). A corn slaw served alongside a tangy delish yogurt and some sliced Green olives. Super yum! Now the PITA? Puffy little pillows of HEAVEN. The girls put them thru the salamander oven to toast up just before bringing them to the table. so when they set them in front of you? They are Piping Hot and Toasty, with a touch of sweet.... DELICIOUSNESS!!! We were going to order the kabab Mixed platter in order to try a variety of kabab; but our sweet server told us about a better way to go! Upon her recommendation we got two of the kabab plates, complete with salad and pilaf - AND we were still able to sample multiple kabab! I got the shrimp and lamb while the hubs got the beef and lamb. Complete the plate with a moist lightly flavored pilaf and the Jerusalem Salad and I'm Tellin you!! Drool Worthy!!! The kebab are cooked perfectly? With a lil pink onboard; and the flavor? Spiced PERFECTLY! Lamb with Zero gaminess and ALLLLL the YUM!! But I decided to go with the positive reviews I had seen--and I'm really glad I did. The cashier was incredibly kind and attentive, which made a great first impression. I ordered the mixed platter for one and swapped the lamb kofta for chicken kofta. Everything was delicious--flavorful, well-cooked, and satisfying. The chicken, steak, and kofta were all done really well. I especially loved that they give extra whipped garlic (because honestly, you can never have enough), and the bread... SO good. Personal preference but we still loved it and we could taste the feta, so it wasn't a deal breaker. My husband has the lamb. He loved it. It wasn't a plate full of rice, which he also appreciated. The pricing was reasonable and the lamb was cooked perfect. I had the Falafal sandwich. I would have preferred tahini vs tzatziki but it was tasty. The Falafal was a little mushy for my palate but still good. They came with steak fries - my favorite kind of fry! We ended with the baklava. Every baklava we have ever had is different and we LOVED it. I was so full and was only going to have 1 bite, but that wasn't my story. Our server was amazing. She was friendly and helpful. She asked where we were from and recommended a few restaurants in South Florida for us to try. The restaurant can be fancy or casual - your choice. The food in itself had me wishing that I had more time to try more entrees on the menu. I had lived in Savannah for over three years and had neglected to visit them. I took the Greek lemon chicken home and Hannah packed me a little dessert to enjoy. I had mentioned my apartment was packed and she packed me extra silverware and napkins to go. She put the most level of CARE into my visit and I'm so grateful she was my waitress. Final Verdict: I will be stopping by whenever I'm in the area again. This has to be one of the best Greek restaurants, if not the best I've tried in my life.

The biggest issue for us was that we have gluten sensitivities, and this place made it nearly impossible to eat what we ordered. I specifically ordered a shrimp kabob plate with basmati rice and salad. Instead, I was given a shrimp wrap in pita (which I can't eat), and when I questioned it, the staff insisted I was wrong rather than trying to fix it. It got worse when I looked at the rice--it had noodles mixed into it, which again made it not gluten-free and completely inedible for me. So after spending $22, I was left with basically shrimp and lettuce. My friend also had an issue--her pita came with onions even though that wasn't stated on the menu and wasn't supposed to be included. On top of all that, the restaurant itself was uncomfortably hot, which just added to the overall poor experience. Between the incorrect orders, lack of transparency about ingredients, and dismissive response from staff, I won't be coming back. If you have dietary restrictions, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere that takes them more seriously. The food that was edible was yummy though, just not worth the hassle.
