WOW!!!! We were blown away by the fantastic food and great service. This was our first time here and we can't wait to go back. Celebrated my sons birthday and Tony, the owner, asked his name, to personalize it, and all the wait staff came to sing happy birthday. It's was really a great touch that makes this place a standout!!! And the FOOD..... it speaks for itself. We started with the fried artichoke hearts. They were juicy and flavorful and so delicately breaded, and not a trace of greasiness. Veal Saltimbocca, Chicken Marsala, Veal Parmigiana, Chicken Armenta did not disappoint! Each one was so flavorful and spectacularly satisfying. The by the glass wine selection was outstanding. And DESERT!!!!! Tiramisu in a martini glass, Limoncello Cheesecake and Dark Death by Chocolate fed all of us with some to bring home. Superb! Everything about Angeli's is top shelf! Was visiting family in the Rockford area and decided we would have dinner there about a 90 mile drive! The food was as good as we remember it to be as we no longer live in the Chicago area We started with shrimp dejonghe which was so full of flavor and could have had another order. Then we had salads with the best creamy garlic dressing and finally the veal piccata which is really the best we've had at any Italian restaurant! Haven't been here in quite some time, but I'm now curious why. We started with a crab cake appetizer. It was very good. I ordered one of the nightly specials, Sausage Pomodor. Sliced Italian sausge, peppers, and a spicy red sauce (spicy by requst) served over linguine. Very good. Wife ordered another daily special; Roasted Gnocchi. The dishes were delicious, and also huge. (We had the same dinner the next day with the leftovers.) Nice wine list, too. We had a very nice bottle of Primitivo. Wine prices are reasonable compared to some restaurants that literally charge three times retail price for a bottle. Our server, Therese, was awesome, too. We had a last minute need for a funeral dinner for 20 people, on a Saturday evening, on Mother's Day weekend. My rating is in the 3.5 neighborhood but too many issues to go with 4. This is a family operation; the owner was very active in the dining room. Enjoyable decor. Italian bread had good crust but tasted like one day old with dry interior. Excellent pasta e fagioli soup. Shrimp appetizer was uninspired. Very good house salads with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My wife had veal marsala and I went with veal parmesan. Both were somewhat tough. There was way too much breading on the parmesan. Pasta sides were good. Reasonably attentive service; a little slow on bar order delivery. That's the story. A little disappointing. Our friends had other entrees; my take-away is go with the traditional red sauce entrees and avoid the veal. read more

Food was delicious I just wish that our service was better organized by the host and kitchen. We had a rather large party for a family member (15 people) and rather than putting us in the back room away from the entrance and exit - we were right in the front having to move during our dining experience. When ordering our food I feel as if providing kids meals first is a known thing to push first, rather almost all 9 adults were served their foods first before the kids, which was harder to maneuver and prep for the toddlers we had especially since we didn't have much room to work with. read more

We've driven by this small restaurant many times and always wanted to try it. My mother-in-law got me a gift certificate so tonight was the night to see what it's all about. The first thing you need to know is you better make a reservation as it's a very busy place. We arrived for our early 5:30pm reservation and was seated right away. Before you knew it, the place was packed. We were greeted and seated at our table with red checked table clothes under glass tops, and met by Georgia, a pleasant young lady who was eager to serve. We got the run down on the specials and ordered a bruschetta to start wIth. It wasn't your normal dish made with Garlic toast, topped with the freshest tomatoes, onions, & basil, and sprinkled with parmesan. It was their special with mushrooms, spinach and topped with melted cheese. It was tasty but not a little dryer than what I expected. My wife and daughter split their classic meat lasagna handmade in house with the finest ingredients and covered with a delicious red sauce. I highly recommend that. I had the Veal Marsala with sautéed veal in a marsala wine sauce with mushrooms, served over pasta and a generous amount of broccoli and carrots. Not an overwhelming taste you couldn't resist, but very good and worth every bite. Before our meals we had fantastic salads. The girls split the house salad with romaine lettuce with fresh tomatoes, black olives, and red onion and I had the Caesars salad. It had just the right amount of dressing and fresh croutons. The house salad had fresh crispy lettuce and a good smount of additions. Everything was tasty and not iverbear with a strong tastes. They do have desserts but if you're going to hhabe that, you better leave enough room for it. We were so stuffed we couldn't even eat them. They do look very good so next time I'm in. The service was very good with attention to service, clearing tables quickly and keeping the drinks full. The place filled up and was packed by 6pm. Don't expect to have an intimate conversations sit was loud but not too loud to loses conversations. I suggest you make your reservations and check it out. The food was delicious but not that WOW factor. I'd go again and again and again. Next time I'm trying their pizza. Enjoy! read more

2 years after my initial review, probably 4 or 5 additional visits, and still 4 star-worthy suburban Italian food. A recent trip involved me getting a steak for the first time and it was really good-Filet Jenella-about 7 oz. of trim filet with a marsala cream sauce on top (not exactly alfredo thickness) with mushrooms and a side of fettucine with marinara. I've ordered food from here several times, their cheese ravioli is good, definitely recommend it. Their butternut gnocchi is average, in my opinion it's too sweet of a sauce. Not awful, but wouldn't order again. The gnocchi is also stuffed with the butternut so you can't avoid that if you don't like butternut as this is their only gnocchi on the menu. read more

I've been here a time or two since my last review, and went yesterday for my grandmother's birthday dinner with a party of five. We started out with the Antipastio Della Casa, the house antipasto board laden with meats and cheeses as well as grapes, a dish of peppers and olives and my favorite: the pearls of fresh mozzarella doused with a thick, dark-chocolate-colored balsamic vinegar. I've had cheese boards at various restaurants and sometimes you get comparatively little and the board can be $20+. This was under $12 and loaded with variety! Everyone got the salads for starters (my creamy garlic dressing was tasty and not overly garlicky), but don't fill up because there's more to come! Pasta dishes are HUGE. I only made it through about half of my fettucini carbonara, delicious though it was. My parents and grandma each got the ravioli (cheese for two of them, one with meat sauce, one with marinara; and the portabella mushroom ravioli with a rich marsala cream sauce for my mom) and all enjoyed. My boyfriend tried the butternut squash gnocchi after I mentioned having butternut ravioli here in the past; he said the sauce was sweeter than expected (with the cream sauce and spices it is almost dessert!), but he seemed to enjoy it. We had stellar service from Arturo, who was gracious, friendly and made good suggestions. The setting is cozy, with murals on the walls, Christmas lights swagged from the ceiling, and that ever-present Sinatra still playing! my daughter and her boyfriend had made a reservation here several weeks ago. After they had been seated and been served their drinks they were tole they had to move....no apology was give just "someone else had reserved that specified table". The issue is my daughter can't walk, so moving for her is a big deal. Her boyfriend is a great guy and did not make a stink, and paid the bill (nothing was offered for their trouble of moving) and left. I found out what happened as we were eating Angeli's takeout....which i have been a fan of for years. I stopped in two weeks ago and spoke to the assistant manager, explained my concern at what happened, left my card and gave him the boyfriends's cell....figuring they would reach out to him to make amends....so far nothing. My husband and I went here last weekend for the first time! The service was impecable! From the great wine recommendation to the never empty basket of bread, we were very well treated. My husband got the chicken Marsala, and I got the portabella mushroom ravioli. I was hands down the winner for "who ordered the better dish?" (doesn't everyone play this game?) It was loaded with amazing flavor, it'll be hard to try anything new! We somehow made room and ordered the tiramisu for dessert, another win. We will definitely be back! read more

Great place to eat, the pasta and peas they recommend is really good and definitely a hefty portion for one person. It's a nice home cooked feeling meal. I also really like the calamari and the marinara sauce combo. My server Jake was super nice and provided excellent service and attending to me just enough. The ambience is like that of any classic Italian restaurant good music and definitely a cozy place for a date night. We ended up here because it was highly recommended. This restaurant is pretty old school and is non-descript in a small strip mall. It's bigger than I imagined it would be and every single time we've gone, it's been very busy. The staff - the staff is absolutely wonderful. We've always had attentive waiters/waitresses who give suggestions when asked. Someone is always coming by refilling glasses and seeing if we need anything. Owners and managers walk around greeting everyone periodically and it feels like you're a regular even if it's your first time. We've been here more than once and every time, we try something different to see what we like and what's good. * Pizza - pass on this. After seeing other people order one, I thought it was time we try it too. I love, love, love pizza and it looked like one that would be delicious with a crispy, yet light and chewy crust and delicious toppings. Alas...it was not. I got the Angeli's Special and although the toppings were good and the sausage flavorful, the crust left a lot to be desired. Like my husband said, it was like eating a frozen pizza crust. It wasn't good and we will never order pizza here again. * Appetizers - we've tried whatever special they have, as well as, bruschetta. We were underwhelmed by the bruschetta but the appetizer specials were always good. * Entrees - The ravioli was absolutely delicious. The Angry Butterflies made with bowtie pasta was decent. The sauce was good and well seasoned, however, the pasta was overcooked. There is nothing more disappointing than getting a huge plate of pasta and biting into mushy pasta. There was nothing al dente about it. I love the old school feel of this restaurant. It DOES get busy so making a reservation is preferable. The food is good enough for Italian. This restaurant has been around forever, that's when you know it's a gem. We went on a Friday and it was already pretty crowded at 5:15. My friend had the minestrone soup and I had a Caesar salad. The soup was filled with vegetables and noodles, not just broth like some places. Everything was delicious. Bread warm so the butter melts on it. We both had pasta. She had baked Mostaccioli and I had cheese ravioli with Bolognese sauce. Delicious!!! For dessert she had Spumoni ice cream and I had a turtle ice cream pie. read more

Such a great experience here! The food, atmosphere, and service were fantastic. We came here for dinner with my parents when my mom suggested Angeli's. The name sounded familiar and I realized I had their food in high school when a dance event was catered, but I had never been to the restaurant itself. Considering the fact that I've been out of high school for almost 12 years, you can say this restaurant has been around for a little while. We got here about 5:30 pm on St. Patrick's Day (clearly we weren't partaking in any crazy festivities this year), and were seated right away. About a half hour later the restaurant was full so we got there just in the nick of time. Our waiter was super nice and helpful, but as things got busy it did take a quite a bit of time on things. Luckily we had bread and oil, drinks, and great company to satisfy us while we waited. The food came out pretty quickly, but drink refills and the check were another story when the rush came in. Our waiter and the hostess apologized for the wait though and the staff seemed to be helping each other out to make sure things were taken care of. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their food. There were so many things I wanted to order, but I currently have to be on a low-fat diet due to gallstones (wah wah), so I had to choose wisely. That meant nothing super cheesy for me unfortunately. Luckily there were some healthy options and I was able to substitute any regular pasta dish for whole grain pasta! I forget the exact name of what I ordered, but it was basically grilled chicken with whole grain pasta, garlic, and veggies in a white wine sauce and it was very good! The portion size was huge too so it made for great leftovers. The people at Angeli's are truly great. You feel like you're dining at a friend or family member's house because everyone is so kind and down to earth. And like I said, the food is delicious. We will definitely be back again! read more

A friend recommended Angelis for a date night last week and we could not have been happier with the recommendation. It was our first time in and we were greeted promptly by our server, Kirstin who was wonderful. We let her know it was our first time and she was happy to give suggestions which we appreciated. Fried calamari was absolutely amazing and we wanted to get everything off the specials menu but decided on the scallops carciofi and the lamb chops. MY GOODNESS. Everything was amazing. We both were so full but couldn't stop eating. The restaurant was very busy for a Friday night but the patrons were moving and everyone had smiles on their faces. It felt very homey and welcoming.
