My Daughter and I were looking for a place to have Breakfast. We found Andy's Great Place For Breakfast, waiter and waitresses are kind.

My friend heard good things about Andy's Coffee Shop, so we came in to give it a try. We went on a Saturday, and it was packed, with people standing in line both inside and outside. Inside of Andy's coffee shop, there are a bunch of different pictures and advertisements on wooden walls. There's tables, booths, and people can also eat at the counter. The place is casual, and has an older, diner-vibe to it. I ordered a cup of coffee and the soyrizo, which was served with rice, beans, tortillas and a side of salsa. Their staff were very attentive and continuously refilled my coffee. I even asked one of the workers for some hot sauce, and she was so great that she brought three different types: Tobasco, Tapatio, and salsa, which totally made my day. Holy Corn Smut! Native to Mexico, corn smut aka Huitlacoche is found on maize and caused by fungus. Doesn't sound all too appetizing, but for what it's worth, it's one of those Andrew Zimmern experiences you can have right in good ol' Pasadena. A truly exotic flavor that Andy brings all the way from Mexico. They capture the very flavor of this exotic smut or better yet mushroom and cook it up so good, you will be wanting more. It's all about their Huitlacoche breakfast tacos. There's no other place around here that serves up a truly authentic Mexican Style breakfast. The smoky wild mushroom flavor with perfect beaten eggs in a soft corn tortilla is the official breakfast taco on steroids. Andy's has been around since the 1930s so they know what it's like to continue to surpass fast food joints. After decades they still uphold what other originals eventually compromise with time and that's care and quality. My family and I started a new tradition here at this little coffee shop on East Colorado, so it will always have a place in my heart. For two years now, we have enjoyed a family breakfast after the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Great times and food! The staff is outstanding in every way possible. I was searching for a new breakfast place to try and I found this diner on Yelp and I was amazed of how busy it was on a Sunday at 11AM. The décor was a little outdated and my friend and I sat a booth. The table was attached to the wall and was extremely loose. We felt like if we put any more weight on the table, it would fall. As for the food, I ordered the Andy's Super Breakfast Burrito and my friend ordered the Country Fried Chicken Steak along with Banana Pancakes. The portion was large and the prices were fair. Service was a bit slow. I asked the waitress I wanted a refill on my water but by the time she came back (she forgot the pitcher), we were done with our plates and ready to pay. Andy's Diner is an old and "old school" diner in the heart of Pasadena that boasts serving breakfast and lunch "for generations. The decor and atmosphere ( ie the red vinyl booths, wall photos of Marilyn Monroe and Lucille Ball, and big band music) definitely backs up their claim of being around for generations. It is truly a basic, no frills diner. There is definitely no mimosa and crepe bar at Andy's. My son and I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The diner was surprisingly packed. Rather than waiting for a booth, we opted to sit at the counter. We ordered the Huevos a la Mexicana (Andy's menu has a Mexican specialities page) and Two Eggs Breakfast and Meat. The Huevos was a ginormous mountain of rice and beans tostada (with two crispy corn tortillas) and two eggs on top- lathered with generous blanket of cheese, tomato, onions and jalapeño peppers. It was A LOT of heavy goodness that will help with your afternoon nap. The Two Eggs and Meat (bacon) dish was good too- with generous serving of (six) mangled bacon strips, which were a bit over cooked but some people like that kind of crispy crunch. Service was great and super friendly. The price is also reasonable. Only minor complaint is the food does come out a bit slow but if you have company (like I did), the wait was a good opportunity to chat and bond. A favorite of mind in regards to the California omelette. Wife and I had stayed in a hotel nearby and debated the breakfast choices in the area. Chose this on a whim and loved it. Overall, I liked the food; I would've given more stars if we would have gotten everything we ordered. That being said, I also had to chase down the bill, and when I tried to pay, they didn't have a bill for us and had to repeate our order so we could be charged. I gave them our order and mentioned the things that never came. They didn't even offer a discount and just asked for the total. I recently had the unfortunate opportunity to dine at Andy's Coffee Shop and I must say, it was an incredibly disappointing experience. From the moment I walked in, I was met with a lack of basic hospitality and professionalism that left me utterly unsatisfied. To begin with, the restaurant failed to provide me with a menu after waiting 10 minutes after sitting in my booth. It's perplexing how a supposedly established establishment could overlook such a fundamental aspect of the dining experience. But the issues didn't stop there. As I was settling into my booth, I was rudely interrupted by the Latina manager and asked to move to another table. The lack of courtesy and disregard for customer comfort was astounding. It seemed as though they had no regard for the inconvenience caused, as if my experience didn't matter to them at all. But, we left and immediately went to The Reyn Coffee Shop (only half a mile away) and was met with the most gracious staff, better prices, amazing food, better menu selection, and good atmosphere, where we were able to tip the 30% that they deserve! DO NOT EAT AT ANDY'S COFFEE SHOP AND AVOID THIS UNPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE!! read more

I came in on a Thursday morning around 11. Plenty of street parking. I love diners. This one is about 4 blocks west of PCC. It's right along the Rose Parade route on Colorado. I can see why Mad Men was filmed here. Anna Kendrick's Cups music video was also filmed here. Lots of studio people must come here. Steve O (Jackass) has his own quesadilla named after him. Lots of pics on the wall. Very nostalgic feel. Service is slow. I sat at the counter for 10 mins before I was acknowledged. Luckily there was a menu nearby. Found out there was only 1 busser and 1 waitress for 10 tables. 1/2 of them were regulars. LOVE THAT! I got my food within 5 mins of ordering. (Andy's breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon). We are very disappointed with service this morning. Our experience was the following; it was a busy morning for one waitress to take orders and handle cashier. The dishwasher was coming in and out of kitchen busing dishes, washing dishes, serving water, coffee etc . Our order was messed up, hash browns somewhat burnt. They need more help!!! We have been frequent customers for years but having this experience we will not be returning. I think the owners are trying to safe a buck at customers expense. read more

8/20 Andy's is hanging in there during covid. For that I am giving it another star and encourage you to try it. I still love the beans and salsa, which is what I ordered pretty much every time. I ordered a short stack of pancakes, which is three giant pancakes. They were good. My spouse loves the breakfast burrito. Now that we are venturing out to eat, we're going to consciously support the mom and pop places we love. This is one. My friend and I went two weekends in a row. The second weekend, we had another friend in tow. I've found that as I get older, I'm becoming more particular about my food. Not quite Sally of When Harry Met Sally, but less afraid to order something with an ingredient on the side or taken out. I was born in that state to the right of us. Please, it was not my choice. Half of my family came from the states to the south of that 3 or 4 generations ago. My grandmother was a phenomenal, and my mother very very good, cooks. I just want good ingredients cooked well. I bring my own syrup for breakfast because I want real maple syrup. I was not digging the menu that first time. It's late morning. Im veering into hangry territory. Yeah, yeah, chilaquiles. It's Pasadena. Roll my eyes. Okay, eggs. What. Ever. I forgot the syrup. My friend was regretting not administering hot chocolate when she first picked me up at this point. I saw a breakfast burrito. I went off the menu. I think if you take stuff of and are willing to pay the same price it should be good. I told the waitress that I wanted a burrito with beans, egg, cheese and avocado. No bacon. No papas. She asked if I wanted beans on the side. Sure! The more beans the better. The cook did just as I asked and the salsa was something I could drink I loved it so much. Mexico has a lot of regions so I know after nearly *coughty five years here, it's nigh on impossible to find salsa I like. There are two other places but that's partly because I stopped trying. It's simple fare. My friend had eggs, bacon, toast, and Apple Jacks! Where is cold cereal part of a breakfast except for in every cereal commercial you've seen if you are a certain age around Gen X? We returned the next week. We got a different waiter. I now understand the bean issue now, since there were no beans in my burrito. They were on the side. Beans, cheese, egg and avocado. This order is very hard for another place I go, so I'm not going to hold it against them. If the burritos usually don't have beans inside than just on the side I'll chock it up to miscommunication. This time. The service is slow. I'm pretty sure there is only one waitress, one bus boy, and one man who is in training to be a waiter. Still, it's. a. diner. Some places sling hash fast to get you in and out, but those are usually chains. I've found I keep my sanity better in diners if I slow down, give it at least an hour, and enjoy the company of my companion. If you like going back in time, things were much slower then. It's going to take as long as it takes. It helps not to go hangry. Don't go hangry. read more

Andy's Coffee Shop is no greasy spoon. Here an atmosphere can be felt that only comes from a good old time coffee shop. Dinner booths and a U-shaped bar offers plenty of dining options. I like eating in the booths. This is a great place to meet friends for breakfast or just eat solo. In the 10 years (and counting) that I have been eating here their food has always been excellent and their servers are friendly and helpful. Here are my favorite food items I order when I visit. No.12 MEXICAN OMELET with Onions, Tomatoes, and Serrano Chilies (I like to add bacon & cheese) Served with hash browns and choice of bread. CHORIZO AND EGGS $10.25 Their chorizo & eggs are not swimming in grease. This is my favorite go to item and it's served with rice, beans and choice of corn or flour tortillas. MACHACA $10.75 Scrambled eggs, shredded beef, bell peppers, onions and tomatoes, Served with rice, beans and choice of tortillas. CHILAQUILES $9.25 Pan fried tortilla strips in red or green sauce, with onions, cheese and 2 eggs, served with refried beans. HUEVOS RANCHEROS $9.25 (2) Fried eggs with jalapeño pepper, green onion, and tomato sauce, served over a crisp pan fried corn tortilla. Served with rice and beans. (This is my second go to favorite) DOUBLE CHEESE BURGER with Fries This is one of the tastiest burgers in Pasadena. I love how they keep it simple. I did not notice any dressing in the burger and thats OK with me. All I could taste was delicious meat, cheese, butter toasted bun, lettuce & tomato. The fries were hot and crispy. First, let me say 3 stars because the food was great but the service was horrible. We've been to this old school diner several times. It's usually crowded with locals on the weekends, so expect a bit of a wait. They've packed so many tables in this tiny diner, that many people seemed to have trouble comfortably sliding into the booths and the arrangement of the booths is a veritable maze. On this visit, we went early and were seated immediately. A nice young man named Brangel brought us coffee and tea right away. Then the wait began. Tick tock...15 minutes later we started trying to waive down the waitress (Cami) who we'd seen serving other near us. Eventually we got some's attention who told Cami to go take our order. To say Cami was surly and cold would be a gross understatement. Keep in mind, it wasn't busy yet. Cami: Are you ready to order? Us: Yes, we were ready 15 minutes ago. Cami: blank stare, no apology or acknowledgement. Orders delivered without the obvious extras, such as butter for the pancakes and grits and then when she did bring, it was one tiny little butter tub. It was almost funny. She never came back to ask if everything was okay or if we wanted anything else or if we were ready for our check. If this place were really inexpensive, I wouldn't have complained at all. But when I drop almost $30 for breakfast, I expect a smile at the very least. read more

They had great breakfast choices ,amazing hot coffee and the service was awesome and the food came out extremely fast. They also have vegan and vegetarian items which I went for . It's a cool lil vintage coffee shop. they shot an episode of mad men there before too the pictures on the wall and so is the history it's pretty neat & it's right along the route of the New Year's day tournament of roses Parade. I do not think I will be visiting Andy's anymore. I had breakfast there this morning, and the service was horrible. I ordered CB hash and coffee. When the waitress brought me my food, she advised me that the toast would be coming. I waited and waited and almost finished my meal. I asked another female server or helper about my toast. She brought me the toast that had been sitting. I advised her it was cold, and she gave me the dirtiest look. She took it back and never brought me my toast. By this time, I was finished. My original waitress brought my toast after I brought it to her attention, and she never apologized. We had one cup of coffee and never offered a refill. There were two females and one busboy on the floor. No teamwork. Our bill was $50, which I had no problem paying as long as I received proper service. I understand things happen, and we forget, but not making the effort to make it better is no excuse. This morning after leaving my car to be service and was looking for early morning breakfast. This coffee shop was near by and read the reviews about past experiences. I took a chance and the omelet with avocado and hash browns hit the spot. The restaurant has that old coffee shop feel and pictures on the wall are pretty cool. My husband & I take the kids here once a month on Saturday. Try to get there early because they are always packed and busy. Old school diner with excellent cooks & great customer service. Food delivery drivers were standing around both inside and outside to pick up and deliver orders to their awaiting customers. Additionally, the complete order for our table didn't come out together. I've been driving by this old school restaurant for years and never stopped in to try out the food. The waitress said it's been around for a hundred years but more than likely 70 years or so. I came in for breakfast and ordered the Breakfast Burrito which comes with a side of refried beans. The burrito is a good size and was very tasty when I added the hot salsa which wasn't super hot. But that's only part of the story the rest of the menu is typical Americana. I hadn't been here for about 20 years and back then it wasn't so great but it's undergone a revitalization full of local people and college folks, a real family atmosphere. Outstanding! I really enjoyed breakfast at Andy's Coffee Shop. They have excellent fresh food and customer service. I went in with my Dad for breakfast on a Wednesday morning and we were seated immediately and welcomed. We ordered a breakfast burrito and bacon & eggs with two coffees. The portions were big and the food was delicious, plus fresh coffee. Definitely enjoyed coming to this place, we'll be back to try more dishes. I would give them negative stars if I could. We have been coming there for years and we have never had a problem. Today on the other hand it was different experience. We checked in for a party of 6. It was not that busy so they said 15-20 minutes. All of a sudden it's started getting hectic and I think they forgot about us. When I saw all these people coming in before us and getting seated I asked how much longer and she said 25 more minutes on the of the half an hour we had already waited. I honestly thought they forgot but she wouldn't admit it. She apologized and said all those people had checked in before us........ so unfair and poorly handled.
