We were in town for just one night. Being from Hawaii I always want to get Hawaiian food if the city I'm traveling to has it. I found this place on yelp and decided to try it because of the reviews. I'm glad that I did. First of all I really liked the friendly service. They had Hawaiian music playing so I really felt at home. I let the guy at the register know that I was from Hawaii and he asked if I could taste the food before I left and give him a review. We had ordered the Aloha Family Meal. It comes with 7 scoops of rice, 4 scoops of Mac salad and 3 proteins. We had chicken katsu, kalua pork and kalbi. We paid an extra $2.99 to get the kalbi. It was worth it. I tasted everything and was happy that I chose this place to eat at. Everything was great. This meal is for 4 people but there was only 2 of us. We have a lot of leftovers for the plane trip home. I got some gravy to put on the rice and katsu. They have katsu sauce and curry sauce if you want. I tried the katsu sauce and it's a little different from Hawaii. The curry sauce that they have is a green curry. I really only like Japanese curry so I didn't try it. The rice that they use is calrose and this is what's supposed to be used. I spoke with the owner Andy and he was very friendly. He ended up giving me 2 spam music. I can't wait to eat it on the plane. Comfort homemade vibes with friendly staff I would call this a 4. 5 stars if you have the proper expectations. The food isn't going to blow you away. It has more a homemade touch to it versus the classic restaurant overflowing with flavor and fats. The smokey BBQ flavor and tenderness were great. The BBQ short ribs came in next, a good mix of fatty but doesn't stand out. The chicken katsu is lighter fried than expected but still is crispy. Again doesn't stand out. The spam musubi surprisingly was disappointing. The rice was mushy and there was no sauce between the spam and rice and there was a lot of rice so the flavor to rice ratio was off. Ordered the 3 meat combo, got the beef, short rib and the bbq chicken. I would say over all the food is not super flavorful but it also doesn't have a lot of fat and oil. The bbq chicken was cooked good again the flavor is not wow but good. The beef was ok but the short rib was pretty good even if it wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped. I really enjoyed the macaroni salad it's super creamy and just enjoyed it overall. I enjoyed my plate but not sure if I'd order again, but if I do I would definitely order a sauce to add to the meat. read more

The highlight of the meal, surprisingly, is the mac n cheese salad on the side, that offered a refreshing break from the heaviness of the meat. The spam musubi was also pretty good, especially if dipped in the bbq sauce. Hawaii is def on my list of places to visit, so when I discovered this rest. I had to try it out. The only Hawaiian food I've had is poke & I'm not a huge fan. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ chicken (comes with rice & macaroni salad) and a side order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were good, standard nothing to rave about. The chicken (the star of the show) was really good. It was grilled white & dark meat and it was so well seasoned. I really don't know what to compare it to because it was a different flavor than anything I've experienced before. The macaroni salad was also good, it was light and paired well with the chicken. Only thing I I did not like was the fact that the BBQ sauce & sweet and sour sauce are sold separately. As far as Hawaii local food authenticity goes. 200x more authenticate than Hawaiian bros for example. Food similar to L&L for us locals. However if you're in this part of Dallas totally recommend. Just moved here from Hawaii (Feb 2022) which I worked as the General Manager at a world known Hawaiian BBQ place. I was excited to see some local food spot here in Texas. I ordered the bbq mix and lumpia's. I was so upset with my first bite of kalbi it had no flavor. It looked marinated but it wasn't. The rice is good, Mac salad didn't have any flavor, but on the island that is always a hit or miss. The lumpia did the Filipino great justice!! Buggah was ono ono!!
