They're overpriced and the cashier is rude. I wish they have better prices. They also need to have the bigger cheaper season fries.

Unfortunately, this was a really disappointing experience. The woman taking our order did not seem to know what Celiac disease or gluten even was, and became visibly annoyed when I asked basic questions about food preparation and cross contamination. When I asked about the prep station and whether gloves or utensils could be changed, she refused to ask the cooks. From what I was told, nearly everything shares the same grill. The only item that might potentially be safe would be eggs cooked in a separate pan, but without changing gloves or utensils, even that would not actually be safe for someone with Celiac disease. I ended up not eating at all. I actually left my party and waited in the car because I wanted to cry. It was embarrassing and honestly heartbreaking to feel like asking questions to protect my health was treated like an inconvenience. I completely understand not every restaurant can accommodate Celiac, but kindness, honesty, and basic understanding go a long way. I hope the staff can receive better education about food allergies and cross contamination in the future.

The burger was genuinely very good--not life-changing gourmet food, but exactly what a classic American burger should taste like. The best way I can describe it is like an elevated old-school burger. Similar spirit to In-N-Out in its simplicity, but juicer like if burlesque was a burger. You're going for the atmosphere, the history, and the feeling of stepping into a different era of California. Overall: * Food: 5/5 * Atmosphere/Nostalgia: 5/5 * Parking: 3.5/5 * Service: 5/5 * Value: 4/5 Not necessarily a mandatory stop for tourists unless you really love historic food institutions, but if you live in L.A., it's absolutely worth visiting at least once. So why the 4-stars instead of the 3 I gave them nearly a decade ago? Because that burger was freakin' good! $40 good? Probably not. And their fries were pretty bad. But man... It's been a couple of days and I'm still thinking about that damn thing. PS: It seems like they're hit-or-miss, so I guess proceed at your own risk. I must've just gotten lucky that day.

Friend, now I know what food is like in prison. The gravy was a bland, featureless runny liquid (no, even runnier than you're thinking), devoid of any seasoning whatsoever. I legitimately believe they dug a pan that used to have gravy in it out of the dirty dishes, swished some water around in it and poured it on my plate. The "biscuits" were hardly any better, lacking any hint of butter or flake, instead seeming like someone stirred up some Bisquick and threw it on the flattop grill. This meal was an insult and a punishment, and as part of a $70 check it felt like I was being personally invited to a fistfight by the dumpster. Alas, I had somewhere else to be. And somewhere else, anywhere else, is what I'll choose next time when breakfast is due. For reference, biscuits and gravy should include round, buttery, flaky biscuits using dough that was rolled out, cut, and baked. Gravy in this context is a richer, creamier milk gravy with substance, at minimum seasoned with fresh cracked pepper and perhaps some paprika. Offering a sausage gravy wouldn't hurt either. Or don't offer biscuits and gravy at all if you don't know what the f**k you're doing.

We ordered the Mac and cheese, tomato Creole soup, catfish poboy, blt, and pastrami Reuben. Then we got a peace of derby pie. Here are my thoughts. Mac and cheese: great! Super flavorful and cheesey Tomato Creole soup: so flavorful and delicious. Very comforting Catfish poboy: the fish was too bland, I think it had been frozen because I really missed out on that dirt catfish taste. Got the sweet potato fries with it which were amazing. Blt: loved the addition of bell pepper Pastrami Reuben: loved the rye bread and really good, even if a little dry Derby pie: no notes I LOVED it Want to come back some time to try the dinner menu. They were pretty busy at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday but did not wait for a seat. Ordered the $17 burrito and was expecting something to be handheld but they do it ranchera style with red sauce and cheese topped all around it and on the sides and I'm glad they did because it was delicious. Well worth it; I eat burritos half this size for the same price in downtown LA. Ordered a side of hash browns they were solid as well. Only gripe would be that there wasn't much bacon or sausage in it (comes with both but needs more of both.) Melaniya served me proper. This was a great start we'll definitely be back to try the waffles always a gamble finding a crisp one, but they claim it so we will find out soon enough. It's a bit stuffy inside and loud as hell strange for a diner to be this loud but just saying. Still for what I ate it's an easy table pounder five star. That's a sign of a great restaurant. When we went in, the servers were welcoming and it was packed on a Friday morning. We waited a few minutes before getting to our table and our server Gabby was the sweetest. She suggested the omelette (I forgot what specific type) and I'm so glad I took her suggestion. My food was awesome, a lot better than I was expecting. At first, I thought my portion was a little small, but I couldn't even finish my plate! The food is filling, flavorful, and everything was perfect. The positive ambience is a reflection of the quality service, food, and overall perspective of this restaurant. I thought it was so beautiful to see a bunch of elderly people coming for a morning mimosa, having coffee, reading, newspapers, and just mingling with each other. It gave me something to look forward to when I get older. I got a little sad when I seen a few elderly people alone. But when I realized maybe they go to Shakers because this is where their community is, I really felt the love. Go check it out, see what I'm talking about. I promise you won't regret it.

When we tried getting his attention he did not acknowledge us a couple times and we had to ask for things a couple times. Make the long story short, the food was blah. My husband had a burger. We had four items from the kids menu. I had the Cobb salad. When I went to pay, it was over $100! The food is so so expensive here and so mediocre. They have a $20 burger.
