I typically order takeout from Alt Thai and enjoy the food very much. Tonight I decided to take my parents to dinner to celebrate my mothers birthday. At 8:40pm (20 min before close), they brought the iPad to the table for us to pay, we hadn't finished yet. They then turned the overhead lights on and cut the music. This is the second time we try this place. It's awesome. The food is delicious and the restaurant is nicely appointed and clean. Very cozy. We had the vegetable gyoza to start, those were great. Picture it similar to a spicy beef broth rather than a sauce or gravy as they call it. I ate the protein, noodles and veggies, and then ate the broth like it was a nice hot soup. It was perfect. The tone deaf idiots next to me were raving about everything they ate as if it was their first time in a restaurant after eating their mom's PB&Js for 25 years. I have not dined in but I have ordered food to be delivered. So i cannot comment on customer service at the restaurant. I ordered pad thai with beef, papaya salad (medium heat) and thai iced tea. I wish I got the papaya salad a little spicier because it was a little too mild for me. Other than that it was pretty good! Thai iced tea was great not to sweet not too bitter! Lastly, the pad thai was really good minus the beef. The beef had no flavor and it was very hard to chew. But the noodles itself was really good & full of flavor! Favorite Thai in the suburbs since I think their owners changed a few years back! All their food can easily made vegan. We often get the Pad Kee Mao. Basil fried rice. I like that they have the spice levels so the mild is perfect for our kids. My only issue is the that ordering something medium spicy has varied in the past so sometimes it super spicy and sometimes it's just medium. I would still give it a 5 star because I actually love spicy food but it does impact people who may want only medium spicy food. I ordered delivery from AltThai for the first time tonight and I am absolutely ashamed that it's the first time, in all my years living in Arlington Heights and driving past the place, that I've eaten there. Truly, I haven't had a meal this flavorful in years, and I'm glad I am home alone tonight because I'm sure the noises I made tasting everything were embarrassing. I got a small Tom Yum soup with chicken, medium spice, and an order of Pad Woo Sen with tofu. Both were absolutely incredible, piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and full of "good stuff" - lots of big pieces of chicken and vegetables in the soup and great fresh vegetables and large pieces of tofu in the Pad Woo Sen. The portions were generous, I have a complete serving of leftovers of both for tomorrow. Midway through the meal I wanted to stop and call the restaurant and sing praises to the chef, it was that good. I can't remember the last time I was moved to write a Yelp! review, but I literally put down my fork and logged in. It was less than a half glass and not good. Potstickers were below average. Tom Yum soup was ordered and arrived barely warm. Very disappointing. I had some high hopes for this place because of its 4 star rating but I was very disappointed in the taste of the food we ordered and how pricey the bill was. I ordered crab rangoons, pad thai with shrimp and green curry with tofu. The bill came out to be $34 for just these three things. The crab rangoons were very big and puffy but only had like half a tablespoon of filling in the middle and it also didn't come with any kind of sauce. The shrimp in the pad thai was undercooked and the noodles were extremely clumpy like they were overcooked. I wish the taste could've made up for it but it didn't. I've never tasted pad thai like this before. It was nothing close to the authentic kind. I'm giving two stars because at least the green curry with tofu was decent. It was on the sweet side but the taste was good and I appreciated the nice amount of tofu and eggplant that was in there. We've been going here for several years after trying many local Thai places, and this is our one and only now. The others don't compare. We usually go with the lunch specials and I prefer many of the rice dishes. You can order your heat level when ordering and there is always chilli paste and crushed red pepper on the table if you want even more heat. Tom Yum soup is wonderful, and all the entrees I've had have been great, and they are always consistent here. I've yet to have an off dish after many years of coming here.
