This used to be a favorite establishment for my family and I. We have been around since Peaberry's originally opened many years ago. Recently ownership changed and though the owner is nice enough, the changes that have come with it are unfortunate. Favorites have been removed from the menu (the flavored coffee was to die for), prices have gone up considerably and you get less than you used to. $9 for a sandwich that does not include chips anymore is pretty crazy. I've been in at least 2-3 times a week with my small children over the years and have enjoyed seeing the same faces every morning. Sadly, it would seem that those same large groups that frequented Peaberry's have moved elsewhere. From the renovations to the changes on the menu and the changes in staff, this has become more of a "hipster" west coast type hang out and it's lost so much of it's small town charm. Don't change what's not broke I'm sure we will be in every once in a while for a vanilla chai (at least keep that!) but this will no longer be our go-to place. read more

Cook seemed overwhelmed, and it looked like a Chinese fire drill. Only ordered an egg and cheese on a roll,and an egg,cheese and bacon-this order to go took over 35 minutes from order to completion. Great little cafě some of the staff they have is very friendly and pleasant... I am giving a 5 star rating due to my two most recent visits. I have experienced a friendly and out of the way employee. Made me feel like they actually cared that my order was made right by coming and asking me about the many changes I made to the sandwich. And then also brought my order out to me and my family. That is what you call great customer service. I did however fail to get her name. Although I do know she has a few tattoos on her arms. I know she has been there for a couple years and is a great asset to Peaberry's... Sometimes it's the smallest things that will make someone's day and want them to come back to see a smiling face. I work in Simsbury. Only go there if I'm desperate. Overpriced. Owner rude. Soups are good but terribly overpriced for quantity. I can't have gluten. Asked couple of times for just chicken salad on bed of lettuce, nothing more. Said they would still charge me full sandwich price. I said ok the first time and got such a small quantity of chicken salad it was pathetic and paid over 8 dollars. Second time I asked same thing but could they make the chicken salad a bit more sunstantial. Manager consulted, Said they would need to charge me double if i wanted more than usual amount. I walked out. Have not been back since. You'd think they would accomodate a request like that. No bread, no tomatoe, all I wanted was lettuce bed and chicken salad. Another restaurant in Granby will accomodate my request with pleasure and for less $$. And for that they get my business on regular basis. read more

I really wanted to like this place. When I walked it it seemed cute and cozy. Nice place to grab a coffee or do some work. However, they have horrible customer service and the women at the front was super crabby. My husband had a large hair in his chicken wrap on the first bite so ended up returning the food. So, after reading the yelp reviews, I entered this cafe prepared to be served by bitter Simsbury harpies. I was disappointed. The cashier was professional and efficient. When asked what to put my sausage egg and cheese on, I told her to surprise me. She offered her favorite, i agreed, and she added that I made her day. I observed three customers ahead of me make their annoying and demanding orders (without tipping or thanking) and have the theory that if the staff here gets grumpy it's because they spent the day getting mildly abused by the snobby, ungrateful clientele, but I also could be wrong. When I sat at the counter the woman working the toaster and making sandwiches smiled and said hello. Also, the sausage egg and cheese in an everything bagel was quite good. The day old raspberry crumble, also good. I was pleased with the service and food but the environment was unimaginative. It's a local business that too closely resembles a corporate Starbucks. What's the point? Anyways, be friendly, tip your waitstaff and you won't have a problem. read more

We had the worst experience ever in a eating place in this cafe. Today me and my family went for a late lunch, when we ordered sandwiches we specifically mentioned "no bacon" We were served sandwiches with "bacon". When we mentioned this the staff took the plate and brought back what should have been new sandwiches, but they had just tried to pick out pieces of bacon. When we checked we saw few pieces of bacon again my wife went to speak to the girls at the counter and one of the girl said that she did not charge for the new sandwiches, we assumed that they did not charge for the three and had charged only for two. When I checked the credit card statement to check it showed they had actually charged for three, when i went to ask them about this the girl who originally took the order claimed that she did not see the bacon and was implying that we were lying. When i told her this is not how they should deal with customers another girl chimed in saying " yes this happens all the time" " we deal with people" again implying that we were lying. I have never been treated like this by anyone like this and was so disgusted that we left without even finishing our lunch. This place needs to train their staff better, they need to understand insulting customers is not good for business. Will never ever step inside this place again. read more

Peaberry's has been a "home away from home" for me for 15 years - with my husband or daughter, friends & colleagues, or alone with a book- a true neighborhood place. Peaberry's Dirty Chai is the best I've ever had- espresso in their vanilla chai is just so smooth. Although I give high marks to the lunch menu items, I haven't gotten over the loss of the turkey tarragon sandwich - please bring it back! The staff is welcoming and friendly and the new owners have done a lovely remodel & added their own touches. read more

I was very disappointed when I went in 45 minutes before closing and the service was rude and minimal. The cashier clearly acted like she was inconvenienced that I was coming in the hour before close. Also, they had shut down the espresso machine an hour before close, so they didn't have a full drink menu available. Great local coffee shop separated from the Starbucks of the world. They offer all the staple coffee drinks just the same as Starbucks but the atmosphere and local faces make it much more unique. Best for breakfast or afternoon coffee runs, with fresh pastries and great sandwiches. Dinner and lunch menu aren't too bad but can be a tad expensive for just a sandwich or salad. Also great for desert or alcohol (past 5pm) and they have weekly open mics which bring in crowds of all ages. Comfy and open atmosphere great for meetings or dates. These are the local places that add a little local personality and serve damn good coffee and specialty drinks. read more

I ordered a chocolate chip cookie cortado and a ham and Apple sandwhich and it was only a few minutes before both were ready. This place is the worst! It continues to go downhill, clearly an issue with ownership/management. It took over 30 mins to get 2 (cold) sandwiches and a cup of soup. There were 4 employees behind the counter, and only 1 making sandwiches. The person making the sandwiches seemed confused and kept starting new orders before finishing the half done orders. He kept trying to serve orders "for here" even when he was told more than once they were "to go." Furthermore, he put his thumbs all the way through the sandwich, splitting it into quarters, and then had the audacity to tell me the bread wasn't split, it's just thin! There is no appreciation for good customer service, the employees seemed confused and overwhelmed. This is the 3rd time in a row that I've had issues/complaints getting lunch. Despite the lack of a good deli in Simsbury, I won't be going back again! read more

The food is good, but mostly I am sold on this place because they were incredibly welcoming to my kids. It is hard for find a place where you can take small kids and feel like they won't drive everyone crazy, but not only does Peaberry's have enough space for everyone to have their own little dining area, and little toys for kids, but the staff is super friendly. My kids totally spilled water everywhere. The staff could have been annoyed, but instead took it as an opportunity to meet my kids and make them feel welcome. I'm grateful read more

I used to look forward to a lunch from Peaberry's - a large hearty sandwich, chips and a pickle! I am sorry to see the chips that come with the sandwich go - but would be more accepting of this in light of rising food costs etc. IF the sandwich I usually get (veggie) hadn't also diminished along with it!! This sandwich used to have thick layers of carrots and spinach on thick, hearty bread. Now - the layers are thin at best, mostly the mayo sauce -- it's really not worth the trip. I read the response to a similar comment which offered rising food costs and minimum wage as answers, and I sympathize, but I'd rather they increase the price a quarter or so, because now it's really not worth it at all... read more

I have been there a lot on weekday mornings. Great food and wonderful service. Then I tried going there on Saturdays and the same woman was rude to me twice in a row. She was absolutely exasperated because I ordered a custom sandwich. After a long exhale and a stare off to space, she gave me a lecture on how to order it in the future. The next Saturday I ordered the same thing using her instructions and she was almost in a fury and gave me new instructions. I've since found out that she is the owner. I'm all done going there. I've never written a review before and unfortunately for Peaberry's today I am. I went in for the first time in a couple years and was amazed at the remodel they did and the new food choices. Bravo! The girl who politely waited for me to make my decision was wonderful. And then there was the other woman making the drinks who was on the total opposite side of the polite spectrum. I had the "pleasure" of watching this go down as I was waiting for my sandwich to be ready. When asked to get a glass of water from her station for what appears to be a regular customer she rolled her eyes in annoyance and mouths "no" to the cashier rather than simply performing her job. She did proceed to give the customer her glass her of ice water but couldn't leave it at that. Instead she instructs the customer that she should have used the self serve water container in front of the counter. The customer nicely replied that she doesn't like the taste of the water from that container as it often tastes like the plastic container. The barista then informs her that the water behind the counter comes from a similar container. The customer acknowledges that she knows this but that the water behind the counter always tastes a bit better. The barista then continues and suggests to the customer that maybe she should just buy a bottled water because it comes from Poland Springs. This whole encounter contained a visible annoyance and attitude by the barista. The customer was nicer than me, she mumbled under her breath "well that was rude" and continued to wait for the rest of her order. But she was right. That was rude. And it was unacceptable behavior given the nature of the job. After watching that display of "customer service" at a local cafe which should have a nice small town feel to it, I left feeling annoyed and angry on behalf of the customer. I will not be returning. Though I highly doubt the barista would care about the loss of any paying customer. read more
