Perfect way to get your a la carte Hawaiian needs met. Just needed some macaroni salad and, lo and behold, it's potato macaroni salad! Best of both worlds! The large tub is a little less than ten bucks and is about 5 cups of amazement. Saw this last night when I was at the Pub, Decided to come try today. The Menu is traditional Hawaiian BBQ, with a fusion twist. Oh and the place has Hawaiian pictures, Magazines and a Hawaiian theme, but Mexican music playing.. um ok I inquired about the Chicken and Curry Katsu about the spice, to which was told not at all. So for $11.99 it only comes with Rice( no cabbage or Mac salad) um ok.. I also got 4- spam musubi (they add egg) $2.98 each, chicken nuggets-$4.99(7) and a Coke for $32.00 um ok.. The katsu isn't curry, it's Katsu chicken and Curry rice.. I read it as a spicy chicken Katsu, I was wrong... the Katsu tastes good, not a very big portion but it was good. The curry chicken is put on the rice. It wasn't very good and being on the rice, I didn't get white rice to eat from my Katsu Sauce. I ate the Katsu Chicken but not the curry chicken as the flavor was bland and I don't like curry chicken. The Mac salad, is not traditional Mac salad, the elbow noodles were over cooked, the mayo was mixed in with masted potatoes. No flavor whatsoever as I didn't eat that either. Not worth it-$3.98... The chicken nuggets my dog loved I just wanted to try it, but L&L is still the best place to eat. Nothing compares, not even Nalus. I got the 2-item combination with BBQ Pork and BBQ Beef and my wife got the BBQ Chicken. Portions weren't huge, but the taste was amazing. The Potstickers are as well. Knock another one off the tremendous bookmark list! As I recently moved out this way I've been trying the local eats hoping to find a gem in the rough. Today I came to Aloha BBQ wanting some Hawaiian eats. I unfortunately strayed away from the typical Beef Short Ribs or Pork Spare Ribs. After reviewing their small menu of 20 or so items I opted for the WIKI WIKI NOODLES " CHAE" because I've never seen it at a Hawaiian joint. Korean isn't it? Chap Chae? "Clear glass noodles stir fried with broccoli, onions and carrots in a sesame-soy sauce seasoned with garlic and toasted sesame seeds. Your choice of chicken, pork, beef or tofu." Korean if you ask me, but nonetheless I went ahead and ordered it to see what may be Hawaiian about it. I'm not sure if it's my love for Korean food or what, but I couldn't hate on this even if it was not one bit Hawaiian.The glass noodles were squirmy and hold a lot of flavor. The stir fried broccoli and carrots give a crunch to the whole ordeal and the chicken adds yummy protein to the whole mix. For $6.75, the plate was pretty massive and thoroughly enjoyable. It was part flavor, and part fun as them gosh darn glass noodles were so hard to devour with a fork! The only thing Hawaiian about the meal today was the spam musubi I tried. If you look at my picture, it's like a giant whale! When they mean spam in between blocks of rice, they are not joking! Something unique about this musubi is that there's a thin layer of egg in it which adds more saltiness to it. This musubi however did not have any of the soy sauce which I tend to like with my musubi's, but it was still a bundle of salty goodness. In all, as probably the only "Hawaiian" themed restaurant around these neighborhoods, I wasn't thoroughly impressed partially by the item that I ordered, but also by their identity crisis. It's a blend of food from everywhere. I mean, why do they have ramen as part of the menu? I wish they had more Hawaiian food such as loco moco, kalua pork, or laulau, but it's 3/5 as what I ate today wasn't really that bad. read more

During COVID-19, my husband and I were really craving some Hawaiian BBQ. I ordered a curry katso plate with a side of macaroni salad and my husband ordered a chicken and short rib plate through DoorDash. The curry was mediocre at best. It barely had taste to it which...curry should have a kick of taste. I'm pregnant and I have been craving curry only for it to taste like eh. My husband tried his macaroni salad first and immediately told me that it was not good. Which is crazy because macaroni salad is the whole reason we eat Hawaiian BBQ. I opened my side and my husband said,"I suggest you don't even try it..." I took a sniff and garlic filled my nostrils. I took a bite and lo and behold, I felt this weird consistency of chunky and grainy balls of seasoning and the macaroni itself was drowning in it. I have been going here for over 10 years. I've seen owners come and go. These new owners, are so unfriendly! I have her exact cash, and she looked like she was bothered, so I said thank you. No response. When I went to grab more napkins she said I put a napkin in the bag. I said nothing. Then she responded as I was leaving, you're welcome. This is not the same restaurant as "Aloha Hawaiian BBQ" which is a chain. I guess my mistake for not noticing before ordering delivery. However i didn't care about that and am writing this review based on the food itself. I got a two item plate of pork and katsu. It came with rice, cabbage salad, and mac potato salad. Also got a spam musubi. The pork was not to my liking as it had a strange flavor. I expected a soy sauce/teriyaki-esque flavor, which it had. But it also tasted of oregano or something which I did not like. The meat itself was just ok. The katsu was too thin. I believe this caused it to be overcooked and stringy/tough in texture. Not good. The katsu sauce provided was more of a traditional Japanese katsu sauce which didn't blend that well with the other flavors even though i really like traditional katsu sauce. The mac potato salad was not bad though not as good as say L&L's or Aloha Hawaiian bbq's (the chain restaurant) mac salad in my opinion. The spam musubi was ok. It has a thin scrambled egg on it which doesn't really add to or subtract from the overall product. The portion size was ok but nowhere near as much as the regular sized plates (as opposed to the mini size) at Aloha Hawaiian BBQ or L&L (I haven't seen a place that give as big a portion as the Aloha Hawaiian BBQ chain does). Overall, I would not recommend this place and won't order from them again unless i hear they have changed their food for the better. read more

We've been coming here for years. Food is great. We love eating family style with a platter and a few other small dishes. Prices are very reasonable. Service wise, you feel like a guest and are well taken care of. They even give our little ones balloons, animal face kid plates and kid friendly utensils. We love the island music and Hawaiian themed decorations. We made sure to come here often during the pandemic to support them. read more

My wife and I ordered the triple combination plate with chicken katsu, bbq beef short ribs and bbq pork. Although we asked for brown rice, we got white; although we asked for steamed vegetables substitute we got the macaroni salad. But after waiting awhile for our order I didn't complain. The food was solid: the chicken katsu was breaded and crispy and tasted very good. The thin slices of beef short rib were juicy and tender. The bbq pork was flavorful. We also had the shaved ice for dessert but it was not the smooth shaved ice of Hawaii but was thick crushed ice. More snow cone than shaved ice. The restaurant is a nice place to sit for a meal. The reason for the 3 stars other than getting my order incorrect is the woman taking the order and serving the food is very brusque and borderline rude --- so much so you feel like you're bothering her by dining there. Aloha bowl with tofu is my favorite. The veggies are crunchy and delicious. The tofu is well seasoned. My order was prepared quickly.

Having recently moved into this area, I'm slowly trying out some of the local establishments. Although I'm only moving from about 4 miles away (Lake Forest) and I know most of the places around, you kind of want to get a feel of the new area. Came into Aloha BBQ to give them a try. Phoned in my order for take out. I ordered the 3 item combo with BBQ Beef, BBQ Beef Short Ribs, and Chicken Katsu, it comes with macaroni salad and another slaw type side. When ordering 2 sides that are Beef there is an extra charge. The BBQ Beef was decent, nothing special yet not bad either. The short rib was better, a little more char on it giving it a better bbq flavor. The chicken katsu was actually pretty good, still crispy by the time I got home and had at it. The macaroni salad to me was not that good, it wasn't bad, just too much garlic for my liking. I prefer no garlic and kind of creamy. The slaw salad was good. They give you a generous amount of rice which I love, cause to me I like rice with every bite of my meat. All in all, it was a decent meal, nothing like what you get in Hawaii, but for Orange County it'll pass. The customer service was great, the 2 folks I interacted with were both incredibly nice.
