We've been looking for a good Mediterranean restaurant in the area for quite a while. Most are nothing to speak of. The other good ones are a long way away for us. It looks like our quest has ended. My wife found this place on Yelp. It has nice reviews so we gave it a try. This place exceeded our expectations. It's a very unassuming place. Not fancy at all but nice. Its was clean and comfortable though. One thing that was unusual was that they had a giant monitor on the wall. I was trying to think what they would show on the monitor. Certainly not sports or TV I thought. How weird would that be in this setting? But it turns they showed these great video montages of magnificent landscapes and various panoramic shots of cities etc taken mostly of drone footage with an easy listening music soundtrack. If you've ever watched the Arial America show on Smithsonian channel then you know what I'm talking about. I found it totally hypnotic and relaxing and super enjoyed it while eating my meal. AAAAAnyway... back to the food. We had a falafel appy. I had a Shish entree and my wife had the garlic shrimp and cigar borek appys as entrees. We topped off the meal with Turkish coffee,Turkish tea and really really nice baklava. Without going into detail, every dish was plus plus. There were a lot of other things on the menu that we wanted to try. We'll will definitely be going back. Nice place - plus quality food - good prices. Not sure what else could ask for. Amazing lunch spot - great deal and ever better food. Their lunch special is $9.50 and comes with meat, rice, shepherd (tomato/cucumber) salad or lentil soup and a drink. So delicious. I've gotten the chicken shish kebab and the steak shish kebab. By far my favorite lunch in the area. They have a cute and cozy inside with seating, also offer take-out and nearby delivery. One con is the parking lot seems pretty rough to find a spot if it's busy. I've never had an issue just stopping in to pick up, but my work usually orders on the later side of lunch time. The chicken gyro was well-seasoned and came with delicious hot and garlic sauces, as well as a generous portion of rice, roasted veggies, and fresh pita bread. One of the better mediterranean places I've eaten at in Northern New Jersey. (Not too many but nonetheless it was one of the best) The falafel was crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside with great flavor. The hummus that comes with it is great too. I had the chicken shish kebab that comes with rice. Huge portions and was so juicy! The tables are well spaced out for covid and its a nice secluded area in the back of the restaurant under a tent. Really great Donner sandwiches aka gyro. Really brought back memories of my travels overseas. The only thing missing was the grease! In Europe this sandwich is often dripping with grease and it all seems to work. I get the healthy version here in the states so I'm not knocking it as it was still an awesome sandwich! The other items we had, Kosta, lentil soup etc were also on point so we will be ordering again soon for sure! read more

Alev's food and overall experience was superb. One can park a car easily, plenty of room off the route 46. Ambience was very comforting. Service very quick and courteous. Dishes did try and can highly recommend ,- assorted plate with Turkish appetizers, fresh salad with feta cheese, and , certainly, calamari which were tender and crisp at the same time. Me and my friends had ordered meat plate assorted , and delicious bulgar. Meat arrived very tender and succulent, melts in your mouth. Do not miss authentic Turkish coffee and Turkish deserts. You will be pleasantly surprised. It is working noting that one can actually talk in the restaurant, noise insulation is very good. It was worth driving from Staten Island for such a delicious branch. Stop by, eat in, order out. read more

Tonight was my first visit to ALEV and I will say that my dining experience was outstanding. First of all, the interior of the restaurant is modest and cozy. I arrived with a large group and we were seated comfortably and arranged in a way that allowed all of us to easily communicate with one another. But the best part of our dining experience by far was the food. The food at ALEV is what sets it apart from other Turkish restaurants that I have dined at. I highly recommend the cigara burek and the fried calves liver for an appetizer followed by the adana and kofte kebabs for the main course. We were also served generous portions of pilaf made according to Uzbek culinary traditions. The pilaf is a must! Overall, the quality of the food is outstanding, the portions are generous and the prices are more than reasonable. Finally, a few words about the service. It is outstanding! The waitresses are prompt and always courteous! Tulin, the owner of the restaurant, is charming and truly enjoys to mingle with the customers. All in all, I look forward to going back to ALEV with my friends to sample more of the tasty selections on the menu! read more

I was driving on 46 when I saw Alev was opening. I have been driving to Morristown or Paterson for good Mediterranean food and was excited that we had a new place so close to home. I decided to order online for delivery and this restaurant quickly became one of my favorites! The food is delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The portions are just right (I even have leftovers for lunch the next day). When you choose a time for delivery, they show up on time or even early. When I have had to call about my order for whatever reason, they are always helpful and friendly. The prices are decent and the food is worth every cent. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! My only complaint is that they went on vacation and I had to be without them for 2 weeks! I ordered the day they reopened. I definitely recommend Alev, you will NOT be disappointed. read more

We have tried Alev twice. The hummus and tzatziki are wonderful. We got lamb gyros and were confused when they didn't come with pita. Only 2 pita came with the hummus and tzatziki (not enough by far.) We had so much of both left over but with no pita to eat it with. Then the gyro doesnt come with pita AND the lamb was extremely dry. Both times. We ordered a second time hoping it would be better but the only improvement the second time around was that I ordered extra pita (at my cost.) Unless I hear of improvements we are done with Alev. It's a shame when the local Diner offers a better gyro than a Mediterranean restaurant. read more

We originally made the reservation because they had vegan options, we had 8 people and three were vegan, but we were very much surprised by the regular menu as well as the vegan options. A wonderful lady (Tulin) greeted me by my first name as we walked in and I have to say the best part of the charm of the restaurant was her personality. I felt like I was dining at a friends house. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and our table was set beautifully for 8 people. The menu was loaded with many Mediterranean & Turkish options, lamb chops being my favorite, somehow Tulin must have been clairvoyant because she guessed what I was going to order. She was very helpful to my grandkids about the vegan options and we found a number of items that we could all share as appetizers and all the appetizers were outstanding. My wife and I judge most restaurants by their bread and this was a pleasant first morsel, with two types of bread, pita and a thicker bread, both of which were fresh and delicious. The lamb chops were all that I hoped for and all my guests were happy with their choices. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great experience, I will definitely go back. When you go don't be put off by the humble exterior. We stumbled upon this place by chance as we were in area and read amazing reviews thanks to fellow yelpers and this place doesn't disappoint at all.. We went eggplant with sauce, stuffed grape leaves, falafel platter, hummus and their flan ( sorry forgot the exact name).. and everything was exceptional.. My favorite were eggplant with sauce that came as fried eggplant with bell peppers with tomatoes & onion sauce and it was so fresh & second stuffed grape leaves with herbs & spices were perfect.. i think their falafel were good and flan desert was outstanding.. I wish this place was close by. It will definitely be my regular place.. Do check it out.. you won't be disappointed!!! read more

I spent more than 20 years in the USAF and was stationed for a while at Incirlik AB near Adana, Turkey and really came to love Turkish food. This restaurant is a really excellent example of their cuisine and allowed me to sample over several visits, several different dishes. I enjoyed them all and if you dine here and then come back again, make sure you experiment with their menu. My first trip here was for Adana Kebab and it was outstanding! Their red lentil soup is also exceptional, too. I have only one issue and it's not with the food or the restaurant. As a matter of fact, it's an issue I have with many reviewers, diners and even restaurants that post pictures of their food. Would all the owners and reviewers who post pictures PLEASE LABEL THE DISHES they are taking photos of. While everything looks delicious, if we don't know what it is, it makes it harder to order the next time we visit those establishments. Hint, hint: This tip is for owners who post as well as diners who write reviews and post their own photos! read more

Really good. I've traveled to Turkey many times for work - the food here took me right back to my days on the Bosphorus. The cigara pastry was delicious, and the red lentil soup was a nice surprise - my favorite really - ezo gelin. I ordered a shepherds salad, which was great even if the tomatoes weren't totally in season. Wrapped up the meal with a really delicious rice pudding.
