Buyer Beware! They rip you off, check your receipt. It's a self serve place too. I carried my silverware and drink to a dirty table. The women in front had food on their blouses, I should have known. I chose NOT to leave a tip prior to signing on the automated system, BEFORE I received any food, (that's like getting a haircut and giving a tip before you get a cut??) but found that they added a tip on my bill ANYWAY. First of all that is illegal to just add something I did not want to add. This is the new "system" of getting you to use your cards and rip you off before even getting the product. Guess they know their food is awful. The manager said "well you signed" but not with a tip I approved of!!! and he said he needed the food back, I wish I could have thrown it up. I had a very nice lunch here: quinoa salad with roasted veggies over raw spinach and a parsnip/walnut soup. Vegan and yummy. Hubby had the pad Thai - unusual that the sauce was a spicy peanut sauce rather than the usual pad Thai sauce, but still delicious. Service is slow, even with very few people when I arrived. We were excited to visit this place and try out the Indian veg version of cuisine only to be disappointed . I am saying version because we knew this would not be the authentic one but were willing to keep an open mind and try the version . We ordered the regular chai / hot Indian tea . It was not bad, very OK. Followed by an order of puri bhaji, vada sambar with coconut chutney and small South Indian sampler with masal dosa , vadai sambar with coconut chutney . Puri bhaji was not good at all: puri was hard and flat/not puffed up and masala had lots of broccoli and some other veggies along with potato in it . Not very tasty . Vadai was good : this was not the usual restaurant style 'Medu vadai' or fried doughnut made of Urad lentil but it was made of chana dal lentil and tasty . I enjoyed this one . Sambar was watery and ok. Coconut chutney was sour, seems like they had added tamarind and was not ground to a paste . Masal dosa was not good at all ! The menu items had Ayurveda markings of the three doshas against each item (look up Ayurvedic doshas if you want to know what it means ! ) There is nothing wrong with having variations of a cuisine and being creative . But it should be tasty and flavorful ! For us that mark was totally missed here . read more

All vegetable loving humans should try this restaurant, no ifs', ands', or buts' about it! The menu has a good mix of NM American, Indian (Asian), Mediterranean, and Arabic fare. If you have a food allergy please review their "Facts About Our Restaurant" on their Home Page to review a summary of how they maintain their kitchen, prepare their food, and general food philosophies. It sounds like they take every precaution to maintain an allergy free kitchen. IF you are not a plant based cheese consumer (like me), you can ask to upgrade to real/dairy based cheese. I've eaten here a handful of times and I'm always excited and appreciatively of the simplicity of their dishes and their attention to detail with regard to their house made sauces, breads/pastas, teas, and desserts! Wonderful, primarily vegan restaurant! I loved the cardamom pancakes for breakfast and the breakfast scramble was tasty, too. I also enjoyed the South Indian Sampler-- I actually had two meals from it! The samosa was perfect. I did try the coconut and the pecan pies. So glad I finally made it here! The food is ayurvedically prepared meaning it's intended to support everyone's individual dosha(s). The menu is clearly marked as to what is vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and what dosha(s) are targeted. I ordered the Thaali plate because it was tri-doshic and offered a good sample of all 3 daily veg, dhaal, rice (basmati or brown - I chose basmati & wasn't disappointed), daily soup, your choice of chutney, and a chapati or dosa (I chose the dosa). It was all very delicious. I could tell that the food was good for me - it was eating with intention. Also had a golden milk. Finally, ordered a samosa to take home for later and it did not disappoint! I will surely keep this on my list of places to visit again when I'm in Santa Fe. read more

To each his/her own. Some will love this place (I am assuming), but they would have never had real Indian food or would have tried and could not digest the spice/strong flavors of authentic Indian food. I was torn what I should rate this place. It is an attempt at making Indian food. It is NOT Indian food. The dry masalas/spices are powdery and feel actually "dry" in the cooked food - which they should not be. You can actually taste raw spices like garam masala and turmeric. I am always curious about places like these - Indian cuisine offered by non-Indian origin folks, trying hard but falling short of what can be considered good Indian food. U can try to call this fusion, but I have had really good Indian fusion food before and this is not that either. Anyway, if u like this place, go for it. I would not recommend to people of Indian origin though. Unless u have never had authentic Indian food either. BTW, I am assuming the owner is not Indian origin based on the folks I saw running the joint. I could be very wrong. If the owner is Indian origin, then I would rate this place 0 stars. We were excited to have a good meal after 3 days on the road. We like the food at the location in ABQ. Unfortunately, the experience was quite lacking. The service was really bad, surly teens who obviously did not want to be there, serving food between taking their hair tie out and running hands through oily hair, slamming metal chairs on concrete floors in distain. The entire restaurant felt dirty and was distractingly shabby. Plants dying in the corners and dust and crumbs accented the room. The filthy bathroom had a dirty mop inside. The food was well spiced, generous portions and a decent value. It's definitely a locals favorite, but how you do one thing is how you do everything. The food was decent, not amazing. Struggled to not give it a 4 simply because the service is horrible. You have to pay when you order, and they expect a tip right then. They also have a tip drop slot for cash at the register for those not paying with a card. They have no reason to take good care of you and earn a good service gratuity since they have already received it. Plus the servers attitudes seem indifferent. I went two days in a row, and both days were the same. I had to get up every time I needed to fill my water, and couldn't get any help for additional items needed - like desert. I was never asked if my meals were good, or if I needed anything. On my second visit, I had the Cardamom Pancakes. Very dry and had little taste. I ordered maple syrup and had to pay an extra $1.50 for about one ounce. The pancakes needed about 4 ounces to help with the dryness and tastelessness. $12 for 2 pancakes is just a bit excessive. This place was a very pleasant surprise in the middle of a strip mall in NM. The vibe was cosy, the lady behind the till was very knowledgable and recommended a tea that I loved. They have teas set up based on your Dosha, which I believe means your type of digestion. I had the equivalent of the sampler plate which was delicious. For the long drive back to Arizona, the food kept me satiated for hours. I would love one of these in Los Angeles or even Sedona, but alas I'll have to pin it to one of my regular visits when I make it to New Mexico again. read more

It's super sad to see Annapurna's devolve in such an icky way. Back when Prakash ran it, the place was a hot bed of community and kindness and cross-pollinating, topped off with delicious, nutritious, healthy food. Alas, this is no longer the case. The restaurant has since changed hands. The folks running it now know little to nothing about their ingredients, or the ethos of ayurvedic food. As if that wasn't disheartening enough, the service is abusive and abominable. The management doesn't even pretend to care about the customers they disdain. When my falafel balls tasted like amonia, I was given a credit. When I came back to utilize said credit, the staff treated me like a criminal, and refused to honor it. When I forgot about this incident, and tried to call in an order to go, the snippy, rude manager told me that they no longer accept cash for to-go orders, and that I would have to pay with a credit card, which I don't have. Not only do I not have a credit card, no one in my family does, which - I guess means that Annapurna only caters to white people who participate in the debt economy. I've lost count how many times I've been treated like an infected cockroach by the new staff, and have hit the wall. We had the most delicious lunch at Annapurna's yesterday! I had the Avocado BLT (with tempeh bacon) on their homemade bread, with a cup of Lentil Vegetable Soup, and it was perfect. We waited in line for about 20 minutes while an indecisive family slowly made their order. The restaurant wasn't remotely full, but the staff (at least six people) were visibly stressed. We expected at least a "hello" or some indication that we were visible by the time we made it to the counter after the indecisive family had moved on, but regardless of the fact that we'd waited 20-plus minutes to order, they ignored us. Instead, they chatted with each other and didn't seem to care there were humans hoping to order. We did get some food that was good and some that was a miss, and they got part of our order wrong. The decent food is why I'm giving them two stars rather than one (3.5 stars for food, 1 star for getting part of the order wrong, and 0 stars for customer service--two stars seems like the most appropriate compromise). But Annapurna, you really need to work on your customer service. This was a disappointing and frustrating experience, and the next time we're in Santa Fe, we won't be returning. read more

The outdoor patio was so nice! Lots of flowering greenery! Sorry, no photos of our meal. I also didn't read my Yelper's reviews prior to entering either. So here are my best tips on this place. The mango tea was more like a smoothie and was very different, they were out of coconut water so I deduct one star point. Also, they have a rewards program which the cashier asked if we were members of. I said no, but I'd like to. Of course after we paid we were able to sign up but we had to make another purchase. I must deduct one more star point for that as it did end up being an expensive lunch. I ordered the falfalla wrap which would have been enough for both of us to share! It was really light, fresh and yummy. We also ordered the chef special which was enchiladas! It was very good, heavy, and filling. Again it was enough for two. We decided to get a box of baked goodies to go. The coconut pie and pecan pie were the best. The chocolate cup cake and banana bread were....stale and the banana bread was way overpowered with cinnamon. The ludda which was a date ball was simple and good, you must like dates though. The samosa had little flavor making the Trader Joe's frozen somosas a more appealing alternative. The fries were oily with very unimpressive sauces. The menu is large and has a nice combination of savory and sweet foods to satisfy either tooth. I went with my brother for brunch. He got the tofu scramble with a side of black-eyed peas and collards. I got the veggie burger with a side of dahl soup. I added on avocado and onions. I enjoyed the burger. The chipotle mayo was great. The burger patty held together, was tasty. It was your basic veggie burger -- not necessarily great but I ate all of it. My brother was not a fan of the tofu scramble. His came with tomatoes, mushrooms, and green chilis. It was cooked well, but bland. It needed more seasoning. We had a really hard time deciding what we wanted to eat as there were so many good options. One of the employees ended up helping us decide, so I got a variety platter with 5 small things including veggies of the day and my friend got the North Indian platter. That way we could taste many things. I also ordered the lemon ginger juice and my friend got soy based chai. The food was brought to the table within about 8-10 minutes. Looking fantastic. Santa Fe- My wife ordered the sampler, deserts, and chai. I ordered the pad thai. My wife was pleased with her meal and I was very happy with the chai and deserts...the pad thai was so spicy-hot that I was unable to eat any of it...when we told the 2 women working inside of the issue, one ignored me and the other told us that we could dilute it with coconut milk after we take it home...and she would let the chef know of the issue (for future reference?). We thought we had found a gem in our new city and we had hoped that Annapurna would be our new "go to" dining in Santa Fe, but there's more to creating a satisfying dining experience than a few good items on the menu. We won't be back because we don't make a habit of patronizing establishments that stand by their products and don't make sure that the basic satisfaction of its customers is met. I would suggest training your staff as to the value of a potential repeat (or singular) customer, over the inconvenience of replacing or the cost of refunding a $12 item to a dissatisfied and still hungry customer. read more
