I came to Andersen Bakery to pick up food for my brother. I occasionally come with my mom, but she asked me to get him a Meat Lovers sandwich. When I come with others, I usually order the kale salad or the vegetarian pizza or creamy french. I have no complaints about the quality of the food. However, the staff has been somewhat unwelcoming over the past months. The man who rung my order up was really not in the mood to be there. I understand that you're probably tired, but there's no need to make things awkward when a customer approaches you all friendly and you give an off-vibe. I also work in food service and it was a surprise, but I just shrugged it off and waited for my order. Usually younger people are more friendly, but this worker was not feeling up to it. read more

I have been by here a lot and never stopped by. I had business to do in the area and decided, why not? Before posting my review, I had to laugh at some of the reviews. Some people are so critical about things that are just out of the employees control. As you walk in, you juice the open welcoming space. All clean and everything in its place. Great job. Great selection of breads and sweets. I realized they had sandwiches, but opted for something sweet and a coffee. I ordered a dulce de leche sliced roll and a almond milk latte. The roll was delicious and not too much. Sometimes you get caramel sweets and after a few bites, you just can't anymore. Not with this one. It was consumed to its entirety. The latte one the other hand was too hot and watery. I am not sure if they add more water than needed to their espresso shot, but I didn't even get any foam. I noticed when she was making the latte, she left the milk steaming, so I assume it is an automatic espresso machine. I basically just got a coffee with milk. Overall, I think this place is a solid 3-4. I will be back to try more sweet baked good and a sandwich. The back end staff seems like they are hard workers and always busy. Andersen has been my go to for fresh and "healthy" sandwiches for almost a decade. It all started with Grain D'or at Newpark Mall which changed names, and then this Andersen opened up in Union Landing. I haven't dropped by in about two years because that's how long it's been since their renovations, but my mom's bought me food from here. It looks a lot brighter now! The registers are no longer on the left, instead they're directly in front after entering. Pastries and breads. Prices have hiked up but the quality is still delish. *cream cheese walnut-- get it sliced ~$2.65 *blueberry or strawberry or new mango with coconut Danishes for a subtly sweet treat you won't feel too bad about eating because there's fruit! $2.90 each *pesto cheese bread (thought it was a focaccia) heated up and sliced-- they include a quarter slice with whole soup or salad orders *creamy French baguette for sweet tooths *Strawberry cake with whipped topping is light, fluffy, and great for birthdays. They have Kouign Amann pastries now? Popping up all over the Bay. I first had one at Philz Coffee but preferred the one from here: sweet sticky bottom with flaky layers, a few pecans scattered inside. Really, I found four or so. Sandwiches. My favorite is Farmer's Market Chicken Salad with apple slices mixed in, topped with burnt almond slices and plenty of alfalfa sprouts! I go for the whole grain bread, yum. Also available on a croissant for an additional charge. They use three slices of whole grain and pile on the ingredients before slicing it in half. I have a habit of separating the bottom slice of bread with filling and eating it after the top half so it's like eating 4 halves, 2 open face. *The turkey with fresh mozzarella and tomato is good too. They add basil! Salads. The Caesar salad is ok, seems like they use Parmesan comparable to Kraft in the green shaker instead of freshly shaved cheese. Issues with the chicken-- $1.50 extra even on the Choose 2 options (1/2 sandwich, small soup, small salad) and sometimes we get old rubbery chicken! I realize not everyone walks in determined to order a side of chilled sliced chicken, but for an extra charge I'd like to be able to eat what I paid for. There have been a couple of times where I threw it away. Mom used to get the chicken fruit salad bursting with vibrant strawberries, tangerines, grapes, and apple slices on mixed greens with a side of orange? vinaigrette. I wonder if they still have that. Andersen's Bakery~ As a Chain, I'm usually satisfied here with certain expectations. However, this location seems to disappoint me rather consistently. Their sandwiches are pretty average priced for the East Bay, and of average taste. But again, this location falls short compared to other locations for a few consistencies. 1. Their Eggplant Mozarella rarely has any filling for me most of the time. 2. Their Ciabatta when toasted will cut the roof of your mouth more than Captain Crunch. 3. The pastry section display to the left of the register often has some fruit flies floating about. Totally gross. I'm glad they remodeled awhile back, and it looks nicer, but the sandwiches here are very subpar. Even compared to other Andersens. I won't be going back. read more

The pastries are fresh and delicious! I'll come back for those. As for the food, I will never order anything from them again. I had a chicken salad sandwich a few days ago and got food poisoning. I know it was this because this was the last thing I ate. A few hours after, I began to have a fever. If you ever had food poisoning you already know how horrible it is. I am truly sad and traumatized as this is a go-to place for me. I can no longer trust their food. I am putting 5 stars only for the strawberry pastry because that one is the best! read more

Just a word of caution for those who are more wary of interaction with others during Covid-19, I've been here 3x now and the employees are not very consistent with wearing gloves or changing gloves when handling the register, pastries and handing food orders to customers. Unlike many other businesses, you need to hand your cash/card to the employee and I was surprised that the employee was not gloved and returned my card to me. Of course, the staff has likely had her temperature taken and has no symptoms, it was a little surprising since I haven't had to do this at any other store/restaurant. Personally, I am OK with this as I've been out and about for a while now and it's my personal choice, but was just a little surprised. Really enjoyed today's pesto bread and the jalapeño cheese bread! Maria was super polite! I never said anything but she offered to get me freshly, pipen hot bread from the back instead of the ones on display. She also recommended not to cut it if I'm taking it to go because it would be messy and the filling would Pour out. It's those little things that make your experience great! Thank you! They take forever!!!!! Was so craving my fave Farmers chicken salad sandwich! I almost left cuz the first person was SUPER rude to start with, but I was starving. This is from the too good to go app orders. I've been here twice and paid about 6 dollars each time. With the first time I went being significantly better since I was able to get 2 flatbread pizzas and 2 sweet pastries. All of it was yummy and worth it in terms of value. 2nd time I got 2 croissants, butterfly cookie, and a loaf of raisin bread. Bread for the 2nd time was a bit dry and bland and wasn't worth the value at all. I'll certainly be back but you certainly won't always get something as delicious as you may want it. read more

I took the lettuce off as it was brown. The tuna salad sandwich was just as bad. These sandwiches were not made from the description. I have had both many times and I was shocked. I based my rating on how often I see myself frequent the establishment. I definitely can see myself come back here on a regular basis as long as the company I work for is nearby. I came here almost once a month or more for lunch. The 1/2 & 1/2 Mediterranean soup with chicken fruit salad combo for $7,50 That's real good for a lunch and the quality is really awesome....and that's how I rate my review is base on the food quality with the price. 4/4/22 - 10:20am this guy who has hearing problem doesnt pay attention to his customer order. I asked for 5 creamy french bread and he gave me 3. I ask for water and said u get it yourself in front. I ask for Napkins and said you wait i have another customer (when in fact I was the first one). After 5 mins still no napkins and I said my son is waiting outside. I've been coming here for a long time so well over due to write a review, surprised that I hadn't already. I always love the food here and have never had any complaints. Still don't. I will say though that I hope managers speak to staff and soon about customer service. My observation on my last visit was there were too many staff not really doing anything. The person taking the order never looked up or even made eye contact with me taking my order. No hello, thank you, nothing. For such a nice establishment, I really hope managers train their employees how to welcome and greet as this is so important when trying to keep business. There's lots of other sandwich places I can visit in the area. Also I notice a huge decline in cleanliness, there was no one hardly in the bakery and there wasnt one clean table???? Three staff fuffing around at the counter and not one clean table??? Come on. You guys were not busy. Every table had drink spilled or crumbs from person before. Why??? So, I'm compelled to write this review and as I say have no complaints about the food, the price is expensive though but you get a good healthy sandwich. What I'm more concerned about is if your staff continue to treat customers the way they do and dont clean tables and keep the place nicely presented then people will just go elsewhere! That would be a shame! Please train staff to welcome and be polite to customers, and please please clean the tables for customers to sit and eat on a clean table. Love Andersen's bakery for the combo deal! You can get half a sandwich with either a soup or salad, and for me, it's the perfect amount. I usually get the turkey and mozzarella with the clam chowder, and it is always delicious! The tuna salad sandwich is good as well, and so is the tomato ravioli :) The cream cheese walnut bread (toasted) is always a good bet; ask them to slice it for you, so it's easier to eat ;) Basically, there are lots of items to choose from, so if you like sandwiches, soups, salads and/or bread, you'll find something you like. This particular location is very spacious, so there's plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your meal. They also have different types of desserts here, I think I saw custard or maybe a fruit tart. Since i've been working in Hayward, i've been coming to this location to pick up breakfast or ordering pastries for my work meetings and sometimes a cake for an employees birthday. There was never a time that I was not provided with great service. Until I came here two weeks ago. My boss requested for creamy french. There was only 4 pcs left and I asked the cashier if I could get a couple more. He was hesitant and said that he could not and that was all they had. It was 8am and i've never had this problem before. He did not offer to check if it could be done he just simply said no. Very disappointing. I don't know if the caucasian guy still works there, but he was really nice. I don't know his name yet he had great customer service and was always very helpful. Nice place for sandwiches and bread. Stopped by on my way out of town and ordered the Calif. BLT along with a cup of delicious butternut squash soup. The sandwich came with sourdough but I asked for 9 grain instead which was toasted to perfection! The sandwich also came with cucumbers and sprouts which were not listed on the menu board. I was feeling the hunger pangs mid shopping trip and stopped into Andersen Bakery for a quick, casual lunch since it was convenient. I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich, which features deli meat chicken and avocado. I opted for sourdough bread, of course. My order came out in about 10 minutes. It was a sizable meal, since the bread slices are large. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't toast the sandwich, and made a mental note to request that if possible in the future. He assured me that would not happen again but I guess the joke was on me because when I got back to work, zero raviolis in the soup! I called and complained to the manager which offered a refund. Really impressed with how clean this place is. I usually only see it inside Great Mall. You don't get slammed with the fresh bread smell but you definitely smell it as you're inside longer. I love the schedule they have for patrons who love fresh bread. I can't help but love fresh baguettes. But for me, the best bread they carry here is the loaf of English bread. When toasted, it's always nice and crispy, and doesn't flake everywhere. Plain bread never tasted good until I had the English bread here. It took a couple minutes to place our order due to what looks like understaffing issues. We didn't get exceptional customer service yet we didn't get bad service either. I was so craving for chocolate cake and thats how I went to Anderson's Bakery. Altough they did not had the one I was craving for but I took there chocholate pound cake and that was sooo yummmy. My husband's favoutite one is mango cake nd there mango and denish pastrt was lip smacking Freaking awesome taste it was We had our Interaction with the shift supervisor named ISAAC. I rarely do updated reviews, so this one is worth it! Andersen Bakery is LITERALLY killin' it with its renovated interior, awesome menu design, and new bakery items!! My family enjoys dining here on a weekly basis - it is unreal how this Andersen has grown since its opening :'). Do the 1/2 soup and 1/2 sandwich (or really, anything else Andersen offers)!! Vegetarians and meat-eaters-who-want-to-eat-a-vegetarian-meal take note: I have recently discovered the combo of putting together my favorite soup: tomato basil ravioli and the tomato caprese avocado sandwich (on ciabatta). It is a tomato heaven and the sandwich is actually so legit. Pretty large portions will keep you full way past dinner time. Keep up the great work Andersen! It gets packed during the lunch hours nowadays, so I would come here if a tablet or good book. :) Free wifi, too (see older review)! The only complaint I have here is that it gets kind of loud with all the patrons who dine for lunch. Dec,13,2014, it is after this Anderson Bakery's remodel, re-opening. I went there today. Just order clam chowder soup and apple pastry. 1) the place look more open (they knock down one wall) Look very spacious, much nicer. 2) the employee(the one serve me) is super-polite. Maybe re-opening. (that is nice). 3) See, I think some-other-place (don't want to name here) 's clam chowder is better than here. BUT, I like the pastry here, a lot of different from some cheese pastry to apply pastry and others. 4) I found out, you could pre-order stollen and Yule-Log, that is very nice. Will come back again.
