My son is going away to the Army Officers program. This is our last family lunch before he goes away for training. I'm a bit sad, but very proud of my son. We did a quick search on yelp and this place showed up. We went on a hike nearby but it was really hot and starting to get dark so we decided to grab some food. I had no expectations for this place since I didn't really get a chance to look through the reviews or pictures but it was a very nice dinner overall. We were seated right away and there were so many art pieces that it took me a moment to take it all in. I felt kinda gross dining in because of the dirt that we trekked in from earlier but the server didn't seem to mind. I washed up a bit in the bathroom and it was pretty spotless in there. That tells a lot about the restaurant itself. For food, there were many options but we shared a few plates that included curry, rice and noodles. The portion size was perfect and flavor was really good. I'm always a sucker for anything curry.. The food here looks good on the surface--but lacks real substance. We ordered several dishes, and each one followed the same frustrating pattern: heavily padded with filler ingredients and light on actual protein. The seafood combination plate came out sizzling and aromatic--but beneath the showmanship was mostly bell peppers and onions, with a barely-there amount of actual seafood. It felt like we were paying for a stir-fried vegetable platter with a cameo by shrimp and squid. The pineapple fried rice, while served in a carved-out pineapple (a visual win), was 90% rice with a few sparse pieces of shrimp, some raisins, and the occasional cashew. Sweet, yes. Satisfying, no. For a dish that commands premium pricing, it fell flat in terms of both portion balance and flavor complexity. The salmon crispy roll was just more salad and a another letdown. It featured just three long spring rolls sliced in half, strategically placed on a mound of lettuce, dressed with what tasted like bottled green curry or cilantro dressing. We walked in here and were quickly welcomed and sat. I immediately noticed the elegant casual vibe of the restaurant and appreciated all the modern decor. Right from the start- the inviting homey and clean ambiance, friendly and accommodating servers, and delicious well-portioned grub - reinforced my decision to celebrate my dad's birthday here. Fantastic addition to the Walnut Creek dining scene! Andaman is located in the Newell Promenade, directly across the street from the Kaiser parking garage. Om 10/26/2023, my friends Sarah and David treated me to dinner here for my belated birthday. I was very excited since I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant. It was pretty busy when we walked in at around 6 pm. We were welcomed by the staff and were seated immediately. The interior was impeccably clean, and the ambiance was warm and relaxed. Traditional Thai and Halloween-themed pieces decorated the room beautifully. Our server was a cheerful young woman. She got us started with drinks while we were catching up with each other. More on her later. Our meal started with Tom Kha - a creamy coconut soup with chicken and mushrooms. The taste was tangy and rich, and the chicken was very tender. We shared a trio of dishes - Pineapple Fried Rice (with chicken), Drunken Noodles (with beef), and Lemongrass Chicken. Everything tasted fresh and vibrant, and the flavors were very balanced. We wrapped our meal up with Fried Banana with Ice Cream, a perfect dessert to share. Service we received was exceptional. Our server was polite, attentive, and considerate. We originally wanted to order Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. She recommended against it since the chef had told her the mangoes were not ripe enough to serve. Such honesty is so hard to find today, especially in a restaurant environment. We all appreciated it very much. To sum it up, Andaman's 5-star rating is well justified. I am so glad we found ANDAMAN Restaurant, because the staff team, June and Sunny are the best waitress and are very pleasant. If there was a half star option I would give Andaman 4.5. The flavor on all the dishes are amazing. This place has arguably the best pad Thai in the area. Rich and complex flavors all around. The spicy level is very spicy here. Dish size/proportion is plentiful. So why one star off? Well mainly we have tried this place multiple times now. Dishes with protein options: beef, chicken, pork is often over cooked and dry on most dishes. All the seafood dishes are great and succulent. The only other caveat is that the Shrimp Pad Thai is a +$6 up charge which is pretty hefty over other places. Would expect a +$2-4 range standard. So the predicament for that dish is stay with dry meats or pay up. The Tofu madness is super spicy, they warned us ahead of time before ordering. Seafood champion is amazing with the savory and sweet seafood ingredients with a hint of spice. With the flavor, texture, and portioning of the dishes I would recommend Andaman. read more

We were perusing the menu and chatting while waiting for one of our friends to arrive, and one of the waitresses continually checked in on us asking if we were ready to order. We told her we were still waiting for our friend to arrive, and I'm sure she didn't mean it this way but we did feel slightly pressured to try and order despite our friend not arriving yet. We ended up deciding to start with the corn fritters to share, and I thought it was quite enjoyable! Two of my friends also opted for drinks (thai iced tea and lychee iced tea) and liked them both. Our friend ended up texting us her order, and everything was timed perfectly because she came right as the food was coming out. I opted for the pad see ew with chicken, and thought some of the chicken was quite dry. I had another friend who ordered the pad thai with chicken who also agreed that her chicken was a little dry. I personally like my pad see ew to pack a punch and thought this one didn't have as much flavor as I would've liked (but health wise this is probably a good thing). Another friend ordered the drunken noodles with tofu, and upon discovering that there was no tofu in her dish, we notified the waitress from earlier, and she was really apologetic about it. They gave her a new plate, and my friend said she liked the drunken noodles! We wanted to get dessert elsewhere, but overall I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant! What a surprise find! New to the area, and craving Thai food, this establishment exceeded our expectation! We ordered Appetizers of Roti & Curry Sauce and Salmon Spring Rolls. The Roti went well with the yummy curry sauce, and the spring rolls were a delightful surprise! We also ordered the Crispy Rice Salad, and it was the best version we have tasted. Great Thai restaurant with comfortable seating. It's fancier than a typical Thai restaurant but their prices are reasonable, especially given how nice the ambiance is. I only tried the pad thai and pad sew ew and both were delicious and a generous amount. Wait staff was nice. Warning, you MUST pay for parking which is $3.50/hr, even on Sunday nights. The workers there said they city is really strict and they've seen many ppl get ticketed. I would recommend parking either at the nearby mall and carpooling OR parking somewhere else. read more

We were so incredibly impressed by Andaman Thai! We called ahead to get on the waitlist, and were able to be seated immediately at the time we had requested. The restaurant itself is in a small strip mall on the outskirts of downtown Walnut Creek, meaning parking is no where near as bad as it is even just a block over. The inside is gorgeous- everything from the lighting and plants, to the wine display at the bar, was fun to look at, and a great environment to relax in. Every one of the servers was super nice, and they did a wonderful job especially considering how busy the restaurant was. We loved the food- we started with the shrimp spring rolls which were so refreshing, and then shared three plates among the three of us- the green curry, the pad kee Mow, and the Pad Prik Sod. The eggplant in the curry was SO good- creamy, flavorful, and almost melted in your mouth. Andaman is located in a strip mall along with a few other eateries and there's a parking lot, but it's not free parking on weekdays (there are meters). I guess the parking lot must be owned by the city of Walnut Creek! We got there when they opened, so there was no problem getting seated. The dining area is quite large, but it filled up quickly after we sat down and this was a Sunday afternoon! I would imagine there might be a wait for dinner if you come at 6 or 7. Absolutely love Andaman for their food. It's delicious and my husband and I have loved everything we've tried on their menu. I usually get the pineapple fried rice and I appreciate how generous the portion size feels (it's usually 2 meals for me). We especially love their mango and sticky rice dessert, it's very refreshing and the sticky rice is the perfect texture and consistency. The ambiance of this place is great too, it's very beautifully decorated and clean. It's obvious that they put a lot of time and thought into the decor. Taking off one star because of the service here. We came here around 3 PM on a Saturday and while there were tons of empty seats around, it felt like we were being rushed to finish eating and then leave. We were mainly served by TK, who made us feel rather unwelcome throughout our meal. For example, they were clearing unused plates off the table as we were eating even though we (2 people) had a table for 4 and there was really no need to. Then, they brought over the payment device when we asked for to-go boxes for our entrees, only to realize as they were tapping around that we still had not gotten our dessert. So they stopped and brought out our dessert. Then in the middle of eating our dessert, they brought over the payment device again and my husband had to stop eating to pay. He couldn't properly decide how much he wanted to tip because they were holding the device up to him and he felt pressured to just tap some percentage on the screen for the tip. The lowest percentage for tip on their payment device was 18%, but I don't know if I can say that their service was deserving of that. This entire experience just left us wondering what the rush was and why they were so insistent that we immediately pay while we were still enjoying the end of our meal. We did have outside drinks (didn't see the small sign on the door until we were leaving) but was told by TK when we were ordering that it was fine, we just couldn't drink it. We fully respected and abided by that throughout our meal. However, we still did notice TK eyeing the drinks (and us) our whole time there--from when we first walked in to when we were leaving. If outside drinks were such a problem (which is totally understandable), then they could have let us know instead of saying it was fine and then making us uncomfortable anyway. Hopefully this was just a one-off occurrence--we'll still be back as we really love their food but we're hoping for better service next time. read more
