I generally refrain from writing reviews but thought this was as good a reason as any! Not so much because the service was white glove or extensively lavish, but because it didn't pose the inconveniences so often found at other auto service locations. The service was fast, convenient, and completely transparent. This, of course, is a huge difference from the expected delays and uncertainty over what that mechanic over there is really doing to your car. I called Amerismog this morning at 11:00am I spoke with David who was professional, courteous, and above ALL HONEST!! I was in and out so quick I felt like I didn't have time to blink! I won't go back here again and was surprised at all the excellent reviews. I almost wonder if the ownership has changed or something. I pulled up right on time for my 5:30 appt for a smog test. (I had just scheduled it a half hour earlier). I was the only person there besides the owner Dave. He met me in the parking lot and very nonchalantly told me to make myself comfortable while he went to the hardware store. I was like WTF? When he came back he didn't have anything with him so it's not like he needed to go to the hardware store to complete my smog test. He basically left me alone in my car while he went to run a personal errand. Even though I passed easily, the whole thing took an hour to complete. I watched him the whole time he was administering the test, and he could not have moved any slower. He took so long that I got really irritated and agitated. I usually go to a big name car shop to have my 2001 Mitsu for a smog test, but the tech was out that day so i went to this place instead, big mistake! The guy tells me it will be 70 bucks to do a smog check. i tell him i can get it for 50 at my usual shop and he gives me this "you don't know what your talking about" attitude so i tell him i will just go back tomorrow to my regular place. he then begins to haggle. first it's 65, then 55 and Finlay we settle on what i would have payed at my shop. about a half hour later i get the news that my car did not pass and that it is running lean and i need a "carb" sticker to prove that the car is California legal. WTF!!? First of all it's fuel injected and the computer compensates for rich or lean, and second, IT'S FUEL INJECTED!! WHY DO I NEED A CARB STICKER!! he again gave me the smug attitude and told me to have my mechanic fix the problems then bring it back. bring it back? hell no! I payed 50 bucks for the pleasure of his incompetence! read more

Should have known to go back here first, even though I thought I was going to save $10 going to a non test only station. Turns out, with the coupon on the corporate AmeriSmog site, these guys are still competative -- and way more professional. (I paid a similar price at a competitor in Campbell -- who charged a surcharge because my car is German (really??) and didn't offer a re-test option when my car failed, simply because of the gas cap. They took an hour, said they'd call when it was done, and didn't.) These guys, however, on Lincoln are awesome. Quick in, quick out. The best smog testing experience as of yet. I'll go here from now on. I've had bad experiences with another local "test only" grease pit station, that's why I decided to try AmeriSmog on Lincoln Ave. The AmeriSmog shop was clean. I didn't feel like I needed a shower or needed to wash my car after leaving. The waiting room was nice and they had a great mix of complimentary beverages. There was a nice big screen TV and a good mix of magazines for reading. I paid the regular price, without a coupon. I'd rather put more money in the pocket of a local business instead of have them make $10 after California takes their cut. $88 for a fast and friendly service so I can get on with my day...Priceless! No cars in the bays, so walked in at 11:20am on a Monday and was seen to immediately. Had a $10 coupon, but the tech/mech said there was a $20 coupon on the website and he'd give it to me. Also gave me a recommendation (upon request) for a good upholstery repair shop. Smog took about 20mins. Free sodas and waters in a mini fridge and a Koureg on the counter. on 6/20/2017 I brought my 2000 Cadillac dhs to get a smog certificate for transfer of sale, the check engine light was on and I thought I was in for an expensive repair bill, the technician dave that helped me , checked the computer readings and advised me to get a new fuel cap and drive it for approximately 80 to 100 miles and bring it back, so I did ,the light never came back on and the car passed smog and I had since sold it. I needed a smog test only for my wife's Honda so I check yelp. This place popped up and I gave it a call. The guy asked me if I had a coupon and I said NO. He then said just come on down and I will give it to you. So I drove over he tested it and I was on my way!! As far as other posts I have no idea what they are talking about??? I would give him a try if your in the area and you need a TEST ONLY. He's friendly, knowledgeable and fast.. If we ever need a test only again we will for sure be back!! Dave was very helpful and gave me some good advice about what to do when my car didn't pass the smog test. Got my car serviced and took the free re-test. After my car passed Dave gave me some good advice about going directly to the DMV to get my tags that day. I did just that and had everything taken care by end of the day. I'd give this business more stars if it was possible. Mr Gattis worked on my car. It became his project as I recently had some work done to the car. It failed the first time as the on board computer hadn't reset yet from the work I had done. I brought it back a few days later and it passed. Mr Gattis was patient and quite knowledgeable about cars in general. The test was quick. I was offered a drink (coffee, soda, water or candy) while I waited. Mr Gattis even checked my tire pressure as well. I have nothing negative to say about my experiences at this business. You will be pleased if you bring your car here to get the smog test done. I needed to get the smog certification and noticed this business that was along my commute to work. I checked the Yelp reviews which were generally positive. They made it very easy to set up an appointment and the online coupon meant they were price-competitive with other smog test businesses. When I arrived for my appointment it was very clear where to park. I was greeted promptly and he got right to work. He was very respectful of my time and I was in and out of there before I had time to finish my soda. Why you should do business here: 1. The online appointment system is very easy to use. 2. Price always fluctuates last car I took here pretty much got ripped off I paid around 80$ with a coupon for a yr2000+ vehicle. I brought my car here for a smog test as I needed to renew my registration. The service was quick and it is STAR certified. I know some people complain about the prices, and maybe I should've looked into getting a coupon but, when you are a female and just need to get things done, just get it done. Worst experience EVER. DO NOT GO HERE. $80 dollars to FAIL a smog check on my '06 Audi. He new my check engine light was on and still effing charged me. Apparently there is no way to pass a smog check if your light is on (which I found out after.... and I already knew what the problem was) and he did it any way. It was that dreaded time again... time to get a smog check done on my 2008 Ford Focus. I came to AmeriSmog located on Lincoln Avenue because I'd driven past it on a couple occasions since moving to the Willow Glen area. Previously I'd gotten a smog check done in downtown San Jose (which I would not recommend). I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy but upscale interior waiting room at AmeriSmog, which was well-illuminated with lots of comfy seating, a flatscreen television, A/C, and even complimentary beverages with lots of variety! That immediately put a smile on my face and I helped myself to a Dr. Pepper. The technician, Dave, was very friendly and looked the part, so I knew I could trust him with my vehicle. It is obvious that he's put a lot of effort into making his establishment successful and comfortable; I really felt like his guest while he performed the inspection! read more

I know to say that one "loves" a smog facility is a stretch, but I generally do love them because these guys don't mess around. They are to the point, quick (with the exception of one of my visits when I was in a hurry, but went in because there were no other cars waiting or being looked at, and it took about twice as long as my other visits), and helpful. I should mention I have 5 vehicles (2 full size SUVs, a HD diesel truck, a 1995 commuter Del sol and a 31 ft class C RV), so one of them seems to be in smog rotation - and they've all been smogged at AmeriSmog. Wow! These guys are the Absolute Best! I took my car today to a local mechanic for a routine smog check. They said they "couldn't get a signal" and to bring it back next week and leave it for the day so they can figure it out. Something told me to try a different mechanic. So, I went to AmeriSmog and the technician there, Doug, figured out pretty quickly that it was a problem with a fuse and that my old cigarette lighter was possibly creating a short. Not only did he fix the car and complete the smog check...He even pulled off part of the dashboard and sealed off the cig lighter wires to make sure the short does not cause a problem again in the future (and at No Charge!) I'm clearly going to them in the future everyone one of my cars needs a smog check! read more

I needed to have my car smogged, so went in to see Dave. Unfortunately, the car did not pass the first time. Dave asked if by chance the battery had died, of which it had. Dave was thorough in his explanation as to what I needed to do in order to get the sensors to reset. When I brought the car back after following his detailed instructions, it passed! Dave also informed me that they are also able to do car registrations right there as I was coming up on the deadline and did not want to risk late fees with the DMV. This is a great service! This was probably the nicest waiting room for a smog check I have been in. It was air conditioned, clean, decorated, and they even supplied free drinks in a refrigerator, along with a TV and magazines that were recent and not all torn up. The guy I dealt with was very friendly and answered all my questions in understandable English. (This was a new treat for me, as the last 6 years I have dealt with a shop where English was not the first language, and one word answers were the norm, like "Passed" and "OK.") I had made an appointment, and I was served immediately upon arrival. I think I was out within 20 minutes tops. I plan to be back again when my other car needs a smog check! My truck needed a Test Only smog check, and unfortunately I didn't read the fine print posted on the wall. It's $69.95 for a Test Only Inspection. (Large Print) ADD $8.25 for a Certificate ADD $1.80 for an ETF ADD $10 for an EVAP ADD $10 for a Truck The real total? $100 for a Test Only Smog. (for a '90 Chevy truck) It passed...but left my check engine light on. I went back and the technician apologized and went under the hood to connect some loose fittings and the light went off. The 30 minute service ended up being about 20 minutes, and the attendant seemed friendly enough, but unfortunately it was much more expensive than anticipated... read more

I've been coming here for the past 5 years or so. It's convenient, speedy service. They are open decent hours and only closed on Sundays. The staff is very friendly, they offer beverages while you wait. This past time I went the man doing my test noticed I had a leaking hose and said he would replace it so I had a fighting chance at passing. He was really nice and though I still had other problems I came back and he remembered me and did my retest for me. read more

These guys are A#1 plus. My 34 year old Toyota pickup was not able to meet the requirements. They informed me of such and did not charge. Good advice was given.
