Alaska Airlines is middle of the road in my book. The check in process is always easy enough. Never have to wait very long, but I do feel it is ridiculous that you get charged for your first bag. It just turns into a challenge of how can you game the system. The number of people with carry on luggage has increased substantially. Then it's a given that the airline will make an announcement the flight is full and they will check in your carry on free of charge. On my most recent trip: Family of 4, week vacation. Crammed everything into 2 large suitcases, as paying $100 one way is ridiculous, and one small rolling carry on. On the way home they asked if they could check the rolling carry on free of charge. Nice gesture, but also made me think: we'll next time we will check one large bag and bring 2 carry on. Thus why everyone takes carry on only and banks it will end up getting checked. They now offer charging stations at your seat, which is nice as everyone has probably experienced your laptop, iPad or phone dying mid flight. No pillows, no blankets, pretzels instead of peanuts, meals are not included unless you are in first class. They offer tablets with games, movies, etc for $10. Flight attendants are always friendly, however it is interesting to see how much stricter they get with following procedures when they have trainees on board. Seating is always tight and uncomfortable, but that is a given pretty much anywhere unless you are in first class. All in all...average airline experience. read more

Usually I do like to fly Alaska Airlines when I go to Seattle. However, I was not that impressed with Alaska Airlines flying from Maui to LAX. First of all, we reserved our seats like 6 months in advance. We booked 2 aisle seats and we're reassured by an Alaska agent that our two aisle seats were reserved. Come to find out on the day of our trip, we had been reseated to a middle seat and a window seat. It was awful. I felt unhappy with Alaska since we had reserved these seats 6 months in advance. Also, it was a very small plane and kind of squishy. And the service was so-so. I remember Alaska Airlines service to Seattle seemed so much better. read more

I received an email that the flight was to be delayed 2 hours and checked in at 12 instead of 10. Teller was nice and gave me and my friend a voucher for free food, which we didn't use. On the flight I got free drinks all day. Apparently the plane that was scheduled to be used was not supposed to have been due to mechanical issues. I was pretty stoked. To top it off on one of the stops I was automatically upgraded to first class, which was a first, and was able to drink my gin and tonics in glass instead of plastic. I also received a voucher for discount on my next ticket. I think AKAir must be stepping up their game due to competition, but I'll take it. read more

One star was only because I couldn't give them zero. We got the Alaskan air Miles card to years ago. Our daughter is getting married this summer and we all book seats that were refundable and very expensive $1400 for two seats in business and one was a $99 companion fare ridiculous. So we were had been told that we couldn't upgrade and use our air miles for first class anymore due to their new regulations so when we booked we selected refundable tickets as they were seven of us and we all have air mile accounts and The Alaskan Visa card. We did that because we used to travel Hawaiian and a lot of times they have sales that discount down and they're always so polite and courteous and give such great customer service we never want to rule them out. So we saw that Hawaiian's flight was going to get in at 10:30 in the morning rather than pur Alaska flight at 230 in the afternoon. So we called about getting a refund and we were told that when we selected our tickets we selected upgradable that was not true. We have no way to proving it because it's all through their website and they have been very rude disrespectful lacking empathy consideration , they totally have been arrogant very poor customer service. We will be looking at probably canceling our Alaskan Visa cards and never choosing Alaskan again which is sad since we were so excited about what used to be good benefits that have now changed due to their new rules and regulations I guess they also decided to change and give poor customer service as well as all their new fees. We have Called with a few different questions to talk to several different customer service agents and I must say none of them were very polite considerate or offering to customer service and wanted to help someone it was like we are putting them out it's sad but I guess they don't want a good quality customer service anymore so I do not recommend Alaskan Airlines if you want a good experience. read more

We flew first class with Alaska to Honolulu for the first time instead of Hawaiian airlines first class. It was if we were sitting in upgraded coach seating. The food was lousy and we had no choice because they ran out of the entree on our last row, row number 3. The passenger behind me was kicking my seat. Our seats barely reclined and we're not very comfortable to begin with. A few Passengers from coach class were using our bathroom. We only had one bathroom for all of us and the crew. (I mentioned it to our flight attendant and it was obvious she only tried to humor me because they kept coming all through the flight. ) but I have to say she was very nice.. I am normally not a complainer... but when a person saves up all year to pay the extra big bucks, then one has to say something.. so others will take this into consideration. We will not fly first class with Alaska again. We will fly Hawaiian. It was excellent... I like Alaska on coach but not first class. What is happening to our airlines ? read more

I used Alaska Airlines to fly Bellingham, WA - Maui, Hi and to fly Seattle, WA - Lihue,HI for many years. I am very happy with their service! I have flown many major airlines in the US, and can say that Alaska exceeds my expectations most of the times. There are hick ups here and there but it is a nature of the business. If safety and comfort is your concern - I say go with Alaska! Staff is very courteous and very professional! Plenty of leg room between seats in coach! Bring your own tablet or smart phone to watch movies in-flight and remember to download gogo app before boarding the plane. With regards to food, it is as good as it gets on the plane. My advice for any air travelers is to bring their own food before they board ANY airline. See Anthony Bourdain's advise on that. Fly Alaska with confidence and ignore the downers. read more

NEVER EVER FLY THIS AIRLINE!!! I would rate this a ZERO if it would allow me to! My husband and I flew Alaskan from Sacramento to Maui. I had no opinion either way at that time..just okay at best. The trip HOME, however, is a different story!! We arrived at the airport early and checked in. My husband received a text (which I still have) letting us know our flight was delayed. No problem. So...we decided to go grab lunch to go to bring on the plane, as their food is less than desirable. When we got back to the gate, we were told that the plane was 'on time after all' and had already pulled away from the gate!! They can TEXT US THAT THEY ARE LATE BUT NOT THAT THEY ARE BACK ON TIME!!!??? The only flight we could get left us sitting at the airport for 9 hours, COST US plus went to Seattle with a layover THEN to Sac, putting us in the next day! I take care of my mom with alzheimers. My sister, who flew out from NC to give us a break, has a flight home tonight so I am left scrambling for someone to stay with my mom until we can get back. The counter people were rude and their customer service is worthless. Not only will we NEVER FLY this airline again, but we are cancelling our flyer program and credit card with them as well. We fly alot and have NEVER been treated like this! read more

We flew Alaska Airlines from Kona to Oakland last week. We hated every minute of the five hour flightt. The seats were dirty and smelt of urine. I asked the attendant if they had room freshener, just so I could breathe without holding my nose. She readily handed me a bottle; I guess it is normal for Alaska Airlines to have dirty seating, she didnt seem bothered by my request. We chose Alaska instead of Hawaiian to avoid the layover at Maui, but it turned out to be bad choice. read more

Flight attendant by the name of MAILA is very Rude and racist! They shouldn't let her work as a flight attendant, Customer service is sucks. First of all, we weren't informed that the restroom in first class is for first class only, we were seated in row 7 and the closest restroom is the one in the first class, the row who seated from 6 -9 uses that restroom and by the time my youngest son needed to use the first class restroom he was turned down by the rude and bitchy flight attendant Maila. My son felt uncomfortable because he really needs to go pee. Where's the courtesy here ? She asked to used the main cabin restroom which is all the way in the back. my son ended up peeing his underwear.I will never fly with Alaska Airlines ever again. read more

Worst flying experience ever! I fly often aswell!. I was on flight 805 on Tuesday June 10th from sacramento to maui. Everything was normal until I was in the air and was faced with the worst service by flight attendants ever! One gentleman was kind but the two elderly attendants were so rude! I could not believe the way they were speaking to me and giving me so much attitude! I cannot believe I gave them my hard earned money I be treated that way! Sure I got to my destination safe. If ZERO was a choice, I would put that instead of a one. Incompetent, unfriendly, and completely uninformative staff and pilots. My flight got delayed due to an unexplained "equipment issue"... And instead of being up front, communicative, and honest, they decided to keep brushing all of us off, and repeatedly moved our departure time back in multiple 30 minute intervals. Nobody on the crew could tell us when, or yes, or no regarding our flight actually moving. Nor were they in any way reassuring. I will NEVER use this airline again. I would sooner pay another airline in gold bars than use any flier miles with this b.s. airline. read more

We flew from Maui to San Diego. There is no movie, but they rent you a personal movie viewer for $10. We found this out the hard way, on the ride to Maui. No problem, we paid the $10 and enjoyed the movie selections. However on the way back, they ran out when they hit aisle 25, we were in aisle 29. They have 32 rows with 6 people per rows. All those people were PISSED including us. These airlines are all about the bottom line, no customer service. I have no problem paying the $10 to rent the movie viewer, but I have a big problem when you don't stock the plane with a viewer for every single seat on the plane. That is not only poor customer service, but poor business on their part. They missed out on the revenue. read more

The first leg of our 1st class trip to Seattle was pretty good. Unfortunately they were in the middle of downgrading their first class to smaller seats with no more movie pads or entertainment support. They also ran out of food. Basically, Alaska First class is no different or better than coach, so save your money. read more

This was my first time flying with Alaska airlines and they were fantastic!! We got to upgrade out seats to first class for very cheap. On the way back home Mahealani, the customer service agent was incredible. She helped us get our seats next to each other since we both weren't able to get first class. We took Alaska air from San Diego to Maui. The attendants were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately on our plans there was an elderly women who was sick with chest pains. The girls waisted no time asking the passengers if anyone was an emt. Good thing she was fine but we thought the professionalism in handling this was amazing. Alaska airlines is the worst. Trying to get to SD from Maui on a non stop first class. Checked in this am and no notification online of a delayed flight due to mechanical difficulties. So we check out of the hotel and drive to the airport. Walk up to the Alaska counter for checkin and the agent says oh are you aware of the delay? I say what delay. She says the flight is delayed 4 hours. OUTRAGEOUSLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. WILL DEFINITELY AVOID THEM IN THE FUTURE. I was on flight 814 from Maui to San Diego. While I had a beautiful trip in Maui, our experience with the employees at the Alaska Airlines curbside check in at OGG was not as impressive. At some point during the time I dropped off my luggage with the skycap, several items of clothing were stolen out of my luggage. Bathing suits, skirts, pants etc!!!! I am extremely disappointed that Alaska Airlines would hire thieves! They need to do a better job at screening their employees. At least several hundreds of dollars of clothing was stolen out of my luggage. It's a pain in the butt to try and recoup this and the employees know this. So, I'm going to leave reviews and post on social media. Never again Alaska Airlines! You have a female employee about a size 8-10 that is very fashionably dressed right now! read more

June 5th 2019 flight from Maui to Oakland. Horrible customer service! Completely empty check in area; not one person in line and workers at their computers waiting yet they made us print out our luggage tags ourselves on the kiosk. We had to wait to board almost 2 hours late as we had to wait for a flight attendant replacement because one attendant didn't like the other and refused to come into work. We were lied to multiple times about what was really going on and told different stories by everyone including the captain until we found out the truth. We were all lied to constantly about wait times instead of being honest they tried to do "comfortable numbers". Once in flight we had to turn around and land back in Maui as they would not tell us why just abruptly came over the mic saying that exact thing in a stressed voice leaving passengers uneasy. In fact many were looking at the safety cards to make sure they knew where life vests were etc. the Captain told us only after we landed that it was a rudder issue. They left us on the plane for over an hour giving us those "comfortable numbers" again before we deplaned. They told us they would give us an update but did not have one and said they had no idea when the plane would be ready and no one could get their bags because it still says in the system that we were in flight. No food vouchers or anything while we waited, at this point most had been there since 1:30 and it is now 8:30pm everyone was hungry and mad and farther down the line they waited so long the workers could no longer give us food vouchers because everything was closed. They brought out snacks and made sure to repeat over and over that each person can only have one, such generosity! Come to find out all of us were eating YEAR OLD EXPIRED FOOD, ours for example expired in July and October of 2018 and it tasted like it too - UNBELIEVABLE! After many more times given they finally told us that the flight was cancelled but quickly contradicted themselves and said "well its not technically cancelled until the captain gives the final word" - this seemed to be the theme of the day! Got in line to rebook, one worker was rebooking half the plane and this took 2 hours!!!! We did not leave the airport until after midnight we got a taxi and hotel voucher a 30 min drive to the hotel later we finally got into our room at 1:30 in the morning. A 12 hour ordeal with no sincere apology whatsoever in fact my husband overheard some of the workers talking bad about the passengers and they definitely were annoyed with the passengers you could tell. No honesty, no care, no generosity while this was all happening, horrendous customer service. I will not fly with Alaska unless it was a last resort. read more

This was the first time in a while I've flown Alaskan. On the return trip out of Maui back to San Diego, I noticed the seating I had initially selected for myself and my girlfriend had been changed (when the flight time changed). We were no longer sitting next to each other. Airlines reserve the right to change seating schedules for a number of reasons, including changing planes, etc. which is understandable. Nonetheless, when it happens to you, its pretty annoying, especially when you book the flight seven months in advance. After we checked in and made it through security, I spoke to a younger woman at the gate (can't remember her name for the life of me) explaining the situation. She told us she would do everything she could to fix the situation. Right before the flight boarded she paged us to the front desk, letting us know she had fixed the situation and gave us (me) a new ticket sitting next to my girlfriend. Fantastic service. I will happily fly Alaskan again. The $7 drinks (alcohol) and $6-$7 food didn't bother me. Backs of seats have chargers for phones, computers, etc. read more

My husband and I fly Alaska Airlines Sacramento-Maui, round trip, at least once a year, sometimes twice a year. This is a 5 hour flight so we upgrade to first class for the comfort and a quieter environment. Our return flight this year, last week actually, was a nightmare. Two young couples with babies sat in first class and guess what...the rest of the first class cabin was held hostage to crying, whining and screaming, even before the plane took off. For 5 hours we had to put up with parents trying to "shush" these infants that have no clue what "shush" is. Why would these millennial parents think it's a good idea to bring a baby on a 5 hour flight to begin with? Why would these millennial parents think it's okay to impose upon other people that have paid double-triple the airfare with crying infants? Did they actually think their babies were going to enjoy a 5 hour flight? Upon deplaning, without voicing any complaints, our first class attendant pulled my husband aside and said he would soon see some extra miles in his account. Apparently their way of apologizing for millennial parents that have no intention of caring about anyone but themselves or thinking about how their choices affect others. So yesterday we received 2000 points in each of our mileage accounts. This equates to a $40 value. Wait...what? Seriously? Alaska Airlines, if you really care about your loyal first class passengers then you owe us 60,000 points for a one way fare to Maui...not an insulting 2000 points. When a client pays as much as a first class passenger pays then they should get what they have paid for. If Alaska Airlines can't provide a first class environment then their first class passengers deserve to be appropriately compensated and not insulted with a $40 value in miles. I'm ready to change to another airline even if it means a stop in Honolulu. read more
