We had a group of 6 and was seated upstairs in a semi-private room. I ordered the steak salad and it was amazing. We asked for separate checks but he said he could only break it into 4 at the most. Hmmm Ok we said just split it into two with these 3 and these 3. That apparently was too confusing because he had to come back and confirm. We said just split 3 and 3 we don't care how it's split. He came back with one check. We then realized it was NOT our check (after he already ran the card). So he voided that one snd gave us another check with all 6 together. Seriously!?! Then he told us the gratuity was included (menu said it would be for parties over 6) but we realized it wasn't. Moral of the story. Don't go as a group. Food is good. Decided to dine here before going to the Tina musical. It is about a half mile walk and not too far. We made a reservation but honestly it wasn't needed on a Friday night!! They had seats available inside and out (they have their heaters above and no one asked if we needed them turned on, would have been nice to be a bit warmer), we opted for outside. It took a while to get our drinks. The drinks were OK, non-alcoholic and there wasn't anything special about the mock tails. For dinner we ordered the spicy fried chicken and roasted salmon. Everything was good but nothing memorable. They don't have espresso machine so the hot fresh cappuccino after the dinner was out of question. Inside is really hot, so we opted for outdoor seating. We waited a pretty long time for our server like about 20ish minutes. Not sure why it took them so long when they weren't busy. After they took our orders, it came out pretty quickly . Like 10 mins. I got the Fried chicken with bacon Mac and cheese and truffle mashed potatoes. The original dish had greens, but I swapped it out for the mashed potatoes. The food was decent. It wasn't memorable but it wasn't bad. The truffle mash could've tasted more truffley and the Mac and cheese was kind of bland and watery. I prefer my Mac n cheese to be creamier. The fried chicken had a nice crunch but barely any flavor. Second time here; my first time was on my first date with my now boyfriend! Have to thank Aliment for that haha Our starters were the Brussel sprouts and the Mac & cheese, both were delicious! We got the garden party drink, nice and refreshing. For our mains, we ordered the steakhouse burger and grilled salmon. Visited this spot in Sf for a late lunch around 2:00pm while spending a day shopping. The inside was small and cute with a few booths downstairs and more seating upstairs. We were greeted right away and seated promptly. Our server Zach, was great! We ordered a cocktail and margarita and both were delicious. Let's talk about the food- For appetizer: we got the mango habanero wings which were full of flavor. Usually they're too sweet at other places, but they balanced the sweet and spicy just right! Came with a good amount of wings. For entrees: I was debating between ribeye and lamb chops but I'm so glad I made the right choice with the lamb chops! My partner got them as well with hers well done and I got mine medium well. Surprisingly, they cooked both perfectly and boy were they delicioussss! Charred to perfection with tzatziki and chimichurri sauce. So good that I'll be craving them. For dessert: we got the fritter-like donuts w/chocolate and caramel sauce. They were good, nothing exceptional. Personally, I'm not a donut person and they were not as fluffy inside. I would try the panna cotta next time. Everything was great here. I've been coming to Aliment for several months and this place has become a staple in my weekly routine. Highlights include their happy hour (M-F: 2 p.m - 6 p.m) featuring cocktails, small bites, and my personal favorite is $25 bottle of the house white. Sam, the manager, puts extra care into selecting the wine for Aliment as I've seen him meet with several vendors to select wine when updating their wine list. I haven't been disappointed by anything I've had here. Sam truly cares about every customer's experience and goes the extra mile. Here are some of my favorite items: Panko Prawns (Pro Tip: grab some couscous on the side) Steak Salad (a recent discovery of mine, some customers order this daily) Truffle Fries Hugo Spritz (spin on the Aperol Spritz) You truly can't go wrong with anything you order here, attaching a photo of a "Michelin Guide Recommended" sign they have here (it's tucked away by the bar and I think it deserves more attention). I had the Country Fried Steak and it was great - the steak was well seasoned and had excellent texture: tender on the inside with the perfect crispness on the outside; the gravy was rich and delicious. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs and it added an additional dimension of protein to my meal. I also tried the Blueberry Pancakes and those were pretty good as well. The service was decent. We met an out of town friend for lunch here over the weekend. I was really excited after reviewing the menu as they had chicken fried steak on it. I have not had that in a long time, so I ordered it for my meal. The chicken fried steak was covered in a white gravy and served with potatoes. The fried portion stayed mostly crispy under the sauce. I enjoyed that the gravy was thick and not thin, so that it stayed onto the steak when cut. The potatoes were seasoned well and crispy. The staff and service was good. When you order the most expensive entree on the menu and it's not edible... Last night I ate mashed potatoes and kale for dinner and it cost me $54. The short rib was so overcooked that it wouldn't even cut with a knife. It was dry, tough and flavorless. I couldn't even chew it enough to swallow. My husband tried eating it and couldn't. The entire thing was sitting on my plate when our server cleared the table, which normally would prompt a question about why it wasn't eaten. I was prepared to offer feedback, but he asked nothing. Not "Was something wrong?", "Do you want a to-go box?", or even "How was everything?". Chef... short ribs should fall apart with a fork, not resemble tire rubber. I booked our dinner reservation here two months prior because it had great reviews and was near the Masonic where we were planning on seeing a show with friends. My reservation was somehow booked outdoor when I specifically chose indoor. When I saw on OpenTable that I was out outdoor I emailed the restaurant and asked them to be sure that we would be seated indoor. The night that we arrived with our friends, they still had us listed as sitting outside and in the middle of December when it's freezing out, a few heat lamps just won't do. Our friends had arrived a few minutes before us asked the host about it and he said that he could sit us inside, but then changed his mind and said he wouldn't be able to. We ended up being lucky enough to find seats at the bar where we had our dinner. Not ideal but we made it work. The dinner itself was good enough, but the service was very poor and snobby. We didn't get any silverware and each time I had to ask the bartender for some thing, he put me on hold basically and very blatantly was in a bad mood. He didn't pay any attention to us at all during the meal. No one did. They sat an another guest in between me and another person at the bar where there was clearly not enough room, but they shoved him in there. He wasn't happy about it either and complained about the service as well from the bartender. Our experience was very disappointing to say the least especially considering how much our bill ended up being. We don't mind paying good money for good food and good service, but that was not what we received on the service end. We aren't high maintenance guests at all and very down to earth and friendly. I don't understand how this restaurant has any good reviews... We got three dishes here and each of them was terrible and poorly done. One person got the fried chicken sandwich and found that it was stringy and overcooked. Another person got the Panko shrimp, which was so deeply fried and overcooked that it was inedible. Our new place tonight for the show was Aliment. It was nice and the service was prompt. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts which knocked my current favorite into 2nd place. These are now #1. They were perfectly roasted brown with a tasty Asian sauce. Be sure to order extra bread so you can enjoy finish up the flavorful red sauce. But note it will cost you $1/slice which if I would have known this I probably wouldn't have ordered it but would have been disappointed by wasting the sauce. The mussels tied for my favorite mussels from 1/2 Moon Bay. The burger we split didn't make the cut, not on my top 5. For me it was a bit too thick but I understand for some that's like "too much cheese" it makes no sense but I do understand, it was also dense and kind of dry but hubby did not agree with me. I've been to Aliment a handful of times, and I'm definitely a fan. It's a spot where you can get both good food and drinks/cocktails, which makes it perfect for date nights and small groups. If you come here, there's one thing you can't miss, and it's the brussel sprouts! They are deep-fried, then tossed in a carmelized fish sauce and noori, they are mad addicting! I don't even like veggies for the most part, but I'll crush an entire order of these to myself. The fried chicken and mac&cheese was delicious. The breading isn't too thick, yet tasty, and the chicken was real moist. Mac n cheese? can't go wrong. Our table also split an order of the salmon salad and truffle fries, both were a hit. Some things I want to order on my next visit is their burger and wild mushroom pasta. For their cocktails, they got a bunch, but my favorite was the rum-chata. The last time I went they had taken it off the menu, but the owner was so sweet. He ran next door, bought the rum bottle needed from the liquor store, and got what they needed to make the drink. That's some top-notch customer service! He didn't have to, but he made a point of it, and I truly appreciated it. For Irish coffee fans like myself, the 'Irishman' is also a good cocktail option if you need a little pick me up. Close to Union Square, this is a perfect spot to grab dinner before heading out to the bars for the night. The menu is new-american, so you can find something for everyone. The restaurant has three floors we were seated on the third floor which was a struggle for my handicap mother to climb up so many stairs and then to top that our table was right next to the bathroom door just if your wondering we were not walk in's. I made a reservation. My sister and mother both got the burger with fries. The fries look like it was the end of the batch scrape from the bottom of the fryer. They both said the burger was at least okay nothing special. I ordered the red lentil soup. I didn't think much about it. The cocktails we ordered weren't very impressive. The service was okay they took our order pretty quick and you don't have to wait long for food to arrive at your table but didn't see anyone come check in until it was time to pay the bill. The front of the place is deceptive, there's actually a back room and upstairs that has ton of extra seating! They're decorated for the holidays and the vibe is very fun and energetic inside. Food: - Rosemary Honey Gimlet: Delicious, strong, loved the rosemary undertone - CranApple Salad: Delicious and light, love the tanginess from the goat cheese and the sweet crunch from the candied walnuts - Mushroom Fettuccine: stole this how! This was a carb heaven of cheesy goodness. Definitely share this otherwise it might be too rich for one person. I savored every bite! - Parmesan Truffle Fries: this was the only thing that I was disappointed in. The fries were super soggy -- almost as if they were sitting in oil for too long or something. They didn't have the satisfying crunch I was looking for. We weren't sure if this was just how the restaurant prepares the fries but that was the only dish that fell short for us. We got here a little too early to park our car for a show, but to find a place with a Happy Hour open early was not easy. Thank goodness for Aliment! When we spotted the Happy Hour sign, we dashed in there quickly. Aliment offers a menu with shareable plates (fries for us) and a drink menu (husband = beer, Old Fashioned = me).
