Walked over from Ocean Bay Park with family and we had a wonderful and tasty dinner. Wife had the flounder sandwich and she loved it, I had the rack of ribs which were very tender and the BBQ sauce and rub was awesome!! Was told this was the best food in Ocean Beach. I came here twice and had no complaints, and found it slightly better than some of the local restaurants. Probably my favorite place to get sauced up and spend an evening in OB. Why? -Never overly packed. -Decent drink prices and good bartenders -Booths along the outside and plenty of stools at the bar. -Small outdoor deck in the front -Good tunes and better crowd than most of the other bars. -I smacked those lights that everyone is talking about probably 500x last summer. We have lived on Fire Island for five years. This restaurant is our fave. Number one for its consistency. The food is always good sometimes great. The environment is fun, friendly and down to earth. The servers hustle to get you seated and served. Unlike some of the bay side spots it does not have a view, but it does have a deck with great people watching views!! It also does not have a rowdy happy hour or drink they think they invented. LOL, no disrespect to the rocket fuel and zippy cooler I love them both. Everything about this place was bad. We sat down at nine on a Wednesday night and saw our server three times (take order/bring food/give check). Our water glasses stayed empty and we had to keep asking for napkins and utensils that never came. The "buffalo" wings were more like cheap flavored mixture of buffalo sauce and BBQ sauce from Costco. The chicken fingers looked good, but were mostly fried bread and no chicken. And the penne vodka came out cold. We won't be making. A trip back here any time soon.... read more

I really love this restaurant food is always amazing. I didn't realize that they had a Sunday Seafood happy hour! I was able to have all my favorite seafood for $10 . I ordered clams, mussels, fish and chips. Every thing was amazing. My waitresses was also very nice. In the evenings the music is great. It gets packed but not overly packed . Real solid sea food, and Great South Bay on tap. Can't complain about that! Grilled scallops were the size of my chicks fists! She has small hands, but still! Little neck steamers done perfectly, as was the fried calamari. Service was real solid as well! The star of the show though were the fish tacos. Blackened talapia on a soft tortilla with pico, guac, and sour cream. Amazing! Definitely a return trip is in order next time I head to Fire Island. read more

Went to Albatross for drinks before boarding out Ferry back to Long Island. Got a couple of rounds of drinks and snacks. While the drinks and snacks were ok, the service was TERRIBLE. The waitress (Catrina) prompted us to leave passive aggressively even before we had finished our last round of drinks. While a few people were waiting, we thought it was very unprofessional and rude. Additionally, multiple tables had started to clear. On top of that, the waitress manually penned in the tip when we paid so as to not have her service reflect on the tip that we paid. Nice place with a lovely deck. But ABYSMAL SERVICE. Go to the awesome Castaway if you want to chill and have a good time instead! read more

Terribly slow service on a slow chilly day. Took very very long to get our food to the table. Messed up our order, but didn't complain for replacement as we didn't want to wait any longer again. No water refills, and when requested, the waitress didn't return with any refill. We had to ask another waitress for water before we would start choking with mediocre food they had. Came back here on a date and I had a sick ass duckin time. Totally take back what I said about the Tross from my previous review from the prior summer 2017. Also heard they updated the nachos from being made with ballpark queso to actual cheese, the latter being how they should be served at a restaurant ofc. The mediterranean calamari is hellaaa tasty (it has friend jalapenos in there and they are beyond tasty, but act as filler so you're getting alot less calamari but they serve as such a good component to the app that it's fine in my book, just thought would be worth a mention). The blackened tuna sandwich with the wasabi mayo cranked so dang hard and finally the shrimp garlic pasta.. it was saucy in all aspects of the word. Prices could be better but it's Fire Island, what you gunna do. read more

After being turned down by every other restaurant in Ocean Beach (late dinner), we stumbled across this place and they gladly served us. The menu was perfect, service friendly and attentive, and food was delicious. We got a variety of appetizers, specials and entrees. Each one was better than the next! The menu might say, "FAMOUS FISH TACOS." However, I immediately regretted this order. First off, before the first bite, the sauce dropped everywhere in unbelievable quantity. Not to mention that everything on the plate was absolutely AWFUL. I hate this so much. I'm feeling nauseous just thinking about it. I asked the waiter how this dish is, and they blatantly said, "it's the best dish on fire island!" LIES! Do not believe this libel. Thee days later I'm suffering from an irritable bowel. Hands down the best spot for food and drinks on the island! They fresh squeeze grapefruit for their signature Greyhounds and they are to die for. The sesame crusted tuna loin is my favorite thing on the menu but everything I've ever eaten here is delicious. The staff has always gone above and beyond in making every night with friends and family one to be remembered. They've also been so buttoned up during COVID with their approach to safety! We always feel safe and comfortable going there. Pete, Jules and Dan and the entire staff always knock it out of the park every time I've gone. It really can't be beat! read more

The tross is known for having some of the best food in town and the reputation holds strong! Our waitress Jules was the sweetest and most attentive service I've had in a while. Albatross is one of those special summer places that just cant be explained easily.The food is mediocre at best but eating there is just a connivence. The true action is on Friday and Saturday nights where the place is packed full of people who seem to be having the time of their lives!! They have a resident DJ on the weekends who plays an eclectic mix of music that includes up to date tunes as well as some rock anthems that makes the whole place go nuts!!There is dancing goin on everywhere!! Avoid at all costs. This place exists only to take advantage of tourists in the area. They hire terribly rude bar tenders that are extremely unprofessional. Out of all the bar options you have don't waste your money here. The food is extremely basic bland bar food and the drink specials are a joke. You would think they would at least teach their bar tenders to smile when serving drinks or pretend they care about their job.
