Walking around Devon Street looking for a good place to eat, we stumbled upon Anmol since it had a ton to offer. A little disappointed cause we were actually looking for chaat and they came up offering chaat, but nonetheless, we came into a beautiful restaurant with tons of Indian and middle eastern offerings. Service was fine, nothing extraordinary since there were a few times we weren't addressed but then other times where he checked in on us. The food was good - for the adults, which there were 5 of us, the spice level was great. However; we ended up ordering some butter chicken which under the menu was advised no spice, and sadly it was just as spicy as the chicken tikka masala which was marked as spicy. This wasn't an issue for us adults, however we ordered the butter chicken for our toddlers and it was just way too spicy. Glad we ordered the grill platter because we offered that to our little ones instead. There was never an ask about spice levels regardless of indicating spicy or not, so that was hard to navigate for lunch for the little ones. Otherwise, the food was good. We all enjoyed it. The only thing Anmol here is how you get ripped off in the name of Z.Halal of your hard earned money. Seriously, what is the use of eating halal if they reuse leftovers from one dish and add the meat to another. We've tried them all and Anmol is a definite stand out from the rest. The place is very clean and they also have a sink where you can wash your hands before and after eating. Entrees are not only outstanding but generously portioned. They are the only establishment on Devon that puts 3 sauces on the table (cilantro-creamy, mint onion chutney- herby, and a plum - sweet and spicy) to go with all your meats and entrees. The place is packed on weekends but well worth the wait. Staff is professional and won't rush you like some other places there do. Very fancy looking restaurant with lots of light during the day, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. I liked the ambience right away. I shared one of the barbecue platters with a friend. Anmol platter 2, with afghani kabab, seekh kabab, chicken boti, and chicken tikka. Took a minute to cook, but of course it was worth the wait. Very delicious, great portions, both of us were full by the end. Loved the sauces on the side as well haha. Then I got a free dessert for checking in on yelp, which was great. Got the rasmalai, which was also big enough to split with my friend, and very tasty. I definitely enjoyed this place, and would totally come again. Just a word of warning - there is zero,and I mean absolutely zero, chance that the restaurant now claiming to be Anmol has anything to do with the original Anmol BBQ. The menu is from the previous Indian place (Restaurant Tandoori) and the staff is mostly from Al Badia, the Middle Eastern spot that "shares" the space. The recipes are nothing like Anmol (even when the dish names overlap - which few do). I don't know how they got the name - the Milwaukee Anmol (which still operates) has the original dishes, menu and website, which no longer lists Chicago as having a restaurant. The food at the old spot was terrific - the Shahi Paneer was my favorite dish on Devon with complex and subtle flavors. The "new" place is just bad - meats were tough, curries were rough and the "naan" was flavorless and probably reheated in a microwave. Steer clear (or go to Milwaukee). read more

Devon Avenue was completely packed today and we couldn't find any parking where most of the Indian and Pakistani restaurants are. However, that was a good sign for us to eat at Anmol. We ordered the grill number 2, chicken makhni, and dal fry with butter nan. The food was absolutely scrumptious and satisfying. The restaurant was packed and the service was great. They did remove their pina Colada Lassi from the menu, which is so sad. Please bring it back! Lastly, the bathrooms were not clean though. Wow wow wow, rarely do I eat desi food and truly enjoy every single item we ordered. We had the mixed grill platter, chicken karahi, nihari, roti, and chicken biryani. I'm usually not a grilled desi meat fan but the chicken tikka was juicy and the kabobs were so good. The nihari has a different flavor from other places on Devon and it was nice! Loved the chicken karahi. Was impressed by the biryani and how much chicken they included in the dish! Food was flavorful, authentic, and delicious! Will definitely be returning here. Service could have been better, we felt a bit forgotten about but it was a busy day (Eid). The bathrooms could also be nicer. And the prices are expensive... definitely an occasion meal for Devon. Highly highly disappointed with the buffet. First we called them to ask what was on the buffet and the price and they hung up on us twice. She couldn't eat it as it was quite spicy so we switched dishes Special Chicken Kahrra - Boneless chicken cubes made fresh in a wok. Fried in ginger and garlic with tomatoes, flavored with Special Kahrrai masala, Topped with Cilantro and Jalapenos for the right amount of kick. $14.00. I also ordered a side of rice to go with the Chicken Kahrra. I kind of expected a small bowl to use as a base under the chicken Kahrra much like a Chinese restaurant what I got was a huge rectangular plate about the size of a small casserole dish. For our entrees we ordered the Anmol Platter #3 which consisted of 4 types of chicken - Malai Boti, Harabara Chicken, Bihari Chicken, and Mango Habanero Chicken. They were all different but also tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Personally I thought the portion was worth the price. We also had the Malai Kofta which was good, but not exactly the same as at one of the weddings where we really enjoyed it. A little over a year after my first review I was contacted by their management to come in and see all the changes they had (newly) implemented. Their social media assistant mentioned updates to their menus, their dining area and training of kitchen staff. As well as information about their sister locations. We stopped in a few times for dine in meals and found the service better than previous visits. The changes were many. From the plating of food to interior decoration to the level of services. For some of the years past there were also new additions and subtractions to their menu. Lots of new inventions or rather additions to their curries, barbecue and appetizers menu. From then on, I and my extended family were often grabbing takeout or ordering food for events. It hasn't always been perfect though. Word on the streets is that, when they try to do buffets for Muslim holidays it doesn't ever seem to go as perfectly as planned. This in part because of scheduling, taking too many reservations and overall poor planning. Now some seven years later they are still doing it and well. At least in the handle of their everyday customers. Their dining room is still looking attractive and their kitchen is putting out tasty curries and succulent barbecue. Anmol is steady becoming a neighborhood staple. It is Pakistani food served in a comfortable, faux-fine dining atmosphere. They try their best to achieve an above-the-usual Devon ave dining experience but lack in the offering of some of the most simple, basic, "fine dining" necessities. ie washrooms / wash basin. I should note that (restaurant grade) Pakistani food uses a larger amount of oil when creating some curries. I've learned it is because the chef is adding depth to the gravy, giving it a certain consistency, to add more richness to the entree. There are umpteen reasons. In my own experience, over the time of eating Pakistani food in homes and restaurants I realize this is particular to the chef preparing the food. If you have a problem, you could chat with staff to see what can be done or order from their grill or rice entrees. Not much else to add other than, the reminder of a "stepped up" game in the last ten years. Making sure to have approachable hosts at the front that engage new customers and drive patrons to trying more from their changing menus. If it is your first time, I suggest a plate of barbecued items and appetizers you haven't had/ seen elsewhere. ie Pakora is a good way to go. veg or non. read more

You know the food is good when half way through your meal and you're already trying to think of when you can come back next. I honestly can't hype this place up enough. Everything we had was spot on flavor wise and cooked to perfection. We started with the Balochi Fish Fry. The flavors of this appetizer were insane. I loved their version of a chimmichurri they put on top of the fish as well. The fish was perfectly fried and seasoned, I just wish there was more because I would eat that for a meal it was so good! For our meals my boyfriend had the Tandoori Charga and I had the mango habenero chicken. Both equally delicious! The mango habenero chicken had a nice spice level, atleast for me it wasn't too spicy it was just right. The Tandoori Charga was so flavorful I'm salivating just thinking about it. It's also a great price point since you're getting a whole chicken! Both chicken dishes were cooked so well they weren't dry at all. I don't know what happened here tonight but I just received an order of chicken makhani from on uber eats not even 15 minutes ago and it's literally the greasiest, oiliest butter chicken I have ever seen. Did they forget to strain something? Chicken Makhani should be like a tomato gravy, not this inedible, unincorporated broken-ass mess. Three bites and I already started to feel sick. I tried to call the store and politely asked for my money back but they were just confused and argumentative saying I should have "asked for less oil" which only pissed me off more.
