We love Amalga! The drinks, atmosphere and service are all excellent. We always recommend it to our guests.

Stopped in for a cocktail last night befor dinner. The place was packed and pretty loud - people seem to have a good time here. They have a limited cocktail menu apparently due to Alaska law that prevents them from servicing alcohol they don't make on premise, so a martini is out of the question because they don't make vermouth. I had the gin and ginger beer which was very refreshing and had great flavor. Everyone in our party enjoyed their drink. They have a nice ambiance, but could use a little more seating, we had to stand for a while. Bottom line: great drinks, pleasant surroundings, friendly staff. Good stuff! read more

This place is very pretty! Only stopped by for one drink while in town but definitely has a nice atmosphere and some good drinks- very interesting concept mixing liquor and beer. They also have some cocktails on tap which is pretty cool. read more

what a super cool find here in Juneau. It's a small distillery with a fantastic and innovative drink list concocted with their very own distillates. The gin and tonic was the best I've ever had I think. It's a well done retro space that was once a city building I think. Tastefully done, great staff, the only weird part is that they have a two drink limit, which is not their fault; it is some genius from the Alaskan government's brainchild. read more

You have to visit this place if you're in Juneau. Awesome distillery making their own gin and serving up a huge selection of cocktails. Large variety at affordable prices. Cool venue. Loved the mango seadonkey cocktail. I don't believe they serve food but great for a drink. Will definitely return again this week! Officially one of my favorite place in Juneau! I love gin and I came with my brother who isn't a huge fan of gin, but this place really changed his mind! We didn't know what to expect walking in, and found out all the gin is made in house (even their ginger beer). When we came in, we asked for some samples and the lady was SOO helpful, she gave us testers of everything! I got the Sea Donkey because of its unique taste. I realize after that it taste similar to a Moscow mule (hence its name?) My brother ordered the gin & tonic because it's the perfect gin / tonic balance. It's not too sweet and it's very smooth and soothing. It's more floral than woody. The ambience around is great, be sure to get a whiff of the jars with all the different type of scents. We stopped in during a recent vacation to Alaska. The cocktails we had here were great. Unfortunately, due to state law, you were limited to how much you can consume in a distillery and the staff is left with the job of enforcing that requirement. They make that clear when you arrive and it is a little off putting, no knock on them. It just isn't a super welcoming atmosphere when it's cold and wet outside and you just want a couple of cocktails or hang out for a while. Also to be fair the day we came in was very busy with six cruise ships in town so they might just have been slammed and the staff wasn't super engaging. It was more of a what do you want to order and move on kind of vibe. read more

I took a trip downtown Juneau with me. co-worker Carol. We arrive downtown early so a lot of places were open. The cruise ship arrived and all the store's doors open up. We had some cocktails at Amalga Distillery. We decided to have some cocktails before an early dinner. We both decided to have a Grapefruit with gin and tonic and my co-worker's 2nd cocktail was the Salty Dog a very strong ginger cocktail with a tonic drink was served in a massin Jar. My 2nd cocktail was the Rhubard gin & tonic with fresh mint. I love this place they had such an eclectic vibe and the drinks were reasonably priced. This is a great spot to have a cocktail before dinner. The cruise ships come in on Tuesday's so you want to get a head start on the passengers on the cruise ship. This place is incredible and their products are even better! I've been pre and mid covid and they are always committed to an excellent experience for their customers! Their gin is a fantastic gift to bring to friends and family or to just enjoy by yourself. It's definitely one of my favorite gins I've ever had. Don't pass on the canned cocktails either! If you are lucky enough to snag a whiskey, you are in for a real treat. Their designs on their bottles and cans make them really special as well. I was also impressed with their commitment to keeping things safe during COVID and taking precautions seriously. I'm not local but it's worth a pilgrimage just to restock your liquor cabinet. Who knew you would come to Alaska for great gin. The gin straight is smooth with mesmerizing automatics of juniper and botanicals. The one place it fell a little flat was the cocktails. While premixed cocktails can be okay, it was sad to see such a wonderful spirit not even noticeable in their gin & tonic. read more

Hip place with delicious drinks! We stopped in here on Friday afternoon and aside from a small party, had the place pretty much to ourselves. When we swung by again later, it had definitely picked up with lively conversation and socializing! My friends had gin and tonics and I had the strawberry and ginger beer combo. All of them were quite tasty! We were also allowed to bring and eat our own sandwiches too (since they don't serve food here). To top it off, the bartenders were all very friendly and welcoming. This distillery was right across from our hotel and part of our group wanted to go for a look and taste. Truly, I was never a fan of gin. However, the gin they make there, is the exception to the rule. The owner talked to us as we were ordering drinks and told us that he was going to come by and let us taste the gin by itself. I was totally surprised at how good it tastes. He puts so much passion and thought into the flavors that went into his product. Two of the member of the group bought bottles of it. We noticed that it was for sale in other places around Alaska, too. As a side note, the bottles themselves are so pretty with the art on them. Who knew the old Municipal Light and Power building would turn into a great bar for Juneau? The owners choose a great place for a nice gin cocktail. I absolutely enjoy all they make. Had a great time with friends at Amalga Distillery!!! We were just passing by and decided to stop in. SO glad we did! The owner interacted with the customers; he definitely loves what he does AND he does it so well!! The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful! So much so, that we each had to buy a bottle to take home. The bottle is beautiful itself. Had to keep it to use as a vase, even though the gin is now long gone. WOW. Visited Juneau for the week and unfortunately discovered this at the end of my trip not earlier enough. Cocktails are sharply priced (compared to NYC prices by a long shot). Decor: I wish my apartment was decorated how the distillery is. Upon having 1 sip of the gin straight I bought an entire bottle (best souvenir I could ask for). I'm a huge fan of negronis and loved their take on it. This is a spot of solace in the cruise-y downtown area. Want all of the success for these folks as they opened a month ago! The passion that has been put into the gin as well as the distillery is easily notable. The bar tenders are as friendly as they are knowledgeable about the gin, cocktails and ingredients. The cocktails have amazing flavor profiles and are artistically crafted. I'm not a gin drinker at all but I was able to taste a few of the drink on the menu (which changes day to day and sometime within the day) and they were all delicious. I was offered a sample of the gin so I could taste it by itself and the flavor profile was floral and citrusy. Not anything like the pine flavor that I accustom to. It's delicious, and can be easily enjoyed on the rocks with a citrus twist. read more

Amalga Distillery has excellent cocktails, we ended up grabbing a drink here a few times on my trip to Juneau probably tied almost the whole menu. There wasn't really any one I didn't like. They also sell there Sea Donkey in 4 pack cans which I brought as a sovereign to enjoy when I got home. Really cool vibe and atmosphere, like the marble coasters it was a nice touch. They aren't open late, only until 8 but worth a stop if you find yourself in Juneau. read more

This is such a classy joint that it's a real shame we don't have anything like it back at home. First thing you'll notice is just how cool this place looks. From the floral wallpaper to all the other tasteful flourishes, you immediately feel invited to wanna stay for a while. As for their gin, it's definitely one of, if not the best I've ever had. I had mine served up in a greyhound and I certainly could've had a few more in the right context. From what I hear, at least one of the owners is a bona fide local who came back to open up the distillery after a brief sojourn elsewhere.
