So it's a cool place. Probably has great beers but I don't drink so that wasn't why I was here. My boyfriend and I came to try thier pasties. Which sadly we super bland, which I realize is a midwest thing, but come on people SALT! I immediately after the first bite, cut it up and salt and peppered it. No, the building was cool and trendy, very small mountain town brewery feel, it's also in a good location on the river trail with decent parking. And the service was neither bad nor good. We went to Durango during the transition of reopening after COVID 19. We were disappointed our usual breweries were closed, but opening later in the week after we left (again,transition reopening, we completely understood). The wait list at another place was reasonable, but once we got there, more time was added, so we canceled.. we just wanted a beer. We were thrilled to walk up & get served immediately at Animas! They provided social distancing seating in the parking lot! The weather was gorgeous & the beer amazing! Nice selection of their own brews, and the parkside location makes for pleasant outdoor dining. The burgers were good; the Cobb burger is unique and really delicious. The river chips are addictive -- think twice-fried potato chips. Friendly staff, and dog-friendly. The only slight negative we're the slightly wilted greens in the salad -- wilted because a bit old, not for chef-y reasons. I chalk it up to a COVID summer supply irregularity. read more

This was the first place we went to when heading into town and came here twice in one day. I'd like to think I'm a beer connoisseur and love checking out new breweries whenever we travel. Animas Brewing Company did not disappoint and the only thing I'm sad about is not buying a growler to take home! Next time... Two of our favorites would be the Broken Bridge Double IPA (nitro version) and the CIII PA. I also tried the What's Up Wit, which was pretty tasty. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of the beers and it's a pretty cool place. If you can, definitely go on the patio because the scenery is so beautiful and it's right next to the Animas River. We also tried one of the pasties (pronounced pass-ties) called For the Birds. The filling tasted so good and even my husband who isn't a mushroom guy, liked it! Definitely one of our favorite spots in Durango! read more

Good beer (Red and IPA were both well balanced), good food and friendly, accommodating staff. Had the "dip in the Animas," a pastie full of steak and onions with horseradish sauce. Very good. The Mac n cheese keg rolls were fantastic for kids and adults alike. Grilled Chicken sandwich was a bit dry, but not bad. Hopped uonhummas was also very good. Three out of four of us got the special which was fish and chips. It was delicious and good portions. We had my granddaughter's with us and I've never seen my granddaughter eat so much she loved it. That atmosphere is fun and we like their beer. The only thing I really could say is the service was a little slow and the bathrooms didn't have any toilet paper. Love this place. Great location, right by the river and by the bike/walking trail. Patio is great for nice days. Every style of beer they make is really good. Our favorites were both the IPA and double IPA and the Kolsch. Food is great comfort upgraded bar food. Keg rolls are a stand out with good specials too. Wings are done well. Pretzel is good. Great place! Stopped by to watch my NFL team. It was a Saturday. They had skiiing on. I asked if they would show the game. They were so accomodating. I tried the Riverside Kolsch closest to a Corona. It was a good choice. Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and personable. They interacted with all patrons. They make their own beer on the premises and had a good selection. The wait to be seated was not long and the service was good. Small selection of beer and simple menu, but the quality of beer picks was spot on. We LOVED our flight of all nine current beer selections! First of all, I love the location! It's right on the Animas River trail! My friend and I were out on a long walk and were happily surprised that the Brewery was right there! They have a nice patio with heaters, so you can still enjoy outdoor dining and drinking even with a chill in the air. Come for the beer, stay for the pasties! I'd never had one before, so we ordered the special of the day, which was a ham and cheese pasty. So so good. That dough can't be beat! We also shared the Western Grilled Caesar. Was pretty tasty too. Both were plenty of food for the two of us. Honestly, I think I would eat just about anything on the menu. It all sounded great. And I love the Irish twist on the menu items. Now, for the beer. So, my friend isn't a huge beer drinker, so I know a place is A-OK when she finds a beer she likes and wants to keep drinking it! I had the Class VI IPA, which was about as solid an IPA as they come. Nice and hoppy. My friend had the Fisherman's Brown and one more that I can't remember. It was one of their lighter choices. Service was impeccable. Our server was playing double duty at the bar and patio. Always super friendly and gracious. We received such a warm welcome! In short: Really rude and dishonest staff and unpleasant atmosphere but the food and beer are good. NOT DOG FRIENDLY. Staff member yelling at customers. Limited seating on the patio that doesn't allow dogs and the other option on where to eat is a parking lot with plastic tables. I've never been upset after a restaurant experience before so I figured I should warn others to not waste their evening out at this place especially since Durango has multiple great breweries. I called ahead and asked if there is a wait and told them that we have 2 dogs with us. They said that there's a short wait but that it's all outside seating. When we arrived there AFTER we ordered and PAID they then told us dogs aren't allowed on the patio and that they have to be tied outside of the patio. Outside the patio is completely unshaded and the fence is pretty closed off so the dogs would have to sit on the cement in the heat. I understand that not all restaurants allow dogs but let people know that. If you are not dog friendly, put that on your website or at a minimum, let people know that when they call ahead and tell you that they're bringing dogs or before they order and pay for food especially if you're standing there ordering and paying for your food with your dogs next to you. Once we realized that tying our dogs outside their patio is not going to work and tried to sit in the "open seating" area, which by the way is their parking lot, one of the staff yelled at us that the tables in the parking lot with chairs are not open seating. Finally, a group of customers who were sitting in one of the parking lot plastic tables offered to switch us for our patio table after overhearing the whole situation. The salad arrived and was missing the beets; otherwise, it was delicious. The wings aren't bad. The Kolsch was delicious. While eating, ride staff member yelled at another group who accidentally tried to sit at a plastic table in parkinIf management is reading this and cares about improving customer service, this experience happened 8/3/20. read more

Friday night I went to ABC for the first time to meet friends for a meeting. The place was packed when I arrived at 5:30p with lots a folks standing outside on the patio in early February. I had a black beer and it was fine. So, the next night I decide to eat dinner--it's a new place close to my house, and the menu looked good. But, yikes! What a terrible dining experience! Generally, I love Durango restaurants, but this place was impossible to enjoy. The interior layout does not maximize seating. This place feels small. Their big, long bench style seating, while goes with the theme of the place and are well made, does not make adequate use of the already small space. The table I was at could have accommodated another party of four, but because of the bench style, large amounts of space went unused, while many parties crowded awkwardly by the bar. They need a place for people to wait. When we arrived, the hostess could not clearly gauge the wait--maybe 10 turned into 30. While it seemed that the staffs' hearts maybe in the right place, the service was just god-awful. Our waitress had no idea what she was doing. I get this feeling sometimes, in a few of Durango's food establishments, that the staff is high. They don't look you in the eye, they're always busy doing something but generally distracted and slow, a little anxious, avoiding the customers...(I'm mostly certain I saw a staff member smoking pot on the patio as we were leaving.) One person I was with, wanted the No Meater Pasty, and so when he requested this dish the waitress decided to sit and join our table to apologize and talk about it. She explained that they had run out of a few of their pasties and that they could not make any pasty without meat because that's how they are prepped in the kitchen. It was weird and disappointing. The kids meal I ordered for my daughter, should have come with a choice of sides, the option was never offered, someone decided for her. Perhaps the waitress thought veggies sticks were a healthier choice, or they were running low on chips, or she forgot to ask and didn't feel comfortable coming back to the table. Not one of our main dishes was served at the same time. I was in a party of three, and my food was served a good 5-min before another main dish arrived. This was simply impolite as well as amateurish. The food--now this is may be the most important--I ordered the ABC Nachos and the Traditional Pasty. The nachos were okay--definitely unique and salty. But for the dish that they are identifying themselves by, their Traditional Pasty, it was just awful. It was filled with severely undercooked, thinly sliced root vegetables. It was crunchy inside. The first ingredient listed is shaved sirloin, but it had very little meat, maybe 5 bite-sized chunks. The kids meal said it came with a dessert called Bucket of Worms. It was never offered, I had to asked someone about it, and a guy proudly (I felt like he want to be congratulated on his major accomplishment.) brought out a kids dessert, sans spoon. We had to get up to get our credit card run. The music was like 1990's pop. I really, really wanted to like this place. I love the location and the branding, but the service, interior space, and food are total deal breakers. I might try again in the summer, after they get their game figured out. read more

Our visit to ABC was a mixed bag. The place has a lot of potential, but there are a few things we observed they could work on. First of all, the food is above average. I was very happy with the pretzel and cheese appetizer, even though it could have used an extra pretzel in the mix. I was happy with with burger I had which was a mix of a brat and beef, rather tasty like a reuben. My better half had the caesar salad and thought it was good, but the parmesan cheese crisp was too much for her. The choice of either a salad or house-made potato chips is really boring. I hate potato chips and these were no exception: dry, greasy, no flavor but what it is cooked in. The beer was spot on. I had an IPA while my company had a porter (i think, I know it was something dark). Both were very good. Beer alone I think this place has the process down. The service was spotty. Within 5-minutes of us getting our entrees our waitress wanted to close out because she had somewhere to be (and probably wanted the tip if there was one to be had). Poor form. Another waitress that was working the table behind us and then took over our section had that rockabilly look, which I so adore, but her perfume was obnoxiously LOUD! I have chemical sensitivities and every time she was within 5 feet it smelled like a baby-diaper with a hefty dose of napalm. My face felt like it was melting and we quickly finished up and left. The headache lingered for hours. My bad for being born this way, but holy crow, TONE DOWN THE STINK! We will come here again this summer and enjoy their beers and food. While a limited menu it appears they are doing a good job of making it a good burger joint. I would recommend people trying this place out for lunch. read more
