I seem to get the same stuff every time: Aloha Teri Chicken or Garlic Chicken. I honestly think I come back for the Mac salad though, hahah. I I have only gotten food to-go, and never eaten at the restaurant, so I can't say much about the service. For to-go orders, I would generally wait 15 minutes before leaving my office to drive the other 10 minutes, and my order is often ready for pick up when I arrive. My main place to get Hawaiian plate lunches has been primarily the Renton location of L&L. One day, I had a hankering for a plate lunch but didn't feel like going to L&L. There are a few other eateries in the Renton/Kent area that offer this, so I decided to give Aloha Grill a try one day. Aloha Grill is located on the borderline between Kent and Renton. It is a short drive away from the Great Wall Shopping Mall and IKEA. It is about halfway between those two attractions in a strip mall full of eateries that is surrounded by business park buildings. This restaurant should not be confused with the similarly named Aloha Hawaiian Grill in Kent. The menu here is pretty similar to L&L with a few slight differences. It also has the same setup of ordering at the counter. The menu is reasonably priced. Most single entrees were $7.99, while many of the combo plates are priced at $8.99. Though the menu doesn't seem to offer the option of a mini plate like at L&L. Ordered the Opihi Man combo ($8.99) to go. This lunch plate consists of kalua pork and chicken katsu with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. I like that they put the macaroni salad on the side for takeout. It wouldn't have been as good if they put it in the plastic container as it would be warm by the time you got to eating it. The kalua pork and chicken katsu was served on a bed of cabbage. It didn't seem like the cabbage was doused with any sauces, but that was a good thing since it helped to soak up the juices from the pork. I thought this lunch plate was great. The chicken katsu tastes the same as in Hawaii and the macaroni salad has a nice flavor. The kalua pork was delicious, but I thought the version here was better because it didn't seem to be as oily as other places. Given the reasonable prices for Hawaiian plate lunches and the close proximity to Great Wall and IKEA, I would visit Aloha Grill for that reason if I am in that area and looking for a meal. read more

Great choice! My husband and I were driving around trying find a restaurant with outdoor seating. Because we have a dog. We came across the Aloha Grill. There were three cute outside tables with umbrellas and Hawaiian music playing softly. For dinner I had the Aloha Plate which was chicken katsu, hamburger steak patty over a bed of rice. Oh how I miss plate lunches! Being from Hawaii, I really miss my local food and I'm glad to find a place like Aloha Grill. They have a wide variety of plate lunch entrees. I ordered the garlic chicken and my hubby ordered the kalbi. Portions are kind of small. With plate lunches, they are typically such big portions, so I usually only eat half of a plate lunch. So I was kind of wow-ed when I was able to finish all of my food (I eat like a bird). The garlic chicken was not what I was expecting... When I think of garlic chicken, I think of karaage or mochiko chicken style with a garlic sauce/glaze over it. Not chopped up bits of chicken with no breading in a garlic sauce. It was kind of like a shoyu chicken, except it was bits of chicken instead of a whole piece of chicken. I was pretty disappointed because it was not what I am used to. It was okay and I finished it, but not what I had in mind and I won't order that again. My hubby's kalbi was pretty good. We also ordered sides of poke and haupia which were good additions especially since our meals weren't that big. Overall, its a nice place to visit whenever I'm missing home food. But it will probably be a place I'll go to if I'm in the area, I won't be making a specific trip for this place. Whenever I see musubi on the menu or pictures on Yelp, I already want to try the place. So I stopped by here mainly for that. I ordered the Spam Musubi and the Spam Musubi with Egg. I also decided to try the Yakisoba with Chicken, because the picture of it on Yelp looked really good, and ordered the Tuna Poké with Rice for my boyfriend. Well, the musubis were good, but my yakisoba didn't look as good as the Yelp picture, and didn't taste as great as I thought it would. The texture was or got a little mushy, maybe because I took some time to eat it by taking it to-go? The poké was a little different from other places, and it had a nice little kick to it. But my boyfriend didn't love the poké. I would like to try something else off their menu, maybe I will have better luck next time with something else. read more

Food is good but I was so so disappointed to see that the staff didn't have gloves or masks on. Our cashier went from the register, handling our payment, etc. straight to the kitchen. He proceeded to make spam musubis with no gloves, no hand wash, etc. The Kalua pork with cabbage was flavorful and I'd order it again if I were to come back. The chicken katsu was lacking; their katsu sauce is good but their chicken has a fake meat texture. This is one of our favorite takeout places in the area. I love the kalua pork and my husband likes to get the opihi man (kalua pork & chicken katsu). Instead of the Mac salad side, I got rice instead, but my husband enjoys the mac salad. You can choose from 3 housemade sauces to enhance your meal. The katsu sauce and habanero sauce are both fantastic. This time I tried the manapua which was like a steamed meat bun. I really enjoyed it and plan to get it again! I had the grill mix plate for delivery from a delivery app, and even though I rated it in the app, I had to come here as well. The food, despite Hawaiian food being one of my favorites, was bland and tasteless. The kalbi ribs were practically rubber the Mac salad was especially disappointing (overcooked Mac noodles, tones of Mayo and the barest anoint of onions, no seasoning what so ever) and even the rice was overcooked and mushy. Food: I've gone a couple times and have tried: Loco moco Katsu moco Poke bowl The poke tasted not fresh but frozen. The katsu and loco mocos were just not outstanding in gravy, meat, rice, and so forth. Service: The few times I've gone, it has been inconsistent. Some days you get 'good' service and another visit, you question if the person is having a bad day and taking it out on you. Either visit, I did not feel like a valued customer. Facility: It is clean most visits I've gone. The one day it wasn't, it was a slow day and the table I sat at was sticky. Moved to another one and it was sticky. The lady behind the counter was on her phone. Can someone please wipe the tables down when they "aren't busy." Parking: Lots of it. Private lot and you'll find plenty of parking spots. Price: A plate runs about somewhere around $10-15 so you'd hope the service would be better than...mediocre. Overall: I should have gone elsewhere. No real reason to return because the customer service is spotty, the food isn't memorable and for what you're paying, I regret not either getting Thai food or even driving to Burger King. I recently bought a house nearby and being an out of towner, I wanted to eat something fun and enjoyable. First I would like to say that I love the people that work here. Although I don't know their names, they have been so kind every time I've come in and actually have shown the spirit of a true Ohana. I would rate their food a 9 out of 10 as some of their menu items do need a slight tweaking. I love seeing the mural on the wall as it reminds me of the Islands that I have been to and how much I miss. I am a huge loco moco fan thouroughly enjoy the katsu loco moco combo they have. I've only ordered take out and have been here about 3 times and each time the food has been great. I always order the Opihi man combo and the chicken Katsu always remains crunchy by the time I get home to eat it (15 minutes). The kalua pork is just as amazing recently I asked to get the kalua pork with cabbage it was just as good but with an extra crunch. My husband recently tried the Aloha grill mix combo which included chicken, beef, and rib he ate every last piece. The only reason I am rating 4 star if due to one of my pickup experiences, it was not that great but the other 2 had great customer service made me tip. Best part of the special was when he talked about the "Slippahs" and "Toyota Tacomas"! Man, I miss Oahu. Sometimes I crave Hawaiian food and luckily this place isn't too far away. This place deserves more than 5 stars. Hats off to the gentleman on duty at closing time on New Years Eve 2020. I had placed an order via Uber Eats to have dinner delivered to my son's home for my grandson's birthday. Order was placed earlier in the day with a delivery window of 5:45-6:15pm/PST. Order was accepted, kids were looking forward to a quiet night at home and not having to cook. At 5:15/PST Uber Eats sends me a text stating that the restaurant didn't accept my order. By the time I read the message, 5-7 minutes had passed so I looked up the phone number to the restaurant to inquire. Now I'm going into full panic mode because it's New Years Eve, I'm not familiar w/ Covid restrictions in Washington state or King County and no at home Plan B dinner plan. Apparently, the restaurant didn't cancel the order but Uber Eats did. The gentleman I spoke to said that he just received the message that we cancelled the order and that it was already prepped and ready to be packaged for pick up. I told him that I would call back in a few minutes to see if someone could go pick up their dinner. With everything squared away, the gentleman at Aloha Grill waited AFTER CLOSING the restaurant for my daughter in law to arrive to pick up their dinner. We travel to the islands quite frequently and my son said the food was legit. Even their little ones that are picky eaters ate everything!! This place is a yummy and cheap place for some quick Hawaiian bbq! The restaurant is pretty small, but their food comes out pretty quickly so you can get in and out. A lot of people also do take out, which is what I would probably do. Their food is all reasonably priced, usually under $10, and it comes with two huge scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. They have all kinds of meats, like pork, chicken, and beef. They also have loco moco, but it didn't seem super authentic, so I'm not sure how authentic of a place this is. I got the combo that came with pork, chicken, and beef so I could try them all. The pork was really bland and dry. It didn't taste that good. But the beef ribs were really tender and the chicken was well flavored too. I think it's probably the sauce that made them taste good, now that I think about it. The inside has some tacky decor. I'm not even sure if they're traditional drawings or just what people think of Hawaii. Regardless, they give you a lot of food (mostly rice) and for cheap too. Since it's opening, we've been meaning to stop in to try the local (Hawaiian) food (kau kau). We live just up the hill & pass by nearly everyday. Well, today we finally did it. Upon walking in, we told the person behind the counter that we were from HI & was wondering who the owners(s) & cooks were. Real local style yeah? Eh, we might be related! LOL :-D A gentleman came from the kitchen and introduced himself as Ken (owner & cook). I asked him, "What's a hauoli know about cooking Hawaiian food" (LOL, just joking). We struck up a conversation, introducing ourselves. I inquired as to how he prepared his Kalua Pig (pork) & he presented us with a small portion for a taste test. Ono! (That means good in Hawaiian). Moana (my wife) ordered the Hamburger Steak with onions, rice & Mac salad. I had the Diamond Head Mix consisting of Teriyaki beef, Chicken Katsu, 2-scoop rice & Mac salad. Sorry, no photos. We were so hungry we ate everything before we thought to take pictures. Ken brought us a small sample of his version of Saimin (Japanese noodle soup) and we found it to be quite tasty. The noodles were al dente, just like they should be and the broth was great: not to sweet, not to salty, but just right. Gotta be Hawaiian to get that. The Hamburger Steak had a nice char to the outside, increasing the taste to the burger. Our only suggestion would be to add Shoyu or something to the gravy to brown it a bit more (Hawaiian-style). The Chicken Katsu was great! Panko batter not too heavy and cooked just right (better than L&L & Aloha Hawaiian Grill). The Teriyaki Beef was tender and oh so tasty (tasted more like Kal Bi). The Mac salad was spot-on. Then we met Christine (Ken's wife) who is Korean (from HI). Now we know where all the 'flavors' are coming from. Both Ken and Christine were gracious hosts and spent a lot of time talking with us. Christine even shared a recipe for Korean-style Daikon Soup with us, as I've been trying to make it, but without any luck thus far. (Bought some Beef Brisket Bones on the way home). Hint? I would have given Aloha Grill 5-stars, but they didn't have Primo beer. Nah, nah, Just joking. Almost forgot to mention, when we walked in, Brother IZ was playing on the in-house music system. Hawaiian food at its best. This meal had me reminiscing about the Aloha Mixed Plate in Maui -- authentic and fresh. I had the Aloha Grill Mix to try a little bit of everything, and the wife had the Kalua Pork. Both were ridiculously good. My meal had the Teriyaki Beef which was tender and flavorful, along with the chicken which wasn't drenched with sauce. It was just marinated and cooked well to keep its tenderness. The short rib may have been my favorite. It's kalbi style which will always have a warm spot for my soul. Amazingness. The wife had the Kalua Pork which was really flavorful. The chef told us they marinate it for hours and then shred it. Not disappointed at all. My wife is overly emotional with food so there was a lot of "OMG" and "OMG this is soooo good" and then the closing of "I just am not ready to be done!" All sentiments of satisfaction. Today was my first time trying this place out. My husband and I were craving Hawaiian Food and compared to other Hawaiian Food restaurants nearby, this place had better Yelp reviews. For those in the Seattle area who care about food health scores, you'll be very happy with this place. Their food score is Excellent. When I came in to pick up our food, the place was very clean and the service was really friendly. They gave you as much sauce as you'd like, which is awesome!! Food wise, everything tasted really good. I just came back from Kauai a month ago and thought their Chicken Katsu was better than the food I had on the actual Island. Only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because we could've used a little bit more rice than what was included in the meal, but then again, we just love rice! Really impressed with the service and the flavors in all of the food here! We've had the teriyaki beef, and chicken, and the pork (with and without cabbage- both delicious). They're all really good!
