I've been waiting months to try this spot, and don't love super close. So when I was finally in the area, I decided to check it out, and I'm sure as hell glad I did! If you know me, you know I'm a huge Nashville hot chicken fan! I try to eat at every Nashville hot chicken place I can find. Unfortunately, there are only a few in sac. I visited during the pandemic and luckily, there was no wait! The service was incredible, greeted by a smiling face and when I placed my order (#1, one hot, one x hot) I was given a sample of the x hot just to make sure I knew what I was doing (this ain't my first rodeo, but thanks for checking on me!) and I decided to stick with that choice. When I got my box I couldn't wait to open it, so I did just that when I got on my car. Now, the two "sliders" would probably be considered whole sandwiches at any other establishment. Seriously, this meal could feed at least 3 people. I decided to go with the hot first. That was the perfect spice level for me (I love spicy) and next time, I'll probably get both hot. The x hot was so good but sooo hot. Like, on the verge of not really enjoyable hot. And the mound of fries with the side of sauce was insane! My one complaint is that it can get a bit messy. One tender in the sandwich is a little funky to eat, you'll get more bread than tender, which is why next time going to order the one slider and one tender, then put the other tender on the slider! Chicken! Chicken! Finally got a chance to check this place out. Came in on Christmas eve right when they opened at 11am and they were empty. Parking was no issue since it wasn't a rush lunchtime yet. They are located in the same plaza as Smash Burgers and AT&T. Once I walked in, I was immediately greeted. Since it was my first time there, I took a minute to look though their menu. Their menu is very simple. 4 different combo options to choose from. There are selections of sides as well. You order from the counter and seat yourself. It took about 10 minutes for the order which is reasonable for fresh food. They will call your order number and you will grab it from the front counter. There are indoor and outdoor seatings. I ordered combo #1, which contains 2 sliders and side of fries. I opted out pickles. You get to choose your own spice level. I got the mild which is good enough heat for me. My spicy tolerance is not high so mild level is probably the most I can handle from here. The chicken tenders were huge. Big and juicy. It would have been a tad better if it's more crunchier. It is super fresh though. The coleslaws that came with it helped balanced the heat. The special sauce was awesome. The sliders were huge. Not a regular size sliders. They're big like chicken sandwich sizes. You can pretty much share with another person. The service was good. The girl behind the counter was helpful. The guy that handed me the food was nice. Our absolute favorite place. We love spicy food and chicken so how can it get any better. The levels of spicy is no joke, if you ever see "Nashville" just know that it's more spicy than usual. Hubby always gets Hot and I stay at medium cause I wanna enjoy it without having to blow my nose every bite. The service is fast and they can help you choose which level is best for you. However, if you ingest raw, dry Angry pepper powder, in the case of clumps of it dislodging mid-bite and sweeping down your throat and into your airways, you will have a distinctly memorable experience! I thought I was crying but in reality, my tear ducts didn't have time to spool up because my sweat glands were already on the job and working hard! "Hot & New" always stands out to me and I saw a name and type of food I didn't recognize for this area...."The Angry Bird - Southern Food" and I saw hot crispy chicken sandwiches, so I showed my buddy a picture. Which just so happened to also be a photo used on their to-go menu (which we found out later) and his exact words were, "Oh we're going there right?" And so 15 minutes later we...were...there. As we pulled up we realized The Angry Bird is in the same plaza as Smash Burger, so someone has a new run for their money. After waking in we could see the place was bustling with people and we quickly brought our attention to the menu to get an idea of what to get, and I saw the different heat levels of their chicken sandwiches. The hottest of which is named "Angry" and requires a waiver to be signed in order to even have it....and they were out since at the moment since that one is so popular. One of the main things that made our experience great was the young lady at the register named Marta. She was so helpful and friendly, and seemed to be a genuinely caring person. She answered all of our questions easily, she didn't rush us as we tried to decide between all of the menu options, and the heat levels. She gave us a good understanding of the fact that their heat levels were a little deceptive, like medium she described as having a lot more heat than normal. And let us try a sample of the heat levels, since I wasn't sure between Hot and Medium. So she gave me the sauce and seasoning for those two on some fries, which I thought was really nice. And might I mentioned the sauce and seasoning on the fries were so bomb too. My friend and I eventually decided on two #1 combos (two crispy chicken sliders) in medium and mild w/crinkle cut fries, my girlfriend got a #3 Combo (1 chicken slider & 1 chicken tender on white bread) with fries and a side of pickle slices, and for our got the 1 chicken slider w/slaw and sliced pickles. After ordering we sat outside in the back patio area for maybe 10 minutes and then our order was ready...and those crispy chicken sliders were so fire! They looked exactly like the photos I saw that made me want to try this place, the chicken tender in each sandwich was HUGE and tasted amazing. They were fresh, crispy and delicious...everything tasted great, including the fries were the same seasoning as the mild version of the sandwiches. And the pickle slices on the side just added that nice little touch of cold, crisp and dill contrast. To that hot, crispy and spicy sandwich. OVERALL: As soon as we all took our first bite, we all literally said this place is getting a 5 star review. I was in the area and this was the first place that popped up for me to check out, which is perfect because it's my kind of food! It wasn't too far and the menu was small and simple. When I got to the angry bird I walked in and there was a small line, probably 4 people ahead of me. The place was full so it was pretty reassuring the food would be good. I'm not sure why, but the line felt like it took forever to move and place our order. Once I was able to place our order it took maybe 10-15 minutes to be ready. Prices were pretty fair. I ordered the 2 piece tender combo with fries and an extra tender. I figured that 2 tenders wasn't enough food, however they are massive pieces of chicken. I'm glad I only ordered 1 extra and not 2 extra tenders. The medium tenders were juicy, the outside was crispy, however the batter was just falling off the chicken. The flavor was alright, I'm not sure why but there was a strong flavor of oil from the fryer I'm guessing. The fries were crispy and smooth inside. The seasoning on the outside didn't seem to provide much taste so without ketchup they were kind of plain. We also ordered the Mac n cheese. It wasn't particularly cheesy and kind of bland. If I were in the area again I might decide to have come back and give it another try, but it's not something I would go out of my way for. It's all white bread lol this combo doesn't come with coleslaw on the sandwich like the #1 does. Combo 3- you get one slider and one on white bread. It's for the Indecisive. See, you can have it your way. Combo 4-not feeling the bread, but you want to get your carbs on? The tenders come served over rice, coleslaw etc seriously cheap and filling eats. Some like it hot, some like it not... your chicken can be prepared with various heat levels. From wimpy no spice to sign a waiver because your insides will feel the burn for a long time. I loved this place! They offer a full halal menu which is amazing for those with dietary restrictions who are always looking for fried chicken options. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the fried chicken sliders with the slaw. The fries are delicious with their sauce. I would say the Mac n cheese is about average. Having had Dave's Fried Chicken in LA (which this is very similar to), I wanted to be very cautious with the spice level. I'm typically a very spicy level, but last time I went spicy in LA, it was bad. I opted for Mild, but I do wish I had opted for Medium. The table next to us tried the spiciest level and they said it was unbelievably spicy. The service here was also amazing. The girl who was working the register around 12:40pm on 10/26/19 was great. Winner winner chicken dinner! And this ain't your average run-of-the-mill restaurant. This is none other than "The Angry Bird" which happens to be the first of their kind in the Sacramento area. And best of all, this is in my hometown of Citrus Heights! In addition to this new location, they actually have two other locations in the Southern California area; one in Hollywood and another in Van Nuys. As much of a chicken fanatic as I am, this was a place I just HAD to check out! The location itself is in a small strip-mall on Sunrise Blvd. in the heart of the Sunrise Marketplace. It neighbors several other businesses including an AT&T store, Smashburger, and Kenny G Fine Jewelers. The building itself actually replaced the short lived "Deli Delicious" sandwich shop (where I coincidentally attended a Yelp event back in December 2017) that only lasted just over one year. I came here with my lovely lady on the evening of Friday 7/19/19. Parking can be a bit tricky considering the size of the already cramped lot. Since it was a warm summer evening, we decided to park in the back where there was plenty of ample shade. Once entering the business, the layout was exactly the same as the restaurant that was here prior. However, you will notice bright burnt-red walls, a colorful Nashville art piece, and a cartoonish picture of an angry bird. Additionally, there are bright red chairs with black tables as well as self-serve condiment and fountain drink area. Based on the Yelp reviews that I read prior to dining here, their portions are very generous. Therefore, the wife and I decided on splitting a combo meal. We chose their most popular choice, the "Combo #1". This included two hot chicken sliders w/coleslaw, pickles, and a side of seasoned fries. We opted for our coleslaw on the side. And to drink, we went with a Mr. Pibb. Total price for everything after tax was an amazingly affordable $15; not bad for a meal for two. Now some people like it hot and some people like it VERY hot! I am not a spicy food fan. Therefore, I only went with their "mild" heat level while she went one notch spicier with their "medium" heat level. After one bite, I was absolutely sold! The chicken had a kick of spice but it was definitely palatable. The coleslaw actually helped the cool/heat factor. The bun itself was spongy and soft; much like the ones they serve at In-N-Out Burger. Overall, this was an extremely tasty sandwich and nothing like what you'd find at KFC, Popeye's, or Chick-Fil-A. Even the fries which had a light dusting of salt and paprika were more than enough to feed both of us. Overall, I see myself making many future visits to "The Angry Bird". With the top notch customer service we received complete with a very filling meal at an affordable price, I couldn't help but give this newbie restaurant in Citrus Heights a perfect five stars. But damn, she was right for asking... hot is hotter than hot at most places. I love spicy food, but in hindsight I probably should have dialed back a little this time (being only two weeks post-op from abdominal surgery). Anyway, I survived... my sinuses are cleared, and sweat wiped up from my forehead and back of neck. I've had the highest level of heat offered at places like Buffalo Wild Wings, Hooters, and others... but I don't think I'll try it here. Their standard 'hot' is up there with the top of the scale at other places. No shame in ordering medium like I probably should have done this time. What impresses me is it's not just heat for the sake of heat - plenty of flavor packed in there too - and the chicken is moist and tender... done just right. One of the best chicken sandwich spots in Citrus Heights. Chicken is always well seasoned and the fries are one of the best - crispy and well seasoned. Their coleslaw and pickles give depth and a pop of freshness to the sandwich. The heat levels are no joke, so beware if you can't handle spicy food, but there is always the low spice option that is flavorful as well. The signature sauce is also very good, similar to the Canes signature sauce. Other than the chicken sandwiches, the Mac and Cheese bowls are also very good - chicken and fries topped with a broiled layer of Mac and cheese. The service is always very friendly and welcoming. They are able to get the food out very quickly but still maintain a level of quality and freshness. I would definitely recommend this place! I've been coming to Angry Chikz since they used to be called "The Angry Bird" and I have to say, It's a fan favorite for sure. Staff has never been horrible, sure they've never had the greatest service any time I've gone, but It's not bad either. Just passable. The building is typically pretty clean which is a plus of course. Their chicken comes in 6 different levels of heat and it's a significant jump each time you go higher on the list. I've had "country" which is the most mild one, and also "hot" which is the 3rd hottest for my chicken before. Both times they were seasoned wonderfully. Some of the best seasoning any chicken place has had. "Hot" is made with ghost peppers so that should put it into perspective. And to think there are 2 even hotter flavors! The mac and cheese is some of the best mac I've ever had. When I want to get some good macaroni I usually come here. They even do loaded mac which is phenomenal too! They're one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento and I highly recommend you give them a try. It's in my permanent rotation of food places I eat at. read more

I did not know there was another location for Angry chickz. The location on Folsom Blvd was good. My sis in law bought us some food from that location. We were planning to get burgers and we saw angry chickz. (Must be new location) My son who stays in SF never had angry chickz so we thought it was nice for him to try something new. Well I've heard a lot about this place so I decided that we were in the neighborhood and my son and his girlfriend were in town so we decided this is where we were going to try out. It's in a very small shopping center so the parking it's kind of a pain! Lots of good places in here though. There's Chinese food there's a great hamburger joint and then there's the Angry Bird! I'm going to say right off the bat that the three stars that I gave the angry bird was definitely for the staff! The young lady at the counter was super helpful I had ordered the extreme or whatever it was called thinking that all I can eat that! Ha ha Ha definitely not! She offered me a chance to try it and I did and then I beg for milk and more milk and more milk and more milk and more milk! She was very kind and brought the milk out my mouth was on fire! I love a lot of hot stuff a lot of atomic hot stuff but that was way way way over the the cliff. Now onto the food well I don't have a lot to say about the food it was pretty much just food. When I go to a place I like to really have something in the food that really wowed me. And unfortunately there wasn't anything. The food was just food. Decided to hit this place up again....I think we might have over ordered. It's a simple menu but it's hard to decide what yumminess to eat in that moment. Today we decided to get 2 angry bowls , angry Mac and tender and a side of mac Let's just say I couldn't get a pic of hubby's angry bowl....he devoured it. Another great hot chicken place that I been wanting to try for a while. We have a Angry Chicken back in my area but the parking situation is so bad over there so I never went. But since I'm in Sacramento for the weekend, I decided to try this location. I wanted to put in my order online but going to the website didn't give me the option. So I drove there and put in my order. I was going to order all hot for the spice but the lady working the cashier told me to get medium which she was absolutely correct. The hot spice is spicy with a kick to it. The medium is perfect if you don't want to go hunting for water. The parking at this location is better than the one I have near my house. read more

De-licious! I was in Sac visiting family months ago and my husband and I picked up their chicken sliders to try them. We were so in love with them that we ordered some for my entire fam the next day. The chicken is juicy and tender and your teeth just melt into each bite. It's just so good. We tried a few different heat levels and preferred the "country" one that has no heat. We also tried the chicken tenders over white bread. It was good, but we preferred the sliders for sure. I definitely recommend and we look forward to coming back! read more

This is my first time coming to Angry Chicks, as a Dave's hot chicken addict. the sandwich was about the same, just wish that the sandwich had a back so the delicious slaw didn't fall out. This place is really laid back calm setting awesome customer service every one wears gloves and they have hand sanitizer for anyone who need it. The food is satisfactory! When t comes to a spicy check sandwich I couldn't think of anything other that could compete. Their Mac and cheese is very good and cheesy the angry fries are also delicious! I ordered the Combo #1 meal which is 2 sliders, slaw, pickles, and fries. I also added extra pickles to my sandwich. When ordering you get to choose the level of heat that you want for your chicken, I got the medium level. I was a little disappointed because it wasn't that spicy. I would probably get the hot or x-hot next time. I went around 7pm and the place was pretty crowded. The workers were wearing their masks; however, it didn't seem like they were enforcing the mask mandate because there were a few customers who did not have a mask on. Also, if you wanted a drink or any condiments (such as their secret sauce, ketchup, honey, etc.) it was on the side of the counter in the open. I definitely think that the company should hand out the sauces rather than let customers pump their own sauce, especially during this time of covid. read more
