Lots of vegetarian and vegan options! Would love to see all curries and tom kha and tom yum offered vegan in the future. Still a large selection and easy to order vegan as they already understand it all and is labeled what you can order on the menu vegetarian or vegan or gluten free. Large portions and excellent food. The ambience is nice with beautiful Thai art featured around. The container to go, straw and sustainable paper bags were all thoughtful in being more sustainable or at least recyclable. Food came quick. Service was friendly and good. Definitely will be my new Thai go to restaurant! Have been here in the past but more impressed now. They will be seeing me more often. :)
We stopped here for lunch and we were seated quickly. The restaurant was moderately busy, but the noise level was low enough to make it easy to hold a conversation. They have a weekday lunch menu that has a good variety of dishes, which seems fairly priced. The food was very tasty and served at the appropriate temperatures. The service was good, but we had to ask for refills for our water a couple of times.
I recently tried AltThai in Arlington Heights and had a great experience. The food was really flavorful and everything tasted fresh. We ordered quite a few vegetarian dishes and honestly enjoyed all of them. The fresh tofu rolls, spring rolls, tofu satay, veggie pot stickers, and veggie egg rolls were all really good starters. For drinks, the Thai iced tea and mango nectar were both delicious. For entrees, we tried the mixed vegetables rice dish, basil fried rice, Pad Kee Mao, and Panang curry. Everything was well seasoned and full of flavor. They also have live jazz on Sundays from 6 to 7:30, which is such a nice touch and makes the atmosphere even better. The staff is super friendly as well. Overall, a really solid Thai spot in the Arlington Heights area and definitely worth checking out if you enjoy Thai food. Will definitely be back!
Uncooked vegetables floating in liquid with some boiled duck, that was the taste of my dish that was called basil duck. Dim sum OK some very fishy, poor service. The decor was Thai, lots of gold and flowers, which was nice. Chardonnay room temp :( , yeah I can skip this place
My family decided to spend our Easter Sunday at Alt Thai in Arlington Heights. We were not disappointed. Just as you enter the establishment you are greeted warmly by the hostess and wait staff, as you see this beautiful floral arrangement of various-hued Orchids crowned with Bird of Paradise, right below this inverted pyramid of Gold Leaves! Exquisite! "Pooh" who was to be our server was gracious, polite, prompt and always accommodating. Then there came our food. We started out with my wife's favorite-Crispy Tofu. I ordered Fresh Spring Rolls and one of our sons ordered some fresh Papaya Salad. We were so hungry that I never got to take pics of our main course: Chicken Pad Thai, Pineapple Curry with Chicken, Green Curry with Beef, Crispy Basil Salmon, Hawaiian Chicken, and of course, as soon as I saw it, I had to order their Blue Crab Fried Rice! Everything was delicious. It had an overall superior quality about them that you could just taste, maybe because of the freshness and the quality of their ingredients? I definitely attribute it to the restos decor that definitely added to the overall complete satisfaction of the whole dining experience. The welcoming fresh flowers, the classiness of the design and decor of the whole place, the upscale ambience and the friendliness of the wait-staff. We will definitely be back! I can only compare this to a similar experience my wife and I had when we discovered this small, quaint Thai resto, of all places, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
This spring roll looks absolutely amazing but the taste is even better! Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delicious surprise.
Amazing service! Our server, Fawn, let us know the scoop on how to make the curry at home, which we really appreciated. She was so sweet. The food was AMAZING! Curry fried rice 10000/10 ! Panang curry had a flavorful spice and sweetness to it! Pad Kee Mao was so aromatic! Catfish curry was so good too! We got our food hot & very hot! It was date night and my wife and I decided to get Thai food. We landed on altThai in Arlington Heights. I made reservations for 5:30 PM through Yelp and it was very easy. When we arrived it was not very busy in the restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately. Wile looking through all the menu options our server took or drink orders (Coca Cola for me and a Green Iced Tea) and appetizer order. I wanted to try their new Shrimp Sticks appetizer. We also ordered the Steamed Vegetable Potstickers. Our drinks came immediately and shortly after the appetizers arrived. The shrimp sticks were pretty unique looking, they were served in a glass. The pot stickers looked good and were cooked to the right temperature. After digging into appetizers, our server took our main dishes. We ordered the Pad See Ew (veggies) and Pad Woon Sen (tofu). The Shrimp Stickers were crispy and hot and came with a sweet and sour sauce. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly and was tender and cooked right. The pot stickers were yummy and had a sweet ginger sauce. As we were finishing up the appetizers, our main dishes arrived. The Pad See Ew wide noodles was covered with a sweet soy sauce and the broccoli, carrots, and peapods were crunchy. It started to get really busy and diners started to come in. I think 5:30 was a good time to arrive. . The Pad Woon Sen glass noodles were married with broccoli, carrots, peapod, onions, bean sprouts, mushrooms, egg and crisp tofu. Both dishes were good and had large portions. I really enjoyed the service and the food was great. I wanted to try more dishes so we will be back for sure. If you are in the NW Burbs and want some Thai food, I highly recommend altThai
I first went to altThai probably more than a decade ago. Since I don't live in the area, it's been awhile since I've been back but was able to revisit again recently for a friend's going away party. Since there were a good number of people, I had a chance to try out a few different appetizers including the crab rangoons, papaya salad, thai sausage, and chicken satay. For my entree, I ordered the beef Pad See Ew. My wife and I also shared a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee. For the appetizers, the one thing that stood out was how spicy the papaya salad was. Our entire table was chugging their water and thai iced tea after having it to deal with the spice. As a spicy food lover, the spice level was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it...so much so that I had high expectations for my Pad See Ew because I had ordered it extra spicy (more on that later). The rest of the appetizers were okay. I wasn't a fan of the thai sausage but recognize it might just not fit my preferred taste profile. Chicken satay was not bad, perhaps just a tad dry. Given my high expectations for the spice in the Pad See Ew after having the papaya salad, I did end up setting myself up for disappointment. My entree was nothing close and in fact, didn't feel spicy at all to me (my wife, who generally can't do much spicy, did confirm that it was made spicy, but just not to the degree that I wanted). The noodle flavors were good but the beef was on the drier side. I have another Thai place close to my house that somehow does their beef super tender every time. Unfortunately, both due to that, the cost, and the serving size, this was a miss for me. The Thai Iced Coffee and Thai Iced Tea were fine. It was in line with most other Thai places I've been to. Overall, I remember my first experience here was really good and would have given it 5 stars then. Based on this most recent experience, it was closer to a 3.5.
First time visiting ALT Thai, was recommended by my sister. The ambience of the place is nice and comfortable. The staff were wonderful and attentive. The food was yummy but the temperature of some of the food was not pipping hot as I would like it to be. Overall good experience, I'll be back and give it another try again.

We came by for an early dinner on a Friday night, we didn't have a reservation but should really make one for next time as they were getting super busy as we sat there eating. We started our evening with the dimsum set, it had a variety of dimsum rice rolls and they were great. There were two of each and made it super easy to share with my husband so we could share everything. The sauce that came with it did have a surprising kick as well. For my entree I got a beef pad Thai, and I ordered it mild, so glad I did because it certainly did come with a kick. A good one though, not overpowering but with great flavor. I also got a Thai iced tea that helped calm the spice. For dessert we got an order of the fried ice cream. It was huge we couldn't finish it but it was a nice sweet treat to wrap up the dinner. The staff was super attentive and refilled our water cups multiple times and were incredibly friendly when making menu suggestions. The decor was stunning too, a lot of small touches that made a huge different in each room. We will definitely be back to try other items.
We enjoyed it. We've been here a few times over the years. We were in the area from out of town and decided to have lunch here today. I had the Won Ton Soup (lunch) with Pot Sticker side. The Pot Stickers (2) were fried and were served with a thick dark sauce. I was surprised they were fried but I did enjoy them. The Won Ton Soup was pretty big. There were about 4 Won Tons, quite a bit of meat (I had duck), a lot of noodles, green onions and a lot of broth. I ate all the Won Tons and Duck, some of the noodles and some of the broth. I also added some seasoning that was on the table in a shaker. I enjoyed the soup. My wife had the Pad Thai. She said it was better than average. She's a Pad Thai snob so her rating is very good. We look forward to the next time we're in the area to eat at altThai.

It appears casual on the outside but on the inside they use casual tables but dim the lights to make it a nicer sit down restaurant. All the staff was very friendly! I thought prices were very reasonable! I loved the steamed chicken pot stickers and would order them again! They were cooked perfectly and had a nice amount of flavor. I liked the noodles in the pad see ew and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. However, something tasted off and I could not pin point what it was. Given this weird taste/texture, I would not order this again. I wish I could describe it, but all I can say is off. I'm not sure if it's all the time or my preparation but I'll try something else next time. read more

I liked it! The staff were pleasant and efficient even as they were very busy tonight. I ordered the cucumber salad "with beets and cherry tomatoes" and the noodle soup with duck "and sprouts". I would have liked them better if the cucumber salad had a ton more beets and cherry tomatoes. These were used as garnish only. And it was very hard to find the sprouts in the soup. But the taste was great and I will be back for sure. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for years. Their food quality have consistently been great. Last year they were only doing carry out and delivery but now they have opened up completely. We dined in here after over a year. This place gets very busy so recommend making reservations before going otherwise you will be waiting for a while. They have limited staff so service can be slow but they try to be efficient. The food is consistently delicious and comes in good quantity. We always start with cucumber salad and spring rolls that comes with sweet plum sauce. Their pad thai has good amount of peanuts and topped with strip of beet root. Pat se eew is very soft and delicious. Overall a great place to eat and happy that their dine is now open. read more

I came here with my son during a visit to Chicago. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic, and we enjoyed ourselves! We had the crispy salmon rolls for starters (yum!), followed by massaman curry with shrimp (delectable!) and grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce (scrumptious!). Finally, my son topped off his meal with deep fried ice cream (heavenly!). The ambiance was relaxing with nice music in the background which didn't interfere with our conversation, but unique enough to grab our attention. A small restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights with modern yet distasteful decor. The service was prompt and attentive. The atmosphere pleasant with the exception of jazz music and distasteful decor. It's difficult to connect the experience of Thai food with annoying elevator jazz music and decor which screams "we tried to show authentic theme but it costs too much" We got a couple of soups, rangoons, salmon, and duck. The soups were pleasant and subtle, the rangoons crunchy and warm, the salmon as well as the duck delicious and flavorful. The red wine was a mistake - it was an average Pinot Noir which didn't add to the experience. Overall, this is a very good choice for delicious Thai food. Be prepared to deal with jazz and lack of atmosphere to go with the culinary experience. read more

Cute interior, lovely decor and surroundings, and attentive and friendly staff! as for the food, we ordered Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Spicy Seafood Noodle. Tom Yum: 4/5 very flavorful, plenty of aromatic spices, it was the perfect spice level for us Pad Thai: 4/5 sweet and savory, nice peanut crunch and the textures of the dish complemented each other well. Pad Kee Mao: 3.5/5 quite spicy but there was little flavor of anything else. I wish there was a stronger basil flavor, but I loved the wide noodles and vegetables in the dish. Seafood Noodle: 1/5 it was sweet, but in a bad way. After a few bites, it was hard to eat because the sweetness overpowered other flavors. read more

Good food! Good food! Good food! Location. Location. Location. We wandered to a movie in Arlington Heights and after enjoying the film, looked for dinner. That's the location part. AltThai is just around the corner (thank you helpful theater people). As far as the good food is concerned, to test the restaurant out, I unfairly went with some favorite selections from another regular Thai restaurant that we eat at. AltThai held its own on Satay and Crab Rangoon--different as would be expected, but good. What was beyond good was their spicy fish. In my mind, I favor spice. I asked the server what he'd recommend spice wise. He smiled and said medium. The perfect recommendation. Of course, now I'm thinking that I have tepid taste buds. It clearly is an imperfect world, but the fish was very close to perfection. read more

I came home after a long day at work, was looking forward to dinner. I opened the container, and this is what the Chicken Pad Thai looked like. The noodles were dark brown, and it smelled like old oil. The bottom photo is what the noodles should look like. My husband said in his dish the noodles were all broken up and mushy, but he was hungry, so he just ate it. When he called the restaurant and explained, the response was- if you want the refund you need to bring the food back. Really?? Considering we've been loyal customers for a while. This is the best Thai in my area in my opinion. I've ordered from here so much its ridiculous. I usually get the same thing every time and the presentation is always top notch. Pad Thai is a classic must have. I always order an extra side of teriyaki sauce and peanut sauce even though they charge extra its worth it. Pot stickers are great as well. read more
