The young lady at the register is very rude and fresh. This would be the last time i ever come back here. The guy that makes the sandwiches never listens and has a nasty attitude when he messes up your order. He messes up my order every other day but today very rude and nasty. I called on the phone and i had on airpods i told the lady hold on she is so rude yelling at me to make up my mind. Im telling her to add something on the sand wich she hangs up not even listening just rude and ignorant. I work down the block this is how they treat the community like shit. I would never come back again. The cashier argued for 5 mins trying to not make over my sandwich when i asked the deli guy refused and said take it up with the cashier. Obsessed with this place right by our hotel (The Lucerne). They have a huge variety of sandwiches etc. Like, really huge. Panini, wraps, salad. They make fresh juices and the coffee is good. I had expected prices for food in New York to be higher than in Omaha, especially considering we are in a pretty nice neighborhood here. But a sandwich of any kind costs about $10 here so is a better deal than what I get back home. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have great reviews. I haven't even read the Yelp reviews - which is usually a MUST before I try someplace. But I stopped in and was hooked. Have been here a number of times now and it has always been great. Staff are friendly and service is fast. There is no seating inside, a few rickety tables outside; I guess that's my only complaint. read more

I needed to buy lunch and dinner for the plane, and this place was closer than Zabar's. I was under time constraints. My mother and I had gotten sandwiches here before, and they were decent, although the bread was extremely bland. I decided on two paninis, knowing that I would likely only eat half of each, and have the rest the next day. The Cuban panini was VERY good. Then, a few hours later, I tried the Turkey Club panini. ACK! THE BACON WAS BASICALLY UNCOOKED!!!! AND EXTREMELY GRISTLY. Seriously, what the hell? This could be dangerous. The panini was therefore inedible at that point. I had to discreetly spit out the bite I'd taken. Ewwww! This was a SHOCKER. If I return here, I will most definitely avoid ANYTHING with bacon. This was extremely disappointing, as I very rarely eat bacon. It's an unhealthy treat. Service was meh at first. I stood in front of the counter and was ignored. I finally went to the register and asked how to order. The cashier said, "At the counter." I said, "Well, they're not paying attention." Walked back, and THIS TIME, someone asked what I wanted. Pffft. Cashier was friendly, though. Prices are very reasonable. Huge selection of sandwiches, wraps, paninis, etc. They have groceries, too. It's not a huge place. Terrible decision to eat here last night. My friend is visiting from Cali. She got ice cream and Takis. I had the grilled chicken wrap with mozzarella, lettuce, sun dried tomatoes and added red onion. First off I woke up this morning with the worst stomach ache ever. Genuinely I got FOOD POISONING from this wrap. I have had the worst diarrhea I've ever had. My stomach has been absolutely wrecked today. This place would rate 5 stars if they didn't have a questionable staff on week ends. I order with Grubhub 7 days/wk and the place is generally reliable. However, there's a cashier who has an issue with me and ruins orders when she can. I'm not ordering on week ends anymore due to her. For the money I spend, I don't expect special treatment, just smart, friendly service. I average $30 per order = $210 per week! For that money, I deserve a friendly relationship, but I don't get it. I use Grubhub so I sent have to deal with phone ordering, language problems, etc. and they still make mistakes weekly! Their food is decent, but their delivery orders are questionable. Amsterdam Market was at the right place at my coffee time! I was greeted with a "Can I help the next customer". I ordered my small black coffee and requested she fill it up. She smiled while looking at me as if I had two heads. If she didn't hear or understand she should have told me. Naturally it wasn't filled up to my satisfaction. Great little corner bodega in a convenient location. I spent some time staying nearby, and found myself here almost daily. They have friendly staff, have a great little selection of grab and go items, and they have a nice deli setup. Great little corner shop deserving of a high rating. Giving them 5/5. My family of 5 stayed across the street at The Lucerne Hotel, and we are very thankful to have the Amsterdam Marketplace so close! Clean corner store with plenty of quick grocery options, and a deli that became our go-to breakfast and quick food to go. Natalie behind the counter was super nice and learned our family's order by the end of our trip. Only negative was bacon was undercooked and one of the cooks one morning was a bit rude, but besides that everything was tasty and great for our family! read more

I left here very depressed today, like I wanted to cry. I was really excited when this place opened. It's cute, well-stocked (even with gluten-free and dairy-free stuff), clean, and I'd asked them if they can make gluten-free sandwiches and they said yes. Today I put that to the test. I will say they were very nice, and I'm sure part of the lack of communication was a language issue. But here's what happened. You decide. I walked in, asked again, "do you have gluten-free bread to make sandwiches". "Yes we do." ok. That guy walked away. I thought he was going to help me, he was not. OK. I ask the next guy, "Do you have gluten-free bread to make sandwiches?" "Yes we do. Just go grab a package of GF bread at the other side of the store." SIDENOTE: This has happened to me at Whole Foods before where they were out of the GF bread behind the counter, asked me to grab them another, they made me a sandwich, done. Not this time. Back to AM: They didn't have bread. They had hamburger buns and ciabatta rolls which are about 2 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches long. 4 in a package. I like them, so I pick that, and hand the package to the deli guy and ask, "Would it be OK to use 2 rolls to equal 1 sandwich since they're less than half the size of a normal slice of bread?" Sure. Not waiting for the sandwich to finish being made, I go up to the original guy at the cash register to pay. $30. WTF?! I said, "$30?!? For a sandwich?!" He said, "you got 4." "No I didn't. I got one. Split into 2 tiny rolls." Now they have to discuss amongst themselves. They think I said 4, he said 3, doesn't matter, I still have to buy the whole package of rolls. After some polite back and forth, I finally got him to make 2 small sandwiches and I still had to buy the whole package of rolls. $20 total. Here's the thing. If YOU walked into that deli, or any deli, and said, "do you have rye/pumpernickel/whole-wheat bread?" They'd say yes, they'd make a sandwich. They would not expect you to BUY a loaf of bread, give them 2 slices and walk away with the whole loaf. Or worse, to expect to make sandwiches out of every slice of that loaf of bread. So how could they not explain that to me before I grabbed the package, which he told me to do? I could have brought my own bread from home. But then, I would make a sandwich at home. And here's why I was so sad when I left: It sucks to be gluten-free. It's not a choice. It's rare enough to find a place that will make GF sandwiches. And every place that does, charges more, and the sandwiches are smaller. Every place except maybe Jersey Mikes. It's depressing and maddening. And this time, I felt like I was being additionally punished for being gluten-free. Taken advantage of, and punched in the gut. So by the time I got my sandwiches, I had lost my appetite. I am staying at the Lucerne and the Amsterdam Marketplace is right across the street. It is incredibly convenient to have so close. Despite the other negative reviews, I decided to go check it out. I found that this store has so many different options including sandwiches, smoothies, quesadillas, desserts such as cookies and pastries. There are so many different drink options and snacks to bring back to the hotel room. Both of the employees I interacted with smiled widely and were happy to talk and help us get a late night snack. I really enjoyed the chicken avocado sandwich and a smoothie. Everything is so neat and well taken care of, a quaint little store that I would recommend to anyone staying in the area. read more

I went to this place yesterday with my boyfriend and had a terrible experience. We went to get sandwiches and when I looked at the menu, it said for a sandwich, chips, and pickle it was approximately $8.95, but the guy making the sandwiches said they were out of chips even though there were chips right in front of us. So my boyfriend asked if we could have those chips with the sandwich instead and the cashier said no. Then the cashier proceeded to say that the chips weren't included in the price - even though it said they were included on the menu - and that the sandwich itself was actually a dollar more than what was listed on the menu. He went to go ring up the sandwiches and I complained because the price was more than what was listed on the menu AND we didn't get the chips that was included. And the cashier points to a sign that says prices are up because of inflation. What a slap in the face to your customers. So since inflation is up, you charge more than what is listed on your menu? We decided not to get our sandwiches and left because of the false advertisement and poor customer service. To make it even worst, the cashier tried screaming at us as we left. Will not be returning. Edit to say this - the owner/staff member at this store clearly doesn't value his customers. Multiple customers, including myself, have complained about the poor customer service here and the hostile attitude of Adam, yet instead of taking his customers concerns seriously, he laughs at their concerns. How are you supposed to know what anything costs before you order it? They conveniently also have ZERO price tags on anything in the store. This place is staffed by really great, late-night guys. They're friendly and professional and they genuinely seem to care about their customers and the food they prepare.
