The food and atmosphere were amazing and the staff were very nice. The only reason I would not be set on going more often was the coffee. I got a double shot of espresso and it tasted excessively acidic. I only ever drink espresso so I am accustomed to "bitter" coffee. Perhaps I got poorly pulled shots, but I would not order espresso from here again. They did have some teas I would perhaps try in the future. I really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, but I didn't even finish my coffee. Regardless, it seems like a nice place. There was also a parking lot out front so parking was easy. read more

A great place for coffee in KTown! It's packed with people studying during the day, but you can usually find a seat for yourself. (However, because of the crowd it can get loud so bring earphones if you're planning to study.) The cafe is nice and cozy. It has a beautiful interior and a young, hipster vibe. But what impressed me the most were the drinks - all of the drinks I have tried were delicious. It's a little pricey, but it's one of the better places I've been to for a latte. It's located in a plaza. Parking is valet ($2) but there is plenty of street parking also. MATCHA LATTE - 5/5 Sweet, creamy, and flavorful! It's one of my favorite places for a matcha latte. This place is one of my favorite coffee places in LA. It's a Korean owned shop, has a modern industrial decor going on, & super nice baristas. It's a great place to study (fairly quiet) and I've never had an issue with parking. I believe parking is free for an hour from 7:30am-10:30am and then you have to pay a small fee after. My favorite drink here is the bourbon cold brew. It's cold brew, milk, & their house syrup. It's SO GOOD! If you like horchata, you should try their Spanish latte. It's not my favorite but a lot of my friends love it. They also sell a few baked goods, cheesecake, & Intelligentsia coffee. I knew I had to visit a cafe in Koreatown before I left LA and this place checked every mark of my cafe criteria Gorgeous interior..check! Delicious not-too-sweet drinks...check! Equally delicious food...check! Alchemist Coffee Project has beautiful branding and lattes that I haven't seen on the menus on the east coast. It was a struggle to pick which one but I went with the Duo Latte which was milk tea and espresso and I had it less sweetened. The pastries looked delicious but I wanted something a bit more hearty so I went with the avocado truffle toast. Both items exceeded my expectations. The latte was perfectly sweet and milky, haven't had anything like it before. The toast had a lot of avocado which I appreciated for the price point. Had a great amount of herbs and spices on it as well. My friend got the pesto chicken sandwich and said it was one of the best she's ever had. I wish I could've stayed here longer to chat or do some work but I'm so glad I could have visited before my trip back home. read more

My friends and I are only in LA for two days. And the reviews of Alchemist read positively, so we Uber-ed through traffic at 4pm for 50 minutes just to try this place. The 1 star rating is for the interior as it did look nice. Another star for the initial customer connection made at the POS. It went downhill from then. We had waited 4 mins for our iced latte and a single shot of espresso. When I walked up to the handoff plane the cashier asked me "can I help you?" the tone of voice was not pleasant and I was just in line and you took the order but you don't remember? I told her I was waiting for my espresso and she responded "it'll be coming soon." It's a single shot of espresso....what? There were 3 iced coffee or cold brew drinks that the cashier poured immediately after taking their order. I'm sure that's the standard policy but if a customer has already told you s/he is waiting for a beverage but you still make the proceeding ones...that doesn't make the customer feel good. Okay either way if the espresso was amazing, I would over look all this. First sip of of it had a super tangy taste. I tried again, tasted worse. I immediately threw it away. Coffee here was great! I ordered a decaf bc I'm pregnant and I think this is the first time a coffee place has actually given me decaf!! Other times I ordered a decaf and double checked with them they said it was "decaf" but my baby was going crazy in my belly and I had to go pee. Caffeine is a diuretic, so it makes you have to go. So came here after eating at kobawoo and I got a decaf iced mocha which tasted great! The interior is nice and lots of seating, BUT there were so many people there studying and doing whatever that seating was limited. Oh well, next time. I came here a year ago with my friend, not knowing this hidden gem existed next to one of my favorite restaurants, Kobawoo (which you should definitely try). This cafe has major hipster vibes with marble tables and some good coffee. I love their Spanish latte! It's rich in flavor, and so delicious. I bring all of my friends here, and they love the vibes of this place. Plus, it's also a great place to study! Only downside is that it's really small, and seats are limited. However, if you don't mind paying a $2 flat rate of parking (which honestly is nothing compared to other parking rates in LA), then go for it. So worth it. Getting off of work, I wanted a refreshing cup of cold brew so I pulled up my trusty Yelp app. Nearest coffee shop came out as Bourbon St Café so off I went. You'll find this gem on the corner of 7th and Vermont. Parking area is very small and your only hope is to get valet for a small fee of $1.50 Not bad at all. Ambiance (5 stars) - smooth jazz/lounge music playing, decors that managed to look modern yet cozy, and free WiFi. Perfect for hanging out with friends, studying, or a date. Service (5 stars) - very friendly and moderately paced considering there's only two people manning the counter. Green tea latte (5 stars) - this was what got my attention. I originally wanted cold brew but when I saw a pic of this, I knew I gotta try it. Not sweet nor bland, it was a perfect cup of hot, green, silky drink. I couldn't help but take little sips in between taking pics of it. I was sweating a bit considering it was too warm of a day for a hot drink but I didn't mind. Macarons (5 stars) Blueberry Lemon Carribean Chocolate - amazingly decadent. $2.25/piece but so worth it. Crisp on the outside but melts in your mouth once you bite in. I love the chocolate more than the blueberry lemon but both are good, regardless. Cold brew (2 stars) - I was excited to try this but unfortunately it did not deliver. Bad news, it just didn't live up to the cold brew I had in NY. Good news, they have more coffee options to try. Anyway, so here I was at the corner, taking pics of my drinks and people watching, right? 3 to 4 tables of people studying, 2 tables with couples on a date... The french roast was prepared fresh by the cup. It was bold, yet subtle. It was deep, yet tickled the nose. I am a fan of coffee and this cup was hardcore! The coffee shop itself is very small. There are a few tables and a coffee bar. They also have wifi, but no electrical outlets. Thus, the four stars. The parking lot is small. I was able to get easy parking but can imagine how it is later in the day. The plaza also sports some other stores and a restaurant. They also open early (around 7am). A great place to Java-Fi. A very new cafe in the heart of Koreatown without the pretentiousness or bougie of some coffeeshops or cafes. A cozy little spot in a shopping plaza that provides a comfortable spot to have a coffee and pastry or power through on your laptop with their free WiFi. Paul J., the owner of the cafe prides himself on serving you an excellent cup of coffee, in whichever form you prefer, whether is a french press, paper cone extraction or espresso.Ask him about coffee and he will share his vast knowledge on the subject. Bourbon Street features Intelligentista coffee. You will not be disappointed if you enjoy a real cup of coffee rather than the swill you might find elsewhere. I enjoyed a perfectly executed cappuccino so much that I wound up ordering another one to go with my bear claw from BreadBar. It's not a huge place. It's not a franchise. It doesn't have the bad attitudes you might find at some places. I'm looking forward to trying Paul's drink invention of the "Fat Americano." I believe its an espresso over ice and soda. Nice place to study, albeit pricey. A matcha latte with soy set me back $6.18. The latte was nice and creamy. They have a sign that asks customers to stay only 2 hours. Valet parking starts around 10:30am and costs $1.50. There's a couple outlets around but it's better to come charged so you don't chance it. There was a large group at the communal table when I came in on a Sunday morning but after they left it was quiet and perfect for studying. Free and fast wifi here. I really like coming here for my coffee breaks when I want to stick it to Starbucks and get a CUTE latte by the friendly staff! Love that they use Intelligensia coffee... it's so strong and tasty! Also happy that they serve affogatos (my fave) and affogato shakes here! They used to serve Anima sandwiches, but now that they're gone, they've figured out a way to make their own. Kudos! They give you a good serving of salad w/each sandwich and they use/make(?) one of the best blueberry dressings I've ever tasted! (Plus a tiny cup of bb compote.) I don't even think I've ever had blueberry salad dressing before! Who knew it could be so good! You might expect a place called Bourbon Street Cafe to carry a strong New Orleans theme - beads, jazz, maybe an alcohol license. Recall, though, that this cafe is in Koreatown. The theme is "nice coffee shop" and it's executed quite well. The ambiance is pleasant and relaxed, the decor clean and cozy, with warm daytime lighting and a lot of wood and a formidable coffee bar. Some wall art alludes to New Orleans, so the owners didn't quite pick the name out of a hat (not that it would matter if they did). I met an interviewer at Bourbon Street and she bought me a cappuccino, which probably predisposed me to liking the place. It was a tasty cappuccino, which is somewhat unusual in Koreatown, where ambiance tends to trump good coffee. I'm not sure how much it cost, but if it was under $6, it was practically a bargain. The atmosphere was perfect for a leisurely interview. Service was fast and friendly enough, and once we were seated, we were left alone. I'm not a huge coffee drinker and Koreatown is just far enough away that I don't anticipate coming here often. That said, I can see how Bourbon Street Cafe would attract a crowd of regulars. Did not enjoy the Chai Latte at all. The tea wasn't right. I immediately felt disappointed. I considered returning to change the drink or get a refund, but I was halfway back to my office. Didn't notice until I was handed the small cup, but they didn't even ask me what size I wanted. For what I paid here, that usually gets you a medium at least. This is exactly why I'm such a huge fan of homemade. Serves me right for hitting snooze a few too many times this morning and not having the time. I give them 3 stars because I ordered my Cafe Latte for the very first time with Almond Milk. I've drank almond milk before, ordered it as a substitute at Urth Caffe. The one used in this latte did not taste like almond milk. It tasted like unsweetened soy milk! I had a very difficult time finishing my espresso drink. I'm willing to give them another try, but this time, ordering it the way I would normally at Intelligentsia...with 2% milk. BTW, the girl doing the latte art did a so-so job. Sisters ordered a chai latte and Royal milk tea. Both were amazingly delicious. More of a dessert..tad too sweet for me but kept the sisters happy. Shop is spacious and cool coffee gadgets. Only improvement would be to have signs where to order and where to stand for your drinks. Korea Town seemingly has an endless supply of... well, Koreans. But coffee shops as well! Considering I've yet to find a way to mainline my caffeine fix intravenously, I still venture out daily for my cup of joe. I go to Starbucks usually for convenience and consistency of service. This is solely a review on their beverages because I haven't tried their food...but all of their food looks delicious. I really wanted to get out of the apartment so I decided we should go get coffee. We decided to head towards k-town and I found Alchemist Coffee Project. It sounded great...we parked in the wrong parking lot...it's not in the retail complex with buffalo wild wings...it's the one after that with it's own small valet parking area. Walking in, it was packed with people studying and eating. They have cute modern interior finishes with different types of lighting. The cashier was super knowledgeable about the different cold brew options they had. I ordered the Kyoto drip cold brew - black but it wasn't bitter whatsoever and was chocolaty and super caffeinated. The Kyoto style is apparently the most caffeinated type there is. WOO HOO. Anyway the husband ordered a matcha iced green tea but they made a matcha latte so when my husband mentioned the mixup, they just made another green tea no questions asked. I went again for a second time this past weekend and ordered a peach white tea. It was sweet and delicious all in all...I have to say YES YES YES to Alchemist! read more
