Service was great, food was good. Got the bolognese,ziti was a little under cooked but the taste was still delicious!

If you are looking for a delicious authentic Italian then this is a place for you. My wife and 2 kids visit from England dined here tonight. We had the best meal here during our trip to New York. The food and service will not fail you. Everything was delicious .. we ordered spaghetti and penne for the kids and had the best arribiata ...it was simply divine. Charming neighborhood find with authentic, elevated Italian fare. Without pretension. Atmosphere is at the same time warm as it is polished, as are the staff who are professional, polite, and clearly well-managed. The owner knows his stuff and is a delight. Vigilant and generous with all of his tables. A reliable place to take business clients or a romantic date. They also handle large parties with complete skill, as I recently discovered. Favorite gems on the distinct and comprehensive menu include Burrata and Heirloom Tomato, Contadina and Bianca salads, Calamari Fritti, Branzino, Salmon, Broccoli Rabe...and the pièce de résistance: Meatballs! Food is not delicious and service is so bad. My pasta was over cooked and the tomato sauce was mehh. They were extremely rude and irresponsible: I'm vegetarian and I mentioned it when I was choosing my dish. There was a dish with pruccciotto and cream. I asked to remove the meat and asked if there's anything else non-vegetarian, the server said no, it's fine. I insisted and asked about the cream, he again reassured me it's fine. I continue insisting and asked if the cream has any fish sauce or lobster broth , suddenly he says yeah there's chicken broth in the cream, you can take the tomato sauce. Geee thanks. Not even an apology. Then we got the dishes, we were 6 ppl. The server approached to those who ordered pasta and offered cheese, except me. He just ignored me and went back to the kitchen. I had to call him to ask for cheese. Then we wanted to pay with credit cards and they fucking have a minimum of 25$ for a card?? My pasta and tomato dish was 19$, this is more expensive than more places, what are all these constraints? Also the restaurant was totally empty, it was us and 1 more table. The food is of great quality and very tasty. The ingredient is super fresh, from veggies to sea food. The price is so reasonable and the portion is great. The food is presented very well and you can see the effort put inside. This is by far the best italian restaurant to me around midtown and upper east side. It is spacious, and is a great place to bring family or friends for dinner. read more

Had dinner at Amata, which was formerly Fiorini. The new menu is much expanded to include more Italian classics and the food was exceptional. Healthy wine pour and grown up size cocktails.Friendly reception and excellent service with obvious oversight by the new owner/ management. Clean, spacious dining room, where diners can actually chat and hear the conversation. A smooth transition from Fiorini to Amata. A wonderful experience that I heartily recommend. read more

My husband & I haven't had such a wonderful Sunday dinner in a long time. The person who gave the horrible review is insane. If waiters really treated her so badly they would have been thrown out before the end of the meal. Obviously this person knows nothing about Italian food. Everything we had was perfect. Since the cavatelli is home made it was perfect. The meat was fantastic. All I can say is keep up the good work. It's so nice to have such a wonderful Italian rest in the neighborhood. read more

This restaurant was great. It was our 3 year anniversary and they went above and beyond to make it special. Even stopping down the restaurant to sing "celebrate good times come on". Based on other reviews we had high expectations for this restaurant, being an avid connoisseur of Italian food. The ambience was nice. However the service was not as good as it should have been for a place of this purported caliber. The waiters did not appear to understand or know their menu well enough to make solid recommendations and the menu was not transparent to indicate what the sides of a given entrée were. I ordered chicken scarpariello and was disappointed to see a clustering of overcooked small pieces of meat that looked like they came out of a deep freezer. I've had a lot of Italian food and I would've expected just a notch better for NYC. Still I would be willing to give this place another try... I can't help thinking the kitchen was missing the main chef or the waitstaff was new or ? read more

Had the most amazing and memorable dinner here with my family. WOW! It's hard to find authentic Italian food that tastes like it is straight out of your grandmother's kitchen. Chef Enzo is remarkable! When we couldn't decide what to start out with he made a delicious antipaste platter and also served us calamari with a hint of honey -- I am still dreaming about these! Came here after hearing some very positive reviews from friends and family. Went for dinner and there were somethings that got to me immediately. The first was all the house music playing in a Italian restaurant such as this one. Asked the manager who had a very heavy accent if there was an event going on and he bluntly said that he likes to play the music he likes. Got into more conversation with him and was really surprised to know that he had no idea about Italian cuisine.....Made me question what I was going to eat. The food was great and that is why I'm giving it at least 2 stars, the rest of the staff was nice and knowledgeable, this manager can definitely put off some customers with his rash answers and lack of knowledge. I dare you to ask him what al dente means, he does not know, and regarding the music, I don't know about you but I expect genuine Italian music for dinner with a romantic tone that sets the mood, if I want to party I'll go to another restaurant that has that kind of feel. read more

I must have gone on a bad night. I agree that the service was decent and the ambience lovely. The food? Not so much. The cold tomato soup with crab was very good. But the pasta with white clams and the risotto with shrimp and asparagus...both bland and colorless. Based on all the other reviews, I'll probably eventually try it again. But for now, I'll just watch from the sidelines. read more

First time at Amata last night. Always loved Al from the Palm and went knowing he is a partner here. Four of us had a wonderful evening. Nice open space which is not too noisy for a good conversation. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. The waiter was very helpful as this was our first visit and we all walked out thinking that we will be back often. Our main courses ranged from pasta to veal to chicken parm and a great NY Strip. All were excellent. This is the definition of a neighborhood gem, and given the location, will also see lots of business lunch traffic. read more

Great food and charming ambiance. I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with a group of friends on a cold and rainy Sunday. The spacious and cheerful interior, attentive staff, and terrific food made this a memorable experience. Our favorites: fussili amatriciana, shrimp scampi, the calamari appetizer, the asparagus gratinée, and the cheese ravioli, which had a distinctive and delicious tomato sauce. Had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at Amata last week. The service was superb, and the food was also delicious. Between three of us, we split the meatballs, calamari and octopus salad as appetizers. We cleaned the plates of all three, but my favorite was the meatball app, which was paired with a huge portion of peppers and onions. We shared two pastas as our mains -- the frutti di marre and the cavatelli with broccoli rabe and sausage. Everything was super fresh and perfectly seasoned. We were all so stuffed but made room for their creme brulee for dessert, which I believe they make in-house. Definitely a must-try! Overall, the experience was extremely pleasant. The servers were very attentive throughout the meal, whether it was refilling water glasses, taking drink orders, or just answering our questions in general. The front doors and windows open up, so it's a perfect place for dinner or drinks on a warm summer night. We'll be back for sure! read more

Fiorini's is under new management. The new chef specializes in southern Italian dishes and the new menu has all of the favorites. Three years ago we ate there a few times but the menu was like every other "international" style menu. The dishes weren't special enough to make up for the typical offerings so we didn't go back, even though the restaurant was closer to us than any other in the area. One Sunday night in early January on our way back from dinner elsewhere, we were surprised to see the lights on and diners inside. A note on the door said that the restaurant would be open on Sunday nights, which is our favorite night to eat out. Prices were comparable to other Italian restaurants in the midtown-East area. The lasagna special was delicious and the ricotta cheesecake was superb. We were told that on Sunday nights there will be both a la carte and family-style service. Great to know when our niece comes to town with her four children. The wait staff under the new owners is the same as before, courteous and attentive. The new Fiorini's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

I visited this restaurant to see if it would be suitable for a future corporate private function. The atmosphere was very nice. The wine cellar private room located in the back can probably comfortably seat about 40 people. There is a parking garage right next door where your parking can be validated for up to 3 hours. The place was very busy for a Wednesday night. The wine selection is somewhat limited, but we were able to find a moderately priced bottle of wine. The bar in the front seats about 10 people. The complimentary bruschetta and bread with olive oil was a nice start to our meal. I had the clams oreganata and they were tasty. My husband had the meatball appetizer. For our main course, I had the lobster ravioli special and my husband had the veal chop special. We both enjoyed our entrees. For dessert, we had the creme brule and cheesecake. Everything was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter Gino was attentive and I can tell you I will come back to this restaurant for both personal and corporate functions. read more
