Yummy solid Thai food!! I came here for the first time years ago with my mother. I don't remember the food we ordered, just that it was super salty. Years go by and I haven't been back until recently. Went in with a good friend for a catch up-gossip session and I was pleasantly surprised by the good food! We ordered the pad thai and the spicy fried rice. YUMMMM!!! I was a huge fan of the fried rice even though it was a touch on the oily/greasy side. Few weeks later and I went back in with S. He ordered the Angel Wings with Penang Curry and I got the fried rice again. Except I wanted tofu in my fried rice instead of chicken. Somehow our server got it confused and gave me the vegetarian version which was chock full of brocolli and random veggies. AND NO TOFU. WTF!? I wanted the regular meat version but use tofu instead of meat!!! Seriously was it that hard!? Food was good... service was good on the water-refilling part. When I asked for the chili tray, it took a good 15 minutes before it showed up. Easy going place with inside and outside seating. Large menu to chose from. They can make anything you order hot or mild. Presentation of the food is always a plus for me and they did a great job. Food was fresh and well made. I only had Thai iced tea with my salad and had couple of bites of my chicken. Next time, hopefully will have better appetite so I can try other things. Service is great. Amarin gives you good meat portions on itty bitty plates, which misled me & I was pleasantly surprised that we had leftovers to pack for lunch. Bonus: BROWN RICE for $1.50 a pop, nice & fluffy. Service: Holler at the hostess and make yourself known, she definitely gets overwhelmed with the crowds. Water service and refills are spotty, but who really wants ICELESS water anyways!?!? Environment: Loud, screaming children, lots of nosy neighbors that like to listen in on conversations b/c the tables are set a little too close for comfort. Chairs are nicely padded and pretty comfy backrests. Make sure you have a shirt under your sweater, b/c it's TOASTY in here. Food: -Fresh Roll w/Roasted duck, cucumber, lettuce, carrot Quite good, dip with chili or hoisin sauce, large strips of duck. -Honey Beef Portions big, not greasy, flavor reminded me of Korean Kalbi -Thai Muslim Chicken Red Curry Spiced right, sauce was nice & thick, loads of chicken & potatoes -Hoa-Moke fish Tender pieces of rod cod in a fragrant red basil curry sauce. -Shrimp Pad Thai Good, I liked how the noodles did not stick together & the tiny cubed fried tofu. Portioning is pretty small if you intend to make this your meal. Dessert: Fried banana, I would probably skip it next time: one banana split in half and then fried in THICK batter. No sauce, nada, just a measly scoop of vanilla ice cream. Even though the service was mediocre, I can overlook that because good service does not go hand in hand with Asian food. Service is great here. Came here on a Sunday night last minute since Dish Dash was closed and we were seated promptly. Our authentic Thai waitress was great. The fried appetizer - fried mushrooms, peppers and other veggies - is so good. They only have it at this location. The green curry was ok but tasty (and it came out in a skillet!). The tiger beef has to be eaten with the sauce. The pad thai was nothing special but consistent. Good portions and would come back. read more

My boy told me this was one of his favorite Thai places. My only question. Do they have beef noodle soup? Since moving from SF I've been missing Osha's beef noodle soup something fierce and I really wanted some warm beef soup. I yelped Amarin's menu, saw they had beef soup and my response? Heck yes! Shortly after being seated I began to notice it was quite chilly and I wasn't warming up. The table next to us even had their coats on halfway through their meal. As I began to get colder I asked to change seats to a table where we could sit side by side - and I could steal my boy's warmth. Sadly I was told, very matter of factly, "In case others come in we need to be able to give them the table." Uh... Excuse me? Your restaurant is empty but for us and two couples and you're worried about giving away the table? I see. But fine, okay. I understand. I think. Hopefully the tea I ordered will help. So I start checking the menu for this beef noodle soup I read about. Except... funny enough. It's not there. They have three types of soup. Two of which are spicy (coconut and hot and sour) but none of which come with... you guessed it, beef. But wait. The reason I said yes to coming here. The menus I saw on the internet. They said beef. No? So why pray tell did the menu on yelp state you have beef soup? Okay I'm done. We are going elsewhere. Can we have the check for the tea? ... Five minutes later, after being ignored, we stood up, flagged someone down at the register area and threw two dollars at it. We later went to hot pot next door and had an excellent time. I always have a great time here. Get the duck spring rolls and either the red curry or the supergreen curry. And cocktails are decent.

This is my default go-to Thai place. My standard order in Tom-Yum, Papaya/Mango salad and Panang curry. This time we tried the vegetarian combination appetizer sampler and it got over in no time. Took our parents to try this place and they loved the food. We ordered green bean chilli tofu and it was good too. The place is generally crowded, and the service isn't as quick as I'd like, but the food is good enough to make up for it. I debated between 3 and 4 stars and settled on 3 because the food is good and never disappoints, but the service is slow. read more

I've always enjoyed going to Amarin especially when I work and live so close. One of my favorite vegetarian dishes is the spicy eggplant dish but I was hoping for it to be more spicy. The dish was delicious but that extra spice just adds another level. The staff were super patient while my party ran late. Definitely going back to try other dishes. read more

These guys are the South Bay Thai Mafia. They took over this block of Castro seemingly and are slowly spreading their network through the area. I felt that the food was decent but just not exciting. It's hard to find really good Thai in the south bay so I suppose it's acceptable if you have to fill the void. They offer a soft shell crab appetizer which is probably the only thing somewhat unique here compared to other places. Just not understanding the huge fondness for it however. read more

We had dinner here over the weekend. The restaurant is very cute, as is the front outdoor patio, and the back patio. The back patio has heaters. The service was great. I drink a lot of water, and they kept refilling it quickly! Two words: FROZEN VEGETABLES. My first bite of my Green Curry with Chicken was cold. The curry was lukewarm, and the vegetables were definitely not cooked. I asked if they could heat it up a little for me, and they did (but they definitely were not happy about it). They basically just nuked it in the microwave and brought it back. Stopped in for lunch today after completely forgetting the last time we ate here. Amazingly, we ordered the Honey Beef again! This time, it was inedible. More like beef jerky then beef strips. Shrimp Pad Thai was better. The rice was served in a foil roll and was dry and also inedible. Obviously pre cooked and kept too long in a warmer. The soup was warm water with some chopped celery (I hope that was all) floating in it. When the still full bowls were collected, I thought they might ask if something was wrong. That didn't seem to be a concern. It is pleasant sitting outside but no more dining out without checking yelp. I was amazed at how full the tables were. A lot of people eating and talking on their phones, so I guess they don't care what they are eating. I do not recommend. read more

Mediocre food, poor service. We went Saturday night with a reservation for 15. There were at least 2x10 person large tables and 3x 4 person tables in a small area with barely room to pass. Service was poor at best. Our food was brought at different times. Some people were finished eating when others were receiving their entrees. I met a gf here for lunch during the week. It was packed at the seams. Good thing we came in a timely fashion and there was only two of us. The service here is friendly but not very attentive. I also did not appreciate them not filling our water glasses but hovering around near us chatting after we finished lunch, paid the bill but continued talk more- the classic insinuation of "please leave now". What about the food? I was mildly impressed by the mango shrimp salad. It was pretty good and abounding with fresh flavors and ingredients but wasn't popping with Thai flavors. I ordered the coconut milk soup with chicken. That is more like chicken and noodles in a thick fettuccini sauce. The coconut milk flavor was good, but it had more of a saucy viscosity than soup- a little much for me to consume. I probably won't return. Good Thai Food on Castro in Mountain View. I typically get the Pad Thai here, and would ask for it spicy. There is some inconsistency regarding the word "spicy." Sometimes it was very spicy, and other times, very mild. However, the food is consistently tasty. There is nothing special about the service, but for a quick lunch Amarin satisfies. Probably one of the better restaurants on Castro. The other dish that is a winner is the Pinapple Salmon dish. It is only on the "dinner" menu, but it was a favorite for the group. read more

It summed up my entire experience with Amarin: good food, that is quickly forgettable. I definitely think it wasn't made freshly, it should have been made already, and then heated or grilled a bit before serving us! House Special Fried Rice was horrible! The chicken still has the raw smell, too many pineapples, 3 shrimp, too many peas and big slices of onions! Seems like they are trying to cut down the actual ingredients and replace them with crap! Disappointed! Ambience: lots of people, lively environment with fully lit up lights! The table which we got was bouncy and was annoying! Service: well received, well served and quick with the check! They did a fine job! No complains with that! The two stars : one for the service and half for the ambience and half for the satay! Not sure how the other food tastes like! Still haven't found a place to beat my favorite Thai restaurant. Amarin isn't terrible but certainly lacks the solid quality to even deserve four stars. The order: Coconut soup Beef with spinach Mango special chicken Prawns curry (served in a carved out pineapple) honey pork Chicken pad Thai The good: The flavors were okay but dishes were best when they were complemented with fruit like pineapple or mango. Their presentation was creative and made the dishes look more palatable than just a blob of food on a plate. The bad: Portion sizes were much too small for the price range. This is the kind of place people will visit not to eat good Thai food but to eat Thai food and pay too much for it simply for the novelty of eating foreign dishes. Much of their flavor was heavily watered down or creamed down to mask the Thai spices to be more palatable for those who are not used to these flavors. All in all, a pretty pleasant meal. Things tasted good but not completely authentic. Service was a little weird...the lady didn't look too happy the entire time. Probably will be back unless I find another decent Thai restaurant along Castro. read more

I'm surprised by this place's low ratings! This place is always packed, but when I went there was barely a wait. When you enter, there's some really cool floor seating tables to the left for big parties. We only had two people, so we had to opt for the standard tables. We got the mango salad (yum!) yellow curry and thai iced tea. All of them were really good. This place just loses one star bc its preeeetty pricey, so if you're not trying to make your wallet bleed you might wanna try somewhere else. read more

This place is great. I took a good friend to this place the other day for a belated birthday dinner. The decor inside is nice and modern. It's fancy enough for a date. We both split a tofu and eggplant curry dish. We ordered hot and sour soup with shrimp in it too. I'm not cheap, it's just that neither or us were starving. Also, my friend was the one who made the suggestion to me since she knows i'm on a budget. The food was just enough for the both of us. The curry was great. I just wish they would've put more tofu and eggplant in the dish. There was hardly anything in there but sauce mostly! Also, I think they do charge extra for a side of rice. At least the soup came with a lot of shrimp. It was good, but not that spicy and I've had better hot and sour soup elsewhere. My friend said that she's been there once before and she thought he Pad Thai was to sweet. They have a ton of tofu and vegan options on the menu, so this is a great place to eat at if you're a vegan, vegetarian provided that you like tofu of course. This place was great. I originally was looking for Thai downtown and used "outdoor seating" as a filter and this place did not show up. We were going to try a burger joint but the wait was super long. This place was across the street and seated us right away. The waitress was very friendly. I wanted to order a drink from the bar but they didn't have a bartender so they could only serve beer and wine. They were super quick to bring out our food. And at the end they comped my drink because they couldn't serve me what I originally wanted. They definitely didn't have to do that. Great service and the food was really good. I had the green curry which was wonderful. My brother had BBQ beef with honey sauce and my mom and aunt had the pad Thai. Everyone said the food was really yummy. I felt like Thai food one day and decided to try this place out since it had decent reviews. It was pretty basic. Walking in, you see the traditional? Thai tables where you have to take off your shoes and sit. Since we were only 2 people, we got a normal table, after passing one small room, into a larger room and literally squeezing between people because there wasn't enough space (fire hazard?). The tables are pretty close together, as we had to squeeze to get into our seats as well. Now for the food: I ordered the chicken pad see ew because it's usually the true test of how authentic they are (jk!). It was nothing special. Just tastes like normal pad see ew. I kinda wish they had hot sauce available on the table. I don't know whether I'll be back, but I guess if I wanted mediocre Thai food, this is the place. It's the only Thai restaurant on Castro in the downtown area, and there's usually no wait. It's alright as far as Thai food goes. There's nothing that really stands out, but nothing is bad either. I appreciate it mainly for the lack of a wait on most nights as well as for the changing table in the women's bathroom. It's not the best thing ever, but it's a legitimate changing table. That works for me. There isn't a changing table in the men's restroom. read more
