    Patio seating is ultra cozy!

Winter wonderland in the cozy Ambassador Dining Room. Delicious food and impeccable service!

Ambassador apartment building. Restaurant is on ground floor.

I left Baltimore 15 years ago, came back for a work trip. For a city that sometimes suffers under inadequate leadership, it's places like ADR that do the real work of keeping the cultural reputation of the area intact. ADR has been open since 1997, operating in the first floor of the Ambassador apartment building on Canterbury. It's a block from University Ave in the Hopkins Lacrosse corridor. Having not seen my father since before the pandemic, he picked me up and suggested the meal, one of his regular haunts. First off, the building is really beautiful. I think we're talking depression-era tudor revival? IDK, I'm not an architect. So there's lots of dark wood trim, intricate plasterwork, large fireplaces. Very stately. Now the food. We ordered (1) the calamari, which was pleasantly sautéed in some kind of chili oil. No deep fried rubber here! (2) The lamb samosas, which were surprisingly light on the inside, not super heavy like the lentil ones can be. (3) The medium-spice special biryani, with chicken, lamb (awesome) and shrimp (awesomer). I need to emphasize that the shrimp in my biryani were absolutely huge. I mean those things were gigantic and succulent. Great experience with those shrimp! We both ordered the key lime ice cream for dessert. Dad told me there's a local place that makes the ice cream on spec for them. More of a rumor, but it is great ice cream. Key lime (and citrus in general) is a favorite of mine, and this ice cream holds its own very well against some other competition. When reading for this review, I found out that ADR was awarded best Indian restaurant for a second year by Baltimore Magazine. No surprises there, these folks absolutely know what they're doing.

My darling and I come here frequently for birthdays and anniversaries. It's a lovely romantic ambience. Excellent choice for a date if you like Indian food. We always get an order of samosas and my honey gets lamb or salmon, and I order aloo gobi. The samosas are delicious and my aloo gobi is always flavorful and hearty. My honey enjoyed the lamb vindaloo extra extra spicy during our last visit.

It is pricey but it's definitely a nice restaurant for big events or special occasions so I understand where the price is coming from! The food itself was alright. I had the Bengan Bhartha which had an excellent spice level at the medium level. I couldn't imagine getting the highest level! I also liked the appetizers too! The naan was a bit weird - it kind of reminded me of frozen naan I've had from grocery store but everything else was good!

Great atmosphere! Didn't expect to find a restaurant at the bottom of an apartment building. Definitely a hidden gem.

Great atmosphere and wine list. Food has gotten pretty bland over the years.

Smörgåsbord (noun) is a traditional Swedish buffet-style meal featuring a wide array offering a…read morevariety of foods and dishes as hors d'oeuvres, hot and cold meats, smoked and pickled fish, cheeses, and salads. This location is certainly gargantuan size for dinning hall, buffet counters and queuing for payment and waiting for table. The line moves moderately for payment and waiting for a table. There are some benches available for customers who are mobility impaired unable to stand for long times. Senior citizen and children discounts are available. My party experienced authentic Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. It was an experience with an open-mind without judgment. Dinner prices for one adult range $23.99 to $33.99 depending on the time of day, meal, and day of the week. Tax and a 12% service fee are additional, but beverages and desserts are included. I did obtain my sales receipt. The sales receipt is attached to a blue slip which upon meal completion customers are to turn over signaling table clean-up. Shady Maple Smorgasbord offers a 20% discount coupon for their nearby gift shop during meal payment. This 20% discount coupon, my party gladly utilized which is a very good marketing promotion to lure customers. Restroom facilities are large with a restroom lounge. The facilities' sink is very modern as it is an "all-in-one" sink golden faucet mechanism: L (soap), middle (water), R (hand dryer). Ergo, no excess soap is dripped on the sink counter for clean-up and no water will be spilled or splattered on the floor. I have never seen this modern sink faucet. I think it is a modern convenience innovation for progress with technology always improving. The food quality is good and the selection is gargantuan. I wished there were more meat opinions as Ribeye which contains the most flavorful cut of beef. Hanger steak is my default favorite. I also wished for more seafood opinions as shrimp, salmon, Tilapia or striped bass fishes. The vegetables were a good selection. I like the baby carrots which were boiled cooked soft and fresh. The red onions were extremely strong. I wished for Caesar salad lettuce as my default vegetable, but iceberg lettuce was substituted which did not agreed with my stomach. I did not see chicken. There were abundant baked potato of red skin and hash browns. I highly prefer potato au gratin, but to no avail. I was hoping for ice cream as dessert, but to no avail either. Nota Bene: Shady Maple Smorgasbord is family oriented style, ergo do not expect any alcohol. Lemonade, root beer, cola, soda, ice tea, coffee, hot tea, cold water and hot water are abundantly available as beverages. Disappointedly there is no ginger ale soda available as a beverage option which would greatly reduce my anxiety and motion sickness of being in a car for four continuous hours on the road driving. Shady Maple Smorgasbord also has a gargantuan gift shop adjacent on the grounds. This gift shop is old school traditional where tourists and non-Pennsylvanians (like myself) can purchase key chains, post cards, magnets, and T-shirts. Parking is abundantly available and free. Upon exiting our car the air had a high strench of horse manure to heaven! The noisome odor emanating from the nearby unseen horse stables made it difficult for my party to enjoy the grounds, amid the dangerous excessive heat wave of Independence Day 2026 holiday weekend. We were among the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The workers were nice from payment , seating , to handing out food. I haven't been to a buffet since pre covid and this made me feel like a kid again, and the quality of food is amazing because my stomach didn't upset and that's rare. I'll be back for breakfast but yes this is worth my 4 hour drive. Cherry on top is the different cultures there and they had a piano playing which is classy.

I had been here several years back with my sister but finally made it in again with my husband…read more Now that we live nearby hopefully we will come more often. You have a choice between AYCE or by the pound. I know last time I came I got AYCE but honestly I don't eat that much anymore, so by the pound is more cost effective for me. There also are two different prices based on whether you want BBQ + sushi with your buffet. (Sushi??? I'll stick to BBQ when going Brazilian.) I tried to sample small amounts of the dishes on the buffet and then got some picanha and another steak cut (maminha). Both BBQ cuts were very good - I liked the maminha more. (Fraldihna is my usual favorite, and it's kind of similar to the maminha.). They had a chicken with capers that was probably my favorite of the buffet dishes. The stroghanoff wasn't bad. Some of the other meat dishes on the buffet were a bit dry. I got a mystery empanada which turned out to be guava & cheese, if it had been warmed it would have been better. I love guava, but there was just a little small rectangle of guava paste in the very center; probably 80% of the empanada had no filling. Similarly, the cheese bread balls were cold and hard. Those need to be right out of the oven to be worth it. It's a shame, they probably were good when they were first made but they weren't by the time I got to them. The potato salad was ok but the balance of mayo to potato & other veg was off (too much mayo). I had some fresh fruit too. All in all, I'd definitely come back (I love the steak!) but I'd focus on the things I know are good rather than trying a lot of things.

We ordered pizza, and when it arrived it was cold. After the food was delivered, we again had difficulty getting anyone's attention to ask for water and later the check. While the food itself had good flavor, the lack of attentive service made the overall experience disappointing. There are other places to enjoy Brazilian food where customers receive much better attention and better food.
