We LOVE Amigos. Have been eating here for years and it's one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always high quality, consistently good, the service is always exceptional, the prices are reasonable, and the vibes are cozy. We literally eat Amigos like two or three times a month. Whether we eat at the restaurant or order through DoorDash, the food is always good. Maybe it's just us, but the margaritas are always made heavy-handed, if you know what I mean ;). Food was decent. I had the chicken enchilada and chicken tamale combo. Good amount of food without being too much and the price was fair. Wish I'd stuck to the house margaritas but I swayed by all the "oh you gotta get the Cadillac" posts and honestly I liked the house ones better. They were easier to drink and didn't taste like straight up alcohol but are plenty strong. Definitely will do a pitcher next time! I like the cantina but it's got a real dark, dive bar vibe. Probably best for the singles or couples. Families should stick to the dining area which is brighter and more kid and elder friendly. All in all, was my 3rd or 4th time and I'll definitely be back! When you open the door to the dining room or the other one into the bar, all of a sudden you'll see a lot of activity at peak times. Filled up on both the restaurant side, as well as the bar side. Post pandemic when everyone is charging inflated prices, Amigo's is a welcome old school place. They're not gouging you on the bill. The food is all outstanding Mexican. They gave me a bowl with 3 shrimp and 2 pieces of fish the size of a 50 cent coin, with about 3 pieces of carrots and 2 small slices of boiled potatoes, in some broth. I feel ripped off. I complained to the server. But I am a diabetic and I had to have something to eat, so I ate it. I should have sent it back and asked for my money back. They charged me $20 for the soup. Strong drinks and good food. Enough said... I guess that really isn't enough for a quality Yelp review so let's add a bit more. Amigo's has been a staple for Mexican food in Pasadena for over 30 years and there's a reason for that. They focus on the quality of what they serve along with great hospitality. I came into the restaurant around 6pm on a Friday night and the restaurant was already packed. I put my name down in the wait list and the host informed me that the wait will be approximately 15 minutes which gives me time to look through the menu to decide what I wanted to try as well as lookup what other yelpers recommend. Browsing around it seems like the party platter gave a good variety of the different appetizers and that the margarita was a crowd favorite. By the time I figured out what I wanted I was being lead to my table. As soon as we were seated we were served with freshly fried tortilla chips with a side of salsa. The waitress was very kind and explained how the dishes are prepared along with her recommendations. She also checked in regularly to ensure we were taken cared of. We placed our order for the fiesta platter, the amigo's margarita and a amigo's chimichanga entree. I started munching on the chips and salsa and before I knew it the food started arriving. The drinks came first and it was strong. I'm known to knock back a drink or two once in a while but I was taken back at the flavor and intensity of the drink. Definitely recommended on a Friday night after a weeks worth. Now let's jump into the food. Something that the waitress didn't inform us about what is the size of each dish. They are massive. The fiesta platter was half the size of the table we were at and the chimichanga was almost the size of a loaf of bread. Starting with the fiesta platter, there we a variety of apps which included taquitos, flautas, nachos, cheese quesadilla, and cheese enchilada all topped with guacamole and sour cream. Everything was piping hot and flavor was in point. I read on the menu that it is recommended to be shared between two people, and I should've listened. By the time my wife and I finished the fiesta platter we were already full, but we haven't made a dent on the chimichanga. The chimichanga came with a side of beans and rice and the chimichanga itself was packed with meat and pico de gallo. The tortilla wrap was fried to a golden brown and was crunchy to the bite. Overall this was a great dinner. The restaurant had the homey feel that made me feel I can slowly enjoy the meal. Parking wasn't too bad as they have a small lot in the back of the restaurant, but after the five spots are taken up you have to find street parking. For the Pokémon go players out there, there are two stops but no gyms within the vicinity. read more

Met a friend for lunch who had been here previously. My first time here. Walked in got a table right away. Was served chips and salsa and asked about our drinks pretty quickly. I ordered a Carnitas quesadilla with a side of rice. It was so delicious. Their rice was perfect in my opinion, and the Carnitas were tender and juicy and still had a little bit of that crispy crunch exterior. We were not rushed at all while we were there, but it wasn't overly crowded either. I would go back. The only downfall is parking. It's street parking and it's very hard to find a spot. A favorite place where my friends and I meet up to hang out! Enter in through a heavy double door and find yourself inside a cozy seating room. But the best place to hang out for a good time is in the next room where the bar is. We love their margaritas! Definitely packs a punch. I really like their arroz con pollo that comes with your choice of corn or flour tortilla nice and hot. And they serve complimentary chips and salsa - probably my favorite chips and salsa! It was two adults and two children. They do not have a kids menu. The chips and salsa they brought at first were yummy. For the kids we ordered quesadilla and 1 combo item with a chicken soft taco with breast it comes with rice and beans . Both came with pico de gallo and guacamole. The quesadilla was huge and the chicken taco was pretty big came with two corn tortillas and a good amount of chicken breast. For the adults we ordered carne asada plate that comes with one quesadilla. We also ordered camarones a la diabla both come with rice and beans and tortillas. Your looking at an average of 20 bucks a plate. The carne asada meat was so tender and great seasoning. The camarones were spicy but the flavor was great. Next day going to work I knew I had a margarita from Amigos. They were great but be ready. The food was actually pretty good. I had the 2 item combination of the beef enchilada and chicken taco. I personally loved the taco enough to get a second one on the side. Beans and rice were what I expected. The taquitos were really good too. Chips and salsa were provided. The bartender was really nice and the overall staff were friendly. The ambiance to me was exactly what I expected from a restaurant that opened in the 90s. This place used to be good many years ago. I have been there a few times over the last couple of months, and the vibe has definitely changed. Each time I went, the restaurant section was completely empty (or maybe one family), and the food was mediocre at best. Definitely didn't taste fresh, and the energy was not the same. The staff was unfriendly, not smiling and you had to ask for service more than once. Most importantly, it didn't seem very clean at all. The drinks are strong but I will find somewhere else because it's kind of hard to eat the food. It was barely warm and tasted stale. I'm not sure how they have this rating. The friendly atmosphere was the great respite my friends and I needed as we continued the memorial celebration of our dearly departed Pasadena friend Joseph F. Many of us entered Amigo's somber but through flavorful entrees (I devoured my chicken & cheese enchilada combo) and creative libations (hello prickly pear margarita) we were able to connect, dine & unwind. Been sick/hospitalized for nearly one year, but my memories of Amigos, especially the bar area with Lalo and crew, will always bring a smile to my face. It's very much like a Latino version of "Cheers" where they greet you by name, get to know you, and sometimes take care of you when you've had too much. The adjacent restaurant is great, too. 26 minutes to get served when there is almost nobody in the restaurant is outrageous. I also walked before another person and the waitress still took their order first even though I was seated before the person even got the restaurant . I also got my food later as a result of the waitress taking the other patrons order first. As usual, I'm fearful that I would end up with carpal tunnel just from carrying the iconic brown paper shopping bag inside the house. Lol quite honestly, you will feel the burn just by carrying your takeout items inside your home. It's just THAT heavy... lol I carry my takeout into the kitchen and begin to unpack the order. I have such an overwhelmingly amount of food in just my order it might last me a few days. OMG, AMIGOS hand crafts the most spectacular cuisine! Now, if you have been following me you know that my goto has always been Kathy's eatery up on north lake but the flavors are distinctively different but both amazing! I offer anyone reading my review this challenge! I have been going there for a long time. Victor and crew are the best bartenders in LA. Always friendly. The margaritas are the best around! The crowd is very eclectic and very welcoming !
