    Poke bowl
    Kim G.

First time here. We discovered poke bowls in SoCal, specifically a franchise called Poke Chop and it has spoiled us. Their fish is fresh - Aloh-o's fish does not appear to be. Not only does the ahi tuna's and salmon's texture taste like it had been previously frozen, they both emit a very fishy smell. All the sides were good as was the brown rice - but you get a poke bowl for the fish. In addition, the tables were dirty, probably because they are understaffed. Shame, we would frequent this place if the fish were fresh.

My boyfriend and I stopped off here to take a break and randomly saw this Boba shop that was open on Christmas! We figure that would be a nice dessert for after dinner so we got a couple of drinks my passion, fruit, green tea Boba was pretty sweet, but I always add water to mine anyways. My boyfriend got a jasmine green tea, and liked it as well. Everything was really clean except a lot of the orders were takeout, so I think some of the servers got the drinks mixed up. Two people that came in after my boyfriend and me were served before us, but I also noticed they ordered black tea drinks and we ordered green tea drinks, so maybe the green tea had to steep longer or something. Nevertheless, everything was very clean and organized within the inside of the restaurant.

The best poke I've had in the Bay Area, it's AMAZING and they clearly label what's gluten free (and have gluten free soy sauce!) base price for whatever toppings you want and it's so delicious!

The staff were very friendly and professional. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted warmly and served quickly . The food here is delicious! Each dish is carefully prepared, rich in texture, unique in taste, and very fresh in ingredients. Reasonable price, high cost performance. Compared to other similar restaurants, the prices here are very reasonable and excellent value for money. Overall, the dining experience was very pleasant.

Worst sushi I've ever had. Dragon roll, poorly made, unfresh, cheaply priced. Understaffed. Best thing about the meal was the canned Sprite.

I ordered the sushi party platter for my birthday. It was fresh, delicious and plenty to eat. (We added the tofu block for the vegans.) I will get this again next time we are feeding a crowd. I have also tried and loved the poke bowls and the bubble tea. The tea can be ordered with less sugar and the phone app is easy to use. Good quality, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

This is one of the best places to get boba in Marin. Luckily the line is short now! First of all, the food is absolutely outstanding, especially the boba. They have so many different flavors of boba that it's just too good! I always get the Milk Tea with Regular Boba 2x! Also I get the cucumber and avocado rolls, which are just amazing! This is a perfect place to have boba in Marin, definitely coming back here again!

Got there around 3pm and was told that a table for two would be about a 30 minute wait, so it was not as bad as we thought it would be, considering that the whole parking lot (which was probably the only downside; it being made of gravel and without distinct parking designations making finding a spot incredible difficult and annoying) was full. The inside vibe was great, with tons of people drinking/eating and having a good time. When we got seated, we ended up ordering just a few oysters and a 3pc fish and chips. The oysters were pretty good and fresh, with a great vinaigrette on the side to pair with them. The fish and chips, however, were the obvious stars of the show. The fish were nice and golden, with a very crisp texture, and more importantly large and generous. The fries were nicely seasoned and plentiful. The fish was really tasty (you can choose the type of fish depending on what they have on hand, and some cost extra between $2-$10. We chose the standard option for the day: Rockfish), easily one of the better fish and chips I have had - just an incredibly simple, but well executed dish. While the tartar sauce was a good pairing, the real standout pairing was Hook Fish's own carrot habanero hot sauce with the tartar sauce and the oyster vinaigrette. I have never had something like a carrot based hot sauce, but it really works by contrasting the spiciness of the habanero with a slightly sweet carrot undertone. Strange, but it gave the classic fish and chips a unique twist that sets it apart from the competition. While eating we saw tons of different dishes fly out the kitchen as well, such as poke burritos, large portions of chips and salsa/guacamole, and fish tacos. After the experience we had that day, we will be forsure making another round back to Hook Fish to try some of their other options. Their fish and chips are a must.

2.5 STARS kuma cafe…read moreis a small cafe serving quick bites and boba, conveniently located in downtown san rafael. even though it's in downtown san rafael, i've never had trouble finding street parking nearby. since you order on a tablet, there's not usually anyone behind the counter until the food comes out. it seems like there's only one person working, so it can sometimes take a bit for things to come out. i usually order online for a quicker pickup, although it's slightly more expensive. there are a few tables inside, but it's really a to-go place. - egg sandwich w/ salad (2.5/5): i love japanese egg sandwiches, so i really wanted to try this! the sandwich had a good kewpie mayo flavor, and it was slightly sweet. i enjoyed the flavor, but the sandwich was too wet and messy to eat. some of the mayo was dripping out of the sides. there were also small bits of tobiko and cabbage. it wasn't a big sandwich for the price, but it did come with a salad that was topped with a good sweet and creamy dressing - spicy tuna sandwich w/ chips (1/5): literally like canned tuna with some spicy seasoning, although it wasn't super spicy. it also had some thick slices of cucumber and red onion. the chips were kind of stale, and they tasted like they were supposed to be ruffles or lays salted chips. this was pretty disappointing, and i'm not sure why it cost that much - poke (2.5/5): pretty standard, and an okay portion for price. they offered all of the basic ingredients and different kinds of fish. my bowl didn't have a lot of fish in it, but they did give me a lot of tamago (sweet egg), which made up for the lack of protein. i ordered the soy house sauce, but it reminded me more of a bright ponzu. honestly, the ingredients didn't really taste the freshest, but i thought it was fine and the best food i tried here - jasmine rose milk tea (1.5/5): strong rose flavor! it was still pretty sweet at 50% sugar, and it got overwhelmingly sweet by the end. i usually finish drinks, even if i don't like them, but it was hard to finish - sando brown sugar milk tea (4/5): my favorite milky drink i tried! it had a pretty good black tea and chocolate malt flavor. i really liked the crunchy texture of the malt topping, although i think it could've used a little less malt and more drink. i thought this was very unique! - lychee dragon fruit (4/5): like a light lemonade! i didn't really taste the lychee. the dragon fruit flavor was subtle, but it was definitely there, especially at the end with all the dragon fruit bits. it came with lychee jelly, which made the drink pretty sweet - fizzy yuzu (4/5): literally a yuzu soda, which was tart and citrusy. it was a little too sour for me at first, but the yuzu flavor was great. i actually really liked the kiwi popping boba, which added some sweetness to the drink and curbed the tartness. the kiwi popping boba did taste like kiwi, and it was so unique! - momo peach iced matcha [seasonal] (1/5): the worst drink i tried... there was so much peach jam that it tasted super sweet, and the jam didn't even have a strong peach flavor. the amount of jam also made the drink extremely goopy, even after mixing, and i couldn't taste the matcha at all. i didn't finish this drink the boba here was inconsistent - sometimes it was soft and chewy, and other times, it was on the hard end. for the drinks that came with a topping, they didn't let me sub out the topping with something else. i would've had to pay for an additional topping in order to change it. overall, i'm not really a big fan of kuma cafe, but there aren't that many options in san rafael. compared to oddcha, i think kuma cafe offers more unique asian flavors, like dragon fruit or yuzu. when i'm working near downtown, i'll still stop by to get my boba fix but will head somewhere else for lunch.

The lady working there (an older woman) was just the sweetest. She greeted us with a big smile, welcomed us in, and even thanked us for stopping by. It really made the visit feel extra personal. We tried a few drinks: the Mango Fresh Milk with boba was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet which is perfect for a hot day. The Iced Matcha with boba was smooth and flavorful; I loved that it actually tasted like real matcha. I did ask for less ice, which oddly came with an extra 85 cent charge, but honestly, it was still worth it. My daughter got the Kuma Blue Cloud Raspberry, which was creamy, fun looking, and caffeine free! It's definitely a nice spot to grab a good drink and relax for a bit. The only downside is that they don't have a public restroom, which was a little inconvenient. Still, we'll definitely be back for more drinks and that friendly service!

We were hungry and in a rush to get to our boat rental and didn't even notice the specials. Everything was great especially the white chowder, fish tacos, and soft shell crab bao tacos, except the pasta con vongole was too salty. After looking at the pictures we decided we have to come back on Saturday. On Saturday the wait was 50 minutes, and the line went all the way around the fence. So many of the specials including the whole fish, which we went back for, got taken off of the list while we were waiting...tragic. If you're going on the weekend beware!! We ate in at the restaurant this time as we didn't have a reservation to get to. The outside was pretty hot and there's some seating inside and also in an adjacent room that nobody seemed to notice. We were still able to get 2 specials: rockfish ceviche and dumplings. The dumplings were so good - their homemade chili sauce is sweet and a mild spicy that builds. Rockfish was a bit lime-y, but a delicacy nonetheless. I would definitely come back on a weekday to enjoy the specials again!

Otherwise the food here isn't particularly interesting, and wouldn't have been worth writing about except that on a recent and particularly cold, wet evening I ordered a bowl of my ultimate comfort food, clam chowder. What arrived was such a major departure from the expected I had nowhere else to air the case, so now here we are. What arrived at the table was essentially a kind of thickened clam broth. Not flour & water library paste thick. but with the right pasta would have been an ersatz linguine alle vongole (less actual clams). Or adding potatoes would make it the soup of the day which I've been noticing more often on menus is termed "potato chowder". (about this last I'd like to take issue: how can a thickened potato soup rightly be called a chowder given that in traditional chowder recipes the essential ingredient is in fact potatoes (no? ask google). I figure to a marketing kind of mind calling this bland goo a chowder lends a certain cachet that mere "soup" lacks, for whatever that'$ worth) Where was I? oh yeah, i should add that neither potatoes nor pasta were in this clam soup, but to avoid a claim that the order didn't meet the "clam" description, it did include clams. However the clams were all in shell, half-open and floating or submerged in the broth. Not what I expected and definitely messy to fish them out. And of course, it's a chowder so where were the potatoes? But the clams were fresh and with enough sourdough to add the necessary carb load I decided on this cold wet night not to make an issue of this. So if you didn't complain, well you must have had no complaint... except I did. The bowl of clam chowder I was served looked nothing like the customer photo posted somewhere on your yelp page. I'll just stay with salads.
