The grilled chicken is incredibly tender, with the perfect char and sweetness ratio. The mild sauce is magnificent. Every time I order the sauce, I try to dissect it. I've had nothing like it. In my opinion, it tastes like a beautiful hybrid of Latin/Asian sauces. It has this sweet and spicy cilantro salsa like flavor. I spend countless minutes trying to figure it out. They are open during limited hours, making you want it more during times that you can't. It's an excellent meal for a quick and flavorful lunch. I want to start the review by saying I was born in Hawaii and grew up there till I was 10... so my review is slightly biased. There is a small parking lot in the back of the building which is a huge plus in LA. Service was okay - nothing great but nothing bad. Price ... this was a joke but like I said before, i'm biased. Musubis are $5+ which makes no sense considering every ingredient is cheap. The plate lunches my girlfriend and I got were "minis" and both $25+ just to find out the rice was really bad - I don't think they wash out the rice. I just found out that my favorite farmer's market booth, Aloha Catering Services, moved from their original Chinatown to a NEW and IMPROVED location near Echo Park/Historic Filipinotown, WEST of the 101 freeway (Take the Alvarado exit West, then turn right (north) on Beverly - then you'll see the white sign on the left side. They now have a parking lot in the back! Since Aloha Catering (they might want to change the "brand name" to Aloha BBQ since they now have a dine-in location) now has an outdoor patio, you can eat there, with socially distant tables, under the shade of the nice orange umbrellas, with matching orange cushions on the bench seating. They even have a fire pit on the patio! Dope! Make sure you ask for Hawaiian Sun drinks (Lilikoi Passion is one of my faves) and HAUPIA - the amazing coconut jello pudding type dessert from Hawaii. Craving some Hawaiian food, I found Aloha Catering on Yelp and was so glad. First of all, love love that they have their own small private parking lot, a rarity in LA. My husband and I tried the BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, and some short ribs. The bbq chicken had great flavor and was moist, chicken katsu was crispy and flavorful, and short ribs were tender with a sweet marinade. Since it was our first time, they were so nice to let us try all of the dipping sauces - loved the spicy habanero sauce; sweet with a bit of heat. Mac and salad was solid, I forget to order a slushie, which means I'll have to come back to try one. Oh! And they had an oxtail soup that was sooooo comforting - flavors kind of reminded me of pho - the oxtail was so tender, broth full of flavor. Service here is amazing. On another occasion, I placed an online catering order, but turns out they weren't going to be open that day. They called me and told me they had to cancel my order and apologized. And let me tell you about my experience: We moved to the area and always drove by this place so decided to check it out on a Friday for lunch. They have got parking lot in the back (small, but a blessing in LA). When we walked in though, person behind the cashier stand just stared at us without saying anything. We had to fish out a menu for ourselves amongst the thousands of catering flyers. Their menu is utterly confusing. Looked like wanted to save paper by jamming it in one place. Ordered Mini chicken teriyaki and Mini Kalbi plate. When i tell you that when they say its mini, yea IT IS MINI. something you would find on a kids menu. At least it tasted decent. Kalbi plate is $26.50 and it was not worth that price. Their mac salad tasted like it is one of those mac salads in plastic container from Ralphs. Kalbi was too fatty. You'd think for damn near $30, you would at least get a decent plate of food. I am incredibly disappointed. Ohno Hawaiin bbq has the similar plate for $15 and their mac salad is 3 tiers better. Someone in the review said this place is better than some local restaurants in Hawaii and that's hilarious. My review probably will get filtered or deleted. The plate was smaller than the palm of my hand. I didn't realize they made meals this small. They also forgot to include the mac salad. Not having it was like losing out on $8 with their price point. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality, amount, variety and authenticity of everything here. I felt like I was back on vacation in Hawaii. I had the mixed plate with the kalbi and shoyu chicken. Both were tender, flavorful and just exactly everything I'd hope they'd be. Even the mac salad was great! I also had the masubi with avocado and bacon. I don't know how they get the rice flavoring so excellent but it pairs perfectly with the other ingredients. Then there were the shaved ice and the lilikoi drink (the one they make there). Incredible and so authentic! Everything is imported! That's just the food but the patio is a really great spot and it looks great. Hidden gem for sure. I have been on the hunt for the best Hawaiian food in LA and I think Aloha might take the cake. I have tried quite a few Hawaiian restaurants in the area at this point, ranging from your widely known chains to your more hole in the wall spots. I stumbled across Aloha searching for what to have for lunch on a random Tuesday on Doordash (honestly I give them credit for this find). Although pricey, I think it is worth the money for the authenticity and flavor of each item I tried.
