I came here for dim sum and it's been quite a while. The hours seem to be more consistent these days which is an improvement. The food as always is decent - I had the noodles, scallion pancakes and chicken potstickers plus the sesame buns. Friends had the spicy pork rice and pork buns. There used to be more vegetarian options, but there are far fewer now. Service was ok but a bit slow given there weren't many people there. I suppose that keeps the food fresher! The iced tea was rather bitter because it had the tea still floating around in it. Seems they're still going through some post-pandemic adjustments. It's a cute little place and they have their own parking which is handy for this area. I will have to come back and give the sushi a try since it's been even longer since I've done that. read more

As he goes to his truck for something they come out telling if he doesn't move his truck they will have it towed. They did have signs that said only for their customers. But he ATE there. I told them in no uncertain terms what I thought of him . It almost turned into physical altercation. I could understand if he wasn't a customer and just used their parking lot for the business next door. But that was not the case. And their parking lot was empty. We were pretty disappointed in the service, speed, and food from AmerAsia. It used to be owned by a mother daughter duo and was great however it seems ownership has changed. We were there for over an hour and only got edamame and water. Not a single roll sushi we ordered. We ended up asking for our check and leaving. We got there, not realizing it, about 30 minutes before the sushi bar closed and they were still so kind to take our order and get our sushi to us. My granddaughter really wanted goyza dumplings. We were downtown at the science museum and found this place on Yelp, 1.2 miles away, so we thought we would give it a try. She had her goyza dumplings with teriyaki chicken and white rice, and was really happy. The other granddaughter tried the rice with egg and shrimp. It was not at all what she expected. It had a thick layer of vegetables and sauce on top that was not to her liking, and some tempura shrimp and veggies on a separate plate. We ended up getting her just some plain white rice. I had gotten a bowl of udon noodles with broth and fresh veggies in top. It was okay, but would try something different next time. I had wanted the teriyaki beef and they were out of it. The California crunchy roll and the scallion pancakes were good. Pancakes were fried though, not griddled as expected. The miso soup was good with tofu. Wanted the dim sum with the broth inside. Explained what we wanted to waitress and got a deep fried dim sum instead. Not the same. Our service with Noelle was attentive, bringing the dishes as prepared and filling our drinks. They close at 2 on Saturday and reopen again later. When we got there at 1:20 l, we had the place to ourselves and the cleaning crew. We will come back again, and try some other items. read more

First I was kicked out five minutes before they open. Why have the door open then? They also have some seats inside the restaurant for waiting but I wasn't allowed to sit there and I was told to go outside. I wasn't going to come back but I had my tastebuds all set. I came back at exactly 11:00am and then proceeded to wait another ten minutes for someone to come out from the back. I was finally seated and my drink order taken. The rest of the meal was fairly uneventful and the food and service were great (once one of the owners took over). I've been eating at Amerasia since I was a kid and this is the first time I've experienced any rude behavior. With that said, it was not the owner who was rude at the beginning. In fact, the owner changed my mind about going back to AmerAsia given her niceness and her great service. I know this is a standard lunch spot for downtown folks and I agree. Just beware of the "nasty lady" and make sure you don't try and get there early, LOL. You might get chased out with a broom Overall, I recommend this business and you will not be disappointed by the food. It's always consistently wonderful. Albuquerque is in a landlocked state, so seafood might not be the first cuisine that comes to mind. However, if you know me, I'm definitely a kitty cat that loves her fish. I'm a bit picky about my fish. I know when it's fresh and if it isn't, I'll likely not eat it. This becomes very important when eating raw fish. I do not like rolls or having too many sauces with my raw fish. I want to be able to really taste the fish, the fattiness, the buttery texture. I love how raw fish feels in my mouth. Definitely a very special experience. I like sashimi, gimme a few good pieces of raw fish with a healthy smearing of wasabi and this kitty cat will be purring all the way home. I came here on Friday evening and sat by the sushi bar. The sushi chef greeted me kindly, made sure I was taken care of and also had a few beers with me while I enjoyed 8 pieces of sashimi (I let the chef pick for me). Excellent sashimi that the chef picked for me. I, of course, asked where the fish comes from. LA, was his answer. Nice. Last time I was in Tucson, I was told the seafood came direct from Japan! Even nicer! Don't think I'll be back here for dim sum as everyone has said it is no good. But when I want some good pieces of sashimi, I'll be back here and looking for my favorite chef. read more

I frequent Sumosushi for lunch with a friend of mine. It is his go to spot for sushi and for me, I would say they have won me over to find a place on my list of sushi spots! I have tried a variety of their rolls and always find them to be rolled tightly without the scare of them breaking apart when you pick them up. Their ratio of rice to filling is just right for me. I don't prefer a whole lot of rice! I have not yet found a favorite roll but that is not a bad thing. I will just require more time to continue my research. If I do recall correctly though, I tried the Sexy Roll which had no rice and was rolled with cucumber I believe. That was roll was a lot of fun and very tasty. Their miso is always the perfect temp and very tasty. Probably my favorite here in town. I also appreciate that they don't include a salad which I am alright with because I have a tendency not to eat at most sushi places. From time to time our waitress will offer us a cookie dessert that is covered in powder sugar. If you get the opportunity try it, its fun to eat! read more

Yes!!! My tastebuds are super thrilled right now! Appetizer: fried soft shell crab. This place does it right! Omg I felt like I was back home in South Korea when I ate this! So authentic and flavorful!!! I took my dad to dinner and he is scared of sushi- but he loves pork cutlet so it worked out well for him! I ordered a combo sushi with the dragon roll (eel!), and the eel sauces as definitely different from other places in town (sweeter- the flavor lasted a bit longer on the tongue). Oh and the eel basically melted in my mouth! I was looking around during the meal and noticed some chests and wardrobe decorations (up top) and korean tassels- made a comment on how beautiful they are and asked if the owners were Korean (to our waitress). Made small talk with the owner a little bit later!!! (If you cant tell, I miss Korea). The owner brought over the 4th pictures food- the crispy cookie. I have never had this before anywhere. My daughter and I visited Sumosushi for the first time. We ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura, the crunch roll, the sexy roll and the calamari roll. The fish was fresh and tasty. However the calamari and crunchy rolls were very simple and didn't have much flavor. The sexy roll was very fresh and delicious, it was my favorite. While the food was fairly average, the wait staff was wonderful. Not sure if we would ever go back to Sumosushi, but we are definitely willing to give their other restaurant, Amerasia a try. read more

Lord help them. Ok, so i give them a lil more credit than the other dimsum place in ABQ because of how they actually come around the room witb a cart of their dimsum. Problem is, none of the dimsum even TASTES good, let alone, not much to even select from. I can easily name how many there were and none had the right flavors for dimsum. Its hard to find good dimsum outside of CA, especially if i grew up in the Orange County area where great dimsum chefs seemed to have flocked there and set up shop. The good chefs did not seem to want to stick around in ABQ. First of all, their dumpling selection was very pathetic. There was a steamed pork one, a fried garlic beef one, and a steamed chicken and rice one i believe that looked like shumai but tasted nothing of the sort. And the rest werent any better. There was also this weird powder covered looking dish which i didnt even want to try, nor have i ever seen such dimsum option. Then there was a spicy pork and rice one served in a hot cup. I thought the rice would at least be sticky, but it was just regular white rice and the spicy pork, which tasted more like some mexican pastor dish. Seriously though??? And then there was a noodle salad. Noodle salad?!?! I took chances only on the steamed chicken and rice dumpling, the fried beef dumpling, and the rice with pork. Only finished the 3 small chicken dumplings since the fried beef one and the rice with pork were just awful. I didnt think it would cost much but my total came to 17$?!?!?! Bye felicia. This restaurant is horrible. Both food (Dim Sum) and customer service were pretty bad. They used to be good many years ago. There's only one rude waitress who worked the entire restaurant . We walked in and waited for a few minutes and finally a nice customer told us that we can pick a table and sit down. And we got our water and we waited for a long time to get 4 random plates of Dim Sum. We got BBQ pork buns, scallions pancakes, pot stickers and Shumai. Scallions pancakes were ok. But shumai tastes has a weird taste. BBQ buns were gross. It's not the normal Chinese BBQ pork bun. They mixed the pork with very thick starch inside. The pot stickers had a very thick skin and it's super salty. Frozen Dim Sum probably would be better for these 4 dollar plate. We thought maybe we will try the Japanese dishes so we asked the waitress for the menu and we waited for 15 minutes and I finally caught her attention and reminded her. However, she gave me a dirty look and dropped the menu on the table. We finally decided to leave since we don't have time to wait for her and the food. We came here for dim sum three different times and at the first visit, it was great. The other two times we came, it wasn't as great. CONS: The dim sum choices were very limited and they only had one cart of dim sum that went around. Needless to say, they would run out of food once they cart came out. It would take at least another 10-15min the food cart would make an appearance and repeat the process. Service kind of sucks, as it was slow. Water took time to be refilled. This is by far the worst sushi restaurant I have ever been to. The floor was dirty, and there were only 3 tables of people in the dim sum portion. The bar was closed. Had to wait for someone to come out from hiding to seat me. The sushi was almost rotted and portions were dry and hard. The service was extremely slow and not a friendly place to be. Hawaiian roll is to die for !! I'm a regular here at Sumosushi, and the owner and her family always remember my name! They even ask about my parents! Its the freshest sushi I've ever had in Burque, and the best service by far! Very friendly, and very fast. I can highly recommend the Hawaiian roll, Alaskan roll, cucumber roll, hot night roll, salmon sashimi's to die for, and many many more! I love the seaweed salad - I get it without the salad part...just the seaweed and it's fresh and crunchy just the way I like it. Miso soup is a must. At the end of the meal they always give us delicious orange slices (I don't know where they get these oranges, but they're the best damn oranges I've ever had!!). The sushi chefs are the best, and they greet us with a big smile and wave every single time we walk in. There is absolutely nothing bad about this place. This is my favorite sushi place in Albuquerque. The fish is always super fresh. We love the staff, too. Unhi (sp?) is great and remembers our names even though we only go in every few months. One of the things I really like to get at sushi restaurants and kind of judge them on is their miso soup. Sumosushi has some of the best miso in town. My go to is usually the rainbow roll, although I have been known to mix it up now and then. The hot night roll is delish, crunchy, and a little spicy. All of the rolls that I've tried have been good. I also really like their nigiri. The yellowtail is my favorite. The sushi chefs are always kind and welcoming. They've always remembered me and the hub, too. Make sure you give sumosushi a try for your sushi fix. I may just have to pick some up tonight on my way home :). read more

I had to attend a meet in the area and had always wanted to check out this place. I entered and stood around for a bit waiting to see about a table as there was no sign saying to seat yourself or wait to be seated. I finally looked around the corner and server saw me and called me over to a table. They have nice menu with lots of pictures to give you options. My wife and I lived in the Albuquerque downtown area for almost a year and we both agree that this is our favorite restaurant in Albuquerque so far. I am a little ashamed to say that we have only eaten at the sushi section but, based on other restaurants in the Albuquerque area, this easily is as good as it gets in New Mexico. We reside in Santa Fe, NM right now and now and then we do the one hour drive down to Albuquerque exclusively to visit Amerasia/Sumosushi. The staff is friendly. Some of them are very short in their communication with the customer but I believe this is a cultural thing rather than they don't want to talk to you. They always provide quick service and for people like me, who yet have not mastered the chop sticks, they are more than happy to provide you with a fork as they see you struggling to retrieve your dropped, and now drenched, piece of sushi from the soy sauce plate. As for the food goes they have a great deal of variety when it comes to different types of sushi. My personal favorite, but no so much liked by my wife, is the Crunchy Roll. Rolls we both like are the traditional Philadelphia Roll and the ever so wonderful 911 Roll with its spicy mayonnaise sauce on the side. Their sashimi is also good and simple. The only negative aspect is that they seemed to have upped their prices from 2012 by about 50 cents a roll, which is a shame as I always found them to be very affordable. It is still worth it though but you might want to think a little more when you order that extra roll. To conclude I would like to say that I have rarely encountered such a nice restaurant experience in New Mexico. Forget the chile, go for Japanese! read more

The food deserves a five star but the service was terrible ! Our waiter. Was absolutely clueless! Ordered a Glass of Pinot noir but he brought Pinot Grigio . Sent it back and he brought a glass of what was. Supposed to be Pinot noir but tasted like a cab that was on its way to vinegar‼could not get his attention so finally a lady came over and we told her her about the wine. We ordered gyoza and it came. I do not use chopsticks so asked for a fork. Nope never got it. Waited for small plates for the shared gyoza. Nope. Our main meals came so we once again asked for forks. They came and finally small plates. Then mostly through meal and asked where our miso soup was. Whoops! Forgot that. Brought over the soup without spoons. Jeeze! I have been debating this review since yesterday, but I am super upset by the way this owner handles business. I live in Farmington new Mexico and made an honest mistake yesterday. We have a sumo here, so I called to see if they were open. After being informed they are only open for takeout, I told them I was going to look up the menu and call back to place an order. I looked up the menu for sumo, then dialed from the Facebook page instead of my call history. I placed my order, and when I got to the sumo (here on Farmington), they didn't have my order. The person who took my order would not process without my card info, so I gave it to them. The sumo here apologized for the inconvenience, and they told me they could get my order together in about 5 minutes, so I made my order, went home, and sat down to eat. 2 minutes in, I received a call stating my order was ready. I told the lady I came to get my order and was sitting down to eat. She said I did not and a man got on the phone. After a few moments of confusion, we realized what I had done (and I am not discounting the fact that I made a stupid mistake); he told me that he had trademarked the name of the restaurant for his wife, and there is not a sumo in Farmington. He then told me that I would have to pay for both plates. Initially I thought, ok, but now I'm paying for something I did not receive. I get that times are tough right now, but it's not only tough for our business owners, consumers are hurting as well. I paid full price for the mistake and I did not receive anything but a bad attitude from the owner. He initially asked if there was a way to back out one of the plates to someone in the background, then took my number and never called me back. I was willing to pay for their loss in product and labor, but I also know that mark up on dining out is pretty steep. If he is running his business properly, a couple of things apply to this scenario: 1. Cost of food and labor is about 33% of what they charge for the meal. 2. They have to account for some loss in the food industry. Mistakes will be made by employees, customers can be difficult, and sometimes, things just happen. The fact that I was billed for full price on 2 meals that I will never receive, and was treated like I was trying to do something wrong when I literally made an honest; but stupid, mistake; will prevent me from ever actually visiting this place. read more
