Went for dinner last Friday night and the service was great! Our waitress was very quick and attentive throughout the night and also was very knowledgeable about the menu. We went with a groupon and got the sriracha wings as the appetizer. Just the wings alone made the trip to the restaurant worth it because they were that delicious! Hubby got the 20oz prime ribeye with mac and cheese and asparagus, which he liked and said was cooked to his specification. I got the lobster pie and while the lobster was a tad overcooked, it was still delicious. The mashed potatoes were really tasty and the sweet potato fries were addictive and not greasy at all. The portions were huge so we had tons of left overs. All in all we had a very enjoyable meal and we plan on returning in the near future. read more

The food was absolutely amazing. I had the Parmesan crusted haddock with scalloped potatoes and vegetable risotto and every piece of it was delicious. The clam chowder was amazing. The flourless cake tasted like a big piece of fudge that was not to sweet nor too bitter. The haddock was cooked to perfection, probably the most delicious haddock I have had since living in the east coast. Price was reasonable for quality of food as well as size of meals. Donna was an amazing manager and went above and beyond to help decorate and make sure everyone was happy! When a bakery forgot about the cake- Donna went to 3 different bakeries to find us a cake for our celebration! Brittany was a wonderful waitress! Very attentive staff and I would highly recommend having an event there! Ask for Donna! She's the best! Also excellent food! The filet mignon and au gratin potatoes were to die for! It's a South Boston classic, and it has its own parking lot! I've gone for dinner before, and prices are very reasonable for huge portions and solid, honest food. The menu offers a pretty wide selection, and I haven't been disappointed in anything yet. Everything is a great value, and I really like the warm bread they start you with. My recommendation is to go for the Sunday brunch and get there early. The buffet offers classics like lobster pot pie, chicken parm, salads, a carving station, made to order omelettes, a dessert spread, classic breakfast items, etc. The dishes change depending on the week, and they once had perfectly tender lamb chops, which we devoured despite being stuffed from all the food. Amrhein's is a terrifically solid neighborhood restaurant. I met a friend here after work and was immediately charmed to see the regulars greeting each other like family (cue an Olive Garden commercial). Seated at the higher-than-normal bar table on supersize stools, we sipped boozy cocktails and awaited our entrees. My lobster roll (paired with a Cape Codder, naturally) was generous, though saltier than I'd like. My friend's linguini with clams was more than generous and adequately priced. When we got here, we ordered two Pan Seared Salmon and a New York steak, medium rare; along with a starter. Our starter never came out and the waitress never checked in, except when taking our orders, bringing out the food, and taking the plates. We asked her about the starter when she brought out the food and she said she forgot about it, but then she corrected it. The steak was undercooked and lacked flavor, but the fries were good. Both in my party that ordered the Salmon said that it was rather dry. We were never asked if we wanted refills when our glasses were empty. Overall, if I return to Boston in the future, I am unlikely to come here. Would not recommend if you want fast service and attentive staff. I've never thought of myself as much of a brunch guy, since it seems like most places I've tried can never find the right combination of breakfast and lunch options to satisfy- I'm always ready for lunch, but it seems like whoever I'm with is still in the mood for breakfast. Quite the dilemma. So it was with a healthy dose of skepticism that I headed to Amrheins on Sunday. I'm happy to say that all fears were put to rest as soon as I stepped inside and saw the massive buffet awaiting my girlfriend and I- an omelette station, carving table, pastries, fruits, salad options, as well as numerous other traditional breakfast choices (eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon) and a variety of lunch AND dessert options were all laid out. In short, the type of spread that you would hope to see if you're going to pay 18 bucks per head for an all-you-can-eat meal. My girlfriend went primarily for old school breakfast and had good things to say about the bacon, eggs, and pancakes. I opted for the lunch side of things, and particularly enjoyed the tomato and mozzarela salad, honey barbecue chicken wings, and macaroni and cheese (which we both tried and agreed was amazing). While numerous wings and several servings of mac left me with little to no room for dessert, I was hard-pressed to pass on all of the cookies and cakes they had available. Brunch for two with coffee, OJ and soft drinks came to 50 bucks, but I couldn't argue the price after such a satisfying meal. My only advice would be to leave plenty of room- there's so much good stuff available, it would be a shame not to get your money's worth. Amrheins will definitely be on my weekend hangover cure short list from now on. read more

I was invited to this place for a New Year's eve dinner with a group of good friends. Pros: The food was delish. The menu was large, but while reading over it slightly inebriated everything looked thought out. I don't like big menus, but a well executed big menu will make me look past that. The wine list was semi-extensive. Portions were HUGE! Cons: Apparently my friends made an 8:30 reservation. There were 10 of us, so I'd say it's kind of a big reservation for New Year's Eve. However, they called him back and had him change it to 9:30 that night. Problem is, the kitchen closes at 10. We were rather rushed to pick all our entrees and wine. When the food arrived we were then rushed to finish our first course and hurry up, eat and go already!! It was quite obvious they wanted it us out. Sucks to work on New Year's. But really, that's not my problem. We sat in the back room which was cozy and warm. The actual dining room that was attached to the bar looked pretty swanky and nice. You see this place just as you are entering Southie so it sticks in your mind of places you need to stop and eat at. Being a Southie resident we've eaten there a bunch of times. Everytime you go by there it's always packed. There are always people out front and the lot next door to the restaurant is always full. We hear they have an amazing brunch but have tried to get in twice and they are booked all the time. The lobster mac and cheese is INCREDIBLE. You get HUGE pieces of lobster not just little chunks or shreds. The shrimp oreganto is great and comes with a nice salad. During the holiday season they offer a pumpkin risotto. All being hesitant that it might be heavily pumpkin flavored one from our group braved and ordered it. It came out in an actual pumpkin which was very cool and wasn't at all what we expected. It was sooooooo good, it wasn't "pumpkin" flavored at all which was pleasant surprise. The salmon on the menu is wonderful as well. Comes with fingerling potatoes which are my favorite!!!!!! I haven't had one of there burgers yet but sitting next to someone that was enjoying one was an incredible experience because it looked amazing!!! Been living in Southie for 1 1/2 years, my first time there. Was always intrigued by the menu, as it's one of the only places in Southie that offers more than Pizza and bar food. Was impressed by the selection and specials, as well as the wine list. We had the buffalo chicken dip for an app - very spicy and chunky, lots of big pieces of chicken. Yum. Had the swordfish special, it was very fresh and tasty! My fellow diners had salmon, veal chop and scallops and were all amazing... The atmosphere was nice, old Boston with lots of dark wood. I am excited to try out the free shuttle - what could be better?! Also, there is ample parking and service was wonderful. A mom-n-pop kind of anticipation... turns out, it's a NICE joint - plenty of room, friendly greeting at the door, and has that great dark-wood classic pub look. Not "upscale," but you could wear almost anything here and not be out of place. Awesome. For (as I learned) a Boston landmark, I think the beer selection could have been better - I tried a couple summer ales (not my thing) but they didn't even have bottles of Sam, except Light. In fact, very few craft brew options. The food menu, though - wow. Outstanding. I had a really tough time choosing... so many options looked good. Definitely a goof chef, lots of new American upscale/trendy ingredients, but still VERY approachable. Comfort classics (pot pie, meatloaf) and some out-there stuff (sambuca risotto!?) partnered will with some New England classics (lobster mac n cheese looked REALLY good) I decided on a Blue Moon, the swordfish, and some fresh pan-fried mozzarella - all of which were OUTSTANDING. Met another couple for the brunch buffet last Sunday. There was quite a variety of food, and for the most part, it was fresh and tasty. The omelet station was awesome and cooked exactly how I ordered it. Service was phenomenal, as my club soda was never empty and the waitresses were continually patrolling tables for empty plates. There are two reasons for only three stars: 1. The steak tips. Although tasty (thanks to the marination, no doubt), they were extremely chewy and very fatty. Might have had something to do with the buffet tray they were sitting in, but all the same, I'd stay away in the future. 2. Labels/signage/what am I eating? There was a variety of options on the long brunch buffet table. And for the most part, you can figure out what you are being served. But, there are a few items - ok, several items - that cannot be determined through visual inspection alone. The most disturbing was the tuna salad/chicken salad. I'm a pretty big fan of both, but still, it would be nice to know if what I am adding to my plate will mesh with the other flavors/foods. Oh, and the Fall/Autumn decorations were awesome. If not for the 85' weather and nasty humidity outside, I might have appreciated it more. read more

Went here because I had a Groupon for it and ended up loving it! First off, we made a reservation for the latest possible (845pm) and were like 20 minutes late and they still were happy to honor it! The food is basic American pub style (except for the Poutine which is excellent by the way) but it is a hight quality food. Portions are smaller though. I really liked the seating. Most of the tables are booth style so it adds a sense of privacy. They have some nice TVs at the bar as well and not too noisy on a wed night. I would definitely go back there. Just wish they had some more adventurous options on the menu. I have been to Canada and had poutine many times and I have to say that theirs was better! The gravy is so savory! read more

Came by here on a Tuesday night with the boyfriend and it was bustling! So glad that I made a reservation. But with a private adjacent lot and sleek classic interior, I'm not surprised that it is crowded. We were seated immediately upon arrival and greeted by our waitress Holly. After receiving some bread and olive oil dip, we decided to pass on the appetizers and dove straight for the entrees. He ordered the Delmonico Steak (medium well) and post selection struggle, I got the Bouillabaisse Ravioli. The steak came out right though with slightly burnt edges. Sides of mashed potatoes and corn on the cob made the dish all more worthy of the price. The lobster ravioli was al dente, surrounded with plenty of shrimp, large scallops and squid. The only downside of the meal was probably the soupy sauce that my ravioli drowned in. Less sauce would definitely have made it better. With portions as big as our heads, we had to unfortunately pass on the dessert that night. Since we came by with the $50 Groupon, the meal was worth the money. I'm not sure about the other reviews of wait staff disliking customers with Groupons, but Holly had no problem with mine! Maybe I'll come back next time for lunch on the patio. The food is typical American and the service (waitress and food service) can be somewhat slow. I typically order their grilled salmon wrap because it is on the lighter side. The salmon tastes pretty good, but I feel like I could cook something similar at home (not a bad thing, but it doesn't make me inclined to make a special trip to this restaurant). There is ample seating, and a variety of American good, so it's a good choice for work lunches or large groups needing a place to get food. read more

First off, our service was excellent! Stacy was our waitress and she made sure we had anything we needed. The restaurant has a old, historic setting but has nice updated look. We tried this place with a Groupon and were very pleased. The bread with oil was tasty, the bread was warm. We ordered a fried calamari appetizer which was just ok. The calamari was to oily but the peppers went well with them. My wife ordered the twin lobster which was delicious. It came with clam chowder, mussels and corn on the cob. A ton of food and prepared well. I ordered the haddock with garlic mashed potatoes, very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The portions were large. We will definitely be back and I would recommend if you are in the area to try. A plus is they provide off street parking. read more

We met friends from the North Shore. Very friendly wait staff. My wife and I had a drink at the bar waiting for our party to arrive. The bar is very cool. Hand carved wood, a must see. Two TV's so you can check out the sports on hand. Onion Soup was very good. My wife had the calamari and she was in heaven. I was disappointed with the fried clams and the fries were below par. Looks like a good idea to make a reservation as it did start to get busy, Saturday night. I think we will give it another try. read more

If you're staying anywhere near Fort Point, at the Intercontinental, The Westin, etc. you must make the hops over to this place - esp. for brunch where you get to sample a broad range (it's all you can eat) of the various dishes on the menu and/or variant thereof. The first time I got scallops that were supposed to be in a sage brown butter sauce - I'm pretty sure it was just a salt bath. Didn't really enjoy my dinner much at all. Friends enjoyed their meals, though (shepherd's pie, lobster pie). Gave it a second chance when BF and I got Groupon(s) for dinner there. Took a risk and got turkey tips risotto. Sounds obscure by description (turkey tips with creamy risotto, baby spinach, craisins, and cashews) but tried it anyway and was SO glad I did. It was amazing enough that I tacked on another star to this review. Service has always been great here. Abner and I stopped in after dropping someone off at Logan. We ordered drinks. I got a Merlot and Abner got a coffee with Bailey's. Our server brought warms rolls, with a garlic olive dipping sauce. These were delicious. For an appetizer, we got the meatballs. These were pretty good, but I think the cheese on top could have been melted a tad bit more. Then...we waited...and waited...and waited for our entrees. I saw other tables waiting a very long time too. It was busy, but I think we waited a good 45 minutes from the time we finished our appetizer. Our server apologized, but the wait was a bit over the top. Abner got the some kind of seafood alfredo and I got the roast turkey dinner. Abner enjoyed his, but mine was just okay. I had to ask for the gravy. She said "You want extra gravy?" Since there was not any on it in the first place, I was not asking for extra, just what it was supposed to come with, as stated on the menu. What's up with the clocks in the dining room? One clock was 6:30 and one was 6:50, but when I looked at my watch, it was 7:10. Maybe this is so you don't realize how long it's taking to get your food. The bathrooms were old, but clean. Our server, Mariana, was friendly. There was parking on the side of the restaurant. Just a suggestion, please have your kitchen staff keep the door closed. As I was walking by, I could see inside the kitchen from the parking lot. That might not be a good thing. Not sure if I would go out of my way to go back because of the long wait. read more

I haven't been out much due to covid restrictions, but, last weekend my sister and I went to grab some brunch here; and I am so gad we did! It was so good and the staff was amazing! It felt good to get out of the house and still feel safe as they were following all icivd rules and everyone was socially distanced and all staff were wearing masks! I have had dinner here a few times and have left extremely full both times which could be because I loaded up on the great rolls and oil they bring you. Never less, they have a fair amount of options on the menu. My most recent visit was on Friday around 8:30 and the place was pretty quiet. It was very enjoyable and they had a couple of sports games on as well. I ordered the pesto penne and the pumpkin ravioli. Both were good but the pumpkin raviolis seemed to have pieces of grilled chicken mixed in which wasnt mentioned in the specials menu. They have some pretty good drink specials as well. As long as they keep bringing out those rolls, I'll keep returning. read more
