Pluses: * tasty unique breakfasty treats * coffee _and_ draft beer * not Starbucks Main issues for me are: * advertisements in the music - what the heck, man? pay for a spotify account, or sound cloud, or play your own mixes, i don't know - don't make me listen to random product advertisements, sheesh * come out from behind the counter and wipe down the tables every now and then - they are constantly filthy * improve the espresso art - especially cortados - pretty sure they're doing 1:2+ ratio cortados and I've given up explaining 1:1 ratio to the various people I find behind the counter read more

One of the best mochas I have had in Seattle. Just the right amount of chocolate and coffee. And yes, the coffee was very smooth. The views from this place are amazing. You can always sit out on the patio or just grab a to-go cup and walk around the beach. A perfect place for coffee anytime especially when it's sunny in Seattle. read more

Awesome cafe/ coffee shop right on Alki! I've come here a few times to meet friends, especially within the last 2 months, to grab coffees and then walk along the beach. I've only had both their Mexican mochas. The spicy one really hits with the spice! I found it delicious but be prepared for that cayenne to HIT! I'd say this is the best coffee shop on Alki, they have all the coffee shop staple drinks and then a bunch of froo froo delicious coffee options as well! read more

Adorable coffee shop near Alki Beach. It's nothing fancy and has a simple menu. The Hawaiian sandwich was the most unique item on the menu. It is a Hawaiian roll with spam, egg, and teriyaki sauce. Ordered 2 vanilla latte's & 2 sandwiches to go (Hawaiian & salami). Coffee was good quality but waited 10 minutes for coffees & when received both they're barely warm. Waited 20+ mins for the 2 sandwiches, only to get home from our walk and my Hawaiian breakfast sandwich is a ham & cheese. It's whatever it happens but the tipping point is the prices and then asking for 30% tip on the checkout screen to only receive this quality. read more

Just strolling on alki beach looking for a light breakfast. This was a good choice! A simple menu with enough options. Coffee was a Honolulu roast which had a medium dark roast taste but it was good! Honestly the worst place in alki. Their coffee is trash. Their only saving grace is there food is good but their kitchen is never open. They never have consistent hours. They decide to close their kitchen whenever it suits them. Owner claims it's because of being short staffed which speaks to the fact that they can't run an efficient business. Decided to try and give them one more chance to find that they closed their kitchen today randomly at 12:30pm. read more

Ampersand might be most known for being a coffee place, but they have a great beer selection as well. They usually have around 6 rotating taps with a good balance of styles (usually an IPA, porter/ stout, a lager, and a various mix for the other 2-3 taps). If nothing is catching you on tap, they have a nice bottle list too-- especially a good selection of Belgian beers. And very reasonably priced. They also have what looks to be a nice wine selection, although I've always kept with the beers-- maybe one of these days I'll branch out. I'm in the beer industry and can tell they clean their beer lines-- which is very much appreciated. The IPAs they put on are also recently released ones and taste very fresh. They have a nice patio- I love hanging out there on sunny days. Don't overlook their sandwiches! My favorites are their ham and brie and Cuban. Usually some nice tunes (without being too loud) playing in the background. They can get busy on sunny days, but the staff works quickly and always has a great attitude. read more

I've been waiting to write this review for a long time and it's because I've had such mixed experiences over the last several years since this establishment became Ampersand. If I could give it 1 star and 5 star I would. The good: Amazing coffee. I love the specials (Fizzy lifting drink!) and the standards. My favorite is an iced white chocolate mocha- they stir everything in and it makes all the difference. The food is great. I've had countless bacon and egg Sammie's and this one is my favorite. The bakery items are awesome too- I'm addicted to their little cinnamon rolls. Beer/cider selection is great. Love the indoor and outdoor seating options. The not great: The Wait. I've waited in line for more than 30 minutes before several times. I've waited for the coffee I ordered for an extended amount of time most of my visits. I've been a barista, I know how this goes but it's been an intense amount of time. Customer service is hit or miss. I've had some favorites that have made my experience awesome. I've also had encounters that made me walk out. I'm not picky people-I just want some amount of courtesy. During my last trip I ordered and paid for preserves on the side (it's awesome when they have it) and they didn't end up having it. No refund just kind of a shrug. I then received the wrong drink and when I pointed it out and confirmed it was "my" order the barista was annoyed and wanted me to take it anyway. She kind of sighed and looked at me annoyed and was like "I guess I could remake it" - after waiting 15 minutes and with several other people waiting I just took it. I'm not a coffee drinker, but Ampersand has some pretty delicious sandwiches. Their salami sandwich and spam sandwich are both delicious. I keep meaning to try their French toast but haven't done it yet. I've tried their pastries a few times and found them to be dry, with the cinnamon roll to be the exception. For atmosphere, this place is very much what you'd envision as a beach coffee shop - casual fun vibe. read more

Super cute, cozy cafe on Alki. I fell in love with Hawaiian coffee after a trip to Oahu and am in love with the fact I can get freshly brewed Hawaiian roasts in West Seattle. The staff is always friendly (Jaleesa is my fav), the food/drinks are tasty and hit the spot, and the prices are fair. Food: I'm a fan of their breakfast bagel sandwich with spinach, bacon and cream cheese. (I usually add egg). I also love their Hawaiian sandwich (Hawaiian sweet role, egg, teriyaki drizzle and nori seasoning... you can add spam or avocado). Tip: Try their seasonal selection of brews. Right now I am in love with the "Coco Cold Brew" -- simply delicious and their spicy mexican mocha if you want something with a kick. read more

Went to Alki with a friend on Mother's Day. Sadly I was not with my mother because she lives far away, but I sent her love from the beach. Anyways, I had no idea this place existed. I went to the cafe for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon during the summer. I tried to order a sandwich at 1:42pm and I was told that the kitchen was closed. Holy smokes this place showed up, it did seem all that flashy so I was like "meh" I'll try something different than Starbucks (yes, I fall under that genre of "basic"). The view here is unreal. The staff is always super kind and attentive even when if you accidentally show up 10 minutes before they close. The only downside is they don't have any vegan snack options. Good location and very nice staff. It's just lacking on the quality. The coffee was bitter and almost cold. The food wasn't all that special either and a bit overpriced. I've been going to this coffee shop for over a year since it is right around the corner from where I live. This morning will be my last time going. The barista decided to blatantly make the drinks for the two groups behind me before making mine (which was a plain latte). Not only did she do that, she made the multitude of drinks for the two groups and then disappeared for several minutes leaving only my drink to be made. Finally, she came back well over five minutes later and then decides to wash her hands and a few dishes before beginning to make my drink. Even the cashier realized what she was doing with the looks she gave her. I've been to this place before when it was twice as busy and got my drink in half the time as it took today. I would like to know what I did wrong to get this level of service. Until then, I'm not going back. read more

Love the Hawaiian theme throughout this establishment. The decor has a cozy island vibe and I appreciate the Island influences on the menu. The staff are very polite and always in good spirits. Ampersand is a lovely spot in the Alki area that serves excellent coffee, beer, and pastries. My most recent visit this past week I was able to try one of their seasonal drinks, Macadamia nut & English toffee latte which was pretty delicious. As a person who frequents a number of coffee shops, you can definitely tell a lot about a cafe based off of something as simple as drip coffee. I'm unsure of the beans that they use, but I was straight up disappointed with my coffee. Not only was it luke warm, but it was on the burnt tasting side much like a certain Seattle coffee company! The upside is that I do like the location. If I find myself back in the area, I would be open to the idea to stop back in and try something different, but we'll have to see.. As a side note, I want to also let others know that their menu is more pricey compared to some of the other local coffee shops in the area (for those who try to limit their caffeine addiction!) read more

Awesome new cafe with great sandwiches and incredible beers. This is exactly what Alki was missing for the longest time. They've got about six breakfast sandwiches: bacon, ham, egg, biscuits.. OMG frickn delicious. Great selection of coffees, mocha, tea, and other breakfast drinks. Then they have a host of other deli sandwiches that look great. What really sets these guys apart is their beer selection. Dozens of IPAs, Belgian beers, stouts, and all of a seasonal variety. Tons of specialty beers of the Pacific Northwest including HUB, Gig Harbor, Logsdon Farms, Fremont and plenty of others. I ordered coffee and a ham & cheese sandwich. They pumped out coffee at lightening speed but when it came to my ham and cheese sandwich, it took forever, and disappointingly, it tasted like it too. My ham and cheese sandwhich, which was literally just ham and cheese slapped inside two pieces of bread, took 30min to come out. That's long enough wait if you are by yourself, you know how long that feels like with an anxious, crying toddler? ETERNITY. and when the sandwich finally arrived in my mouth, it tasted as if it grew wary and stopped being a sandwich--dry, cold and depressed. At least their coffee was good. read more

The shop is across from Alki Beach and offers great views of the beach and the Olympic Mountains in the background. I haven't been to Alki Beach in 16 years. If this place has been here when I lived here I would have had breakfast here all the time. It's easy to pass by. It looks like what it is a coffee shop off the beach. Small. Quaint. Relaxed. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff was pleasant, kind, efficient and added so much to the experience. Horrible customer service. I live and work on Alki Beach, so I thought it would be nice to have a local place to go. I tried it out twice and the service here sucks. The baristas only care about customers they recognize. If I asked for anything (last time they were out of napkins in the dispenser and I had spilled hot coffee on my hand) they act like I'm bothering them. (That time the female barista was too busy chatting to someone about her black lab.) I told myself I'd try it again, I did. Still horrible. I won't be going back. First visit to Alki Beach, saw this cafe while on my morning walk especially saw Hawaiian coffee displayed. Cute little place and everyone working there was so pleasant. Loved my cold coconut brew and my Hawaiian spam sandwich (like a little twist from a spam masubi), but ono (delicious). Enjoyed eating outside with the view of the beach and the local flair. There's a patio for warm, sunny days and a great view of Alki from inside for all the other days of the year. The jazz music (it seems to always be jazz) can be a little sleepy at times, but it's fine if you're coming to study or work. read more
